I guess anything’s possible. However, if they are trying to encourage new viewers to the show, I doubt they’d introduce a character from a spin-off that even diehard Who fans didn’t really watch. It was a big enough leap introducing the Rani I think.

OK. It wasn’t perfect. Very few Who eps are. But it worked and looked great. Personally, I’d prefer references to higher brow sci-fi than Ref Dwarf, but the use of tropes that aren’t subject to fridge logic is quite clever. Personally, I don’t really care if the Tardis is the derelict council building from Invasion of Time, or the Doctor speaks like a Monty Python pepperpot, so long as the story makes sense and they left The Fam at home.
