@serahni if you’re looking for other Doctor Who forums, Planet Mondas is a good one. I’m a member there myself.

    Hi, welcome to the forum.

Dont worry, you can watch the new series before you watch the classic series, as long as you still watch the classic series eventually (which you seem to be doing). I hate it when people only watch the new series, it would be fine if they watched a couple of classic episodes and felt that it just wasn’t for them, they’ve at least made the effort. It’s when people can’t be bothered to watch it because “it’s old” and completely ignore it’s existence that gets on my wick. But I’m just rambling, as I said you’re not like that.

Also as @monochromedimension said you don’t need to watch the classic series in order, I’ve been watching it since I was a toddler in the late 90’s and I haven’t even seen half of the stories.

I wasn’t really that interested in how Sherlock faked his death. Any answer, no matter how clever it is, couldn’t possibly live up to the expectations the fans have had for the past 2 years. Also its never explained how Holmes survived his “death” in the books,  so Conan Doyle didn’t think it was that important either.

For those interested, they start filming series 8 on Monday.

To be honest I don’t really know why I became a fan. It had been off the air for several years when I watched it, and it wasn’t somthing I watched religiously, as I said in my previous post I would watch the odd repeat on UK Gold. It wasn’t the new series either, I was already a fan by that point.

I suppose it was because my dad used to watch it. He was an alcoholic and could become violent. He never hit me but I was terrified of him. After my parents divorced I told him I would only see him if he gave up drinking, he didn’t and I haven’t seen him since. When he wasn’t drunk (which wasn’t very often) he was great. I have fond memories of watching films and TV shows with him, including Doctor Who. I still enjoy a lot of the things I would watch with him today, either because of them being some of the few happy memories memories I have of him or because he had good taste.

I’m a member on two Doctor Who related forums (including this one), and I must be the only person on both who doesn’t like it. Never understood what’s so good about it.

Wait, if Matt Smith is the 13th, why did he start to regenerate in the Impossible Astronaut?

I think Matt’s costume really suits Peter, maybe he should wear something similar (a bit like Hartnell and Troughton).

I couldn’t make out most of what Capaldi was saying at the end, the sound mixing on that bit was awful.
I did not like it at all, very disappointed.

What’s taking them so long to release the Underwater Menace DVD? Part 2 was found in 2011, they’ve had two years to release it. I know it’s not the most highly regarded story, but it’s the only surviving episode that has not had any kind of commercial release.

I have heard that Paul McGann might be reappearing in series 8. I think that due to the popularity of Night of the Doctor, this theory might have some truth in it.

Here’s a strange coincidence. There’s a scene in the thick of it where someone mentioned Doctor Who, and it cuts straight to Peter Capaldi.

I heard somewhere that the voice that says “no sir, all 13” when Peter Capaldi appears, is actually Capaldi himself. After watching the clip again, I noticed that it does sound quite like him. What do you all think?

Am I the only one hoping that Frazier Hines comes back so that we can get the obligatory The Thick of It references (there’s a character in that called Jamie for those who don’t know).

@whisht that’s an interesting theory your brother has. At the moment the only film I feel like watching is Superman (1978).

I hope the male teacher is a companion, I always like the male companions (except for Adric and Rory). I’m guessing that if he is he might be a Harry Sullivan type character, good natured and heroic but a bit of a bumbler. I don’t know, something about him gave me that impression.

Well that was…. Excellent. A fitting tribute to 50 years of time and space.
I’d like to think that perhaps somewhere, @htpbdet is watching it, with McShe and their little ones as well. May they all enjoy it and rest in peace.

The first episode is one of the finest peices of television I have ever seen. The other 3 parts are a step down in quality but are still entertaining.

I liked that during the scene where Rex Tucker is looking at potential Doctors, one of the photos was of Peter Cushing. A subtle reference to the Dalek films perhaps?

@wolfweed how exactly is Mr. Coburn entitled to anything. The exterior design of the tardis is in the public domain, the interior design was created by the production department at the BBC and the concept had already been created before the episode was written. I guess his father could have come up with the name tardis, but he’s making it sound like the whole thing was his idea, which it so clearly wasn’t.

I was born in the 90’s so I would watch repeats on UK TV Gold. My earliest memory was the scene from Dr. Who and the Daleks where Peter Cushing accidentally burns the cakes. Other early memories include The Green Death, Genesis of the Daleks and the Invasion of Time. The first story I saw the whole way through was the Twin Dilemma.

There’s been no mention of the Zygons in any of the trailers, which is strange since they’ve been confirmed to appear in the special. Maybe it has something to do with Queen Elizabeth.

I for one am looking forward to Peter Capaldi’s take on the Doctor. He has the potential to be one of the best.
