I found a picture taken on set with Missy . Missy was in a dark room . This room looks like the same room in the picture taken of the robot/monster . We might be seeing Missy in more than just the first two episodes .

First , we have some names of guess stars for the new radio plays . We have John Sessions as Wilson , Sarah Ovens as Kate , and Dan Bottomley playing Sam . John barrowman will be playing Jack again . Still no news about Gwen , Ianto , Owen , or Tosh returning in these plays .
Next , I have ask for every bodys thoughts about Torchwood and if you think it should return. I also been looking up what fans had to say on other web sites . It looks like most of the fans want Torchwood to return . Some fans want some things to change . I think changes have to be made to . 85 percent of people who watched season 4 Miracle Day thought it was good , but that means 15 percent didn’t like it . I have been trying to think of a way Torchwood could return so all the fans would like it .
Torchwood changes ever season . Some people like that season four had ten episodes while others wish it had five episodes like season 3 Children of Earth . Some people are wondering what happen to the rift . For those who don’t know , Ianto came back to life and closed the rift in one of their old radio plays ( that’s why this post is under Spoilers ) so the rift will not return unless it reopens some how . Some people think Torchwood should return to Whales . I think so to , but we do need to have some of the states in the show because Torchwood was based in America last season and because if Torchwood returns to TV it looks like Starz will be paying for it again , but the show should be base around Whales . As for the story line , I think it should be one big story like the last two seasons but with a change . I think if we get a 5th season ( we will ) than the episodes should be character base like these plays . They can start out showing the main problem than give each character a episode in the form a flash back to show how every thing lead up to this problem . Than they can do one or two episodes that has the whole team solving the problem . That way the show can change again . In order to do this they will need to add new members to the Torchwood team , but I think we all know they will need to do that any way . In season five they should do about seven episodes to make every body happy so they will need to add in about two or three new team members ( I am not sure about Rhys , he might need to be kill off ). As for the Torchwood hub , yes it was blown up in season three but in season four Gwen talks about how the hub was rebuilt , so they should have the hub in the show again . As for fight seens I think there will always be fight seens but they shouldn’t over do it and there needs to be less explosions . As for the ending I think it needs to be a cliffhanger but in a way a ending ( like the ending to season three of Arrow ) that way if we don’t get a 6th season there will be a closer for the fans but if the fans want it to return ( they will ) than they have some where to pick up from . I am not sure if season five should be set right after Miracle Day or a couple years after that . It might have to be right after Miracle Day if they do a season with character base episodes like the way I said it . Please let me know what you think about my ideas about how Torchwood should return for a 5th season . Thank you .

I hope Joivan Wade is back as Rigsy his very self — I’ve always wanted to see the Doctor with a modern young artist, given Capaldi’s own art interests — probably not, though. And Rigsy was a very appealing character, IMO. How about one of those “second chances”? Spread ’em about a bit!

A lot of people did like him and it will be great to have a companion who is so different from the other companions . It will be great to see a companion who is a artist . Nice! 🙂11 June 2015 at 03:24 #40592@gamergirlavatar The Doctor could take up sketching, tutored by Rigsy, as a way for the Doctor to have some way of focusing his prodigious mind *outwardly* when he’s traveling alone, so he doesn’t go neurotic (as in “Listen”) from too much chatter of the monkey mind (*his* monkey mind would be a whole troop of monkeys crowded into a piano — it hardly bears thinking about!). We know he’s hung out with artists before, but not that he’s ever dipped into making art himself — his main preoccupation being “science”, DW style, instead. But why not? A dangerous alien art form could be encountered . . . a caste of artist-priests “drawing” what they perceive to be your true self in biological material, and that forces you to become what they want you to be . . . Rigsy reveals an unexpected flair for drawing from life (we only saw him dealing with graffiti letters spray-painted on walls, but circumstances could force him to expand his skills or reveal some that he’d kept hidden from his more tag-minded pals — ) which he and the Doctor use to — mumble mumble, something or other.
Enough mind wandering; off to pack for a weekend celebrating the graduation of the last grandchild from college. I *will* survive; and the young woman has already begun building herself a career in costume design for stage and (she hopes) film. That’s a lot more than I had organized when I graduated from college, oh, many years ago now . . .

When I told school careers office they laughed at me and told me to aim for something “real” like nursing or secretarial work, as befitting a public school kid. (Oz public means government not private) I gave up on my dream career and opted for something practical, teaching, and was told that there was a glut of teachers and I wouldn’t get a look in so I gave up on the career idea altogether and decided to stick with my secret plan, to be a writer.

