@monochromedimension – Ah… I’m a woman with a wondering mind, unfortunately. So, I only gotten to the second serial of the Seventh. It’s the weekend, so I’m sure I’ll settle down and view more of “Paradise Towers” and “Delta and the Bannermen”, thus completing them. Don’t worry, I will be honest and tell you what I think of the Seventh, once I reach the second season. So far, I really do like him. 🙂

As for the topic of romance between companion and Doctor, I have the same opinion as most people here, I’m not crazy over it. I don’t mind if Clara gets a new love interest. In fact, I think I prefer it. I don’t know, it seems to make the story a little too dramatic for me, when the Doctor falls in love or a companion falls in love with him. Even though I loved the subtle love story between Rose and the Ninth/Tenth Doctor, Sarah Jane Smith and the Fourth, this is not the reason why I watch the show. And I wouldn’t mind it if there was another couple on the Tardis, like the Ponds. That’s all I have to add to that. 😉

@monochromedimension – Oh, my reaction to the rock scene with the First Doctor was shock, followed by laughter over the shock and his excuse when he was caught. So, if the scene is shocking (not sure which one you speak of, because I’m still way behind on the Seventh serials, having finished the First, nowhere near checking out the Second and Third Doctors yet) like the First Doctor’s scene, if anything it will make me more curious of that particular regeneration. 😀

And regarding about the regeneration not liking each other, I agree with you and @Arbutus, it does seem like every Doctor have a disdain for another. The Tenth and Eleventh’s “pissing contest” is very hilarious. I don’t know of Fifth or Sixth’s… yet! I’m looking forward to it. I do know of Fifth and Tenth’s meeting, although they seemed to like each other, for obvious reasons. I also think that the Doctor’s disdain and dislike for each regeneration is the same way how we don’t like our own regeneration as well. When I think of my younger self, I growl, “Ugh! What is wrong with you?! What were you thinking?!” And if I somehow met my younger self, I think I would shake her silly. Then again, my future regeneration may feel the same way about the present me. 😉

No, I had an eye appointment and I found out what I knew I would… I have eye surgery due this spring. Crud. So maybe my choices wasn’t all that random, but I’m glad that you’ve enjoyed them. 🙂

@monochromedimension – No need to explain, I think I understand. Before I began to watch the BG episodes now, I seen the Doctor the same way, as different people but part of a whole… like grapes! Each individual, but hanging off the same vine. And now that I’m getting to know the other Doctors, I’m starting to view the reincarnations like kernels of a corn cob, less separate from the whole, even though every kernel is different. Sorry, a weird metaphor! 😛

I must find that episode NOW, before I view anything else. Thanks for giving me the title! 😀

@arbutus – EXACTLY! That’s how I am viewing the Doctor now, more for their similarities than differences. It’s like a whole new perspective to me that I never had before. I think it’s happening because it’s not just three Doctors that I love most anymore… more are sneaking in, because they remind me of the three that I love. Then I realize it’s because the Doctor is one alien in the first place. I do like the First Doctor and I’m falling in love with the Seventh already… so now I can’t help but to see a flash of many faces in my mind, when I think of the Doctor. 🙂

Off topic… are two Daleks going to battle now, the Grammar Dalek and the Topic Dalek? How exciting! I wonder if it will be similar to the Dalek vs. The Cybermen. Haha!

@monochromedimension – You know, the more I am watching the BG serials, the more I’m beginning to not see the Doctor reincarnations as separate, as I’ve done before. Somehow, they all seem like part of the whole now, so I have a new appreciation for all of them… not just my favorites of The Fourth, Ninth, and Tenth. It’s a very interesting show and the most complex one I’ve ever come across in my entire life, that’s for sure! 😀

Oh, don’t worry about bad grammar, I’ve used worse! lol. Hey… what episode is that, with the First,Second, Third, and Fifth Doctors in your gif? I want to see that one! I love Doctor cross-overs!

@bluesqueakpip – As, yes, the “Time Lord Victorious” speech. I think that was a defining moment when the Doctor showed a very human side to himself. From what I gathered, that was not a pure arrogant boast for the sake of it, but a lashing out over the loss of his companions, especially that of Donna Nobel. I don’t want to leave spoilers, but I understand that outburst to be that of falling into depths of grief over his losses. I think and believe that, because of what he said to Wilfred Mott, in the cafe, about how he missed Donna and how she kept him from losing his way… hinting that he was remorseful for that whole speech and actions in “Waters Of Mars”.

