@geoffers

he still doesn’t technically remember clara, i’m guessing, but he does remember donna, quite well, and the moment when he decides not to mind-wipe her memories was a call back to that, methinks…

Well, in the moment when the Doctor hesitates as he reaches out to wipe Bill’s memory, the music which we hear is Clara’s theme 🙂

As I have…[Read more]

@arbutus  I have been cleaning and researching my treasure all winter.  I found some 1920s art-deco style jars that I am finding lids for and storing dry goods in because the shapes are so cool , the ink wells go into the collection and the rest…..?  I have collected Canadiana since I was about 10 and found an old stoneware crock that was…[Read more]

@Whisht

You have just reminded me that I have a copy of The City and the City which I bought ages ago and put aside to read later.  It got buried under a pile of other books, but I have just checked and relocated it, so I have put it back on top of the pile.  I must have read most of Ray Bradbury’s output back in the day and it is, as you say, h…[Read more]

BBC APPROVED SPOILERS...

@Arbutus As one of the chief offenders I do feel very guilty about being so off topic and I occasionally try to throw in a Who related comment but the discussions have been so interesting. And one “off topic” subjects we have to shut out cat in the back part of the house or he will wake me up continually through the night. Occasionally at bedtime…[Read more]

@mudlark your posts are always interesting. I enjoy reading everything you write. I would love to have studied archaeology along with history but it wasn’t an option.

I was really born on the tipping point from “old world” to new. I recall some of the last vestiges of that “old world”. When I was very young there was a shop over the road which…[Read more]

@arbutus  Thanks for the link!  Apparently there was also in interview with the Radio Times that has drawn a good deal of ire — seems they sent a reporter with no notion of who (or Who) she was talking with, and does not watch “Doctor Who”, and her comments on his comments are being read as deeply rude and dismissive.  I haven’t found the RT…[Read more]

@thane15

Delighted and relieved to know that you all survived with nothing worse than a little rising/falling  damp, though I feel for all those who were flooded out, or lost their roofs or more.

I don’t know whether you followed up the link I included, but if not, and you weren’t already aware of the site, it is quite entertaining and i…[Read more]

@arbutus Cleaning bathrooms is always a job for tomorrow. I am feeling guilty this week because I have not done any writing, Too busy editing a podcast. In terms of gardening Canada is the opposite of S.A. We can’t do any gardening in summer due to the heat so we are just heading into garden season now and my garden is greatly in need of attention…[Read more]

@thane15  (puro)

Flattery will get you a long way, 🙂 but I think that you over-praise my garden.   The word ‘professional’ would not occur to anyone seeing it at the moment, at any rate, although it has a certain degree of dishevelled charm, with the narcissi, primroses, violets, camellia and Japanese quince in full flower   It is still sufferi…[Read more]

@Arbutus – wow, Autumn Leaves. Haven’t listened to that in years and so listened to it like it was the first time.
Made me stop, not twiddle with my phone, not read something else while listening, not watch the TV.
My mood matched the song, so thank you sooooo much!

@Missrori – I’m sure others have written better than I about the Doctor’s…[Read more]

Hi @Whisht @Pedant @Arbutus @Craig @Puroandson

I’m still recovering from “Hell-ection night in America” 👿

2016 OFFICIALLY SUCKS BALLS!!!

@Arbutus– yes, just woke up to that. Fucking 2016…

@arbutus

I totally agree with you.

But the question is if HRC would have seen victory if  Sanders was her running mate?

I still think Sanders as the VP would have offset her problem with the  “Bernies”  AND

it would have created an interesting balance of talents too.  Plus Bernie has an ability

to reach people on the stump in ways that HR…[Read more]

@Craig – loved that school video! Cheered me up no end!

@Arbutus – I’ve not heard Stan Rogers before. Enjoyed it (though I don’t the references).

Well, apparently life was better in the ol’ days so here’s a song by a great composer from the great ol’ days of America*.

*not actually sure which…[Read more]

Hi @Arbutus – eclectic? I think I’m more erratic but thanks!

That is a gorgeous bit of Haden. Maybe its because I’m listening on crappy headphones, but I could do without Metheny’s more angular plucking (at least early in the track) and just listen to Haden’s really warm, sensual playing.

Now, I think it was @Missrori who wrote an elegant post…[Read more]

Others have beaten me to it and have covered almost all there is to say.  As @Arbutus has said in different words, the Doctor is the Doctor because he can do no other; in essence that is who he is – or who he has become over the centuries.  Sometimes he yields to the force of circumstance and lapses – which is why he does not ackno…[Read more]

@arbutus   As for “being the Doctor”, I don’t think that’s something that he can choose. We saw Eleven try it after losing Amy and Rory, and it didn’t work out terribly well for him then.

Mmm, yes; it’s that identity that he occasionally drops, so that we can see him pick it up again, like a sword and shield, and move into purposeful action agai…[Read more]

@arbutus  Thanks for Weird Al, good giggles!

@puroandson  re Trumpenstein — it’s all very stressful and strange.  One unforeseen effect is that people are voting early in impressive numbers, Democrats probably more than Republicans, in part to avoid becoming embroiled in, well, thuggish embroilments at crowded polling places on Nov. 8.  I dou…[Read more]

@arbutus. I cannot restrain myself from offering an alternative, gender-specific, response to @pedant‘s clip:

As someone who was about their age in the 1970s, I love the hair on those guys, takes me right back to the day!
