Re the bird on the Doctor’s desk; if it is meant to be a raven it was modelled by somebody who had never looked at one.  The size appears about right as far as I could tell, and it appeared to have a heavy beak similar to that of a corvid, but the legs and the neck are much too long, the body insufficiently chunky, and the ov…[Read more]

@CountScarlioni – thank you soooo much for telling us (or was it only me??!) that its Reynolds!
I was pulling my (non-existent) hair out as to those prints!

And I know this is probably irrelevant as its been many many years since I saw Educating Rita and I’ve no idea if there are deliberate or accidental echoes of it in the opening scene of The…[Read more]

@countscarlioni  Thanks, yes, I think so too.  I have a friend in Bristol, a publisher (years ago) of a feminist press in London that put out some things of mine in the UK.  I really need to visit her, before we (the crowd that was so active in these sorts of things in the genre) all croak . . . !

  • ichabod replied to the topic Dr Who News (4)

@countscarlioni  Thanks for the link to the interview with Sarah Dollard — liked it very much.  In particular, love the idea of going back in time in her Tardis to see great theater performances, which reminded me of historic ballet performances and other “lost” moments in the ephemeral arts — yes!  Of course!  “Hamilton”, wow, that would be gre…[Read more]

Thanks for that. Matt Smith was fun and played his part well, but there is no comparison between him and Peter Capaldi. You all know who gets my vote.

Gordon Bennett, could this be the demise of Doctor Who.

    Pass the bottle!

  • Kharis replied to the topic Doctor Who News (3)

@countscarlioni This is terrible news.  I hope it’s just stretching a truth to be news worthy.  The loss of Capaldi would be entirely too much.

  • @CountScarlioni

The missing bit of logic there is that Capaldi might well be CC’s choice…

(But I am fairly sure Capaldi has also spoken in terms of 3 seasons being optimal)

The Mirror’s logic, obv – not yours. And at least it doesn’t have the anti-BBC agenda of the Murdoch, Desmond and Barclay press.

“I suppose a related issue is, Will Peter Capaldi choose to stand down at the same time as SM?”

Wash your mouth out! Don’t even think about it. *shudders*

@countscarlioni I was wondering the same thing. I really hope he doesn’t because it feels like he’s only just warming up, but he might want to leave Chibnall a clean slate. I hope this extended time off makes him miss it enough to want to stick around for at least S11.

Read the article by Streven Moffat. It’s a relief to know that DW can go on replacing itself and it’s crew, but what ifthey “can’t get the parts?”

@countscarlioni Indeed! And, in Hell Bent the Doctor specifically mentions he remembers there was a Mummy on the Orient Express.  The parallel perhaps being that in MOTOE the Doctor took on a similar challenge of certain death within minutes unless the puzzle was solved, as Clara went on to do.

  • Mudlark replied to the topic Hell Bent

    @CountScarlioni

Once the Doctor, assuming he truly did not remember Clara in the diner scene, got back into his own Tardis, would he not immediately search the Tardis’s data banks for “Clara” and recover at least some of the lost memories? For him, it’s surely only a temporary loss of some memories. Have I missed something? Is there somethi…

I don’t have even any wildly desperate hand-waving, speculative tries to answer that. Though based on a second watch, when the Doctor travels to meet Me, he does not say how much farther forward in time he’s travelled (or did I miss it?).

No- it’s not clear, but the TL general said “Gallifrey is currently positioned at the ext…[Read more]

@countscarlioni  Thanks for that, I figured it out when my brain started working.  It’s those bootstrap paradoxes at work, I keep forgetting that the first “Claras” we met were considered echoes by the narrative and not Clara Prime!

But according to a new paper, there’s one theory for the origins of the universe that predicts time itself will end in just five billion years—coincidentally, right around the time our sun is slated to die.” If so, things would sort of work.