@gamergirlavatar thank you for keeping us up to date on Torchwood news. I was not a fan of the TV series, It was I thought a promising concept spoiled by RTD’s misunderstanding of what “adult” meant. Needless sex does not make a series “adult”. Good ideas and complex stories are what is required. I hope the new material will remedy that as I liked the characters and the setting. It must have Gwen though.

24 June 2015 at 21:59 #40806@janetteb Couldn’t agree more about Torchwood. I was so excited about a spinoff series, especially with Captain Jack, and then I watched it. The storylines are incredibly weak and predictable. A lot of “adult” movies and TV shows digress into violence and sex, which is so incredibly boring. One of the best parts about Doctor Who is that it uses great character development and fascinating story arcs instead of predictable long winded violence sequences and sex.

25 June 2015 at 05:23 #40822@kharis Welcome, and thanks for that succinct explanation of why DW is endlessly fascinating even (in fact especially) after many re-watches, while shows like GoT and (yes) Torchwood (IMO) are not: character and character development on the one hand, vs. endless amounts of battles and fights and mayhem *instead of* the slower, subtler play of character and character development. The “instead of” is crucial. GoT has endless violence, sex/flirty innuendo, and raging conflict of all kinds, all of which is deadly boring *unless you also develop the characters so we can give a damn about how the characters fare in and then cope with the fall-out from all the violence, sex, etc.
I think it’s largely a matter of the maturity of the viewer; but then I would think that, since I am pretty mature by now, and value maturity in others. Even in books, I tend to skim battle scenes, sex scenes, and arguments that do nothing but circle the drain endlessly because to resolve them the characters would have to make a leap of growth/understanding/empathy/etc. And then what happens to your next ambush-murder-sex scene, for heaven’s sake, the cheap thrills — the *easy* stuff?
Maybe the best thing that ever happened to DW is the restraint on “adult content” of the kinds described above, due to the “family viewing” designation. The writers/actors are forced by this constraint to entertain without the easy thrills of sex and violence. So it’s been necessary for them to work more with externalizing the characters’ inner lives than just running through fireworks. I see it as comic books at their crudest and most colorful vs. drama with soul, and relatively complex characters trying to work out how to live with each other, or leave each other, or persuade each other to one course or another, or solve dangerous puzzles and mysteries.
I think this difference is vital, and is the source of the deepest divide in fandom — between fans who love a sparkly surface and hate any attention to *why* things happen instead of how (and how fast), and those who feel cheated when a story is all action among characters flattened by the requirement that they not impede the speed and the clockwork intricacies of plot.

25 June 2015 at 07:29 #40826@kharis A question, though — I thought the device that Missy used to kill Dr. Chang, SEB, Osgood, and the two immobilized soldiers supposedly standing guard on Missy in the plane, is what the Doctor aimed at her in the graveyard, intending to use it to kill her. But what the Doctor thanks the CyberBrig for is firing first, past the Doctor, and killing Missy *before* the Doctor could actually fire Missy’s device. If that’s right, then Missy’s victims were killed (or not?) by the channel-changer thingie, but Missy in the graveyard was hit by a blast of some kind from the CyberBrig’s weapon, the gun fastened to his arm and wrist — the same sort of thing that CyberDanny used back at the start of DiH to blast three other Cybermen to smoke, flame, and mangled bits to save Clara from them.
So if Missy didn’t get shot (or dematerialized or teleported) by her own weapon, because the Doctor never fired it (did he?). She got “shot” by the CyberBrig’s gun, which as far as I can tell is supposed to flat out kill you, no teleportation, no nothing. I’m puzzled.
See, this is that “plotty” stuff that not all that important to me (sure, Missy will be back, but the fact of her return and her plans thereafter are of primary interest to me, not unraveling the confusion about what actually “shot” her in the graveyard and how she survived. But if the writers don’t address this puzzle in a satisfactory manner, there’ll be a massive uproar among the fans over the “how” of it (which weapon, and what did it do, and could it do that, or — damn, Moffat has failed us again!) instead of the “why” (because the story has more use for Missy, so here she is and don’t sweat it, let’s watch her scheming unfold).
I hope not (such a waste of energy + clouds of rancor and blame, ugh).
25 June 2015 at 08:09 #40828@inchabod You are right, Danny/Cyberman shot her, but it almost looked as if the Doctor had already pushed the button on that channel changer, but the reaction on the Doctor’s face would suggest Danny shot her. It would be hard to tell since the controller doesn’t have a beam of light like a Cyberman’s gun. If not, than it wouldn’t be too crazy if she was just uploaded to her “Heaven” after being shot. Also, the Zygon\Osgood idea really works for me if the channel changer isn’t the issue.

