@purofilion – I think I know why I missed out on the documentary with Susan… I did buy the Anniversary Specials on Amazon (the very moment they were released to the US! I stalked the site and kept hitting ‘refresh’ until it was there. lol). And with it, I did get a documentary but it was about Matt Smith and no mention of old stars… not even the Fourth, even though he was in the special. Sadly, I think the US misses out on some documentaries and specials, and the UK gets all of the goodies, because someone here decides, “Eh, we don’t need to import that one.” It’s annoying! So, I will go searching for that one, 🙂

@monochromedimension – I did catch up to the clock melting episode! Now, I know exactly what you mean! After the next episode, I’m wondering what’s going to happen, because the whole serials to “Marco Polo” is said to be missing. Ah! 🙁

@monochromedimension – Well, the Eleventh Doctor would say, “Panama Hats are cool”, and that’s one item I would agree is cool. I don’t blame your love of them. For me personally, I avoid all hats and can’t stand wearing them. Scarfs are nice though. 😉

Ah! Playing the spoons is very much a lost art, I think. I loved your clip of the Seventh playing them! 😀

@arbutus – Yes, I don’t mind the screaming at all, from Susan or Barbara. It’s something that I do expect in older movies and in anything current for that matter. It’s okay when a character is “stone face” against danger, but when someone screams in reaction to it, it does seem like the more natural thing to do.

However, I did watch the episode about the melting clock earlier today… When Barbara first screamed, I jumped and thought, “What?! What happened?!” And then there stood a melted clock and she was completely falling to pieces over it. I’m not sure why she tossed her wrist watch, was it melting too? It seemed so random, but it did cause me to pay attention to that detail within the story. I’ll watch the second episode to the series later tonight. I just wanted to say that I think you’re onto something there, about how writers added the screams for tension… that was a very tense moment, for sure!

@whisht – LOL! Yes, that’s was my first reaction to the song as well, when I first found it last year, that’s why I love it so much. Hey, do the foxes in your garden say, “A-hee-ahee-ha-hee!”? If they did, that’s one hilarious garden you have there! 😀

Actually, after I had enjoyed the song, I did a little research into what a fox actually says. They have over 40 different calls for different occasions, and many of the calls within the song are accurate. A fun fact is the “wa-pa-pa-pow” call is the fox mating one. And now I’m wondering what does the giraffe say. 😛

@arbutus – Yes! I love “The Fox” so much because it’s so silly and done as a comedy act for a Norwegian talk show, although Ylvis did the video so professionally and it sounds just like a usual pop-song. A lot of people HATE it, so that’s why I tentatively shared it, although I don’t understand why someone would hate it at all… it’s FUN! And I love the dancers white shirts, dark ties, and fox hats. Too much fun!

Wow, that’s cool about your son’s music school. And don’t worry, I’ve heard some dubstep that I didn’t like and thought it was just noise as well. My mother is a Beethoven fan, I’m more of a groupie to Chopin, not to mention all of the 50’s and 60’s music in between (and my love for 80’s music mixed in). I have a huge pallet for music in general… and I very much agree that there is a very fine line between music and noise. However, every now and then I find a nice piece within dubstep or today’s current pop music (slim pickings sometimes). And then I instantly buy it and add it to my iTunes. 😉

@monochromedimension – Wow, I didn’t know that Etsy had Doctor Who items! I have to give that site another look then, I’m always on the hunt for Doctor Who items. And yes, you must have the umbrella! I don’t know the Seventh too well yet, but I remember the umbrella. That’s like the Fourth without his scarf. LOL!

I have to finish watching the other Doctor Who episodes, so I can see the reaction of Barbara with the melted clock. It sounds hilarious. I wasted part of my morning with silly Youtube videos once again, it’s a bad habit of mine.

@monochromedimension – Yes, I was a lot frustrated with Netflix when I wanted to view the old Fourth Doctor serials and they only had a few episodes out of sync. Then I found Dailymotion and it’s been my savior ever since for Doctor Who. I love the old effects as well and that clip is very well done! I can’t wait to get to that episode. I love the fact that no matter which regeneration the Doctor is in, I’m giddy like a little girl whenever he appears on screen. 😀

I once looked for the Fourth Doctor’s scarf, just because I wanted it for winter (I’m silly), they had quite a few there. Maybe you could find items for the Seventh there?

