@nerys and @winston

Things are indeed difficult at the moment, which is why we sometimes need a shot of humour. To that end (and something that will only make sense to Canadians):

Restrictions remain in place for Ontarians who can’t afford cottages

@nerys  Good to hear you are doing OK. I love your beaches because you can walk forever and hardly see a soul just beautiful shore birds. It is great that you have no Covid where you are, we don’t have as much as Toronto but our seniors have been hit hard and one home lost half of its people to this horrible virus. Maybe some of these covidiots…[Read more]

@Nerys That must be nice. Scarborough is the complete opposite during holiday times. We get a lot of tourists usually, so if we didn’t tell people not to come it would be hard to socially distance on the beach.

@nerys

They just reopened the beaches (with physical distancing rules in place, of course)

What? Really? That seems a bit risky. In Scarborough we’re telling all tourists to stay away from our beach. In fact, we’re telling them to stay away full-stop! As are Bridlington and Whitby.

@missrori  @whisht

Absolutely great advice from Whisht & others. it’s true: life aint fair. I’m real lucky that due to Crohns I have “self isolation down pat” -as my niece said when COVID blew in.

That was just after devastating fires where thousands of people & animals were displaced. Entire towns with huge histories gone overnight even though…[Read more]

@nerys Have been following the news. Nova Scotia has a degree of familiarity to me having been reared on the writing of L.M.Montgomery. Just the name alone is so evocative, it is the kind of place where such horrors should not happen.

@nerys and @blenkinsopthebrave   I have not watched the last episode yet but I love this show and so does my husband or as I like to call him “my social isolation buddy”. My son gets them for us and we actually put off watching them because we don’t want it to end. We both like all the old and Next Generation Star Treks and this show makes us h…[Read more]

@nerys  We have visited Nova Scotia and spent a lot of time in the area where this tragedy happened.It is a beautiful place filled with the nicest people we have met on our travels.People stopped in their cars to say hello as we walked down the street and the camp owners kept a pot of coffee going all the time for the campers and we laughed…[Read more]

@nerys

We have visited Nova Scotia on three occasions; the first time was about 12 years ago (I think). I recall that we arrived in Halifax the day after the hurricane had flattened large swathes of trees downtown and knocked out much of the power. I remember our B&B had no power or water(!) but we were lucky enough to get the last room in the…[Read more]

Picard. I figure anough time has passed since the final episode to be able to talk about it spoiler free (I am talking especially to @whisht and @nerys).

Well, I thought this was one of the finest recent tv shows I have seen. For me, it is up there with the first series of Sherlock, and the first Moffat series of Who. No…it is better than…[Read more]

@nerys   I am in Ontario so it was dark when I looked because I am stupid.You are only an hour ahead of us so I will look in the morning when it is light.We have been to Westport but we had the little dog with us so we couldn’t go out on a whale watch. we met many people who had been and they all saw whales! We were lucky to see some whales and s…[Read more]

@nerys

Thank you m’love, so far I am fine. One can only hope.

What about you?

Missy

Have now seen the final episode of Picard and I loved it! Will not say much in the way of detail, as many, like @whisht and @nerys are still catching up on episodes. So, no spoilers. But the episode, like the entire 10 episode story, was great; simultaneously capturing the spirit of NG while updating it to the darker mood of the present.

p.s. @whi…[Read more]

@nerys  I agree with you on Chris Ecclestons Doctor, he was really great in the role.  I also found him funny and heartbreaking at times. He and Billie seemed to fit together by the end of this episode and I wanted to see where or when they were going next. He adds a seriousness to the role that fits a man who just destroyed his planet and is a…[Read more]

Peregrine falcons nesting on the spire of Norwich Cathedral are currently observable via webcam here

@nerys   Just looked at your Sandy Point webcam but all was dark except for the lights on the water so I will look tomorrow. We love N.S. and spent a month there in 2015 on the Digby Neck and it was so beautiful!

@nerys

I think that’s one of those indefinable ‘lightning in a bottle’ things, partly down to writing but mostly to personal chemistry. I always tend to look at how Liz Sladen seemed to strike off Tom Baker far more than with Jon Pertwee (and also how Adric seemed to be less irritating with Baker than he became with Davison).

@nerys

Yes, I continue to enjoy the show, and I have recently seen episode 9. As you probably haven’t seen it yet I won’t say much about it, except that it sets up what promises to be a powerful and, I suspect, really interesting (in dramatic, moral and ethical ways) finale next week.

@missy  Hello!  I am glad you are OK and I hope you can avoid this virus. Thanks for the video, we need all the smiles we can get. Stay safe and don’t get in a pickle.

@nerys  I am trying to follow my own advice and stay safe and sane. It will be so much easier when it is warm enough to get into the garden and greenhouse. I will be starting mo…[Read more]

@nerys I don’t envy you right now. Supermarket staff are really on the receiving end of the panic and frustration of the population. Went shopping today and was a nightmare. Just the sense of tension and “me first” and the frightening degree of stupidity on display. Sad that this crisis is escalating selfishness and social division when it should…[Read more]
