Now, because I like changing the effing tone, here’s some of the most romantic poetry I’ve ever heard.
but, y’know kinda linked from HMHB (better ogwt link) if only in terms of tone….
oh, and btw Shazzbot, to my mind a better version of Lotus Feet if people are feeling a little assaulted by the geeetarrs….
22 August 2013 at 22:45 #16515@wolfweed – did I say Grandmaster?
yes.
yes I did.@shazzbot – its checkmate from the weed. Everywhere I
looklink now I see HMHB videos.as ever, I blame Wolfweed.
That’s hours I’ve been on the tube tonight….
22 August 2013 at 21:31 #16513my god @wolfweed – that’s a musical arc!!
I really needed that tonight!
More than happy (in fact I beg) for you to post a HMHB choon every
weekday!it even had a Who ref – its like you’re some kind of Grandmaster at this!
😉
22 August 2013 at 09:07 #1650322 August 2013 at 06:17 #16501Ha ha, no worries @sonicginsling – I wasn’t thinking it was keeping you up all night
🙂
But the @denvaldron posts were just funny (as well as off the wall!).
Afraid there’s no way I can summarise the HurtDoc theories – you may have to skim the Next Doctor thread (as well as 50th thread).
Sorry!
21 August 2013 at 23:49 #16495@jimthefish – a mighty whisht?? a mighty quiet??
;¬)
I really owe @galactus a reply to the Sandman comics. I feel pretty bad – on his suggestion I went and ‘found’ some of the first series and read them. But I didn’t write down my thoughts contemporaneously (which would’ve made sense) nor sat back and considered them in more than a glib “these are a few thoughts” kind’ve way.
maybe this weekend (which admittedly I’ve said a few times before weekends)…..
21 August 2013 at 23:45 #16494[aggh! that’s the second time today I’ve lost a post I was sending!
grrr…. starts typing again but less considered….][ahem]
@shazzbot – its not competitive (which is handy as I’m shite at games, cards and sports!).
And mainly I love the way we/I shoe-horn in Who references into songs we/I post. The more tortuous the better!
🙂
and then share something which is simply wonderful amongst friends!
21 August 2013 at 23:27 #16491ah @sonicginsling and @madscientist72 – I just have to say, that although its an interesting theory, there’s a high bar that’s been set on getting CushingDoc into continuity.
and not just a single post, but further replies…
Its a shame we haven’t heard from @denvaldron for a while, as he’s got a true fondness for those films, and had a pretty clear theory.
and he had a nice way with words – was about to put some of the choicest lines in here, but will hold back in case anyone wants to read and I won’t spoil their fun!
21 August 2013 at 22:28 #16485btw – I do love a bit of Ladysmith Black Mambazo too, and FA made me giggle!
But that just sounds like I’m encouraging you….
[tut]
21 August 2013 at 22:25 #16484oh, riiiiiigggghhhht Shazzbot, like that is it????!??
🙂
well, I was trying to think how your Squeeze posts were even vaguely on topic (I mean, if I was choosing a Squeeze song then I’d choose this (in fact I may have already) Someone Else’s Heart (“I read her diary…”)
but actually I was contemplating this instead – as I think you’ve been going off topic…. so…..
you’re modded!
But, I’ve done you the decency of choosing the original Mod classic, and as to its relevance to anything here…..? well, I can’t explain……
😉
21 August 2013 at 07:16 #16452Ah that’s ok @sonicginsling
Actually a brilliant guy on this forum did have a theory which brought those films into Who continuity (involving Dalek dry runs on their foe the Doctor if memory serves).
Wonderfully bonkers, but with a real fondness for Cushing and those films. Don’t think I’ve read anything by him for quite a while, which is a shame.
And as @shazzbot says, we love theories even more insane than what’s actually happening
20 August 2013 at 21:21 #16436hey @sonicginsling – welcome/ howdy/ howyooodoin’?
1) just type using type-emoticons as in “colon” directly followed with no space by “end-parenthesis” 🙂
It seems WordPress interprets what we type (eg colon end parenthesis) and substitutes in the appropriate yellowish smiley.
god knows the characters some people here know though (embarrassed??!?) – I guess I need to highlight the smiley, copy and paste in Notepad or similar to find out!
2) add an “at” sign directly in front of their username – that’s all I did at the beginning of this comment!
3) I agree its always good to have a third.
hope this helps (a bit)
18 August 2013 at 12:46 #16352Another random thought…
Someone once mentioned on a thread here, many moons ago, that the Doctor’s accent is influenced by the previous companion.
A lovely idea! Ecclestone’s northern accent becomes Tennant’s ‘southern’ after spending so much time with Rose. Smith’s ‘southern’ is again Rose and Martha’s influence. And Capaldi’s Scottish, will be due to Amy.
Lovely.
I just wonder if the reason is that actually we hear the Doctor via the Tardis’ translation circuits, and that Sexy is being a wee bit naughty (jealous?) and getting the accent ‘right’ for the companion just a weeny bit late.