It’s sad that the older episodes before the reboot is not included on “Netflix” or “Hulu”. The series starting with the Ninth are, which is how I started my obsession with the show all over again on Netflix. 😉

@whisht – Yes, I have a very limited amount of songs in my mind about sunshine, that theme was hard for to come up with upbeat songs about it. I love the rain, so I have many songs on that subject in mind. The song from Rezonate (“Lonely”) doesn’t really fit in the theme, because it starts off with a rainy track, however it’s so pretty that I really wanted to share it with everyone here. I never heard of that group either, I just happened across them while browsing Youtube the other morning. 🙂

As for dubstep, I’m very new to that genre of music. I’m from the era of techno/trance, where the songs go “doof, doof, doof!”. Dubstep is a new sounds of “wah, wah, wah!”, so it’s interesting. And I feel OLD, because a lot of people much younger than me know dubstep well by now, I’m just discovering it since last spring.

ROTFL! Yes, I wasn’t speaking of those kind of suspenders, even though The Rocky Horror Picture Show is awesome. Too funny! :-p

@monochromedimension – LOL! Yes, that’s very similar to my experience of the rock scene! I gasped, my mouth wide open in shock, and I yelled out, “WHAT?” I couldn’t believe the Doctor was doing that, it was so disturbing, yet hilarious at the same time. Although, I love that I’m getting to see the Doctor when he was more alien, I love it when characters go through an arch of development in any story. Oh, and I complete adore it when there’s random screaming or fainting in old films or shows! So, I don’t mind Barbara at all for that. I also love the dramatic “dun, dun, dun!” music to signify something terrible has or is about to happen. I miss that in movies and shows of today, to be honest. I grew up on the old black and white films and comedy acts.

Congrats on finding Panama Hat! It sounds like you’re well on your way for the best cosplay costume yet! And I do like Seventh’s style, I don’t see why you couldn’t wear it in general. 😉

@purofilion – Okay, whew… I was nervous that I had offended you for a moment there! I do tend to be a little too blunt sometimes, without meaning to be. This is why I like the Tenth so much, because he also has that problem, like when he told Donna that she wasn’t important or special, but he really meant that he couldn’t find the reason why she appeared on the Tardis (her response to that was hilarious), he was just too blunt without meaning to be, I think. I have those slip of the tongue as well. I’m glad that you didn’t take offense. And what’s the name of this documentary? I would love to see it, because I always love to see how well old characters have aged. When Sarah Jane Smith returned, I was a lot excited to see her again and was in awe that she really didn’t age a day since the Fourth Doctor! And I was sad when I heard of her passing… I haven’t gotten to her spin-off show yet, but I will.

@purofilion – Oh, I see. Well, I meant no offensive to the actress or to Susan fans. My judgments do come off a little too scathing sometimes, more than I mean them to, and I do apologize. What I meant to convey is that I think Susan is a bit too “weird”, even for me… and I’m a proud weirdo, however that’s just me. There may be a generation gap, as I don’t understand the hands in the air running bit at all or how it could be the image of the 50’s or 60’s. Well… I can understand a little… people younger than me don’t understand the over dramatics within old 80’s movies, yet I understand it, with the “We’re happy now! Oops… now we’re sad. No wait, we’re happy again!” mood shifts in acting. That was SO much the 80’s era in general, so perhaps it’s more like that? The only documentary I’ve had the pleasure of watching involving Doctor Who was that about Daleks. I’m a student of the show, just learning more of it as I go along. 🙂

And that many do love the old series, thus can clue me better on where to go and what to pay attention to with the older generation of Doctors. I like him for that, yet don’t like him for it at the same time. It’s a weird feeling I have for him right now. I love Ian and Barbara from the start… not so much with Susan. Is she whiny for the entire seasons? And I don’t now what to make of the way she “run”, with her hands all over the place dramatically. Hmm…

Yes, the first episode with the Ninth Doctor was completely weird, although I’m a child of the Fourth Doctor (Tom Baker) and I’m very use to weird effects and storylines. My friends also nudged me into the new series and I was a lot doubtful that it would be any good… until I saw the episode with the living mannequins and then I was convinced that it was going to be a good reboot of my favorite goofy show. I did cheer out when Micky-mannequin did that weird thing in the restaurant, so relieved that they didn’t decide to go for the overly expensive special effects!