I have great ideas, can hold a million facts in my head and am good at ferreting out a truth or solving a mystery, but I am a terrible writer. Maybe that’s why my degrees are in science and choreography, two disciplines where I didn’t need to be a great writer. Despite my own failings as a writer, I recognize good writing, and you should be a writer. Just wanted to throw that out there. Maybe write a Doctor Who script for fun? Just saying.

on the issue of ‘family viewing’ there are many telly shows -the most recent of which has been the marathon watch by a few of us of Buffy, Angel and Firefly which have been M rated. Even the MA- rated Farscape is excellent (in places) though I suspect the rating’s system was far too harsh in one season and was predicated on one particular aspect or event.
Violence – at times -especially in writing, can be incredibly powerful as real beauty and the power of the narrative is something I’ve always entertained as alarming rather than peaceful. Shakespeare’s work contained the illumination of character through rather dreadful conclusions & tussles across the arena of terror and flight. The works and writings of the ancients clearly demonstrate the reality of the human condition: Sophocles said that the least of us knows that love is a cruel and terrible master.
We have the erinyes, the Furies with their unbearable creation of excessive sound: driving people insane with inner monologue. This is terrifying stuff. For my money it’s Aeschylus who can paint morbid and hideous pictures. The secret lies is in what they teach us. And we need to be on the road to adult-hood to learn what they aim to teach. Through misbehaviour we learn.

Totally agree that violence and sex can be a powerful tool in the story. The problem with most modern shows and movies is that it’s completely over used, to the point where I find it boring. It lost impact for me a long time ago. It’s like someone trying to surprise you the same way all day long. The first time you’re surprised you may jump, or give a desired reaction, so the person surprises you tries again later for the same outcome and is met with a blank stare instead. After several tries to surprise you the same way all day most of us would be annoyed.
It’s sad I watch a scene with horrid violence and cliff hangers and I’m so over it I will be thinking, “yeah, yeah, yeah” wind it up. It’s lost it’s power through gross over use for me. But I completely agree with you that it is a great tool when executed with restraint by masters like Shakespeare.
Firefly! Love that show. A Whovian and a Browncoat who loves to philosophize? Wish I knew people in my town like the people on this forum.

Bookish parents, public library branch close by, crazily curious and seeking mind, encouraging teachers in good public schools — and SF was right there on the magazine racks at the “corner store” (malt shop, drug store?), so it was kind of unavoidable.
And I agree with both of you that sometimes, violence and sex can be the bests means to spotlight certain intense subjects and experiences; speaking of which, there’s an interesting analysis of the TV series “Hannibal” in this weeks New Yorker Magazine.
@kharis — I don’t try to write for DW, since I’m really not a *visual* enough writer for visualized drama. I did get a play staged back in the ’90’s, but it hasn’t been in production more than a few times since — too “wordy”, I expect. I’m at home with words much more than with images, or movement in real space. Sure, a script is words, but because of time constraints in a visual medium, the words must be minimal but tightly controlled. They usually don’t mean much and have hardly any effect until actors speak them and embody their meanings for us to see. Even crazily uneven and unfocused DW scripts have their brilliant bits, but the brilliance is collaborative — not entirely different from how effective fiction writing works, but hugely different all the same.
Okay, I feel a lecture coming on, and I’m not going to do it . . .
Meantime, I’m glad you’ve found your real town — that, I think, is a major part of what we all do for each other here. Welcome!

His comment is ” The photo shows The Doctor about to make a mistake that has cataclysmic repercussions ” . The photo shows The Doctor walking out of the TARDIS . I think that something might happen to The Doctor because he made this mistake and Missy and Clara have to save him . Peter also had this to say about the first two episodes , ” It places The Doctor in a conflict that is central to his being , as well as containing some subtle tributes to the ’60s , and truly wonderful guest performances ” . He also said that Clara is a great companion and that he hopes her story isn’t over .