😉
18 August 2013 at 12:36 #16351Ah yes @jimthefish – I’ve never been exactly watertight on my theories!
In fact my theories are like colanders! I mean, one was that HurtDoc was forced to enter the after-death “scar” as a punishment/ prison, forever watching the consequences of his actions…
But if Clara and SmithDoc can enter the scar and escape (as they surely must)then why couldn’t he have done that before…?
Hey ho!
18 August 2013 at 09:20 #16344Sorry for random bonkers thought. Blame @jimthefish as it was something he suggested on the big bang thread.
What if the Hurt Doctor blew up the Tardis?
My reason (not jim’s) is so that nothing (including the Tardis) can break the Time War time lock.Done in the name of peace and sanity, but not in the name of the Doctor…
17 August 2013 at 18:57 #1632817 August 2013 at 16:46 #16319psst @wolfweed – /bmi image madness again!
(we can’t see Jenny Colgan!)
17 August 2013 at 10:42 #16306just heard Armando Iannucci on the Danny Baker show – he seems to be a fan of Doctor Who!
and with the Capaldi connection…. oh PLEASE someone beg him to do an episode!
[ahem]
apologies, but a man can dream….
;¬)
15 August 2013 at 22:23 #16242@thommck – actually you’re “pipes” explanation is similar to my “moments across a membrane/ onion skin” analogy (which certainly wasn’t as catchy).
There are differences, but it looks like I’m gonna have to crack open the post-its* this weekend to see if I’m thinking straight (or wibbly….)
15 August 2013 at 06:07 #16172@wolfweed – you’re a chameleon arched cabbage???!!?
To be honest, sometimes i feel like I’m a talking aspidistra…
14 August 2013 at 22:36 #16167@shazzbot – as far as willy jokes manage to hit home, I blame @wolfweed.
Generally I blame wolfweed – even at work where they’ve never heard of wolfweed and wonder how it impacts project timelines, I hold firm.
I hold firm and stand proud.
I’m never wibbly wobbly at work.
now, lets leave it there and say no more about it….
14 August 2013 at 22:30 #16166ah, ok, @thommck, @shazzbot, @nick….
In terms of Rose giving the number to Clara, I guess I’m simply thinking Doc10 (or metacrisisDoc) and Rose “simply” jump into Doc 11’s fractured time-scar (rather than just Clara jumping out of it, however she does that).
If they can jump ‘in’, then sequentially, they do this after Doc 11 has jumped into his own scar and so none of the “he’d have known that already” would happen.
But there’s nothing, zilch, zero to suggest that they can jump in, other than me reading the whole casting stuff and thinking well, I wonder how they manage that….
…and thinking was I the only viewer to hear unrelated tyre screeches in tBoSJ that could easily have been dubbed out?
and did I just say “zero”?
Duck!
14 August 2013 at 22:20 #16163@craig – good! 🙂
mind you, I had some erudite time-travel-related insights to enlighten everyone with, but perhaps I’ve found my level with willy-jokes and should leave it there!
;¬)
14 August 2013 at 22:02 #1616014 August 2013 at 21:55 #1615814 August 2013 at 21:36 #16150of course, Ghost Light really only has one song that makes sense.
And this is the only context, that this song makes sense.
which is kinda neat.
14 August 2013 at 21:31 #16147ah.
erm, that’ll be Lambert.
um
whaddya want from the bar? Deuchars? Whisky?
14 August 2013 at 21:25 #16145hey @craig – I was just about to post here saying was this pub playing the footy, but got sidetracked by the jukebox.
I’m not really watching either (its on in the background) and just keep looking up as a goal goes in!
oops, tthat’ll be Rooney getting the hook soon then….
🙂
14 August 2013 at 21:22 #16143ah, @shazzbot, me mum always said they grew me tall to get the best plates down….
she was about 5′ 4″.
14 August 2013 at 21:20 #16142however, as for songs for any old Who episode we’ve decided to watch ( 😉 ) then I’m all for it!
In terms of the whole dodgy “racism or no racism, that is the question…”, the Talons of Weng Chiang made me think of this:
[but of course this is described as a response to racism…. but that was a subtlety lost to my young at the time mind….]
14 August 2013 at 21:10 #16138hmmmmm……
@Shazzbot, I’ve got BT Broadband (for my sins) but I could see Oingo Boingo’s video (maybe changed in days since you posted??).
Not sure. I’m not using wifi from the router (no idea if that might make a difference).
anyhoo – I had wondered whether this video would also get barred.
Think about it. Dodgy singer’s name. Vilifying a section of the community.
Disgusting prejudice quite frankly.I give you “Randy” Newman – Short People.
the bigotry is unforgivable.
Thank fuck I’m over six foot – I feel sorry for all the short-arses.
14 August 2013 at 20:58 #16136@wolfweed – I read that as “Craig and his big weapon again” and nodded sagely.
Now I don’t know what to write.
.
at all.
.
.
ever.