I hope the weather does clear up for Britain. I read that it’s getting pretty bad there.. it seems like the weather has gone crazy now. It’s not behaving properly anywhere on the globe. Minnesota usually gets cold, but we’ve had minus 28C to minus 31. Some parts reached minus 36. Right now, it’s 7C… which is “normal” weather for winter here… for now. It can drop at any second and usually does. Who says that global warming doesn’t exist? Right…

@arbutus – Yes, that’s true. I don’t believe that a millennium old Time Lord should speak like a teen at all, so I do agree with you. I’m just commenting on the fact that the writers really do seem to want to draw in the younger audience, so perhaps that’s why they’re writing the dialogue in teen-speak for the Doctors? It’s just a theory, I could be wrong. Although, Matt Smith is the youngest Doctor in the history of Who and there would have been a time that such a young actor wouldn’t have been picked for the role. Also, Matt has been dubbed as “The Doctor who bought in the younger American crowd”. more so than Tennant is given credit. So, I was thinking perhaps that’s what the current writers are aiming for and they often say to fans who complain “It’s a children’s show, it was always intended for children” as a response. However, I would love it if the Doctors went back to a more adult kind of dialogue… that way I won’t feel so “old”, when I have to Google terms to understand the teen-speak. 😉

Oh and a man in suspenders is just heavenly! I had no issue with the rest of Eleventh’s wardrobe, just the bow tie and fez. I do like the long tie, but somehow bow ties annoy me, somehow. But that’s just my personal taste on it. I mean no offense to all bow tie and fez lovers! 😀

As for the trainers… I have a black pair and I loved the shoe WAY before the Tenth. I would often try to convince my friends and family to get a pair of their own, because I think Converse is cool. LOL! And then the Tenth walked onto the screen with them… it was very hard for me to dislike that Doctor, after that.

@confusedpolarity – Yes! That’s the best line ever, I so agree with it: He’s the Doctor. That automatically makes him the coolest man in most rooms.
That should be framed and hung on every wall, just in case anyone tries to forget it!
Although, I didn’t mind the Eleventh saying that things were “cool”, it was kind of charming and I loved the way he said it. however, I just didn’t agree with the items he was dubbing as cool.Except for stetsons… Stetsons are cool.

@bluesqueakpip – Ah, I see. I missed the silly joke of the fez. completely. Even so, it always annoyed me in a way, but it was just a tiny annoyance is all. I didn’t connect with the Eleventh for other reasons, however I so wanted to! I do love how well Matt Smith was around children, in general. I admire the actor. I respect his regeneration of the Doctor. However, I never got attached to the Eleventh is all. He wasn’t serious and “dark” enough for me, not brooding, and no moments of disappointing shock where I shake my head and think, “Don’t do that, Doctor! Get a hold of yourself, you’re traveling down a dark path now!” and then I get to watch him do the “right thing” in the end. I think I can relate to the Doctor the most when he makes moral mistakes… just like the rest of us, but is clever enough to turn it around to doing what’s good in a very positive way. The Eleventh seemed too ?perfect” to me.

My… we’re so off topic on this thread! Wardrobe and personalities of other Doctors, besides the new one. I’m so sorry, I think I started this. :-p

@scaryb – Yes, I very much appreciate the old episodes of Doctor Who! No offense to Moffat, but it’s way better writing, I think. Also, I love the fact that I’m enjoying the very same episodes that my mother, grandmother. and great grandmother enjoyed when they were my age or younger. I’m actually the fourth generation of my family to love the show. 🙂

I must check out The Minister Of Chance too, it sounds very interesting. Why do I get the feeling that I’m leaving this forum every evening with more fan  “homework” piled on top of my already looming stack? I love it! LOL!

