Last time I was in the UK, I was there for three weeks and it only rained twice: once for 10 days and once for 11 days. 🙂

@ps1l0v3y0u I think you’re right about this tracing back to the ’80s. Margaret Atwood wrote The Handmaid’s Tale in reaction to that very thing. Scary to think how prescient she was (and still is). It doesn’t matter to me if Trump is the author of any of this. I highly doubt that he is. But he’s happy to ride on its coattails and enable whatever…[Read more]

@ps1l0v3y0u    Did tRump describe Farage as a patriot?    Well first of all it’s none of his business.   Secondly tRump’s idea of patriotism – well he has no concept of it.   His idea of what is good for the country is anything that makes money for tRump.

Any time tRump mentions ‘patriotism’ Dr Johnson’s savage dictum comes to mind ‘an appeal to…[Read more]

@ps1l0v3y0u It’s not the chronology that worries me, so much as the reality we face. The thought of a far-right autocracy is scary. What’s worse is that even if Trump is not elected in 2025, Project 2025 will be waiting in the wings until a Republican is elected. So it’s not going away.

@fozzyb

you expressed an opinion as to how The Doctor should not behave… or how Doctor Who should not be written. It begged the question… how would you want this character, with all its history, to be presented? Kindly spell out what you would like to see. Bear in mind this series has been marked by two well publicised departures, and many peo…[Read more]

@ps1l0v3y0u, @dentarthurdent, @mudlark, @nerys, craig,

Regarding PR, we all have different experiences, depending on the voting system we grew up with. In Australia, for instance, it operated in tandem with compulsory voting, and as such, worked quite well IMO. Would it work as well in the UK or Canada? perhaps not. Then there is the question of…[Read more]

@winston @ps1l0v3y0u Trump appeals to a segment of the population who feel they have been ignored by the liberal elite and/or big government. There’s certainly a fair bit of truth to that, but what they don’t seem to realize is that Trump is not their guy. He’s only using them to get what he wants, which is power at anyone’s expense but his. He’s…[Read more]

Ha, I did see those pics. I was 12 at that time, but I remember those days

On a side note. I went to school with Alan Rankin’s sister, my mate went out with her for a brief period. Used to go round to her house and met Alan a few times. He had a massive record collection.

For those who don’t know, Billy McKenzie and Alan Rankine…[Read more]

Interesting …. And you DID mention “Splice” (….Data Splice….) before -as in Daughter of …who also said “silly, he’s not gone. He’s just dead” of her dad.

@craig, @jimthefish, @ps1l0v3y0u, and everyone else on the forum from the UK,

I hope all goes well.

It just so happened that I was watching “Inferno” where the Pertwee Doctor is transported to an alternative fascist Britain. It seemed like science fiction back in the ’70s. I really hope tolerance wins the day tomorrow.

@ps1l0v3y0u  I always listened to my Dad also, he was very wise. He told me that I had a few powers to influence Canada and the world and the most important in a Democratic society was to vote. The other was where my money went and who profits from it but that is another topic. See, he was very wise.

I have friends and family that don’t always…[Read more]

As my mother used to say

Never quote your parents

No, wait. It was

When you’re in the pub never talk religion or politics

But, she had Northern Irish heritage and we know how sensitive both those topics were in that region. The point being,  I think, that you are unlikely to change anyone’s mind on…[Read more]

The description for this small virtual pub, this little corner of the site is:

No need to apologise for any talk about your political leanings.

All comments are welcome. If you are a Dalek, cool. Hopefully most of us are n…[Read more]

@craig, @ps1l0v3y0u, @WhoHar,

Voting is essential for a civilized society. I grew up in Australia, before moving to Canada late in life. As such, I grew up with compulsory voting and I have always been in favour of it, just as I am in favour of rules and expectations that we all are told to stop at traffic lights. Does it mean the most worthy…[Read more]

I think the problem is three-fold:

The two (three) main parties do not have sufficient differentiators in their policies, noting that some are further to the right than others. And there is a deep mistrust of the mainstream politicians in particular.

People see a vote for a smaller party as a wasted vote.

The Vote:Seat…[Read more]

TBH I’ve never had a major problem with the Timeless Child element of ZChib’s tenure as showrunner ,as I am a tv watching of child of the mid 70s,I just felt his treatment and use of JodieW as the Doctor was very poor. I always felt he turned her tenure into a bit of the soap of the week and the Flux season well that was as con…[Read more]

re the set for PoM…I’m sure Mick was very grateful

And what a good sport he must have been, to allow the BBC to burn his house down like that, and all for a TV programme.

I mean the actual Roman lance from Golgotha.

The Lance. Understood. Apparently there are a couple of them still floating around. One in Vienna, and another one somewhere in Europe I think.

Lots of religious artefacts all over the place, and all 100% genuine of course.

I’m not sure ap William (= Son of William I found out) is going to…[Read more]