I think that’s why I do like the Tenth, because he did show more of a human side than the alien one at times, which made him a lot relatable. At least in my view, anyway. I’ve lost people in my life as well… and I did behave like a huge butt over it, then felt remorse for it later, apologized to the people I had lashed out at, and moved on. It was interesting to see the Doctor go through the same thing, although… because he’s the Doctor and a Time Lord, it was a lot more threatening and disturbing than what I could ever do.

And bouncing back to the other topics, I guess in this very moment I realize that my want for the Doctor to be more dark or “alien” is maybe wishing for too much… as several times the writers seem to slip to more human characteristics for the Doctor. I’m not sure if it’s on purpose or subconsciously, but now I do realize that it’s the more human parts of the Doctor that draws me closer to the character more than anything else. I take back what I said before about the next Doctor should be more serious than the Eleventh! If it’s part of him to be silly, then I accept it. If he’s serious, I accept. If he’s arrogant, I accept. If he’s humanistic at times, I accept, And if he’s manipulative, I’ll accept that too. Because after all I am human, the writers are human, and these are emotes of humans.

Sorry for the rant… it’s past 6am here and I haven’t had my coffee yet. LOL! 😛

@monochromedimension – Oh, I see. I will continue to watch the episodes in linear then. However, it will be a while before I reach Ghost Light. And I’ve heard of Ace before, but don’t know that companion yet. I’m looking forward to it. 🙂

As for the topic of manipulation, I agree with you and @devilishrobby, I think all the Doctors have a dark side to them… no Star Wars reference intended. I, er, am not a fan of Star Wars (ducking from rotten tomatoes!). It’s just that I don’t know too much of that series, because as a kid it couldn’t hold my interests long enough and as an adult I made the mistake of watching the one with Jar Jar Binks. So, that kind of killed all interest in the franchise for me. :-p

Back to topic, I don’t mind the darker sides to the Doctor and accept him for who he is, in general. It’s just the idea of “manipulative” or the word, that makes me a lot nervous. Like the serial killer in “The Following” is manipulative. Ugh. However, I understand what you two mean, by the Doctor using others for his means sometimes. I also don’t understand when people say that the Tenth is arrogant, when every Doctor have been so, as far as I can see. It’s a Time Lord thing, me thinks. 😉

@mattwholigan – That’s a very creepy head! I LOVE Tom Baker, yet I wouldn’t be able to sleep with that in my house. Therefore, I like it! lol.

Speaking of cardboard cutouts, I would love the Tenth Doctor one! Although, I wouldn’t destroy cutouts of any Doctors, like JonTron: JonTron:Terror
This may sound weird, but I felt like I was witnessing a real murder when he chopped up the Eleventh Doctor cutout. Yikes! :O

@monochromedimension – Hmm… I don’t think I like the idea of “manipulative”, unless it’s the Doctor thinking of something very clever and defeating the bad guys with his brain. I love it when he does that, in any regeneration of his. 🙂

Then again, I guess every Doctor goes through his “dark side” and have to overcome it. There were plenty of times the Doctor disappointed me or shocked me. I’m still thinking of the First and the rock scene! lol. But also the Tenth in many bad moments. Then they overcame it, learned from it, and became a better man… or alien.

Anyway, now I’m very curious about Ghost Light! I love a puzzle… ah, but I’m still on serial “Paradise Towers”. Will I miss too much if I skip ahead? I don’t want that episode to be more confusing than it has to be. 😛

I do know that Rani is a lady time lord, but somehow thought that Mel was too. I guess it would be too much to have three lady time lords in one episode.  I still like Mel regardless, she reminds me a little of Rose. 🙂

@monochromedimension – Okay… so, yesterday I watched the first serial of the Seventh. Oh, my god! It was the best episodes I’ve enjoyed since the Fourth! From what I could figure, Mel is a lady time lord that is from Earth? Much like River Song? I like her character, although her screaming hurts my ears. I hope she doesn’t do too much of it. 😛

And it’s confirmed, I love the Seventh Doctor! He’s very cool. 🙂

Sorry, I keep saying I will watch it and then get distracted. Today it was AmazingPhil on Youtube (I have a fangirl crush on him…ahem). Anyway, I only saw one episode of the Seventh. It was one where it had the actor Joseph Marcell, who played as Geoffrey The Butler on a show called “The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air”. I was curious to see the episode and watched the whole thing, some years back. I liked the Seventh doctor and gleamed that he would be a lot of fun in general. However, I want to check out his other serials to be sure. I’ll do that now. 🙂