@monochromedimension – I am shocked beyond belief with the First Doctor so far! In the episode where he picks up a stone to kill off the injured caveman, that Ian and the others were trying to help… It was so very shocking and hilarious at the same time! Wow… I think I like and don’t like this Doctor at the same time. I can’t help to wonder, “what will the old man do next?” I do enjoy the storyline off Skaro and the Daleks very much! I’m just waking up, late in the evening here, because I stayed up until past dawn trying to view all of the Dalek serials, because I wanted to find out what happens next! However I lost the fight and only made it to episode “The Expedition” before my eyes closed shut and my head hit the keyboard. I’ll watch more tonight and look forward to it! 😀

Also, I have to say that I love the whole witty banter between the Dalek and Cybermen in the newer series too! I never laughed so hard in my entire life!

@arbutus – Thanks for the tip about Big Finish audio! When I have the money, I’ll check it out for sure (starving “artist” here. lol). I still want to check out the TV/Movie for the Eight and will… It’s like the more fans tell me to skip that one, the more I want to see it! I’m terrible with that. I’m the type that if someone said to me, “Don’t push that button! It will destroy the world!” I would find myself pushing that button! Not that I want the world to be destroyed at all, but I’d be too curious to find out if the world really does end or not. I must see how horrible this movie is for myself, otherwise I’ll always wonder about it and it will drive me nuts!

I’m fine with the fact if its just not their cup of tea, everyone is entitled to their own opinion… but when its bashing just for the sake of it… I have to defend my Doctor.

I’ll always agree with this. I never understood, and doubt that I ever will, when people bash just for the sake of it. Even though I do not fancy the Eleventh Doctor, I still respect him much, because he’s the Doctor all the same. When things get ugly and people want to fight over it, I tend to shy away from those forums or chatrooms. I’m so glad that people keep it pretty civil and flame wars do not happen here. 🙂

@monochromedimension – “Topic Dalek”! It’s funny, because I’m just in the middle of The Daleks serials with the First Doctor, early AM here. I just finished the episode, “The Survivors” and taking a short break before I find out what happens next. 🙂

I’m in awe of the dedication fans have for the show and it never cease to amaze me. It’s a good thing fans had recorded the show and the animation to those recording sound a lot interesting. I’m sure I’ll run across those episodes soon enough.

I so understand. I don’t remember or had missed the regeneration of the Fourth Doctor (I was six years old at the time, so my memory is spotty at best), I only remember the next episode of the Fifth and not understanding that he had regenerated. I called the Fifth “that other guy” for a while, because I thought he was the assistant to the Doctor, just keeping the Tardis warm for him while the Fourth was on “vacation”. It’s so really silly now, but that’s what I believed for a long while, until I realized that the Fourth had gone away for good and the Fifth was the Doctor. So, my mourning for the Fourth began so far into the Fifth’s seasons. I still haven’t reached that episode yet of Fourth’s regeneration, but I expect it will be difficult. I nearly cried for Tenth’s. The line “I don’t want to go.”  hits my heart every time. 🙁

Hey, I often refer to the Fourth and Tenth as “my Doctor”, even though they belong to everyone. I can’t help it! I don’t think it’s odd at all to love these characters so much, not just the Doctor but also the many companions as well. They just have a way of touching a person’s heart and becoming a part of you, I think. It’s brilliant writing and storytelling. I wouldn’t have had much of a childhood or imagination, if it wasn’t for the Doctor. 🙂

@the-names-jack-jack-harkness – Well…. it depends on personal taste, I think. The older episodes are a lot more slow paced and shorter (I think it’s 30 minutes per episode, unlike the hour long ones with the new Who series), so a lot of times the conclusion to any one story will span four or more episodes. This annoys some of the fans of the reboot series, however I don’t mind it personally. I love a good story in general, so I don’t mind that the older episodes are slow paced at all. I can see how it would feel “boring” to others, especially if one prefers the face-paced wibbly wobbly timey wimey plots of the newer series. You can always check out the older episodes on a site called “Dailymotion”, they have full seasons there for the time being, That way you can judge for yourself if you like the older episodes, before spending money for the DVD collections. 🙂

@monochromedimension – Yes, I did get the feeling that we were going a bit off topic there. I often go off in a tangent, especially about subjects I love so much. Aw, that’s so sad… I know the same thing happened to one of my favorite comedy shows, “Monty Python Flying Circus”… I have to wonder what the BBC was thinking in junking such great shows, ESPECIALLY Doctor Who. That like tossing out the Mona Lisa in a garage sale to me. :O

I’m glad some were found and I hope many more will be! I don’t want to miss any episodes at all.

