@pedant What a nightmare. Makes you wonder how some people ever got a licence. How are you? Hope not hurt or shaken.

@thane16
Please do send your assignment to me, I’d love to read it. But that’s just for fun. Obviously there are others here that can really guide (@bluesqueakpip) and challenge (@pedant)But I’m enjoying learning about philosophy, and I can help you out with criteria from a boring, generic teacher viewpoint for what it’s worth. So please don’t…[Read more]

So, couple of things.
Firstly, @pedant – thanks for the hint to try using Search on the Forum (I don’t think I’ve ever done that before!!).
@juniperfish – thank Pedant for this link to that mention of Radio Times and red and blue by Phaseshift@troygorsline – [ahem] “theories more insane than what’s actually happening”.
I think bonkerising will…[Read more]

Oh, and @Mudlark – it was really difficult to tell the colour of the Doctor’s T-shirt this week, because of the lighting, but I think it was her reddish maroon one as opposed to her blue one.
That means any plotting of red for past (relative to the Doctor’s companions) and blue for future, with reference to cosmological red-shift, is out the…[Read more]

@Pedant “So Pting has proved spectacularly popular on Twitter. Watch out for the cuddly energy-sucking toy coming to a Christmas stocking near you.”
Yes, I’ve seen lots of positive comments about the Chibnall era more generally on Tumblr too. And Tumblr tended to be a space with a sizable audience which absolutely loathed Moffat’s Who (largely…[Read more]

So it’s a machine that goes PTing?
I can’t believe you went there.
What the P’Ting (and CC really needs to stop with the random apostrophe villains, if that’s indeed how you spell it) really reminded me of was the Purple Minions from Despicable Me 2.

the latter mentioned Alvin Plantinga who my teacher was not happy about: (sorry ‘Pip) “as a theist he’s morally invested in the God Problem.”
I don’t agree with what my teacher said, Pip. He is a very young guy who made it clear to us he’s atheist. Because of my Christian background I’m usually getting a lot of ‘wax’ about how dum…[Read more]

I won’t blame them since myself can’t tell one is Chinese or Korean or Japanese just by looking at the face.
Thank you for your advice.
And to your question. No,we don’t really do that. In most of our history,we don’t see others as our equal but one of three things, tributary starts, barbarians or imperialism invader…[Read more]

@pedant I’d like it if the “nudges” theme became a thing: the message that, however unremarkable we think we are, we each have tremendous power to change and shape the world. But that one bad choice, one little nudge in the wrong direction could be catastrophic.
Thinking about it, wasn’t there a convo somewhere on the Rosa thread about Thirteen’s…[Read more]

Hi everyone – apologies for not coming on earlier, but have read everything.
In fact I think that I’ve enjoyed reading on this site more than the episodes (I’ve learnt more as well!).
I think that as @pedant mentioned, this series is likely a thematic arc rather than a plot arc. Not sure we’ll see any of the monsters/bad guys again (maybe…[Read more] -

@janetteB no worries: I really wasn’t thinking of you as being that type of person -so apologies! It was actually sometimes a newbie: “did anyone notice ..?” it kinda annoys.
I read that good article @pedant
I think there are few personal attacks here. But a few rude comments which is different. I know mum handled the one about “phd who gives a…[Read more]

<p style=”text-align: left;”>I not sure I understand your meaning. Another similar phrase is 穿井得人(make a well and get a man), it origin is a story about a family made a well so it saved one man’ s workloads but after the story spread it become the family made a well and they dugs up another man.</p> -

So basically, this episode didn’t grab me. Nothing wrong with it. Maybe not my cup of tea or maybe I just spent too long pondering Brexit and the nature of God 🙂
Or maybe there’s such a lot of chat lately about whether “inclusivity” equals compromise that I’ve genuinely lost the will to live.
OR… Maybe what I’m missing is the Bonkers.

just look at this place @Craig! I’m getting a bit weepy. See how people here are explaining things, answering questions, helping others and with absolutely no remuneration to each personally but because talking helps society they talk, and explain, and if one says, “hang on?” another pops in to offer an opinion -a really well-educated thought out…[Read more]

@lionheart564 the book sounds very interesting, but I’m also interested at how you watch a television program that discusses the evils of post-slavery racism towards black people and think, so emphatically, ‘what I really want to watch is an episode full of black people being racist towards whites.’
In terms of Doctor Who, the Silerian two-parter…[Read more]

Good question! It is: Can God’s existence be established by rational argument?
We chose. I chose this: God’s existence cannot be established using, or by, rational argument. You have a toddler. Say no more!
It’s very very tricky. We cannot…[Read more]

I will argue that existence of God as a philosophical question can be only dealt with Reasoning.Faith is a personal experience and self-assurance therefore it’s isn’t universal, so it cannot be used as argument . A Christian’s faith is meaningless to a atheist who never had any religion beliefs. God as concept isn’t trademarked…[Read more]

Again, a blase piece that dwells on the text of the GFA but has zero understanding of how that actually affects people on the ground on both sides of a hard border. It’s more useful, I think, to heed the warnings of former NI secretaries on both sides of the political equation, contemporary PMs who actually had to deal with the (boak)…[Read more]
