I wonder how many other fans watch the Friday repeat with the subtitles on? Usually there are words missed or uncertain without them (not because the music’s too loud, but because the acting is ‘natural’).
For instance Carlisle was Carlisle not Carlyle as some might have wondered. Doesn’t diminish the reference though. Also it’s worth taking the subtitles with a pinch of salt (they are official but often incorrect). I noted at least one or 2 mistakes and a couple of deviations from what was heard this week.
Still can’t get over the emphasis of syllables in ‘kenDALL-mintCAKE’ or the pronounciation of ‘You wanted a word’, in an otherwise brilliant episode. I’m still being grown up & not crying about the death of the Bee in Metabilis…
27 April 2013 at 13:21 #6857@janetteb – King Oswald became a saint after his death. Saints can perform MIRACLES…
@juniperfish – Oswald JFK conspiracy usually= 2 gunmen. Is there a 2nd ‘Gunman’ in series 7 we don’t know about?
Do the fields of Trenzalor contain a grassy knoll?
27 April 2013 at 13:12 #6855I remember being disappointed when Colin Morgan wasn’t ginger in ‘Merlin’.
@blenkinsopthebrave – could the new novel ‘Shroud of Sorrow’ tie into the 50th Anniversary show? (It’s set in the 23rd of November 1963).
27 April 2013 at 12:30 #6847The Dr will become Merlin only it hasn’t happened yet. It probably will when (or after) the Dr becomes ginger & wears an Afghan coat (see the novelisation of ‘Battlefield’).
27 April 2013 at 12:27 #6846The Dr’s new brown & purple shoes contain a variant of ‘The Seal of Rassilon’ in the brogue ‘hole punching’.
Not-a-lot-of-people-know-that.
The seal has been sort of abandoned in the new series up til now, probably because it’s really of Celtic origins. Also (confusingly) it appeared on Voga in ‘Revenge of the Cybermen’ before it’s ‘current meaning’ debuting in ‘The Deadly Assassin’.

27 April 2013 at 12:16 #6843@janetteb – I thought exactly that! (Plus every other Who forum out there – Moffat-monitored?!?)
27 April 2013 at 12:01 #6838Spoilers####################### The same as above but worded differently (from Digital Spy).
The showrunner also promised that ‘The Name of the Doctor’ will “change the course of Who forever”.”It’s full of surprises and questions that have never been answered in the history of Who, including the Doctor’s greatest secret,” Moffat claimed.”We’ll also find out what makes his new companion [Clara, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman] so impossible and there’s a surprise that no-one has got right so far.”
24 April 2013 at 00:05 #6541So it’s just ‘The Time War’ now, not ‘The Last Great…’ Probably just means there’ll be another one then…
23 April 2013 at 23:34 #6540Only ‘the only survivor’ could have written that book, surely?
I don’t think it’s technically a spoiler now but that picture is A-Grade Who-Fan Catnip.
23 April 2013 at 22:56 #6532@ardaraith – In a good way I hope!
23 April 2013 at 22:50 #6527@jimthefish – I wonder if the author used a pseudonym?
23 April 2013 at 22:22 #651823 April 2013 at 18:20 #646923 April 2013 at 18:10 #6467@jimthefish – Yes, it’s a VERY interesting book. The official site are literally spoiling us.
23 April 2013 at 17:27 #6465If you go down to the woods today…
23 April 2013 at 17:23 #6464Spoilers?**********************************************
We in the UK get no ad again it seems. Here’s the American one, though. Also check out the official Who site for sneaky peeks at ‘Journey…’
21 April 2013 at 21:44 #6321I forgot to say that in ‘Battlefield’, Excalibur is the starter key to an inter-dimensional spaceship.
21 April 2013 at 21:01 #6315As I said before, Caliburn House. Caliburn is a ‘more authentic’ name for Excalibur. Arthur’s sword has had a long-ish Dr Who history.
http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Excalibur
In ‘Battlefield’ the Dr mentions that ‘the scabbard is worth 10 of the sword’.
In myth the scabbard can stop a person dying.
Excalibur itself was broken but miraculously fixed. If someone wields it they it they cannot tell a lie. It cannot be used for an evil act or it will break. It can heal wounds, and it inspires courage in all people that surround the owner. =D
21 April 2013 at 17:19 #6294As the ‘3rd Dr Type Tale’ ,this featured the Doctor (posing?) as a Baker Street Irregular, which points to him working for Britain’s Special Operations Executive . Jon Pertwee had been a ‘Secret Agent’ in real life too.
As well as ‘Nightmare Man’ & ‘Sapphire & Steel’, this ep had a bit of a ‘Children of the Stones’ flavour too.
21 April 2013 at 16:27 #6291Nice that you’ve returned from the Bubble Universe. We kept you a place on the sofa with a card marked ‘reserved’ in Gallifreyan.
21 April 2013 at 00:50 #6229Yes, & that’s obviously the new ‘Eye of Harmony Mini’ (Somewhere between a mobile one & the full size one).
I wonder what apps it’s got…
21 April 2013 at 00:19 #6224@PhaseShift – Great. I wonder if Lindalee will have found ‘Hide’ too scary, as it was verging on it with ‘Cold War’
🙂
20 April 2013 at 23:44 #6219Ha! ‘Jumping into the TARDIS’ is the new ‘finger-clicking the door open’…
Also the crane lifting the TARDIS next week seems to be a nod to ‘Robots of Death’, as JTTCOTT will be the ‘4th Dr style story’.
20 April 2013 at 21:12 #6187Interesting diagrammatic explanation of time (Who related) just posted.