The regeneration scenes are always the hardest, I think. I do feel your pain about Seventh and when I get to know him better, I’m sure Ill feel that pain as well. I understand, I like the Fifth and Ninth well enough, I respect them much. However, I’m a complete “fangirl” for the Fourth and Tenth. Capaldi may be another, I’ll have to wait and see. And I see something there with the Seventh, even though I’m just getting acquainted with him. So many Doctors… so little time. Sigh…

Ha! Yes, maybe a cravat would do! I’m looking forward to getting to know the First, Second, and Third! And more of the Seventh, Sixth, and… Eight? I’m nervous about Eight. I know of the Fifth pretty well and he’s not bad at all. And yes, I watched every episode of the Eleventh. I wanted to give him a fair chance, because I didn’t like the Tenth at first… I was angry because he replaced the Ninth so quickly and my reaction to him was, “What a cheap trick! They replaced the Doctor with a pretty-boy in order to draw in the female audience!” However, I couldn’t resist after the the “New, new, new, new, new New York.” line and I tried. By the time “Barefoot on the moon”, with the “Judoon Platoon upon the moon”  was uttered, I gave up pretending that I didn’t like the Tenth and confessed that it wasn’t just Rose that caused me to follow the episodes, it was the Doctor. I was hoping it would happen with the Eleventh, but it never did. 🙁

@arbutus – Wow, that’s sounds awful. Before I moved to Minnesota, I lived in Philadelphia (was born there) and they often had “Nor’easter”s, high winds and tons of rain. However, games would be canceled during those times, due to flooding and falling trees. It’s the Nor’easter season right now on the east coast of the US, I’m in the colder part of the country, a thousand miles away, so we have lots of snow instead. I love your post of Katrina And The Waves! That song always gets me moving. 😀

@monochromedimension – This is why I love Doctor Who so much, because it has so many serials, Doctors, and companions to get to know and love… or not love so much. I have plenty to learn and experience within the long history of Who and I can’t help but to feel excited like a little girl over that fact! It feels like Christmas!

Don’t worry, I’m a total fangirl for the Fourth and Tenth, so you’re in good company. It’s a good thing that the Doctor isn’t a “pedobear” type, because if I had the chance I’d run off in a blue police box that travels through space and time with strange men, without a thought! And no offense about the fezzes, I just don’t like hats in general, especially if they’re very silly ones. HOWEVER, I do think the Eleventh looked very nice in a stetson! Stetsons are cool. And I was sad when River shot that one away. LOL!

As for Capaldi’s wardrobe, I’ve heard some fans complain that “something is missing”. I don’t see what could be missing, but they explain that every Doctor has a special accessory that speaks to their personality, which is true. Eleventh had the bow-tie and fez, Tenth had the trainers (the same kind that I love to wear every summer, by the way), Ninth had the leather jacket, Fifth had the decorative celery, and the Fourth had the epic scarf, and so on for all the other Doctors. I’m curious as to what the next Doctor will have, if anything. Or maybe the writers of the show are abandoning the idea? The attire is just a tiny part of it, I believe, so I’m happy with Capaldi if his personality is wonderful. I do believe I’m picky because I’m still looking for the Fourth in every Doctor I meet. None of them could ever be him or vice versa, but I still cling to any trait he may have had in others.

@arbutus  – I completely agree! I think the Fourth Doctor had the best balance of menacing and whimsy. I’m not sure, but I think the first episode that Tom Baker appeared in, he punched out a human in order to escape containment and wonder around a military base to find its secret project? It was a long time since I saw that episode, so I forget… I do remember he started as a real firecracker. Anyway, I agree that he is the master of showing both the dark side of the alien and not just the friendly side. And it’s true that the Ninth never quite made it to showing a more whimsical side, although I like him because he was the “first” to get me excited about the show once again, because I did try *cough* “Torchwood” first and was highly disappointed when I found out it was NOTHING like my childhood show and just a “space brothel” in my view. I am so not a prude, but after searching a season of that for actual story and content among the many scenes of everyone kissing each other, having sex with each other, no one loyal to anyone type of situation, I became a lot disgusted that it was ever connected to Doctor Who in any way. :-p

And yes, the Tenth is LOUD sometimes in his anger and I agree that his menacing was a lot human. Although, I liked it and was afraid of it at the same time. Eleventh was never menacing to me, even when he was meant to be, and that’s why I never really connected with him. He was just too silly and sometimes over-the-top so. I don’t think you’re showing your age at all, I wouldn’t mind more “grown up” conversations in the show and less teen speak that I often have to look up to understand. However, I think we forget that Doctor Who was always meant to be a children’s show, even though more adults seem to love it.

