Again, a blase piece that dwells on the text of the GFA but has zero understanding of how that actually affects people on the ground on both sides of a hard border. It’s more useful, I think, to heed the warnings of former NI secretaries on both sides of the political equation, contemporary PMs who actually had to deal with the (boak)…[Read more]

@bluesqueakpip Definitely comedy horror. I adore spiders so was basically going “stupid humans don’t go in there” the whole time and howling with Halloween laughter.
Lovely that the Doctor is rooting for the spiders.
And He Who Shall Not Be Named was the truly scary thing… noo no nooo noooo nope train to nopeville we’re gonna elect someone…[Read more]

Except that we won’t be able to gather our crops, because the southern and east European labourers who do it won’t be here.
And every other country will still be part of the trade agreements that we have just ejected ourselves from.
“Self-sufficient” does not mean what you think it means.

@Bluesqueakpip – and others
No doubt I will regret diving into this debate, and there is a small and not at all admirable part of me which whispers, ‘Why not just sit back and let things fall as they may? I probably won’t be around long enough to reap the worst of the whirlwind.’
Few, even among the most fervid of remainers, would argue that…[Read more]

Thanks @lisa for your comments. No big response from me just now. I’m mulljng it all over though.
@craig Basically everything you said I agree with. (Except Scottish Independence. If that happens I’ll never see anything but a Tory majority again in my lifetime. Please think it through!) But it’s really refreshing and kind of nice to get an…[Read more]

I might get myself in trouble now. As I’m having a quiet day I thought I would join in with my thoughts on Brexit – I will try to keep it brief (so possibly I might seem facile, but hopefully not).
I am in an interesting position as I think the people of Scotland would be better off…[Read more]

What @bluesqueakpip said plus 2 things. It seems the leavers have big issues with the EU
high court and its re-interpreting of UK laws. They feel this means they are ‘subject’ to the EU.
Also, There seems to be this philosophical difference about where your freedoms come from.
Are you born free? In the UK you are and that’s wh…[Read more]

I’m sorry – why do you think I am interested in defending the Remain Campaign?
You made a statement that was incorrect.
I corrected it, with example.
And to correct your next incorrect statement:
The UK government wanted stronger regulation, the EU watered it down slightly.
No. the UK member government made a proposal. All the me…[Read more]

In the case of expansion, the UK was driving it. We were never, in any way, a passive actor “choosing not to agree” and going with the flow.
Fun fact: Leavers were outraged by draconian EU regulations to limit the power of household appliances for carbon emission purposes.

I have learned so much about Brexit and Leave (and Remain) since coming to this Forum for myself. I never was much into politics but I am glad I am becoming more interested by the day. As @bluesqueakpip suggested Politics and Brexit is very difficult -as an argument -to take and there is angst because of it (thank you…[Read more]

@bluesqueakpip – There’s a long-standing joke in acting circles that it’s always the actors who are genuinely from the area who are told how terrible their accents are.

Yes, those shadow puppets! I’d love to know if that was in the script, or was something the actor came up with.
I was thinking exactly the same. I think I’m going with inspired improv until proven otherwise.

@rob I agree with @bluesqueakpip that this is character development rather than a gender shift. I have always been a little concerned that certain changes to the character coming with the change of sex could seem to Say Things about differences between the sexes which I don’t personally think are true. And it’s hard to watch TV without a certain…[Read more]

@Bluesqueakpip I am now completely sold on the Whittaker Doctor.
Yes, me too, I love her.
And you’re right there were some decent comedy-horror moments.
The bit that made me laugh was all the spiders legging it double-quick towards the Stormzy track Ryan was blasting out. How did he know they were going to love Grime?!
I really wanted Jack…[Read more]

Definitely about the CGi. Someone had done some actual motion analysis AND grasped that big chitin-based lifeforms are not viable.
Also, Ryan’s shadow puppets int he background. Absolutely LOLled at that.

@bluesqueakpip Ha ha. I woke up to that in my Twitter feed this morning and was going to post it. Very funny, and actually quite good (although I know nothing about dancing). The theme was well done.

Still reading through all the great commentary…. whoo!
He’s no big warrior leader; he has to cheat to even have a chance of passing his people’s test. He’s not even a great warrior who fights other warriors – more a serial killer of worried brothers, random drunks and kindly grandfathers. A murderous, cheating bully.

Yes, I felt that as Krasko had admitted, with great amusement to killing 2000 people, and referred to African Americans as “mongrels,” I felt there was no real need to ‘explore’ this particular gentleman’s character further.
Within the dialogue we had all we needed. He lacked remorse; he wanted only…[Read more]
