As you were. I hopefully stand corrected. S12 airing in Autumn 2019.

Though interesting speculation that Chibnall and Whittaker might go afterwards. Where, one wonders, would that leave the much-vaunted five-year deal?

s12 is definitely in pre-production, although the early stages if the chat on Twitter and thereabouts is to be believed. I suppose it’s theoretically possible that we could see it late in 2019 but I doubt it, not with the amount of post that Who requires. I’m pretty sure they were well under way with filming s11 by this time last…[Read more]

@CathAnnabel

Thank you. It does sometimes feel as if I have reached a stage in which life is throwing just one damn thing after another at me, but so far I keep bouncing back 🙂 The hospital phoned this morning to give me a date for my appointment with the dermatologists – 12 pm on 26th of this month, so only ten days to wait. I’m hoping t…[Read more]

@bluesqueakpip Oh, I agree completely. I was responding to the idea that a companion leaving voluntarily implied that the experience of travelling with the Doctor was unrewarding. I think it would be great if s […]

@bluesqueakpip – I really like your analysis of where we are right now on your blog.
And I’m sure there are ‘fixed moments’ in the future that can’t be changed (not just Earth’s past).
So I can see how Ryan and Yas (and us the audience) would and should feel “but this is wrong – I should be able to make a difference!!!”

On a separate point about…[Read more]

@bluesqueakpip @kevinwho Martha left the Doctor by her own choice, and frankly it was the moment when I actually respected her the most. There could be loads of reasons for giving up the TARDIS, pa […]

@bluesqueakpip @kevinwho I’ve marked ‘her’ as a spammer. So hopefully no more emails or comments. But let me know if you get any.

@bluesqueakpip Has she done anything wrong? I haven’t seen anything public. Is she sending private messages?

• MissRori replied to the topic Dr Who News (4)

@bluesqueakpip I agree that as strong as “The Doctor Falls” was as a story, it would have been an awfully unfitting end for a Doctor who went through as much unusually personal heartache as Twelve did. Having him die alone right after all that sacrifice and disappointment, with no reassurance that it wasn’t all for nothing to try and redeem…[Read more]

@bluesqueakpip I really do think Moffat is a genuine, old-school genius. He’d be up there with Pinter and Dennis Potter if he hadn’t chosen to do comedies and Doctor Who.

I agree; and damn, I *miss* that high […]

@kevinwho That’s interesting. Personally, I never felt that the RTD and Moffat eras felt all that similar (although of course, the whole Last of the Time Lords/Time War arc ran through both). It’s true though, that RTD’s arcs were less complex, less timey-wimey, than Moffat’s. I preferred Moffat, n…[Read more]

@bluesqueakpip Thanks for this fabulous recap. You’ve solidified the sense I’ve been getting of a thematic arc that deals with what I feel are some of the most pressing issues of our times (not to imply that the […]

But don’t forget the first RTD series, which essentially threw everything including the kitchen sink at the audience. That was a bit – wobbly
I know, it always surprises me to see that more tha […]

Great blog, as ever, Pip. I think you’re definitely right that Chibnall’s intention is to take Who fans out of their comfort zone in the sense of expanding the frames of reference over what a Who […]

it might be that the change from the direction of the Moffat years is so great that it’s going to take a series to get your head round

That’s distinctly possible, of course, but I’ve seen a number of dramatic changes in direction over the years, not all I’ve cared for (the shift from the sublime Hinchcliffe/Holmes era to the W…[Read more]

@mudlark Yaz . I thought I knew my Nan … But if this is true, if this is her life, then she lied to me.

Graham. … that girl in there, she ain’t your nan, yet. It’s only later that she’ll decide how to tell it. And I honestly don’t know whether any of us know the real truth about our own lives’.

This was the first hint of serious depth in this…[Read more]