I admit that I’m a “newbie” to the entire series, because I haven’t yet had the pleasure to get to know the Doctors before the Fourth (I’m working on it!). I don’t know why I keep forgetting about the Seventh, as I do love him and enjoyed his serials. I haven’t seen all of them yet (just the first two), but he does have what I like best in the Doctor, that menacing and melancholy aura. I guess I’m showing my true colors here, that I’m attracted to brooding types. LOL! Not too brooding, mind you, but with a very fun and silly side to them. Add mysterious to that and I’ll travel with that Doctor anywhere he wants to go! Maybe I’m just a bit too picky in general. If Capaldi has all three of those qualities as the next Doctor, he will become another favorite of mine right away. He already has my approval for his outfit and age. 😉

One more slight for the Eleventh… I hated his fashion choices. Bow ties are NOT cool and fezzes are even worse! Or that’s my opinion anyway. I never judge a man by his clothing, but that was just one small thing that annoyed me silly about the last Doctor. I cheered when River destroyed the fez, even though it was short lived and he acquired another.

@confusedpolarity – Thank you for the compliment of being “brave”, I love that! Although, I figured it to be “stubbornness” and possibly “social suicide” to admit right out that I never got attached to Eleventh. And yes, it’s the quiet anger that caused me to adore both Ninth and Tenth Doctors. They were a lot silly and goofy like the Eleventh, but often you would catch that glimpse that if you made the Doctor angry enough, he wouldn’t hesitate to destroy you completely. I think Donna Nobel (one of my most favorites of the companions) described it best when she said to the Tenth, “That place was flooded and burning and they were dying, and you stood there like… I don’t know, a stranger. And then you made it snow! I mean you scare me to death.”  That’s the kind of Doctor that fascinates and scares me at the same time. The Eleventh just didn’t have that kind of aura at all, even when the story was written that way around him. A lot of fans didn’t like the Tenth too well, because he did have that kind of cold contempt, they often said he was “too dark”. Although, I enjoyed watching the Tenth go through that phase, as the very first Doctor is said to be a lot mean and unforgiving as well. It’s great that the Doctor is warm and caring, silly and childish, witty and very clever, but his dark side is very much a part of who he is, as well. He is a Time Lord after all and it’s best not to ever forget it. 🙂

So, I’m hoping that Capaldi adds a bit of that to his role! He doesn’t have to add as much as Tennant or Eccleston, but a bit wouldn’t hurt., I think.

I do have some time to spend this weekend (aka: I have no real social life! lol), so I may just plant myself in front of the laptop screen and spend some hours with Hartnell, Troughton and Pertwee. That is if I don’t get distracted and lured away by stupid Youtube videos first.

Yes, @wolfweed , I totally agree! LOL! When I first saw the next Doctor, I felt like a Deja Vu kind of feeling. Then I realized that his style is so similar to the Third Doctor! Unfortunately I haven’t gotten to know the Doctors before the Fourth. I keep meaning to, but every time I watch the retro episodes I start with the Fourth and then move forward. One of these days I’ll stop being so stubborn and check out the First, Second, and Third. After all, there would be no series if it weren’t for those three aliens. :-p
I totally like the new Doctor’s retro style, however. 🙂

@fatmaninabox – Ah, I see that as extremely lucky that you had an American English teacher who is that passionate about British literature. I am American and didn’t have much luck with that! My entire English education was rubbish and I had to learn about all of the great stuff on my own, via internet or relatives, as my school stayed focused on American literature the most. We had Poe and Dickens, but that was it. I’m quite miffed about that, because I enjoy Shakespeare so much, and it’s sad that I had to be introduced to it by a internet search engine called “Ask Jeeves” (before Google ever existed). HOWEVER, if I had to read the LoTR books for a report, I would have gained my first failing mark in class, for sure. I do sympathize!

