19 October 2015 at 03:55 #45090“God of Battle = Minister of War?”
Very good! That’s a distinct possibility. It also explains why the Doctor hadn’t heard of the minister of War in “Before the Flood”. In his time line he hadn’t created her yet… I hope your idea bears fruit.

I enjoyed writing this blog.
16 October 2015 at 02:48 #44850Here’s a link to my latest blog post, theorising and speculating on who (or what) the mysterious character of Ashildr could be. Feel free to leave a comment with questions or your own theory or speculation about Ashildr. š

yes, I know that Mr Fish but thank you for stating the blatantly obvious.
Incidently, “jimmythetupid”? Is that meant to be funny?
13 October 2015 at 02:23 #44644Pure and utter speculation on my part, but on the unannounced topic of “Who or what could Maisie Williams’ character be in The Girl Who Died…I think….
She’s a TARDIS, possibly a War TARDIS lost from the Last Great Time War, that made it’s way to Earth… or possibly the Master’s TARDIS (where has that been all this time, anyway?). Either way a TARDIS would be able to help the Doctor find Gallifrey.
Anyone else have any speculation to add?
12 October 2015 at 04:18 #44564The term “bootstrap” derives from a paradox being likened to someone trying to lift themselves off the ground by their bootstraps (or laces). I.e. It’s something that, in pure theory with no relation to natural laws is possible but due to natural laws should not be possible. It’s the suspension of the rules to enable the impossible.
9 October 2015 at 04:08 #44354For those interested in a Doctor Who Podcast where they review each episode of the show after it’s aired, I listen to The Doctor’s Companion. Three American hosts present the show and they’re really very good, in my opinion. They each have good insights into the episode and mix it up with some humour as well.
They’ve just released the latest episode reviewing Under the Lake and you can listen or get it here…

“one could see it imprinted on their eyes.Ā Ā Like an ocular transmission? It could just be typically clever cinematography”
No, it’s definitely the reason that people get earwormed, and that’s why the Ghost didn’t killed that one crew member who hadn’t been inside the ship. Because he hadn’t been earwormed so couldn’t become a transmitter.
Another thingĀ I want to know (and please educate me if I missed it) is why the TARDIS couldn’t translate the insription on the ship’s wall…
8 October 2015 at 05:18 #44308@purofilion, I’m perfectly happy to put a small wager on it with you, puro… I may be half a world away but shall we put a drink on it? (we’ll work out the logistics later). š
8 October 2015 at 05:00 #44306@jphamlore, Aaahhh! Thank you. I understand.
I’ve not Ā been here long myself but the people who frequent this forum all seem to be wonderful and their theories are great!
8 October 2015 at 04:48 #44304@jphamlore, forgive my ignorance but what exactly is meant by “breaking the fourth wall”? This is the second time I’ve seen that term today…
8 October 2015 at 04:34 #44302@purofilion
Oh no, no. I certainly haven’t felt like you’ve put me down at all. There have been people who’ve disagreed with my theory despite all the evidence I’ve collected (fools! š ) and I truly do respect peoples right to disagree. In fact, the more people throw up reasons why I might be wrong simply spurs me to finding even more evidence. š
8 October 2015 at 04:28 #44301Oh yes! I’d forgotten her mother’s maiden name was Ravenwood…
8 October 2015 at 04:03 #44297@purofilion
I respect your right to doubt. I collect a sizable amount of “clues” that I’ve posted in my blog on the subject. Feel free to read them if you haven’t already.
http://martinstenersen.blogspot.co.nz/2015/10/a-crazy-clara-theory.html
You said it yourself, Professor Yana was nothing like the Master, yet he was the Master. Likewise, the teacher, John Smith, was nothing like the 10th Doctor either but we all know where that went…
Regarding Clara’s mourning for Danny, she’s not. She’s well and truly over it. This is also substantiated by a comment Steven Moffat made on the subject and I’m buggered if I can find the link to it now. But he essentially said something like: Clara has moved on from Danny’s death. Like she said she was not really very good at relationships anyway. Seem a bit cold? Yes, it does. Cold enough to be a Master-ish type of respond? Why, yes, it is.
Steven Moffat has also said that “the mystery surrounding Clara has not yet bee resolved… it’s almost like it’s building to something”. I’m paraphrasing but that’s the gist of what he said.
I will keep looking for those clues and add them to my blog as until we get to “Face the Raven”…
7 October 2015 at 05:18 #44247@purofilion
Oh no. If I’m right then I believe Missy knows exactly who Clara is. I believe this was actually Missy’s idea in the first place, to cross her time line with a previous incarnation of herself (just as the Doctor(s) have done) and use the Chameleon Arch to de-Master-ise Clara.
Missy knew that the Doctor wouldn’t kill her on Skaro. How? because Clara is Missy’s previous regeneration. She therefore knows exactly when and where Clara will die. And when Clara dies, if she’s not de-Chameleon Arched, then Missy never happens. So, Clara will become the Master again in her final episode!…. if I’m right.
7 October 2015 at 04:39 #44243I have expounded upon my Clara theory in a few differnet posts here with bits and pieces of information here and there. If anyone is interested in read my theory with all the information relating to it that I’ve colleted so far, then feel free to pop on over to my newly created blog (on Google+) and have a read. Feel free to leave a comment if you so desire.