14 August 2013 at 20:30 #16134erm – look, I don’t want to douse the roaring flames of happiness, but as of 20:29 I can only see a url link, not an embedded image in Wolfweed’s #16132
sorry!
14 August 2013 at 20:18 #1613114 August 2013 at 20:14 #16128@wolfweed – can you find an image for me?
Its a blackboard with the words:
“I will always shift+R before I copy the URL from now on.
I will always shift+R before I copy the URL from now on.
I will always shift+R before I copy the URL from now on.
I will always shift+R before I copy the URL from now on.
I will always shift+R before I copy the URL from now on.
I will always shift+R before I copy the URL from now on.
I will always shift+R before I copy the URL from now on….”repeated 100 times.
if you cant find it, no worries, happy to see the next image inflicted on us as they’re so effing amusing.
😉
13 August 2013 at 20:44 #16055hmm, lurking and dipping in at the mo due to…. well, stuff.
anyway, I think (for what its worth) that Rose gave Clara the number in the shop; that Clara sees an illustration of Rose in the History of the Time War (“so that’s who…”), and that Rose and Doc10 will be intersecting with at least tBoSJ, but maybe other episodes too.
I will not let it lie*, that there is an unnecessary tyre screech when they’re in the cafe in tBoSJ!!
.
*until I am proven wrong as I have been by so many things….
oh, and I think that Clara as carer for TimeLordKiddies is insane. Not bonkers, but clearly indubitably insane.
Well done!
;¬)
8 August 2013 at 22:00 #15711@bluesqueakpip – ooh excellent (as ever)! Am loving fatmaninabox and everyone else’s riff on this.
but mainly loving how we’re thinking this through far harder than the writers!
🙂
and I’m not being snarky – the creative process is about choices – writers take choices in the same way that the universe (one could say) follows possibilities. Its just that we have the ability to imagine other choices which are just as good (and maybe sometimes even better).
its why i love it here!!
8 August 2013 at 19:54 #15707@craig and @Shazzbot (I know that won’t link yet but I hope one day it will),
Let’s just say that we are massively grateful to Craig, thankful for the energy of Shazzbot and really sorry there’s been disagreement.
Happy (pm/ offline) to hear-both-sides and act as a bounce-wall (if that in any way helps), but equally happy to allow Time to do its thing and hopefully get a similar end result – an active forum for everyone who enjoys Who, good conversation and bonkers theories (including those from you Shazzbot).
Now, there seems to be a thread considering a bonkers theory concerning Clara…
7 August 2013 at 21:49 #15672surprised I’m the first to mention it but….
is there any chance Armando Iannucci will write for Doctor Who??

6 August 2013 at 23:13 #15608@drtennant – let’s just hope she wasn’t fed up with people’s grammar and misspelling.
It’d be a shame.
6 August 2013 at 23:05 #15607btw I am in no way condemning Capaldi to forever be Tucker (he’s already been more than that and he’ll be Richelieu next year anyway), but “Tucktor” sprang to mind and seemed too good to pass up.
I admit – I’m cheap. But both are verbally very good (lets hope they get the scripts they deserve).
6 August 2013 at 23:01 #15606hi @blenkinsopthebrave – I think I agree. I actually think that JLC is a good actress who could ping off quite a few actors (she seems smart as a person as well as a character) but think that the Clara thing is knotty.
It’d be great to see her bounce off the Tucktor verbally – at least for a bit.
6 August 2013 at 22:24 #15602hmmm @craig – Twelve Angry Men is an awesome film (slightly dim memory of it but remember it was powerful as well as intelligent).
But twelve angry paintings….. hm, reminiscent of Sensations, or shows by Emin perhaps. Neither I wish to revisit.
😮
but how about High Noon??
allows production to move again to US and the Western; a singular hero and beautiful companion…. aw c’mon, I DEMAND that this happen!!
ARSE!!
6 August 2013 at 21:49 #15600ah, Twelfth Night, of course….
well, at least there’ll be no romantic entanglements to worry @nick et al
😉
4 August 2013 at 21:34 #15255ah well, there’s a grand on Zoe Ball being the next Doctor pissed into the wind…
4 August 2013 at 20:09 #15224ah, @rob thank you.
yes one does get breathless, but you tend to wave with one hand and…
oh ffs.
I can’t carry on this inanity single-handed
oh ffs #2
🙂
4 August 2013 at 19:52 #15212well, we’re spared the “he’s too old for her” snogging next year at least.
.
unless they’re quite brave.
*edit – oh, forgot River.
actually, I’m really glad they went for an actor who’s older than 30 or 40.
4 August 2013 at 19:36 #15192Hi @Shazzbot – I’m afraid no Who 50th trailer.
and no facial hair on Capaldi (for now).
.
I btw currently am cleanly shaven (across the whole of my bonce).
the Hirsute Report ends here.
4 August 2013 at 19:29 #15179well that’s a fucking gangbang of a revelation with tissues and .. oh , no, thou shalt not do this meme…
4 August 2013 at 19:27 #15172capaldi more than possibly