@arbutus – Cool, I never been to Seattle, but have a friend who lives there. Anyway, my pals in the UK often mistake the map of my country, which I can understand why, because it’s so very huge! I don’t know why half of the US makes complaints about immigrants, as we are not nearly close to being overpopulated and there’s plenty of land for EVERYONE to inhabit. A survey was done, that if every abandoned house in the US was repaired and given away to the homeless, every homeless person would own two houses! I don’t understand my country sometimes. Apart from greed and garden variety bigotry, there’s no reason why the US couldn’t do that to solve the issue of homelessness. Ahem, moving on… I’ve had to explain to my British pals a few times that when I lived in Philadelphia I was not just a few minutes away from Canada. I am NOW, since living in Minnesota! I don’t fault them for it though, as I’m dense about the geography of the UK. I wish to live there someday (when I become a famous writer… a girl can dream!) and most likely I would become lost wandering around… a lot. 😛

@arbutus – No, not Pittsburgh, Philadelphia! Pittsburgh is another city within the state of Pennsylvania, I lived in the city of Philadelphia which is four hours apart and is on the edge of the state, close to New York and Maryland. It’s confusing to many, because every state have so many different metropolitan cities within it. Pennsylvania has over fifty cities within it, not including the “townships” and “boroughs”, and it’s not even the biggest state in the country by far. I’m not bragging, I just miss my state sometimes… then I remember why I left it in the first place. lol.

Anyway, I love the song! It did remind me of home. 🙂

@monochromedimension – Yes, that’s true, Daleks have not exterminated anyone in a long while in the new Who, however there’s always the worry that they might! Anyway, yes I will be starting with the seventh really soon and I’ll let you know what I think of him. 🙂

As for the convention here, I did look it up… and I’m not sure if I want to go or not. It’s a bit expensive ($60 for early tickets, $75 for at-door fee) and the guests are companions that I haven’t gotten to know yet from the old episodes and authors who wrote a Doctor Who book. I guess it would be nice to meet fellow Whovians in the area, however that price… eh.

@scaryb – Yes, the Doctor tends to name-drop musical talent, although only a few Doctors actually prove it. Not that I’m doubting the Doctor! However, besides the few Doctors who actually played instruments on the show, I have no clue how far the Doctor’s musical talents reach. For all we know, he could be a master at every instrument within a orchestra. Somehow… that wouldn’t surprise me if that were true. 😉

@arbutus – Yes, that’s true! The standard for the northern states to close public schools is two feet of snow. As a teen in my old city, I would always hope for two feet of snow, because otherwise I had to walk to school in one and a half feet, while in my school uniform… which was a skirt! Yikes! And sometime I had to just mush to school in the snow that way. My school was very mean about this, if you didn’t wear the uniform you got detention. They allowed the girls to come in wearing pants, but you had exactly five minutes to change into the uniform, before the first bell. And if you were late to class, you earned detention. The bathrooms would be too full of girls rushing to change into their skirts and I would wind up late to class by the time I was able to get in there to change. I got detention too many times for being late, so I began wearing my uniform through the snow. And I was often sick, come to think of it. Yes, high-school sucked! LOL!

Back to topic… I read about the previous DW conventions in Minnesota and it sounds awesome! The one this year seems like, “eh… I don’t know.” If Colin Baker or any of the Doctors were there, I would definitely pay the fee and show up. I was I was born earlier! 😛

@bluesqueakpip – I’m actually in a cityin Minnesota called “Bloomington”. which is fifteen minutes away from Minneapolis. I live in the quiet suburbs and it’s very peaceful here. And yes, there is always a possible chance of a tornado in Minnesota. Every Wednesday they set off the emergency sirens for tornado warnings, just for testing. I haven’t experienced a tornado yet, however in Philadelphia I did live through a massive hurricane (which passed directly through the city and left it unharmed by some unknown miracle, but did a horrible number on our neighbors, New Jersey and New York) and a small-scale earthquake that freaked out everyone one summer. I’m not frighten by a tornado at all, after all that. Ha! Yes, I told my friends that everyone is nice in Minnesota because it’s way too cold here to keep coldness in one’s heart. We have the stay warm as best as we can together, so we might as well start inwardly with our attitudes. Or that’s my guess anyway. 😉