6 October 2015 at 23:13 #44223You said way up above… “Is Clara somehow āthe enemy inside a friendā?”
Well, there’s a few people here skeptical of my theory but I think, yes, she is. I could turn out to be horrendously wrong but, at this point, I think Clara is an incarnation of the Master, the one after John Simm, who has used a Chameleon Arch to hide her identity. Why? Well I’ve accumulated a LOT of clues that could point to this being right… or they could just be coincidence. But it’s a LOT of coincidence. I’d be happy to share but it’d make for a very long post here.
30 September 2015 at 04:19 #43821Further to the above, Stephen Moffat (as you’ve probably read) had to say this about the order of Missy’s Master and whether she came after John Simm…
āIn my head, as it stands, sheās the one after John. But my researches arenāt complete, so Iād better say nothing, as Iāve been wrong before. You couldāve knocked me over with a feather when the War Doctor turned up in The Name of the Doctor.ā
So it’s entirely possible that Clara (if she is the Master) came after John Simm and Missy came after Clara.
30 September 2015 at 04:04 #43820@purofilion @221badwolf
221badwolf, correct we did see Clara’s time line in “Ring’s” but don’t under-estimate the power of the Moff when he writes lines like…Ā “Why this one? Why did I choose this face? Itās like Iām trying to tell myself something. Like Iām trying to make a point. But what is so important that I canāt just tell myself what I think?”
If the Doctor can appear with a face of someone he previously encountered perhaps the Master can too…..
He can’t tell himself what he thinks because he doesn’t know. Perhaps the TARDIS ‘helped’ this to happen to make a point to him? Perhaps that’s also why the TARDIS doesn’t like Clara…?
29 September 2015 at 02:49 #43744Oh, I agree. Half the fun of this season is going to be deciphering all the little clues until we finally work out or are told the answer to the Great Mystery.
Whichever theory happens to be the right one, it’s going to be a whole lot of awesome watching it unravel. š
29 September 2015 at 00:28 #43739This was a brilliant episode. I wasn’t completely convince with TMA but this put it into context wonderfully to make a great two parter. I really think (and still do after this episode) that Clara is the Master, an incarnation prior to Missy who used a chameleon arch to hide her true self. Evidence pointing to this:
– in “Listen” Clara says (to Danny): “Say something nice” – a line oft repeated by Missy herself in season 7.
– “I just want to have my friend back”… The Doctor would never accept Missy as a friend, but Ā if Missy took all her “Master”ishness out with a chameleon arch then suddenly she’s in with a chance…
– It explains why she gave Clara the Doctor’s phone number.
– and in this most recent episode… “In a way, this is why I gave her to you in the first place ā to make you see. The friend inside the enemy, the enemy inside the friend. Everyoneās a bit of both. Everyoneās a hybrid.”
…it’s pure speculation, of course, but explains a lot. If Clara were a product of either Missy or the Doctor/Missy then she’d be a Time Lord/Lady. She’d have two hearts and a Gallifreyan anatomy (including a respiratory bypass) surely the Doctor would have noticed that by now…?

Thank you! š I saw and replied… š
18 September 2015 at 05:51 #42804@purofilion
Thanks for the welcome. š
Yup, I’m saying that Missy is Clara, or at least both are the Master though only Missy “knows” that they ;re both the Master. Yes, Clara/Master deliberately chameleon arched herself (possibly after meeting Missy and working out the plan) so that she would, effectively become human, just like 10 did and like Professor Yana did (yeah, the Mater’s done this kind off thing before), and could then become the Doctors companion.
The Doctor might recognise Missy BUT Clara/Master’s regeneration into Missy hasn’t happened yet in the Doctor’s timeline so his meeting Missy in Dark Water is the first he’s encountered her. Imagine his surprise if Clara regenerates and suddenly Missy is standing before him. You could equate itĀ to River’s story. The Doctor meets River for the first time but at the same time River has seen the Doctor many, many times. It’s wibbly-wobbly.
18 September 2015 at 04:00 #42798Hey everyone,
I’m new to the site but have been a Whovian for about 36 years (give or take). Loving all the comments and thoughts and so I decided I’d post my speculation on the mystery of Clara here and see who thinks I’m insane. š
In “Death in Heaven” Missy says to the Doctor, “I need you to know we’re not so different! I need my friend back. Every battle, every war, every invasion. From now on, you decide the outcome.” The Master is desperately trying to restore that friendship the she once had with the Doctor but, I suspect, deep down she knows that the Doctor will never accept her like he did when they were at the Academy together, so what’s the best way to become friends with the Doctor again? Don’t be The Master!
What if Missy is not the regeneration after the John Simm Master but the second one after that? What if Clara is the regeneration after John Simm, the regeneration in which she chose to use a chameleon arch to hide herself so that Missy could then direct her to the Doctor to become his companion…. his friend.
When the Doctor asked Missy how she survived she simply said “You saved me”. She said nothing about escaping from Gallifrey, we just assumed that’s what she meant. So, how about this for a mind-frag… towards the end of Season 9 it is revealed that Clara is actually the Master, prior to the Missy regeneration but she ends up in a situation where she is definitely going to die. The only way the Doctor can save her is to restore her Time Lord-iness from he Chameleon Arch, thereby ensuring that Clara will regenerate. Imagine the conflict the Doctor will feel knowing that he either kills his friend or he saves her but in doing so she will become the Master again! Of course the Doctor will save her, it’s Clara, and that’s why Missy knows that he saves her, because for Missy it’s already happened.
That ties all the explanations up as to why Missy would give Clara the Doctors phone number and all the “I chose well” comments that have been dropped during season 8. It also explains the “coincidence” between Clara and Missy both using the “say something nice” line.
Ok, I’ll stop splurging for now but I’d love to hear your thoughts on this.