6 July 2015 at 17:44 #40997@purofilion Well, Scorpy *always* wears black leather, does’t he? Which is kinda weird for a guy whose biggest biological challenge is that his weird head-stuff overheats, as I recall.
I haven’t seen Farscape in forever, but from what I recall, once the main focus becomes Scorpy trying to get info from Crichton, I got a distinct Master/Doctor vibe from the show, particularly the Master in his Simm phase — a homoerotic undertone that sometimes develops around stories about hero/villain pairs when they’re very closely involved in struggling over whatever the bone of contention is. It’s that vibe that writers of fanfic either pick up (or find a way to justify) in such stories, and then go off and write Slash fiction about.
The pattern is usually that the villain becomes obsessed with not just beating the hero at whatever the game is, but obsessed with the hero himself. Vice versa, not so much, if at all; that way the “taint” of homoeroticism (as far too many people still see it) stays with the bad guy. A stellar example was once much discussed: the modern re-make of Ben Hur, in which Stephen Boyd said later that he’d deliberately played the bad guy as secretly in love with the Judah Ben-Hur (Charlton Heston, as I recall) and just as deliberately never told Heston he was doing it (and Heston, being Heston, never got it). Very effective it was, too — the result was an obsessively intimate undercurrent in a huge, splashy comic book of an historical story. I thought I saw that kind of through-line with Scorpy and Crichton, edged with the sadism of someone who’s been made into a pain-freak by his own past (there’s an episode about Scorpy’s upbringing among the Skarrans, as I recall, that feeds into this concept).
I could be mis-remembering, or just wrong, of course; I’m curious to know whether this makes any sense to you?

In the clip that they released , we saw her chewing on a apple and talking about the story of Adam and Eve , so we know that she is still planning something around heaven ( or heck , this is The Master ) . There have also been alot of theories that Gallifrey might return . In one of my earlier theories I said that someone else could have found Gallifrey before The Doctor . What if Missy found Gallifrey and is trying to or all ready did turn Gallifrey into heaven ( or heck ) . I also thought about how Clara can fit into this theory . Some people hate Clara and want her to die while other fans like Clara and want her to leave The Doctor and have her own life so she can return when ever she wants to , so how about both of these things happen . Clara can die and go to heaven or Gallifrey where she can find Danny . She and Danny can live together forever in the after life .
7 July 2015 at 07:43 #41035There’s an ancient astronaut synthesis that is terrible science and terrible history, but it might make for decent science fiction. What is Vastra’s role? She’s a shaman and even uses what suspiciously looks like hallucinogenics to induce trances that allow time travel. I would not be surprised if dimensional travel just like New Age shamanism is also possible.
I have argued that Gallifrey is permanently lost in another dimension. But they can interact with humans throughout human history. Seeds are being sown with impossible imaginary characters obtaining some sort of substance, such as Robin Hood and Santa Claus last season. The Time Lords are now the demons / angels that New Age faiths are promoting can be reached in shamanistic trances. They have infiltrated human consciousness throughout human history and are the gods of the ancient astronauts, and the beings of legend, and many other spiritual phenomena.

I think the apple is a metaphor for Gallifrey and Missy is using Gallifrey to tempt The Doctor for some reason like how the snake tempt Eve . Also Missy likes to tease The Doctor and Moffat likes to tease fans with little hints and let me leave you with this thought . Gallifrey is a red planet and apples are red fruits , so that might be a hint .
10 July 2015 at 02:04 #41094This is modern media, one has to take advantage of topical themes while one can. There will be of course some connection with Game of Thrones, but I would suspect there will also be a connection with the movie Interstellar and black holes, especially since the special effects for Interstellar’s black holes were done in the UK. Thus the astronaut suit on Clara in the trailer, and other hints. And if there is a black hole, as I have speculated before, there might be an old friend from the distant past of Dr. Who, the Hand of Omega that can both create a supernova and convert its black hole to something that can be tamed, an Eye of Harmony, the Eye of Harmony that can be the foundation for a civilization that can control time itself. The Time Lords might need a new Eye of Harmony when they start to control humans from behind the scenes as the ancient astronauts.
There might even be Omega or other beings from an anti-matter anti-universe, thus the bulky suits in the trailer. I have read one of the writers criticize the original Arc of Infinity story arc for being terribly written. Perhaps the modern writers think they can do much better.
10 July 2015 at 03:46 #41095Hi guys . I think I know the gist of Maisie Williams character . When they were filming the episode with her there was a carriage that was being robbed . As we see in the trailer she is taking off a mask . The Doctor has seen her before so what could have happen is he stopped the robbers from robbing the carriage . We know that Maisies character was in the carriage , so that is how The Doctor could know her . She could be a thief that plan the robbery so she could get money or something else from the man she was traveling with or she is not a thief but a vigilante . In the seen with the carriage she appears to be being rob and this can be part of a master plan that she came up with or she was being rob and The Doctor didn’t show up , they could meet by some other way . When she was being rob she had her hair up and was in a fancy dress so she might be from a wealthy family . After she was robbed she might go after her robbers ( or for all we know kidnappers who took the other guy ) but she doesn’t know the full story . They could have try to steal some thing that is part of this huge plan and the robbers could be aliens or could be working for aliens and that is where The Doctor comes in and saves the world with Maisies and Claras help .

