On the other hand, I also saw a brilliantly lovely movie this week called The Big Sick. Not that it really means anything, but it has 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. I heartily recommend it. There is talk that it will at least be up for Best Screenplay at the Oscars. It’s a heartwarming film, and definitely one for our…[Read more]

So I went to see the new Star Wars movie today – cos I hate spoilers but I’m on the internet all the time. So NO SPOILERS here.
I was underwhelmed, which is a shame because I like director Rian Johnson’s work a lot. ‘Brick’ is a fantastic movie and Looper has a lot of good ideas even if it doesn’t quite hold completely together.
This is the…[Read more]

Now here’s an interesting episode in the tale. Not only is the fourth episode missing (don’t worry, there’s a reconstruction for next week), but the Doctor is missing from this third episode.
Days before filming, William Hartnell told the BBC that he was too ill to appear. Script editor Gerry Davis quickly rewrote the script, had the Doctor…[Read more]

@whisht Supposedly the ‘computer tape’-style opening and closing title graphics were specially created for this story by graphic designer Bernard Lodge.
It’s in the “Trivia” section here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/classic/episodeguide/tenthplanet/detail.shtml

Naomi Klein was on Desert Island Discs this week in the UK, but it’s available worldwide via BBC’s radio iPlayer if you want to check it out. One of her discs was this, which I’d never heard before. It made me laugh – a lot. Especially given, y’know, who’s running the US right now. Her father was a conscientious objector. But some are just…[Read more]

I don’t ‘think’ this is a spoiler (apologies if you think it is). I think of it more as an exciter, if you’re following along. I recognise that control room used for this Christmas episode publicity shot. Seems this story will be very relevant. So if you’ve not already joined in, get started. This is where worlds collide. You can find part one…[Read more]

The Cybermen have arrived at the antarctic base from the tenth planet, Mondas, Earth’s former sister planet. While everyone is trying to get the Zeus IV astronauts safely back to Earth the Cybermen infiltrate the base. The base personnel and Polly plead with the Cybermen to allow them to save the lives of the Zeus IV crew, but the Cybermen say…[Read more]

@wolfweed Cheers. I’d found the footage + stills reconstruction but not the animation.
It won’t hurt to offer both as a final watching experience. Might even be an interesting topic of conversation – what do people prefer?

@wolfweed that made me laugh. To you and @bluesqueakpip, many thanks.
Strangely enough, on the day I was made redundant last week, the website I do, as just part of my job, was ranked 4th best corporate website in the UK, equal with BP (who probably have a massive team). One of those luscious, movie-moment coincidences.
So at least you know…[Read more]

Next up is the first Doctor’s final story – hopefully that’s not too much of a spoiler as it’s the reason we’re discussing it. So come, be merry, and watch a story that will lead directly into the Christmas special, and will probably be referenced quite heavily. So if you want to understand the back story and get all the in-jokes after you’ve had…[Read more]

@bluesqueakpip and @jimthefish
Thanks for giving m a kick up the butt Pip. I am being made redundant now, so am neck deep in lawyers and negotiations. But will try to get things back on track – if not today then tomorrow.
But yeah, spoilers needs fixed – I’ll do that now.

Just popping on because in a bit of a difficult time this made me laugh so much. On Halloween Dave Grohl dressed up as David Letterman (the retired version) and presented the Jimmy Kimmel Show. And Kristen Bell (from Frozen, and who is fast becoming a national treasure) dressed up as Magnum PI. And they jammed. The band were also dressed as 80s…[Read more]

Hi all, sorry I’ve been a bit AWOL but there’s some restructuring going on at my company. I may lose my job and be made redundant, or I may get a promotion. I had an interview today. Obviously I’d prefer the latter option.
Normal service will be resumed shortly.

This week is the finalé. And the episode is actually called “The Keys of Marinus”. As time ticks away (literally) the Doctor, the companions and assorted hangers-on are still trying to prove Ian is innocent of murder and save Susan from her kidnappers.
I won’t say anymore before you watch it, except to say that the resolution is a bit swift…[Read more]

@bluesqueakpip Y’know what major stuff just happened? A new episode of The Keys of Marinus was posted (it was, admittedly, posted on Sunday and not Saturday – life got in the way).
Just one of the people letting you know. 🙂

@missrori Just one example that made me laugh today – because sometimes the court jesters actually make the most sense. Big hugs.

@missrori Sorry to hear that. I know what you mean. You may find some useful tips in this article. There’s a lot of good advice. I know I have when I’ve needed to re-adjust some times.
Also, as you’re a Doctor…[Read more]

@blenkinsopthebrave Good to have you back. As you say, after your excitement for a Hartnell retrospective I was kinda worried when we hadn’t seen you for 5 weeks. Hope all is well. The good news is that you’re back just in time for the finale next week!
