@Craig, @FatManInABox, @JimTheFish and @PhaseShift – firstly, is it time to start up a Series 9 blog? So we can discuss official production-team approved spoilers where those who wish to be utterly unspoilered can avoid them?

And secondly, should @Lisa‘s #38133 be moved, because it gives away a rather important piece of information? Admittedly,…[Read more]

@Ichabod That’s a great link to Q&A with Moffat.. Loved it. It’s a bit of a shame he’s the showrunner – I’m sure he’d have loved hanging out on our wee sofa if he was still just a fan 😉 (And delighted he confirmed our suspicions that Gallifrey is out of the Timelock but the Doctor hasn’t realised it yet (Listen))

    @Lisa – Further to your books…[Read more]

  • @lisa – you are welcome, and if you’ve never seen it I would heartily recommend checking out all 3 series of The League of Gentlemen.

Just wanted to say that the discussions on here have prompted me to start re-watching Buffy, too, though I’m not keeping up the same rapid pace as you all are! (Currently part way into season 2).
    I’ve been reading…[Read more]

The show you are looking for is Psychoville, I believe, from the gloriously twisted minds of Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith.
If you liked that, you should also check out The League of Gentlemen, a previous series from the same creative minds plus Who and Sherlock’s own Mark Gatiss as well as Jeremy Dyson (who didn’t appear on screen…[Read more]

Oh @lisa there has literally never been anything better than that. There is so much goodness I can’t make up my mind which of the good is best!

@ichabod love surprisingly sweary Doctor.. Oh, hang about..

@Lisa Thanks for your list of Dr Who doppelganger characters (actors who have appeared as different characters at various times). Knew about most of them (mainly thanks to very observant/knowledgable people on these boards 🙂 ) but I’d missed the lovely Chipo Chung as Chantho/Turn Left’s fortune teller and Adjoa Andly’s double turn as Sister…[Read more]

@lisa  — Wow, Geoffrey Palmer from *way* back — everybody’s seen him with his growly old cheek-flappy face in “As Time Goes By”, right, with Judy Dench?  Others are familiar, but that one really jumped out at me.

@Nice little “jelly baby crumb”. Thank you @lisa. There were a few there I didn’t know about either. It is such a looooong wait isn’t it and we still have months to go.

    Cheers

Well at least I managed to view and post before the 2nd episode 🙂

I agree with the above comments, lots of fun, and love the 60s Avengers/Man From Uncle/James Bond vibe.

Also loving the cleaned-up look – Philip Morris may take some stick from certain quarters, not all of it undeserved, but his company have done a great restoration job on this…[Read more]

@lisa — very interesting video. Thanks for posting. I think he’s largely right about where publishing is going but as to his own stuff, he strikes me as … how does one put this diplomatically … being utterly bereft of originality. Mash-ups and fanfic are fine if you bring something to the mix but the 30-odd pages I managed to read of Pride…[Read more]

@lisa  — medieval Europe/Japan sounds like a good game-concept for an historical war game; I wonder if there is one out there?  Or something that uses elements adapted from both histories to create new battles for players?  I’m not a gamer, no idea, but seems like a natural.

And yes, you do want some of both the gardening and the engineering ap…[Read more]

@BarbaraLefty    I think they were going for aubergines!    🙂

As to what I write, I have a blog which is mostly about travel and always sadly out of date, as the balance between being the primary homemaker and chauffeur/cheerleader for a teenage son, and my own artistic endeavours is a constant challenge for me. As my son would say, the strug…[Read more]

Lol, @lisa, I think there are some beautiful wordsmiths on here. Tbh, it was insomnia and being a bit down that got me going originally. But I just got to get it down! Whether it comes to anything is a different story, as it were 😉

Thank-you @lisa We are currently celebrating the occasion by watching Image of the Fendhal. (Also not accompanied by Jelly babies.)

Poor @Lisa! Apologies if I helped start the “let’s convert Lisa to country music” thang! Good on ya for giving them a shot 🙂

  • Craig replied to the topic General Music thread 2

    Hi @Lisa

    Am here to help. 🙂

And annoy in equal measure. One of my earworms, thanks to my Dad.

@Lisa Oooh are we playing Led Zep – I also love…

I discovered the Allah-Las recently – they are derivative of seventies garage sound and the lyrics of this one are rather retrograde too, but I love that guitar sound (they’re no Led Zep, but retro-pleasant…)

  • Craig replied to the topic General Music thread 2

    Hi @Lisa

I fixed the link. You were posting a link to the playlist the track was in, not to the track itself.

Hope that helps in the future.

That’s interesting about OZ TV, and I would be interested in hearing reports from others on their national state of TV. Ours is pretty dire at the moment, with the BBC holding up a rearguard action, but the BBC has always seemed to function better with actual competition. Which looking about, we are sadly lacking.

    Have you ever s…[Read more]

Sorry @Lisa – I do love a miserable song! (Thanks for the Roy Orbison/K D Lang tho, it’s great). What’s your thing?

@Phaseshift – Otis Lee Crenshaw – genius 🙂  You’re right about some of the later punk stuff. And Joe Strummer and Johnny Cash did some great collaborations.
