    @nerys

    Exactly – Ashildr is a wonderful character because she is shades of gray.

    She was a storyteller and a young hothead as a girl. Her bravado brought the Mire back to her village. Her consent to wear the Mire helmet as part of the Doctor’s plan of trickery then saved her village, but killed her in the process.

    And the gift the Doctor gave…[Read more]

    I was trying to track down an old post I made to try and answer the questions of @frobisher and @nerys above. In my post #34221, I talked about making a post on the Trailers thread. But I do not seem to be able to find that thread. Any advice?

    @nerys Thanks!  Plausible, but not very bonkers, I’m afraid.  :p

    @nerys – Here’s the best I can work out about the ending.  The story we were made to believe for most of the episode was as follows:

    — Rasmussen creates Morpheus Mk. 2 machines.  Something about the machines causes your eye boogers to evolve into Sandman creatures who want to eat people.

    — Rasmussen is somehow under psychic control by these m…[Read more]

    @nerys   I’d missed the `Doctor Who’ in the coding. @DoctorDoctorWho spotted that; excellent catch!

    Isn’t the big take away from this episode that, for once, the Doctor lost? As noted by @jimmyp he didn’t just win and then leave behind issues or a mess (a big theme this series), but he lost.

    Still pondering (among other things): How, exactly,…[Read more]

    @nerys and @drben. Yes, I agree Missy had a huge part in the creation of Clara, but I can see River and Missy working together all too easily.

  • lisa replied to the topic The Zygon Inversion

    I agree with @Frobisher that a Claricle came out of the time stream now.
    @Nerys I believe Missy chose Clara for her own scheme but might not be an actual part
    of the Claradox. @DrBen The end scene in the Tardis where the Doctor could
    barely look at her meant to me that he saw a glimpse of a bad Clara,( the enemy…[Read more]

    @nerys – Agreed.  BUT, we re-watched Name of the Doctor last night after Zygon Inversion, and there is still some sort of connection between River and Clara that remains unexplored.

  • Carrieanne replied to the topic On The Sofa (7)

    @nerys I thought immediately of Donna when I saw your screen name.  I agree with you I think however Clara leaves will be heartbreaking.  There are worse things than Death when traveling with the time lord.  My feeling right now is that I think she will die.  It seems to me that the episodes are out of order.  Not backward, but more the Dr is jump…[Read more]

    @Arbutus

    A Zygon took Kate’s form at the original treaty negotiation, but we don’t know that the Zygon kept that form afterward. Since no mention was ever made, I’m inclined to think it didn’t.

    The possibility that the Zygon who copied Kate in The Day of the Doctor had survived in that form had not occurred to me, although the existence of two Kat…[Read more]

    @PhaseShift and others      Yes, I meant to add that Coleman was fantastic. There really were two completely different characters in the room, and she completely sold me as the Zygon rebel. @nerys

    which version of Kate are we seeing?

    You posted that while I was writing mine above.  Maybe the ambiguity was deliberate.

    I took the disagreement as to the amount of time that had passed to the fact that Clara had spent most of it in a quasi-dream state and, as in dreams, here time sense was distorted.  What we were seeing was a highly t…[Read more]

    You are all right! I also think those scenes with the 2 little girls/Zygons and UNIT soldiers

    @nerys  @Avaris   A minor point to note in passing also: the gravestone we saw must mark a cenotaph, not a grave with a body in it, since the Osgood zapped by Missy was reduced to a small pile of dust which would have been dispersed to the winds when the plane disintegrated.

  • Avaris replied to the topic The Zygon Invasion

    @nerys we have no idea Osgood is human or Zygon.

    The reason there is no name and other information of the dead Osgood is probably that the UNIT don’t want to leak out any information about Operation Double out to the public.  It will be quite bizarre when the alive Osgood visit the dead Osgood grave.  This may raise some questions and induce s…[Read more]

    If I’ve missed any other cocktail theorists in working through the comments, my apologies.
    My original puzzlement over “cocktail” was not just with the word, but with what seemed to me the modern manner in which it was offered to Ashildr/Lady Me, as if could almost have been a moment from a cockta…[Read more]

    @bluesqueakpip  when Series 2, Series 3, Series 6 and Series 7a of the After Gap Series all had an ongoing romantic arc. As Jim says, times change – we had to go through that arc to get the Doctor to a place (effectively, he’s a widower) where he can say that his Companions are far more like surrogate family than they are romantic interests. He i…[Read more]