I have never been to Chicago, but I’ve heard the same thing, that the people there are very nice. I wonder if their weather is the same or worse than Minnesota. Hmm… Yes, it’s the same situation where it takes a while to “rug up” (I love that phrase, by the way!) before leaving a warm house and venturing out there into arctic weather and then removing everything once I reached my destination. I get comments on my “serious boots”, as they’re tall ones with many laces, water-proofed, and made for hiking snowy mountains pretty much. Minnesotans think they’re awesome and weird (as in “overkill”) at the same time… even though there is A LOT of snow and those boots kept me from having soggy wet socks like everyone else. AND the traction on the boots has kept me from slipping and falling down on the ice, where my flatmates and others were not so lucky. The shop owners here aren’t keen in salting the parking lots, so it’s basically parking your car on a ice skating rink and then trying to skate-walk to the actual building. I bought the boots in Philadelphia, which normally don’t see as much snow and ice like in Minnesota, so I believe they were made for this town specifically. I do love Minnesota and wish I could stay here, but the cold is a little too much for me… and I miss my mother.

And… I guess it doesn’t help that I have a cigarette habit and must go outside to smoke. It was fine in the summer and autumn here, but this winter I find myself in minus degree weather, with my knees knocking together, trying to finish a smoke. Then I wonder to myself, “What the hell am I doing?! This is nuts!” I am trying to quit the habit for sure now. 😛

@whisht – Ha! No, you’re correct, the song is globally themed. The whole theme of the game is that it’s to include everyone from all walks of life and countries. The game’s story is left up to the player to interpret for themselves and the characters are blank creatures, that are not define by race or gender, so it’s universal to every player to connect with. So, the scoring has a lot of eastern themes to it in general. The song for the credits is sung in a combination of languages: French, Latin, Greek and Japanese.

My personal take on the story of this game is that it’s a story of being born, the stages of life through childhood to elderly, death and heaven, and then rebirth of a soul though reincarnation (or regeneration. lol). I cry at the end of this game, every time, like a silly person! Every person who experiences the game have a different interpretation to it, no one is wrong in their theory, because the creator of the game planned it to be that way for everyone to take away from it what is personal to them. I love the entire soundtrack, because it’s so very beautifully done, which you don’t see often within video games! 🙂

@arbutus – Yes, Minnesotans are very nice and kind indeed! I’m sure there are some cranky and rude people here, like anywhere else in the world, but I have to honestly say that this is my first time in my life that I’ve met mostly nice people in one town. In Philadelphia, they rather spit on you than to smile and say hello. And the ones who do smile and say hello, you have to be wary that they’re not trying to scam you in some type of way. Philadelphians are a little more rude than New Yorkers, I dare to say. So, when I first got to Minnesota I was a lot nervous when people smiled towards me and said hello… and wanted to have small talk just for the sake of it! My hometown has it’s great points: the buildings, the culture, the artistic events, not to mention all of the cool celebrities that originated from there. However, the people leave much to desire. Or maybe it was me who had the bad luck of running into horrible people all of 32 years in that city? It’s possible. 😛

@ScoutTheAiredale – That’s also correct! There are many ways to say “Maryland” because every state has it’s own accent. So depending on where you live in the US, the name will be pronounced differently. The natives of the state pronounce it more like the name “Marilyn.” It just depends on which part of the country you grow up in. 🙂

LOL! Yes, that is not an exaggeration about the clothing! It gets so very brutally cold here! I use to complain in my old hometown winters, “Ugh… it’s 30F today! It’s so cold!” Now that’s I’m living through a winter in Minnesota, I have a new definition of what “cold” is! I’ve been out in minus 25F, with a face that looked like a spanked baby, and screaming “How do people live in this weather?!! Ahh!!!” And everyone else seem to be polar bears here, not really phased by it, moving just fine in the snow and finding it strange that I’m walking like a shuddering plank all the time. I love this town, but I don’t think I’ll survive another winter here, so I’ll move to Maryland where it’s warmer. 😀

Yes, I love this forum very much, I never thought that classical music and other creativity would be discussed here! I usually go into these forums and mention Chopin and I instantly get a groan in response and attitude of, “Oh, come off it! You’re trying to be ‘fancy’ now, no one likes classical music!” It’s so nice that everyone is not obsessed with being “cool” or “ironic” here, so I can relax and enjoy the many wonderful things that everyone has to share for once. This is a nice slice of heaven here, this forum. 😉

