That’s good news! Hoping and praying that your Dad continues along the needs-hospital-but-not-intensive-care pathway to recovery.@dentarthurdent Sorry, do you mean there isn’t a giant glowing eye in the middle of New Zealand?

Nice to see so many familiar faces on the forum again. It has been very quite here for the last few months.
@dentarthurdent I hope the “outbreak” in Auckland is under control now.
@nerys Hoping that your Dad is doing ok.
Well we have been feeling like we are living in a Covid safe bubble too but two days ago that bubble burst with our first…[Read more]

So sorry to hear about your father and I hope the Remdesvir treatment goes well.
Even if you were living close by, the hospital very likely wouldn’t let you visit. That’s the worst of it – quite a few people I know have had COVID and you just have to hope and pray each time that they’re one of the lucky ones. I hope your Dad is too.…[Read more]

@nerys Can I add my best wishes to the others?
I was going to say we’re relatively lucky (here in New Zealand) but just to remind us that nowhere is 100% safe, someone just tested positive today in Auckland City and it hasn’t been traced to a known source so everyone’s hopping. (There was a minor outbreak a couple of months ago that caused a…[Read more]

@nerys So sorry to hear about your Dad. I hope that he is lucky and pulls through this. Do take care of yourself too through this difficult time.

@nerys So sorry to hear that. We are such a tiny community on this site, and yet both you and Puro have had family touched by this…
Take care.

@nerys That is sad news and you must be very worried. We will all hope that his case stays mild and that he makes a good recovery. Still, you must be so worried about him even though we all know that worrying helps nothing. I know because I am a world class worrier that could “worry” for Canada if it was an Olympic event.
Stay strong, get…[Read more]

Today, this seems sort of appropriateOh how I love this scene!
Thank you, I don’t feel quite so daft now. X
As for Trump, I wouldn’t trust him as far as I could throw him, he still has time and power to cause havoc.

@thane16 so sorry to hear that you lost a close family member due to covid 19 and difficult not being able to see her before she passed away.
@mudlark good to hear from you. Glad that you are keeping well.

@oochillyo welcome to Forum
@blenkinsopthebrave @nerys and… humour be good 🙂
We’re all still rumbling along in Brisbane with restrictions eased, then returned, then eased…then…then… It’s like a Tardis really. Evolving, regressing, retreating, re-reading. Or re-treading.

Thank you for the wonderful wildlife descriptions. I suspect you both live in a more rural setting than we do, but there are still delights to be had, even here. A couple of days ago we rose early and walked along the waterfront at Willows Beach, when a small river otter (or a sea otter?) quickly dashed from the undergrowth into…[Read more]

@nerys You do live in a beautiful part of the country! We love to walk the shore and to sit and watch the shore birds. I once had a tern drop a little fish right in my lap. It was a small mackerel, pretty funny. I love the gannets too and I can watch them dive for hours.
We have a mom and baby river otter who swim around our creek eating fish…[Read more]

A belated Happy Canada Day to @winston, @nerys, @blenkinsopthebrave, and everyone in Canada! I hope everyone in the UK and around the world is keeping safe and sane through all the upheaval of 2020. Strange and exhausting times. And for tomorrow, wishing a happy and, most importantly, safe Fourth of July to all our American friends. Virtual hugs to all.

Happy Canada Day to all!
As you know, I am an immigrant. And a very happy immigrant. Where I live, neighbours haven’t simply hung out Canadian flags, they have hung out flags with the heart instead of the maple leaf to show support–not simply for those on the covid front line, but for all of us.
I would not want to…[Read more]

@blenkinsopthebrave @nerys and @arbutus To my fellow Canucks… Happy Canada Day. We live in a beautiful and country , I have driven it from coast to coast and no matter how long you have you can never see it all. It is vast, and yet the people make it cozy. We have oceans and lakes and mountains and prairies and frozen tundra, heck we have…[Read more]

I suspect the videos have been carefully selected – at least, in my part of London people are generally being very careful and keeping apart. However I could, if I wanted to, find a large group to film, (teenage boys, usually) all suffering from ‘it can’t happen to me’ syndrome. The Thames Path last weekend was also extremely…[Read more]

@nerys I think part of the problem is that some people think ‘It will never happen to me’. They act as though they are special, and as they are special they are immune in some way, when the sad reality is that nobody is immune from this thing.
Where I am in Scarborough, people seem to have been sensible. My Mum said she saw some suspiciously…[Read more]

Where we live there are a number of neighbours who can probably afford a cottage, and their houses seem strangely unoccupied. But at least those who remain are very responsible. They wear masks inside shops, and we all keep our distance when walking to the shops, but we still manage to say hello to each other–even if it is from…[Read more]

Hi all.
Have been in and out over the past few weeks, busy as always, though the lockdown has at least meant no meetings. It has almost felt like a holiday but have been trying to catch up on other work which I had been neglecting.
Good to hear all are well and keeping safe. Right now I am very glad to be living where I do. Despite our idiot…[Read more]
