BBC America released its synopsis of “The Pyramid at the End of the World”, plus more pics and such.
An ‘ancient’ pyramid appears overnight. Every clock in the world begins counting down to the Earth’s destruction. Three opposing armies lie ready to annihilate each other. An alien race stands ready to offer humanity a deal that could save them, but enslave them. It’s a terrifying race against time to save the world! Will the Doctor be forced to accept their help?
It’s part two of three, so…probably yes. 🙁
24 May 2017 at 17:52 #57993How we all hope the rest of the series pans out…
24 May 2017 at 20:33 #57998@jimthefish Yes, I did, and I think the themes being similar over the years have been leading the Doctor to a very important moment, not just Moffat running out of ideas. It’s as if each lesson, each puzzle, each loss was leading him to this moment. I wrote at length in several spots on how I see it all tying into themes centering around ‘Silence in the Library’ and on going themes with each companion. Glad to know someone humored a part of my bonkers theory, thank you. 😊 I thought my post was so laughable it was completely ignored, especially because I threw in “old” Who.

24 May 2017 at 22:29 #58005What are the chances that the Monks are actually Osirians, do we think?
25 May 2017 at 21:29 #5802626 May 2017 at 00:48 #58028On the Doctor Who news site they’re saying the series will be available in China now
“”up thru series 15″” So in other words we are getting at least ‘5’ more seasons !? 🙂
I believe the edit is in deference to children watching the show and I get that .
The omitted scene will more than likely be made available in some way.
26 May 2017 at 17:29 #58051Is it just me or does she look like Theresa May?
29 May 2017 at 18:06 #58221Rachel Talalay is confirmed as the director of the Xmas Spesh. She’s currently hunting down locations.
I guess this means the 13th Dr is cast by now…
Also that deal the Beeb made with the Chinese means the next 5 series of Dr Who are assured…..
29 May 2017 at 20:57 #58227Here’s more news and rumors relating to the Christmas special:
Moviepilot round up of news and rumors
The comment from Moffat was one I hadn’t seen before — the idea that after “The Doctor Falls” in the season finale, the Christmas/regeneration story will be an uplifting “tale of redemption, and hope, and deciding to carry on, instead of being a tale of the Doctor falling.”
(sniff) That does sound beautiful…Talalay’s just gone on record as saying it’s a great script.
30 May 2017 at 04:27 #58243Here are some interesting theories about what will happen in “The Lie of the Land”:
I don’t think there will suddenly be a reveal of Saxon!Master in this episode. The shot of him from the final Series 10 trailer really does seem to match up with those shots of the Mondasian Cybermen from the season finale.
I still don’t understand why, in this episode, the Doctor is dressed in the same worn-out old coat he was wearing in the Missy flashback scenes of “Extremis”. What could the significance of that be?
31 May 2017 at 19:20 #58322I just got this in my mail
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gabriel_Byrne#Filmography
go to television last entry !
31 May 2017 at 20:14 #58324Omg some one ☝️ s for a royal ass kicking from the Beeb if that is right
31 May 2017 at 21:03 #58325Aaaaand it’s gone. What did it say?
31 May 2017 at 21:40 #58326Yeah they took it down! WOW! I guess that means it’s accurate?! It said :
2017 Doctor Who The First Master Episode “Untitled Christmas Special 2017”
This was found on Gabriel Byrne’s wiki page earlier today but apparently it went poof !
BTW- New conspiracy theory- big brother is watching our spoiler posts cause the wiki page
got re-edited pretty quick!!
31 May 2017 at 21:56 #58327I tried to re paste the wiki page from earlier again but its not happening
BUT it WAS absolutely there – weird!