Suppose the Doctor had hidden the Hand of Omega in the past and attempted to retrieve it. What he did not anticipate was Maise Williams character hiding in the container containing the Hand of Omega and becoming the new Omega when the Doctor uses the Hand to control a supernova. Suddenly mysterious creatures from another dimension start invading the regular universe. To make things even more crazy, this dimension may be the alternate Earth similar to that in the classic Pertwee-era Inferno. The Doctor realizes something has gone dreadfully wrong with the singularity in the black hole created by the Hand of Omega. Here an homage to Interstellar is inserted with Clara having to don the astronaut’s suit and enter the singularity.

11 July 2015 at 06:10 #41107Have just seen the trailer and that ending with Maisie Williams… I immediately thought Susan. I suspect that Maisie is not going to be playing just any old incidental character. She is a big name in Geekdom and they will want to use her for a significant character. She would be a perfect “fit” for Susan, a once only character certain to make a big impression because of the background of the actor. There is also that role echoing that MOffat seems to incline to, she is the wayward daughter in GoT. Here the wayward granddaughter??
Trailers are inevitably just smoke and mirrors generally designed to look good without revealing anything at all of plot or outcome so probably shouldn’t read anything at all into but is fun to speculate while twiddling one’s toes waiting until September!! That months away…

Torchwood: Fall to Earth is one of the six parts of the new radio plays Torchwood: The Conspiracy . Torchwood: Fall to Earth will released in October after the first part of The Conspiracy is released in September . After Fall to Earth they will release the rest of the four plays monthly through to February 2016 . Ianto is returning I’m so happy . I’m more happy than The Doctor when he saw Rose again , this is great news .
22 July 2015 at 04:26 #41341The Torchwood radio plays are going great . We still don’t know who will return besides Jack and Ianto . The lovely Gwen Cooper ( Eve Myles ) has still not been seen at the studios . It looks like the radio plays have been set in the year 2006 or 2007 , so we might see Owen and Tosh come back . The radio plays will be linked and will be about the same event . All the actors are in the dark about the story line , but we do know that Ianto will be in a crashing space ship , so that will be exciting .

An interview with Capaldi and Coleman from their trip to Berlin right after SDCC has some interesting comments (it’s a good interview in general, IMO) including an answer from Capaldi in which he suggests that we don’t see everything about the Doctor on screen; behind that man is another Doctor a “hidden” Doctor — an aspect of the Doctor that *does* in fact see and know all, including, presumably, the futures of people he cares about (Clara as companion in S9 was the subject) and, I suppose, his own.
What we see, he seems to be saying, is the active presence of the Doctor, which may have a general idea of where events are going but in some way masks or semi-forgets all the knowledge of the “hidden” Doctor. This was linked, in Capaldi’s answer, to “something dark” pursuing the two of them in S9.

23 July 2015 at 03:58 #41368@ichabod thanks for that link. I saw that discussion a couple of nights ago, when I was half awake, and thought of your comment earlier. In fact I thought it might have been the comment that you mentioned earlier. I was not overly cognizant at the time. It is interesting that his comment about knowing the future is in reference to the statement made by Eccles Doc about having all of space and time in his head. I interpret that as his having seen time from beginning to end and having knowledge of past and future at the universal level. I don’t think he knows everything that happens. Ie he does not necessarily know the outcome of a day’s events though he knows where the world it likely to be in a hundred years time. The future in some stories at least is mutable as well. In Pyramids of Mars he shows Sarah Jane what happens if they don’t defeat Sutekh.
Such is the maze that is Doctor Who. I think from reading that interview that Capaldi is playing the Doctor as knowing and willfully forgetting in order to survive the burden of that knowledge. That is why is often forgets important things. I also suspect that what is forgotten is not lost, just filed away very securely. “information retrievable.” The Doctor’s brain is a huge, and not always very efficient bureaucracy.
