@nerys I love the smell of laundry that is dried on the line. I actually put out some blankets today and although a bit cold there was a good breeze and they dried nicely. Getting into bed made with fresh sheets and blankets off the line is one of life’s great comforts.

We usually make enough syrup to last us a year and to give some to my k…[Read more]

thank you for the feedback @mudlark. I have read complaints about the three day nature of the digs before. It is always good to know more background and to have an expert view though I will continue to watch and enjoy Time Team. It is a kind of “guilty pleasure”. It transports me to the U.K so is a cheap and instant travel fix and it has made me…[Read more]

@nerys We could watch TV together and never argue over what to watch. I like Time Team , Wild Archaeology and Digging for Britain. I know Time Team had problems but I can’t help watching all the programs. Digging for Britain does go to well established digs all over Britain. I also wish that Wild had stayed on longer as it was very interesting t…[Read more]

@nerys Hi. Hopefully things will be fine now and as a positive, the “complaints” have spurred us to start long overdue work on fixing the website and we are now getting our podcasts onto Spotify which will make them far more accessible and hopefully increase our listener base.

@thane16 Lovely to hear from you and glad that you are on a hill. The…[Read more]

@nerys @syzygy @winston On a first watch through, of course, we don’t know which of them remembers – it’s obvious one or the other of them doesn’t, possibly both – until the reveal of the memory wipe. (This is why one should always watch a Moff episode twice – the second time, with foreknowledge, every word or expression takes on a diff…[Read more]

@nerys yes, good to see you! We’re all pretty much experiencing major or minor flooding in Brisbane at the mo. I always complain when we don’t have rain but then moan after 3 days -but it’s been more than a week of solid rain but I’m lucky -we’re on a hill.

I think it was made abundantly clear the doctor couldn’t recog Clara. the symmetry co…[Read more]

@blenkinsopthebrave @janetteb The only thing I have ever bought myself is a VHS tape of The 1st Doctors 1st episode that I found in a charity shop for a quarter a few years ago. Yet I had to find and refinish a cupboard (Tardis blue!) to hold an ever growing collection of mugs. cookie jar, scarves, books, slippers, cute little Doctor dolls and o…[Read more]

@nerys glad that you are ok. Seeing pics of the latest storm on the news. You really seem to be experiencing a very tough winter this year.

@blenkinsopthebrave A Tardis backpack!! That is perfect as a suvival bag but I hope you never have to use it.

@dentarthurdent Indeed Stockholm in terms of weather could not have been more “different” to SA.…[Read more]

@nerys No, I didn’t visualise wheels on the roof rake! 🙂 But I did wonder about the snow scoop. I guess, if it’s sliding on snow, it wouldn’t need wheels. If you were trying to clear the last of the snow off your driveway, then I guess wheels might be of some use. But my experience with snow is virtually nil, our nearest snow (in win…[Read more]

@nerys That roof rake is an interesting solution. (Not that snow removal is a problem here. Still, I sometimes have to go up on the roof to clear the gutters. Our house is on sloping ground, so single storey at one end, two storey at the other (which is where I get veeeerry cautious).

The snow scoop, I imagine, is a sort of mini snow plo…[Read more]

@nerys Thank you ,I agree that having her healthy is the best Xmas present I could get! She is returning to online school for now but at this point she wants to go back to school. It was fun at first ,not so much now. Children everywhere are suffering through no fault of their own, they must feel so powerless. It makes me sad.

@nerys that last line – that is precisely the problem I encounter when proofing my work.

@devilishrobby my main problem with spell checkers is that at one point I kept accidentally clicking ‘add word’. Which didn’t even have the effect of eliminating the squiggly lines, because I rarely misspell a word the same way twice.

Although we m…[Read more]

@nerys this conversation has made me ROLF . Your spelling is perfect compared to mine I’m always misspelling words even with automatic spell checking and autocorrect (though auto correct is a whole other problem), I also have a habit of hitting send or enter before triple checking what has actually gone down on the screen which has led me to ra…[Read more]

@nerys @miapatrick And of course if I’d refreshed this page before I posted I would have seen that Miapatrick had already explained it. D’oh.

By the way, proofreading – I had a massive dose of it when I contributed a book to Project Gutenberg Australia. Which is to say, scanned each page, ran it through an OCR program (which typical…[Read more]

@nerys I, err, think Miapatrick meant that Amy and Eleven’s relationship was ‘platonic’.

‘plutonic’ refers to volcanic phenomena occurring at a great depth, or, alternatively, Pluto a.k.a. Hades, ruler of the Underworld. So, um, deep, dire and drastic.

@nerys plutonic/platonic, I think. I never noticed my spelling was so atrocious till the ubiquity of typing. My handwriting was always so bad no one noticed 😉

(Ironically a chapter of my dissertation revolves around the significance of switched vowels, either as misspellings or miss pronunciations or works with common origins (virtue/vartue,…[Read more]

@nerys Umm, Clara and Danny – me too. I could never see quite what the attraction was. It suited the plot to have Clara fall in love with Danny, but the start of Dark Water would have been even more devastating (for me) if Danny had been a character I cared about. And would have lent even more conviction to that awesome scene in the volc…[Read more]

@nerys and @blenkinsopthebrave I finally got to watch the whole thing in a ad free binge over 2 days and I will watch again soon as it needs a few viewings to catch it all. My first impression is that it looks great with lots of special effects and even better period scenes with wonderful costumes. I liked the look of the dog alien but not so m…[Read more]

@nerys I think you may have in part hit the nail on the head the whole series series felt too rushed. In some part I think some of the COVID restrictions will have had some effect on production and I suspect Upper Management at the BeeB may have a had their sticky fingers in the pie so to speak so your comment about too many cooks is very apt.

@janetteb, @winston, @blenkinsopthebrave, @dentarthurdent, @nerys, @mudlark, @missy, thank you all. And yes, I live with my partner, who actually found her (I didn’t see her) and he’s been fantastic, doing most of the sorting through of things in her rooms upstairs (she was something of a hoarder) while I try to plug on with finishing my disser…[Read more]