31 May 2017 at 22:37 #58328Well, I too saw it on the Wikipedia page before it was taken down, and it is tantalizing. Gabriel Byrne makes sense in the role. But I’m not sure I believe it. So far, by my reckoning, the following theories have been floating around concerning the Christmas special:
That it will feature the First Doctor, played by David Bradley
That it will feature an appearance by Clara (and maybe Me) in the diner Tardis
That it will feature the Time Lords
That it will involve the First and the Twelth working together to recover GallifreyAnd now, that it will also involve the First version of the Master.
This seems like an awful lot to do justice to in the space of one Christmas special. I mean, why not throw in the Rani and the Meddling Monk as well so there is a full complement of Renegade Time Lords?
I’m not saying that it won’t happen (because Moffat is the one person who might be able juggle all those balls in the air at once), but it does seem like a rather crowded special.
31 May 2017 at 22:52 #58329It was unsourced. Any wiki mod or sysop or whatever they’re called these days could remove it.
Here the diff – tagged as vandalism. No unsourced wikipedia edit should ever be taken seriously.
1 June 2017 at 00:04 #58331Yeah you’re totally right about Wiki
Maybe someone wanting some attention?
Tremendous bonkers theory!!! Scale of 1-10 its an outstanding 10.
That’s why I posted it

Yes, no surprise. Funny how people think verification, sources, evidence is somehow “unnecessary” and we can all talk bullshit till the cows dump some more. 🙂
Sources: a man’s best friend.
<Puro, eyes streaming>
PS: conjunctivitis -not laughter. Possibly weeping with laughter though: Thane would’ve been delighted considering he has memorised the entire script of The Usual Suspects and does these routines at school (Byrne was in Usual Suspects, obv) to gales of giggling.
1 June 2017 at 00:42 #58334
Apparently it’s been there since the 17th of May. It’s taken a long time to notice!
But it does have a ring of truth about it. Should probably reduce the threat level to rumour though…..
Fun fact- If you type Gabriel Byrne Doctor Who into Google you still see it in the result.
1 June 2017 at 00:52 #583351 June 2017 at 01:12 #58336No. You would be amazed the shit people put on there for lolz. My personal favourite was Bamber Gascoine being Paul Gascoine’s dad. Low traffic pages don’t always get modded quickly.
1 June 2017 at 01:40 #58339@pedant Paul Gascoine now looks like Bamber Gascoine’s dad.
I’ve heard lots of interesting rumours today, the majority being about srs 11. But the most interesting one floating out there is that Moffat wants to do a Paternoster spin off series…..
1 June 2017 at 04:08 #583421 June 2017 at 06:09 #58349Anonymous @
any interested parties… When the gang are at pyramid, with the Doctor standing outside it, Bill leans over and speaks into Nardole’s microphone. She asks, “what does that mean, 11.57?”
The Doctor replies: “also known as 3 minutes to midnight”
During that exchange the music comes across as Master-ish. The original theme threaded thru from RTD and 2007-08?
I won’t tag anyone in case they’re off the Spoiler’s page.
Just wonderin’
Puro and Thane
1 June 2017 at 13:16 #58361@janetteb A ‘P Gang’ series is probably the last thing Moffat wants to do right now, but it’s nice to imagine what it would be like…..
4 June 2017 at 22:31 #58530Matt Lucas is on twitter, heavily implying that Nardole’s knitting is going to be of great significance…..
5 June 2017 at 07:25 #585576 June 2017 at 05:12 #58612Anonymous @
So, is it possible. The Doctor’s already regenerated according to (I won’t tag) Brewski.
Great bonkers theory, btw.
But that cackling off laugh -which to my shame was actually Thane’s recognition -he was watching 10 mins with me, wandered off and said “that laugh, aint right, mother.” and he posted that comment.
So, I’m thinking why would you laugh quite like that? Just because you’re coming back after 6 months being all MI6 with the Monks?
That close up ” mwahahah” was off to both of us. I can accept he was thrilled to be piloting the prison ship out of there but I wonder about the Sim master? What if….there’s a connection? What if the writers are chameleon-arching the Doctor/Master?