And you’re right, the tracks aren’t in order of the movies, yet I’m too lazy to edit mine. I don’t think you’re sad at all, just very tenacious, which is a good trait to have.

I also appreciate videos that match scenes with music lyrics. I tried to do one once… it was lame and of the cartoon “Invader Zim” to a repetitive trance song. It was not nearly as clever as this Doctor Who one. 🙂

@janetteb – Yep, my Studio Ghibli favorites are a huge list to itself, as I’ve seen almost every one of their films and loved all of them save for two. My list would be: My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Castle In The Sky, The Cat Returns, Howl’s Moving Castle, My Neighbor’s The Yamadas, Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind, Princess Mononoke, Pom Poko, Spirited Away, Porco Rosso, The Secret World Of Arrietty, and Ponyo On the Cliff By The Sea. Ah… I did watch Grave Of The Fireflies… only ONCE, because at the end of that one I was bawling like a baby! I ran to my mother in tears, after viewing that one! I don’t usually get that affected by films. So, I keep my copy of that at the bottom of a drawer, because even the cover will cause me to tear up. LOL!

@fatmaninabox – I have a confession… I didn’t finish the books either, for the same reasons! My older brother introduced me to the films first and by the time I got to buying the books, I was too impatient with the long winded stuff, wanting to read all of the “good parts” of the films.

I have seen the first “The Hobbit” and I was kind of disappointed by it. I do love the song and scene of “Far Over The Smokey Mountain”, it was my only favorite part of The Hobbit movie. I haven’t seen the second movie yet, so… no spoilers, please. I hope that it’s better than the first. I hear the The Hobbit book is way better and may buy that one.

As for the music… I’m such a nerd and bought all three soundtracks for LoTR. And I listen to them as I write my blogs or books. LOL! I love the music, the story, the characters, the quotes, everything about LoTR. And I wish Lothlórien actually existed, because I would love to live there. I even tried my best to learn Elvish for a year, but then forgot to keep up with it. I may try again someday soon. See, I’m a basket case for LoTR. If it were a religion, I’d so join it! “The Church of Gandalf” sounds very nice. :-p

@whisht – I agree with you. I was also a child of the Fourth, so the cheesier and childish a Doctor is the more I like him. HOWEVER, I didn’t quite like the Eleventh because he was too much over-the-top cheesy. He was just one step away from being “Patch Adams”, which would have been OK in some adventures but in angry situations I had a hard time taking him seriously. For example, when the Ninth was angry, I thought to myself, “Wow… watch out!” and when the Tenth was angry I thought, “Eep! Run and hide!” When the Eleventh was angry, I was confused and often wondering, “Wait… is he angry? Nah, he’s just having a moody day. I think?” Although, I did enjoy his speeches towards angry mobs of warring ships or Daleks. He was goofy, but his words of “bring it on!” sent chills up my spine all the same.

I hope the next Doctor has a good combination of goofiness and seriousness, starkly serious during huge threats in the universe and wacky adventurous during every other time.

Ah… I don’t like Coldplay, but only because they made the statement that they were better than Bono… U2 is my number one band, so I didn’t even bother to listen to any of Coldplay’s songs. However… they cant be all that bad if David Tennant is a huge fan of them. Maybe one day I’ll reconsider, but not anytime soon. Anyway, I didn’t miss your point at all! I never understood the point to flaming, but I’m glad it doesn’t happen here! I left a few Facebook Doctor Who groups, even though I wasn’t the one being flamed a lot of times, but because it was too much seeing others rip each other apart over a show that’s suppose to unite. Or that’s the way I see the show anyway. 😉

@fanboyoffangirls – I felt something similar (or still feel it), when my ex friend left me. I felt like the Tenth Doctor losing Rose. However, as time went on and I stopped romancing the relationship, seeing it for what it truly were, I realized he was more like The Master instead. I am in mourning, because he was the only alien that was so like me, who grew up in the same “home planet” as I did, and then he eccentrically “died”, refusing to join the good side of things, trying to take over the planet as Saxon, and refusing to regenerate. I didn’t want to be alone and I cried over the corpse of our dying friendship.

