    @phaseshift It’s strange that New Order, which was pretty much Joy Division minus one member, sounded like a completely different band. I guess Ian brought something that they couldn’t recapture after he died.
    BTW have you read Peter Hook’s book, there’s quite a bit of information about Joy Division.

    I wish that when a character states at the beginning of a story that they are going to die, they would actually die, particularly if they’re just going to be brought back in the most stupid way possible.

    The whole Daleks vs Cybermen battle is awesome, until you realise it’s the parallel earth Cybermen and you get really angry, yelling at the screen “what were they thinking?”

    Also has anyone noticed that the Doctor and Rose have been acting really obnoxious the past few episodes? he does get a bit p***ed off at her towards the end of Doomsday for this but that just shows how inconsistent the 10th Doctor is written. Why are they supposed to be in love any way. I don’t have a problem with him having romantic feelings for a companion but shouldn’t it be someone he’s got more in common with than Rose? you know, someone like Romana or Liz Shaw. Not that he shouldn’t care for her or see her as a friend, but I don’t think he should be in love with her.

    Well I watched Godzilla, and I liked it. There have been some complaints that Godzilla is hardly in the film. Firstly these people haven’t watched any of the other Godzilla films, if they had they would know he’s hardly in those either. Secondly, they do not understand the concept of building suspense. For example you hardly see the shark in Jaws until the end, meaning that when you do see the shark it has more impact than if it had been show right at the start. Obviously Jaws is a better film than this but the same basic principle applies, meaning that when Gojira was shown onscreen in full it was a very membrable moment, for me at least.

    @purofilion Actually the two Up the Junction songs are somewhat related. The Waterman film was based on a book, which was also adapted as a BBC play by Ken Loach, which is what inspired Squeeze to write their song.

    Here’s the rejected theme for the James Bond film The Man With the Golden Gun by Alice Cooper. I can see why they picked Lulu’s, this doesn’t sound anything like a Bond theme.

    I think this may be my 5th favourite Pertwee behind Inferno, Spearhead from Space, Time Warrior and Carnival of Monsters. I like stories where his Doctor gets a chance to go to places outside of present day earth. Nothing wrong with the Earth-bound stories, it’s just that there’s far too many of them for my liking. At least the Pertwee era has an excuse for him to hang around present day Earth unlike nu-who (can I call it that or do I have to say AG?)

    @purofilion Are you talking about Common People? I’m surprised you haven’t heard of it. Here in Britain the original version by Pulp is considered a classic, although Shatners is more well known in the US.

    I don’t see the problem either. He wasn’t using the word in a derogatory manner, he was singing a well known nursery rhyme. He didn’t even say it he mumbled it. Secondly, the footage wasn’t even broadcast so it’s not breaking any broadcasting rules. Thirdy, like you and @bluesqueakpip said, he’s putting on a character. Why do people not understand this.

    I really hated Rose in this. Dozens of people are killed throughout the episode and all she cares about is weather or not she wins a bet. She ruins an otherwise decent episode.

    Fun fact: Pauline Collins, the actress who plays Queen Victoria, also played Samantha Briggs in The Faceless Ones back in 1967. She was offered the chance to continue playing the character as a companion but she declined.

    Thanks, I’ve always liked Brosnan as an actor (although I find his bond a bit bland). I actually just watched Long Good Friday for the first time today, eerily I bought my copy on Tuesday, the day Bob Hoskins died.

    @scaryb You’re right, in fact Ray Davies had to fly back to England in the middle of an American tour just to change that one line. The same thing happened again to the song Apeman because when he sang “a-foggin’ up my eyes” it sound like something else.

    Btw, they didn’t change Coca-Cola because it was offensive, they changed it because the BBC wasn’t allowed to advertise products.

    @purofilion I actually was a bit of a closet ABBA fan because I was afraid that people might think I was gay if they knew, not that there’s anything wrong with that, it’s just that at school some people assumed I was when I’m not and I didn’t want to give them more wood to throw on the fire. Then I realised there’s nothing gay about liking a band fronted by two attractive women.

    I have to admit, this one is a bit of a guilty pleasure. I know it’s bad but I can’t help but enjoy it. It’s all the things wrong with RTD2’s era put together to form a masterpiece of glorious stupidity.
    You may be thinking how I can like this yet complain about episodes such as Aliens of London being stupid, well the difference is this episode made me laugh. For example I find the scenes Cassandra impersonating Rose and The Doctor hilarious. You can tell that Billie and David are really enjoying camping it up.
    I dislike the ending though, it doesn’t really fit with the tone of the rest of the episode. It’s like RTD2 is saying “all right kiddies, for the first 40 minutes we’re going to have campy fun, but in the last 5 I’m going to teach you an important lesson about death being a natural part of life”. Yes, that is an important lesson for kids to learn, but considering what came before it, it feels really jarring.

    Anyway, I still enjoy this episode no matter what anyone else thinks.