6 June 2017 at 15:48 #58637@thane15 Having read a bit ahead on the next three episodes via Doctor Who Magazine reports, I don’t think they’re going in that direction with the Doctor, Puro. 😉 Bonkers theories are fun, but so far, they haven’t panned out. It was indeed Missy in the Vault; the events of “Pyramid at the End of the World” and “Lie of the Land” were “real”, not simulations; the much-teased regeneration for Twelve was an odd fakeout (possibly to misdirect away from actual spoilers for the back four episodes).
While the theories about what was real and wasn’t in the Monk Trilogy were cool, I was doubtful they would pan out simply because that would be a lot of time to spend on something that didn’t really matter if it wasn’t “real”, and because it was ultimately Bill’s big character development storyline, so it had to have some import on the show’s overall world. While it would be a huge plot twist to reveal the Doctor is actually the Master or the Valeyard, that would pretty much retroactively render a whole season of stories and character development as pointless, and carry the implication that someone thought that the actual Twelfth Doctor didn’t deserve another season, so I don’t think it will pan out that way.
A few years back Once Upon a Time spent over half a season with a previously established but killed off supporting character being rescued via time travel, complicating one of the show’s romantic relationships, only to reveal they were another thought-to-be-dead character in disguise. The fans weren’t happy about that, partially because it was very poorly foreshadowed (apparently the original character’s actress never realized she was supposed to be playing another character in disguise until she read the script where the reveal was made).
6 June 2017 at 22:16 #58652I think Nardole was knitting a scarf…
6 June 2017 at 22:42 #58657This is official, but here’s where I should’ve posted it…
7 June 2017 at 00:53 #58664Anonymous @
well, bonkers theories….Take a look at the tag line of the Forum.
We live for ’em! As for whether they pan out, don’t matter! 🙂
Mind you, yes, the Doctor as Master is total nuts -but skulls, and cackling laughter -which reminds me so much of a previous Master -or even Missy.
Possibly she’s regenerated backwards….into another…Master.
I dunno, just riffing.
We’d be nowhere with this site if we didn’t have a leedle fun, hm?
7 June 2017 at 01:34 #58668@thane15 @wolfweed @missrori (and @whisht for reasons that will become obvious)
I would absolutely love it if it turned out that Gomez has been bullshitting and Missy is the new Doctor (which could actually be shoe-horned into @brewski‘s bonkerising).
In fact I would listen to an entire Smiths album and only stab myself once.

7 June 2017 at 03:42 #58674@pedant, @thane15, @brewski, @wolfweed, @missrori, @whisht, @et al,
Peter Capaldi regenerates as Michelle Gomez…that is too brilliant for words!
She would be fabulous. She would be a female Doctor that, as an actress, we know the audience already relates to (well, the civilized section of the audience, anyway). She would play into the “is she good? is she bad?” dimension of the Doctor that is always there. She would be funny! She can run down corridors! And she can certainly command authority. And…she captures that hint about her relationship to the Doctor that was there from the very first mention of the Master by the third Doctor: “You could almost say we were at school together.”
This has to be!
7 June 2017 at 04:31 #58675Anonymous @
@blenkinsopthebrave @pedant @missrori @brewski @wolfweed and @lisa (you might love this bonkers idea!?!)
I agree. I second it! I fifth it. I concur! In every way possible. Including backwards…. 😀
What if the Sim Master splits off into a regen….. as a split personality (a bi-polar Master he was!).
And somehow the Doctor standing close to regen energy ends up regenerating into ….Missy.
But, what if something else happens? On other webs (this isn’t my own bonkers theory: I can’t take credit for it) there’s a suggestion that Pearl Mackie could be the next Doctor. On Lie of the Land I brought up Nardole’s questions:
“What are you teaching her?”
“everything” replies the Doctor. This made me wonder, personally, but I was so vexed by the Doctor’s mwababahahah laughter that I deduced he could be….someone else, already…..ie: the Master.
