@dentarthurdent Bond being dead. I’m trying to remember if, at the end of No Time to Die, if Bond was definitively and permanently blown up. Or did he survive by a miracle – I suppose that wouldn’t technically be a retcon. I do rather hope they don’t do a ‘young Bond growing up’ though, that sounds rather too – Disney.

My take on it is that Bo…[Read more]

@blenkinsopthebrave ‘Planet of the Incels’ – I like that, though there was only one Incel in evidence and he was running the show.
I agree with your comment on the tone of the episode. The storyline was pretty heavy in places but somehow the deaths didn’t really register with full weight.

@ps1l0v3y0u @whohar Re the Landwasser Viaduct, it is quite famous and very distinctive – a high stone viaduct on a sharp curve into a tunnel in a sheer cliff. I did check Google Images (plenty of pics of it) to confirm that it was the exact same viaduct. I don’t think I can claim ubergeek status on that, just medium geekery 🙂

While I’m at it, I…[Read more]

Yes River, you are 100% right and I am in error. So definitely 11 and perhaps 12. The 9 thing is interesting though – I don’t recall that line, was it broadcast? If so, it seems to suggest 9 has the hots for Jack, although I just think it’s banter rather than anything serious.

I love things like this. I learned something new from your post and it made me smile as comments often do when I realise the passion and knowledge of a poster.

@whohar    Well, I used Handbrake to just rip each file in sequence.   So then I had files 1 to 9 on my drive, which i set out to assign names to (and, as you suggested, numbers), for which I consulted tardis.fandom.com, which told me there was a special (Joy to the world) before the season started.   I viewed the first file on my drive, it was Ro…[Read more]

I see @craig‘s point, that it seemed a bit undeveloped. I’m reluctant to call it his ‘worst’ Christmas ep, I’d just say ‘least good’, and that only because his other Christmas eps were all very good (in my recollection). Except The Doctor, The Widow and the Wardrobe. So, second least good 🙂

@winston Yes, I liked the way Anita calmly took…[Read more]

@ps1l0v3y0u    The Blurays?   Thanks for the good wishes.   I couldn’t get VLC to recognise the disc, but Handbrake did.   So I ripped them all to my hard drive and now I can view them in VLC.   Expect a spurt of posts from me shortly   🙂

Each file just got numbered 1,2,3 etc so I consulted the episode guide and found there was a special, Joy…[Read more]

@ps1l0v3y0u Love & Monsters? While I have a sneaking perverse fondness for it – because the little Who club are kind of sweet – I couldn’t rate it among RTD’s best. The Dalek/Cybermen face-off in Doomsday – I love it. “This is not war. This is pest control.”

@ps1l0v3y0u and @Whohar the S/o watched series one and liked it. It is in my, “to watch” queue which is rather long. I did not know that it was based upon a book series but then, most good shows are. (as well as many not so good ones)

We are currently watching season 2 of Andor. It has taken us a couple of episodes to pick up the threads again.…[Read more]

Anyone seen Silo?

I saw the first season and enjoyed it. I’ve not seen the second in full (yet) but found the early eps a bit repetitive.

My understanding is that there will be four seasons in total based on three books by Hugh Howey – Wool, Shift and Dust   – with the first two seasons basically covering Wool only. This probably e…[Read more]

@whohar I love the HBO rumor! I have HBO because it’s linked with Crave in Canada, thus removing the Disney+ dilemma from my options.

@ps1l0v3y0u My take on the hostess’ sacrifice in “Midnight” is that her flight safety training was kicking in. Even though she seemed just as paranoid and accusatory as the passengers, my sense was that she finally…[Read more]

@nerys I agree with your observations on Midnight. Possibly the best episode RTD wrote, or at least up there with his best.

@ps1l0v3y0u I’d agree that Season 4 was generally pretty good. I wouldn’t rate it the best season, I reckon 6 or 7 would beat it, but not by a lot, and most seasons have a range of quality. How does one rate seasons anyway,…[Read more]

Specifically, at some point in 2021 say, The BBC contact Russ and say ‘we need help. That show you really like is heading for the bin. This is our wish list. What can you do?’

Not sure how that negotiation played out but, at a guess, Gatiss, Whithouse and Matthieson were all considered too adult.

Nonetheless, having had 5-10 yea…

The BBC is a waste of money! Doctor Who fans should complain about as many programmes they produce as possible! Doctor Who pays for itself with all its merchandise. The BBC continued to receive this money during the 1990-2004 gap years. There’s no problem financing Doctor Who at all! A lot of the money from Disney+ w…[Read more]

I am assuming Ben meant ten years ago in his own past, so the 1950s. I could not place it, but here is a likely list:

I was also wondering why any Hollywood movie clip would be hanging around in the BBC vault.

@ps1l0v3y0u With respect, could you sometimes be a little more specific in your references to past episodes? Sometimes I’m not on the same wavelength and have trouble placing your references. For example, Russ’ Legend and Empire – I first thought of Legend of the Sea Devils, had to refer to the episode list to realise it was Legend of Ruby Sunday…[Read more]

@thane16 Moff *is* clever, in fact I think he’s a genius at writing dialogue that is witty, ironic and surprising. (I’m a sucker for interesting, original turns of phrase, whether in book fiction or in TV drama). I think Moff’s era was the best of Who. RTD’s first era was very good too (I don’t know enough about his current one to judge it).

As a bit of a palette cleanser, I’ve just been watching a few eps from Smith’s first season (aka Series 5):

The Eleventh Hour (still the best regen story imo)

Pandorica / Big Bang

Plus a couple of other eps: the Angels two-parter, and Vincent.

It’s like watching a different (and much better)…[Read more]