However,  just like The Doctor, I had to move on, gain new regeneration and companions, keep flying through space and time without him. It’s not easy, I still miss him sometimes, and sometimes I’m very lonely without that similar connection. What is lost is lost, you can’t bring back the dead. And even if you could, that would mean zombie territory, something that you wouldn’t want anyway. It’s best to move on and try your best to rebuild the shards of ones life, without that lost love or friend. That’s what the Eleventh Doctor had to do as well, after the loss of The Ponds. He then found Clara. 🙂

@arbutus Well… I do like older men in general and Peter Capaldi is not a bad looking fellow at all. LOL! Although, I’d have to see him in action first to make my final conclusion. Hey, I’m just glad I haven’t been flamed yet for the Eleventh Doctor comment. I understand why fans love him so much and how protective people can become over their favorites. However, I’m crispy from the flames I’ve gotten before (mainly on Facebook)… some of the flames were from my very own sister. :-p

It’s a touchy subject so I do understand! And yep, I totally respect your view on River. I just miss her is all, but you’re right about her goodbye being very poignant and maybe I should learn to let her go…. like I finally had to do with the Ponds. Gah… now, I’m having Pond-feels again… However, isn’t River Song a lady Timelord? And aren’t Time Lords kind of immortal? I could be totally backwards on that, sorry if I am.

I am looking forward to see how well Peter Capaldi does as the next doctor. I don’t mind that he’s older, because that’s not my main appeal to the show of drooling over Doctors. Besides the Fourth and Tenth, I have weird attractions anyway and the show is more about which Doctor I can relate to personality wise. I hope I won’t be burned in effigy for my confession, but I never gotten attached to the Eleventh. Although, I use his quote of “stupid backwards nonsense” sometimes in my daily conversations, I was not so sad to see him go, like I was for the Ninth and Tenth. I felt angry with the Ninth regeneration and nearly cried for the Tenth. The Eleventh… well, I felt sad for Handles (and The Ponds, of course)! So, I’m ready for the next one.

I’m not so sure about Clara either. I loved her when she first appeared as “Souffle girl” and also as the babysitter, but her character development seemed to halt after that, at least in my opinion. I’m not sure how her relationship with the new Doctor will be, but hopefully she may evolve to a pretty good companion. I can’t wait to see how River Song will react to the new Doctor, I look forward to that! 😀

My first Doctor ever is The Fourth (Tom Baker). I was age six when I stumbled across the show while playing with the remote (because I wasn’t suppose to and my parents didn’t like it, so I waited until they were out of the room to push buttons). I loved the theme song right away and I thought The Fourth was the cutest man I had ever saw! I admit it, I had a crush on him as a little girl. I was much too young to get some of the story context. Even now, I can’t remember specifics of episodes, just flashes of Daleks, clay-mation dinosaurs, and getting upset because I didn’t understand who the Fifth Doctor was and kept waiting the whole series for the Fourth to show up. The whole regeneration thing stumped me as a child, I didn’t really “get it” until after the Fifth regenerated and I realized the Fourth would never return. Although, I had a spaz attack when the Fourth appeared in the 50th’s special.

Anyhoo, a lot of my childhood was spent time traveling within my bedroom closet, as I decided that would be my Tardis. Until that got a little too dark and creepy, so the Tardis became the bathroom instead. I was always traveling with the Fourth, within my tiny imagination, and we ignored the fact that there was a toilet in the middle of the Tardis. I then grew older and forgot about the series… until one of my friends mentioned the reboot and my first reaction was, “No! I don’t want to see it! The Fourth isn’t there! And it probably sucks! Reboots are evil! I don’t want my childhood ruined!” But she insisted that it was good and I should give it a try. I started up again with the Ninth and fell in love with the show all over again. Sadly, my friend lost interest in the show and gives me that “Oh, you’re poor dear… it’s sweet that you’re into that show still.” kind of response. I guess, it’s weird for a 33 year old to spend money on a sonic screwdriver, action figures, shirts, keychains, and so on. I have a huge poster of the Tenth Doctor on my wall (second favorite). Well… I better end my explanation here. I hope it wasn’t “TLDR”, I’m a bit of a shy girl, but once the topic of Doctor Who starts, you can’t shut me up! ;^_^