His decision and reaction ( in not saving the child in Thin Ice) adds evidence. And his eyesight (or lack thereof) and the comment: “I can’t see anybody ever again” together with more manic behaviour mimics the Master’s as does…….actually, the possibility of hypnosis which Delgado’s Master was known for: did the Doctor hypnotise anyone on the Munks/prison ship/Murdoch telecaster? 🙂
Still, with Pearl as the new Doctor….one we relate to and can see, what with her explicitly good marks, her ability to make decisions, her wonder at the universe (something the Doctor sees as significant in any time traveller) makes me ponder further….
As to Missy as the next Doctor, Oh Bring it!
I recall Moffat saying “we’re doing something very different. Never been done before. It could do down really well or be awful, we’re going to have to wait and see.”

7 June 2017 at 12:42 #58680So Nardole is knitting a long multi-coloured scarf for the new Doctor, Michelle Gomez? I like it…

Filming of the Xmas spesh begins in 2 weeks…
7 June 2017 at 13:06 #58681How does that tie in with PC having said he’d recorded his regeneration scene ? I presume he’s doing it twice and was only referring to the first one ?
7 June 2017 at 13:40 #58682I presume so (guess he said it to make people buy into the ‘death scene’). He confirms the film dates in this vid.
7 June 2017 at 13:43 #58683Guys. This may well be a real spoiler (it is inferred to be a leak by an semi-insider), with a significant impact (or more likely total bullshit) from last summer. However, it has the potential to significantly impact on how you may view the remainder of Season 10. You may therefore not want to read it.
@craig @jimthefish Is it possible to partially hide the text below. I really dont want to cause problems for anyone.
Whilst looking for a half remembered quote from Off on series 10 yesterday afternoon, I came across this website from August 2016, discussing rumours around the time of the filming for s10. One guy commented, which I have reproduced below:
driclives24 Aug 2016a2
I’ve not signed anything so I suppose I can say this: Mackie will stay on after Capaldi because Mackie IS his replacement, the Thirteenth Doctor. Dunno if the rumors about a conflict over scripts are correct, but you can see why there might be some conflict with having two Doctors on the show for a full series.
”Word is that eventually the Doctor will realise that “Bill” is the human manifestation of his good side; torn from him during his impending regeneration. She’ll be restored to full Time Lord by the end of the series. They’ve not even worked to hide it; her character is named after William Hartnell.”
If I had read that last year, then I would have been very doubtful about anyone claiming inside knowledge. It describes quite a far out scenario, which will cool, I would normally tend to discount as someone feeding people a line to create noise. However, I havent heard any mention of this theory (but I doubt I would given I dont search out spoilers).
However, in light of the strange things which have happened so far in S10 (the fake regeneration, the Doctor’s strange behaviour, the Doctor planning to educate Bill on “everything” etc), it looks much more likely to be a real leak as the scenario seems to tie into what we have witnessed on screen so far. It seems credible, especially given it was written last August.
Two other things, which make it more believable to me.:
- It would be a very Moff thing to do and would certainly a huge sign-off for him
- We all know that the ARSE inclined on the web forums, are likely to go into hyperdrive over a female or coloured actor being cast to play the Doctor. By presenting us with Bill for a season, especially as Pearl has proven to be a very fine actor and capable of carrying the show, Moff would undercut so much of that hysteria.
I shared this with @wolfweed and @Thane15 yesterday as I wasnt sure that I should publish. However, having seen the most recent speculation along these lines (with Missy) above, I have concluded that even though I remain very doubtful, that it would be worth sharing.
7 June 2017 at 14:14 #58685@nick @thane15 …er… et al
From the Popbitch mailout:
(I wasn’t going to post this, because it is a bit depressing, but it provides some counter view to the “insider” source. Popbitch is scurrilous but does tend to have good contacts and a keen understanding of defamation law…)
>> Who’s next? <<
Cast list getting shorterPearl Mackie has been hugely popular with fans as the Doctor’s new sidekick on Doctor Who, but behind the scenes? Not so much.
