@jimthefish Shipping – derived from relationship. Some fans – <legpull mode on>like @juniperfish think whether Character A gets it on with Character B is the only thing that matters and won’t stop boring on about it because apparently in a show about empowered women the one thing the women need is a good bad man<legpull mode off>. And Breath! Sometimes show runners pay them too much heed (the one black mark on the history of Veronica Mars)
So, anyway. Zygons. A multiplicity of Doctors, or a multiplicity of Clara’s?
As for Eccelstone, where zygon?
2 April 2013 at 19:04 #4047Random thought: can anyone put Richard E Grant as GI in BoSJ alongside the bizarro-pic-in-the-hall in The Lodger?
2 April 2013 at 18:42 #4041No! Shipping is evil. It it a cancer on fandom. Need I say anything more that Spuffy? The only one who got where their pre-soul relationship had to go was Marti Noxon – and she was frequently abused and booed by the one’s who thought Spikey-wikey and the Buffster could wiv happiwy eber aftah so there! When they turn up, any attempt at sensible discussion is over. (SMGfans banned ALL shipping discussion)
No problem with slash – that’s just funny – but every shipper should be forced to watch Moonlighting from beginning to end. Not only would they get an ace show, but they would understand what happens when you let the sexual chemistry be acted upon (even if Willis and Shepherd hated each other in reality). If there is a group in fandom that fails to grasp the expression “be careful what you wish for”, it’s shippers.
Moffat yanks their collective chain; RTD skirted with pandering but stayed just the right side decent.
And anyway: ZYGONS.
Oooooh. What a good vent!
2 April 2013 at 16:03 #4023@Juniperfish ?In the brief period when I could be arsed with TWoP’s self-indulgent drivel, by login was ShippingIsEvil.
Anyway. ZYGONS!
31 March 2013 at 12:21 #3799fake cancellation theory again? Does that mean at some point we, as fans, will have to save Clara as she faces extinction?
I did have some fun back-and-forth (with @Juiperfish iirc) some time ago about about the Peter Pan comparison…
31 March 2013 at 12:19 #3795HaveYouFedTheFish I tend to agree that it is mainly just continuity porn to keep the fans in ecstasy.
(Pity the gruaniad seems to have been taken over by amateur feminists with a low attention span.)
30 March 2013 at 19:19 #3703I thought it a nice breezy, if lightweight, intro for Clara that established her as impressed, but not over-awed. I presume she is still a computer genius, post upload.
(Clever that the “She’s very pretty” was about Clara – misdirection ftw. I suspect we can expect more)
29 March 2013 at 17:10 #3665Rule 1: Moff lies.
14 March 2013 at 23:12 #3191Happy to do a post, but it was more puzzlement – the Veronica Mars tit bit (apparently the fastest Kickstarter to $1,000,000 and $2,000,000 ever, btw) wasn’t really a review/ recommendation but an unusual item of interest to genre fans (think Nancy Drew, as imagined by Raymond Chandler (Line from opening narration: “Want to know how I lost my virginity? So do it…” – as dark as prime time US TV allows, essentially) )- but if it’s not new thread-worthy, that’s fine.
I had vaguely heard about it, then a totallylegimatedownload popped up. I grabbed, started watching with a view to seeing 2 or 3 eps. 10 eps later it was 3am….
I suspect it is not available on Region 2 DVDs, but might be wrong. If anyone finds it, grab it. You won’t be disappointed. Pretty well every writer you like – Whedon, Goddard, Espenson from over there, RTD and Moff both, have name-checked it.
14 March 2013 at 00:47 #3177Those of you with exquisite taste (ie all of you) may find this interesting. The promo is awesome:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/559914737/the-veronica-mars-movie-project
Kristen Bell may be my choice as first female Doctor. She rocks, even is she did get pregnant by someone who is not me.
(BTW, If you haven’t seen House of Lies check it out)
How the hell do you make a new thread here?
10 February 2013 at 14:40 #2597BTW, I think that (much like his approach to Sherlock) Moff will freely reference and homage Classic Who, but will not feel in any way bound by it. He is as likely to be inspired by the JJ Abraham’s Star Trek reboot (original and new Spock and all) as by The Abominable Snowmen.
10 February 2013 at 14:37 #2595I have the same issue for Bobbingbird and IAmNotAFishIAmAFreeMan.
Pfft. Not a problem, a challenge!
30 January 2013 at 19:34 #2157Bugger David Warner(1) – Jessica Raine as Verity Lambert.
*faints*
(Tennant has done fine – no shortage of RSC work, and a couple of excellent TV dramas)
(1) I know. He’s excellent.
24 January 2013 at 23:29 #1877Up for a challenge??
Inspired by this : http://xkcd.com/1133/
Have a crack at describing your preferred Dr Who villain/ Companion/plot line/ artefact using the same rules
23 January 2013 at 17:37 #18418 eps, apaz.
23 January 2013 at 11:07 #183930th March for new episodes…
9 January 2013 at 01:10 #987Tom Baker is confirmed as The Master in the 50th Anniversary Special”.
Awesome! 😀
9 January 2013 at 01:07 #985Yeah, I know – low blow (Kind lost faith in FF a while back – should try it again now – Safari has too many quirks and Chrome to much Google).
I note that blenkinsop also has a stray end letter!
9 January 2013 at 01:03 #983I have confidence that Moff won’t unzip his flies and piddle all over the show’s history. I expect an entirely contemporary story (as in original, not a continuation of a Classic Arc – expect maybe Susan), with many a fanwanky nod for fanbase and a few bones for the most ardent fanboys. Oh, and a whole shoal of red herrings.
But if they get there and I find myself simply thinking “Whoa, that was cool” I will be content.
(I write, of course, as one who doesn’t care how the McGuffin Machine works, as long as it does).
@juny – the last time there was loads of Tardis interior, it ended up looking a lot like a disused factory in Shepherd’s Bush.
9 January 2013 at 00:56 #977I protest! My name fitted perfectly in my Browser (with “man” on a line by itself)! You’re one of those weirdos who uses IE, aren’t you 😉
Thanks for the kind response – much appreciated.
8 January 2013 at 01:09 #695I think the is one of the best – and certainly most age appropriate, for the general target demographic – studies of depression ever put on TV. Sensitive, compassionate but not chickening out.
The blind and invisible monster…
A piece that uses it for reference
And an earlier piece specifically about the episode
8 January 2013 at 00:56 #691also mentioned the way Clara fell on The Doctor – a striking reminder of River.
I think that was to emphasise the difference – the reaction was the key, not the event.
1 January 2013 at 03:11 #129Riffing freely on @blenkinsopthbrav
CAL – Charlotte Abigail Lux – Cal = the bringer of light. Creator of worlds. One the first day….
River/ Pond – the Elixir of life – water. The Second day…
So we need dry ground (Earth), the Sun and the stars, sea creatures and birds, animals and Man.
And on the Seventh Day he rested. Or regenerated, as the case may be. Or did some begating.
31 December 2012 at 19:53 #105Top work Dude. I felt the need to an ID shift. Formerly a hammer of the pedantic variety.
