I wanted an older Doctor. He was brilliant in The Hour – well worth a watch in preparation for next year.

He certainly wouldn’t get away with that accent. I want something different and he’s got a wonderfully rakish grin.

    I’m for Joe Gilgun.

@chickenelly  That would also allow for an incredibly stubborn and frugal nemesis of The Professor. The Doctor would never see that water bottle coming.

I’ve now experienced that awful moment of losing my Doctor. So long Matt and thanks for all the fishfingers.

@timeloop This is what I mean. I’m over-thinking everything with this series to the extent that I’m not considering the plain obvious. Thanks for the words of logic realignment.

@timeloop There was a different trailer shown. I’m refusing to watch it but I imagine that shows more than She said, he said.

That title made me think of the Beatles song She Said, She Said. There are lines about loneliness and sadness in there… Released in 66, so perhaps another cheeky nod to Who’s history and the start of Troughton. As with most of this series’ theorising, I JUST DON’T KNOW ANYMORE.

Did anyone else think that the Doctor’s comment about the tightness of Clara’s dress puts to rest the Susan theory? I can’t see room for a comedic ‘eww’ moment next week.

@phaseshift I loved Sandman. Stunning series. Other Gaiman tropes that emerged: the wandering Cyber-hand is similar to the hand of the Other Mother in Coraline. American Gods explores the fading fortunes of the gods who have lost their believers – interesting that this episode raised the possibility of the universe remembering the god-like Doctor.

    I loved it.

Porridge talking about ‘the poor blighter who had to press the button’ was a wonderful double reference. If we’re spotting recurrent themes/ideas, the line ‘I think you do it with mirrors’ has such relevance for the whole of this series, with Clara being the trick reflected throughout time and space.

“That’s why the psychic link was so powerful; blood calling to blood out of time.” Certainly adds credence to the Susan/Clara theory. The device used to record the presence of the ‘ghost’ was clearly coloured with red and blue; the red remains steady and consistent, whilst the blue goes bonkers – much like our increasingly odd Doctor. The lingering shot of the Doctor drinking milk reminded me of him asking Oswin about her soufflés and “where did you get the milk?”

@tiddler Over-enthusiasm leading to a lack of accuracy. Apologies. However, a shard and a sliver can both be broken pieces of something and there’s undoubtedly something broken about the Doctor, as well as the Claras.

Just thinking about the ‘shard of ice in his heart.’ We had the Shard in Episode 1 – were there any in Rings and Cold War?

Grand-daughters, music at the centre of the house, fracturing, dark-Doctor (a shard of ice in his heart). Loved it.

@juniperfish Salve! Couldn’t resist joining in.

Could Sindy be a hint towards The Celestial Toymaker? It would fit with the notion of ‘fictional’ realities to challenge the Doctor, and in turn fit with some of the doppelganger theories.

“It’s set in 1974 and features… ah, but that would be telling…” I have my fingers crossed for Bessie.

Sindy was launched in the same year as Doctor Who – trying to work out a deeper significance than that.