Perhaps she’s too focused on delivering a good performance on screen, but Pearl just seems to forget her manners on set. Her behaviour was described by various members of the cast and crew as ranging from “grossly rude” to “eye-wateringly rude” – and she also spent a fair bit of time giving unrequested lectures on acting to the Doctor himself, Peter Capaldi.
Of course, Capaldi won’t have to deal with it any longer as he’s not coming back next series. But if the rumours going around are correct, neither will she.
7 June 2017 at 14:25 #58686Interesting. The original article on the web page the comment was attached to (and the comment itself) referred to some of these issues, although not as much detail.
Moff has said that Chibbers will be in charge of the immediate post regen scene at Christmas. That may imply a reveal at that point (and therefore an announcement this autumn ?). I would have thought CC’s involvement with Broadchurch would have run down late last year, before it was shown. He’s presumably had a fair amount of time to decide, even if S11 scripts aren’t finished yet.
I dont know If I beleive this, but it doesnt seem to be outright impossible. I would love to see Missy = Doctor too, but I think that is less likely than this idea. I suspect Missy will pitch in Bill to help the Doctor (somehow) and regenerate into Simm Master in time for the finale (s10 or Christmas ?). Given the christmas special will deliver the end of D12, I suspect the end of series 10 will be a cliff hanger with the Doctor in a serious predicament.
Thanks. I hadnt seen this before.
7 June 2017 at 16:26 #58687@pedant
Well, yes, that was a bit depressing. If true, it would seem to re-affirm my belief that real life is so often less appealing that bonkerising about the fictional world.7 June 2017 at 18:29 #58689@All
Zoe Ball must be being defrosted as we speak…..
The end of the Hay Festival vid tells us this regen is going to be something bonkers & never seen before.
Maybe the Doctor will regenerate into a talking cabbage?

Gatiss on BBC 1 in half an hour…
7 June 2017 at 20:09 #58690Probably not a talking cabbage though, as Chibbers has said he doesn’t want to do a gimmicky casting…
Moffat has previously stated that Dickens’ A Christmas Carol is his default story. Perhaps the Xmas spesh will feature 3 ghosts and end with the Dr sending a little boy off to buy a giant turkey…..
7 June 2017 at 20:57 #58691@wolfweed Perhaps it will be like that! Moffat did say the special would be an uplifting rejoinder to the season finale after all.. 😉
7 June 2017 at 21:28 #58692But Who would play the cabbage?
Collard Baker?
Sylvester Savoy
or perhaps Peter Kale-paldi?
7 June 2017 at 21:41 #58693Regardless of that particular piece of rumour, I think you need ask whether we think Chibbers is a risk taker or not. If you look at the general run of AG episodes, each new companion is given two or three episodes to get their feet under the table. Introducing a new Doctor is riskier still.
RTD had no choice, but would you as a new producer/show runner team (with the BBC hierarchy looking over your shoulder) take the risk to introduce both a new Doctor and new companion/assistant/whatever ? Even more so if you haven’t cast another young middlish aged white man (with all the uproar that could generate) ?
I could have seen Moff do it (but he didn’t), but Chibnall ? Also do we, the general audience, really want to go through a hard reset immediately after a soft one ? It has its appeal, but given the commercial pressures involved, everything suggests that Pearl is safe for at least half of S11.
I read (but typically cant find) that Moff said that he was he was looking forward (ie for the future of the show). Even if Moff wasnt involved in the panel decision for his replacement, its unbelievable he wouldnt have been asked his opinion. I also find it highly unlikely that Moff and Chibnall havent talked to make the transition as smooth as possible either. I’m sure Moff would have handed over any scripts/script ideas he’d collected but not used, even if Chibnall chooses not to use them.
