Who has, of more recent years anyway, been very reluctant to kill anyone (significant) off, most egregiously with Clara, but also Donna and to some extent, the Ponds.

As soon as we saw Kate L-S dustify followed quickly by the rest of the Unit team, I immediately thought “RTD is going to pull a Last of the Time Lords…[Read more]

@nerys Resuming the James Bond theme, I just watched Skyfall and Spectre. Skyfall was quite good (I gather it’s highly regarded amongst the Bond genre), though I do have to question his wisdom in taking M to a deserted house in the highlands without stocking up from Q’s gadget collection first. And I thought the new Moneypenny (Naomie…[Read more]

THE HAND… reference to Last of The Time Lords… the means via which John Simm resurrected himself. I hope RTD doesn’t revisit that… it was in the worst possible taste, if not quite as bad as Anthony Ainley’s most extreme scenery chewing.

You will notice there is no wheelchair evident in the preceding shots…

When I was growing up in the 70s I listened to the Carpenters and I think Karen had a beautiful mellow voice and could sing anything and everything. They were not popular with my Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Alice Cooper loving friends because they were far too cool for “silly love songs” but they didn’t know…[Read more]

To say the 70’s was the decade that taste forgot is ridiculous. But, musically, there was dross of the direst ilk. Was there more dross inflicted in the eighties? Could be. Did the sixties struggle against tinpan ally and an audience of old gits whose only desire was to shove Englebert Humperdink where The Beatles a…[Read more]

I agree with @nerys, the Carpenters are one of the best music groups, but everyone doesn’t need to like what others like. We all have our own opinions. Except, maybe, Reddit users.

The new Tardis looks great but I wouldn’t want to clean it! 😉

I could happily live in the Tardis library without the scary burnt guys of course.

Stay safe

@nerys Yes, the Doctor’s companion looks okay from the teaser. Can’t really tell until we see her in an episode. However, RTD is quite good a writing companions, so hopefully she’ll be good. I’m only up the The Power of the Doctor on DVD’s, I should see if my public library has later ones.

I particularly like Bill Pott’s comment: ‘it’s a kitchen!’ shortly after she observed ‘you’ve had a knock-through!’

The kitchen was a reoccurring Moffat joke… remember Clara cooking the turkey? Also referenced by RTD with the coffee incident.

I also liked the actual library from Journey to the Heart of…[Read more]

@nerys  @dentarthurdent  I will have to wait until the new series comes to the library unless my lovely Whovian children get the DVDs for me. I watched the 3 specials but not the Xmas episode so I haven’t met Ruby Sunday yet but the actress was great on Coronation Street.

The Tardis looks very futuristic and huge! I don’t know if I like it or n…[Read more]

@nerys @winston Well the Tardis interior certainly looks a lot better than 13’s era. Not as good as Twelve’s by a long shot (IMO!) but orders of magnitude better than the Crystal Grotto of Doom that 13 inhabited.

@nerys I agree with you about the trailer,it does look exciting. New enemies for a new Doctor. The new Doctor looks like he can do a lot of running down corridors! He will need all that energy from the looks of the trailer. I am very excited about the new series.

Hmmm. There’s a subscription world brewing out there. If the product didn’t look like cookie-cutter story-boarded committee stodge, I’d be be upset.

The trailer looks great; the Jurassic butterfly one had me wrinkling my nose a bit, but Ray Bradbury wasn’t it? That helps. How about an E E Doc Smith themed season?

Otherwise, yes! Why let…[Read more]

@nerys I actually like it better than Casino Royale. Possibly because I’m not a card player so the casino sequences in that didn’t really engage me. Possibly because Bond’s nice new Aston Martin didn’t do anything much except run off the road and roll. The opera sequence was good, by the way – loved the ingenious way Bond got the various…[Read more]

@nerys I just watched Quantum of Solace and wow! It’s bloody good! The action sequences were a bit disjointed but the character drama was top-notch. As you found, it gets better on subsequent viewings, particularly with the events of Casino Royale fresh in mind. It had some intriguing nuances – the ‘Bond girl’ hanging around the villain,…[Read more]

Well… is it genetic heritage that makes you a Timelord? Or in vitro exposure to the Time Vortex? As per River, immediately following the Roman kissogram party in volving two humans (presumably in the room with bunk beds)?

Surely, the Mondassians specialise in human conversion because, as Dalek Sec pointed out, we get e…[Read more]

@ps1l0v3y0u @nerys Interesting point about the High Council lady. Is it possible that Bill is an orphaned Time Lady? And the Doctor ‘stole the President’s wife’. Is the Moff hinting that Bill might be the Doctor’s (other) daughter? (But if so, shouldn’t she have regenerative powers? Maybe not, if they were a technological feature…[Read more]