20 April 2013 at 20:25 #6179@juniperfish – It’s Caliburn House as in Excalibur. Dark Doppelganger mirror/shard all strong strong strong, though.
20 April 2013 at 19:13 #6165Is the Dr really a member of the Baker Street Irregulars?
20 April 2013 at 18:38 #6153Couldn’t stop smiling watching this one – funny to think it was the 1st one they filmed.
20 April 2013 at 14:02 #6139Thanks @phaseshift
The funniest Lindalee review yet! ‘Then he shoots him right in the…. laser.’
‘What is Duran Duran?’
20 April 2013 at 03:10 #6121Bugger. It WAS Terence Trent D’arby – the Bruno Mars of 1987… Well I was 13…..
20 April 2013 at 02:58 #6120Okay… researching my memory = I think this was the 1st music I bought! Or it could have been Terence Trent D’arby… Could’ve been worse!
20 April 2013 at 00:06 #6118The 7B trailer music, also used on the iplayer ad & one of The Voice ads…
19 April 2013 at 23:54 #6116@phaseshift – Ta, got Ed’s Purple Electric Violin Concerto album back in 92 (when I was 18). Enjoyed all the busking on youtube too. I think I saw him on daytime tv once when he had a covers lp out…
19 April 2013 at 16:25 #6075His name will be revealed….. to River.
19 April 2013 at 16:11 #6074http://merchandise.thedoctorwhosite.co.uk/doctor-who-canvas-print-clara-painting/
In this we can properly see: Footprints in the snow (maybe I just need a bigger telly?)
18 April 2013 at 19:53 #6042http://blogtorwho.blogspot.co.uk/
New ‘Movie style’ posters available from today. Also, go to the official Who site for 2 clips from Hide. Doesn’t look like we’re getting a tv ad this week though…
15 April 2013 at 22:03 #5711Nice LMVOB vid – Many people don’t like Kate’s ‘Director’s Cut’ LP because they don’t feature.
Have a Delia Derbyshire return lob…
15 April 2013 at 18:32 #567114 April 2013 at 20:09 #5587@haveyoufedthefish – Cheers for the Clara-fication! (Dreadful pun intended).
14 April 2013 at 19:40 #5579Who Susan really is is as much of a mystery as the identities of The Dr & Clara.
I think if Clara twists her ankle, the internet will explode!
Also, as theories abound about Dr becoming dark (Valeyard, etc.) there is also the possibility that Dr was Dark (the Other). Although the 2nd is not canon, Nu-Who often borrows from other media (eg. We’ve seen female Ice-Martians in comics before).
14 April 2013 at 16:33 #5531@phaseshift I’m an old fan of Ed Alleyne Johnson, so was pleased to see you post him.
If anyone missed it, my serious choice was Kate Bush ‘The Dreaming’ from German TV, but mainly because of the giant lizards (a la Colony in Space) and the Cybermen costumes.
The 1st record I bought was the Genesis of the Daleks vinyl LP (still got it). It probably took another 10 years before I started to get into music. God knows what the 1st single I bought was (probably embarrassing though).
(As a ping-pong return) I think this is still my favourite who remix…
14 April 2013 at 13:55 #5521Are trolls afraid of the no. 13( it’s a magical no.)? A dearth of them on the Nesting Consciousness yesterday, with (nearly) one & all proclaiming it the best episode for yonks. But today the ‘Who lovers who hate’ are back with a vengeance, all but monopolising the site, informing us that it was ‘the worst one ever’, explained with vast tracts of reasoning. You have been warned…
14 April 2013 at 01:30 #5453Professor Grisenko seems to translate as Professor Grayson…
Also I was wrong – we DO hear & see the sonic weapon fired (about 3& a half mins in) – it doesn’t sound like the future one but the visual effect is similar (not done with mirrorlon though).

14 April 2013 at 00:52 #5449Sing a song to keep your spirits up:
it works if it’s Pinocchio singing ‘Always Let Your Conscience Be Your Guide’
Pinocchio was of course someone not really real who wanted to be properly human…..(he can become a real boy if he proves himself brave, truthful, and unselfish’)….. The main song from the Film is ‘When you wish upon a star’……Song technology seems important this series…
13 April 2013 at 22:27 #5427I wonder if Skaldak’s 3000BC sonic disruptor (when used) looks & sounds like the ones in the future do?
Also, will the other Ice Warriors all tease him until he gets up to scratch with an Ice Lord set of armour complete with sparkly cape?
Never have I felt such empathy for a character who dismembers people…
13 April 2013 at 19:53 #5379I just wish they hadn’t revealed the Ice Warrior’s face at the end. The semi-reveal was far more satisfying.
13 April 2013 at 18:39 #5369I thought I was still watching Dr Who, but it turns out that that’s not Mavic Chen, Guardian of the Solar System covered in Ovaltine, it’s actually Tom Jones…