Oh, you are correct! That’s how to say Maryland. I have never been to Maryland yet, but it’s where my mother grew up and plan to retire. I am going to meet with her there and take care of her during her elder years. And I’m not too proud to admit that my mother and I are friends, so I look forward to it! I’m actually from Philadelphia, born and raised there, but needed to get away from the city for a while… to clear my mind and write in peace, so I moved to Minnesota, six months ago. It’s a lot wonderful here, the people are very kind, and my only complaint is that it’s so VERY cold here! I’m use to warmer weather on the east coast, not minus below temps. I think that’s one of the differences between Maryland and Minnesota, the different weather. And different accents… Minnesotans have an accent that’s very close to the Canadian one, Maryland has the more southern accent.

@arbutus – It’s the same for me, I don’t have the reach for the big chords. Also, I can never get the timing right with many of Chopin’s rhythms. However, I did enjoy trying… until my family had to sell the piano. I too grew up in a family that was rather poor during my childhood… we owned an old “station wagon” for a vehicle… before that was sold off later, before the piano. And I’m still “poor” as an adult! Although, I’ve found that money doesn’t bring happiness at all (I once had a lot of it… and it bought me so much bad luck and drama!), so I embrace my bohemian lifestyle proudly. 🙂

@supervannah10 – I LOVE Danna! She’s my favorite companion of the new series, the Ponds are second. I think I love Donna because the two actors, Catherine Tate and David Tennant works very well together. Even in their interviews, it’s just a lot of fun to watch those two together. I do have two Doctor Who action figures… it’s the Tenth Doctor and Donna. It cost me so much money to get, a month’s wages, but worth it! After I’m done moving around the US (I have an upcoming move from Minnesota to Maryland this summer), I plan to waste money again and buy more action figures of the older Doctors and companions. I already have K-9 and a couple of Daleks. The biggest goal is to purchase the Tardis playset. I’m a total fangirl… sigh…

Wow… Marc-André  Hamelin  is incredibly talented! I did enjoy his performance very much! The odd thing is, I have the whole collection of Chopin’s works from iTunes (so weird that is, having music that way before the age of mp3’s and i-Pods. I’d wonder what Frederic would say if he knew the future generations listen to his compositions in Mp3 format and on tiny devices). Anyway, I listen to it while writing my books or whenever it’s a rainy day… I feel like I’m “clever” whenever I listen to “Raindrop” during a rainstorm. An as a teen, I played the piano and attempted “Prelude In E Minor, Op.28, No.4”, however not very well… I was an amateur at best. Yes, I’m such a groupie of Chopin and he’s my musical inspiration… besides U2. 😛

I also loved the other piece of Marc Andre Hamlin that you’ve shared! I couldn’t hear well what he was saying to the audience, but I enjoyed the music piece! He’s very talented!

Now, I must add my favorite Chopin piece:

I don’t know why I love waltzes so much, but I do! And I love this one, because it’s so serious at the start, then it’s playful, then serious…with a spark of playfulness. Just like the Doctor’s personality, I think. 🙂

@ScoutTheAiredale – No, I’m afraid I’m not cool as all of that… my username is because I like “fairies” and the old spelling of that word, “faeries” And the “grl”… because I’m a girl. LOL! It’s not very original at all, but it’s the username I choose when I can’t think of anything clever and REALLY want to sign up for a site immediately. I have a few accounts elsewhere with the same screen-handle. I’m not sure if I can claim this as “art”, but I’m a huge fan of the game called “The Sims” and of course I’ve used replicas of the Tardis in my game. Now, the Tardis console was not created by me, but another fan. However, I’m the one who created the best Tenth Doctor I could with the program and I put together the outside of the Tardis myself… one side is missing, as it goes into the building to create an illusion of a huge ship inside, which the Sim can only get to by walking through the doors of the Tardis. 🙂

AND… an explanation to my avatar here… it’s me as a Sim, in front of the background scene of The Medusa Cascade! I think the tear in the fabric of space and time is very pretty, in general.

I also have a Doctor Who ring-tone for my phone, but it’s the theme of the Eleventh Doctor, “I’m The Doctor”. No one understands it, except for my sister who gasps and scream out, “The Doctor is calling you!”, every time I get a call. 😉

#Whilst – Hipsters… oh, no no no… I run from them in general, because they always make me feel bad with their attitude of, “I was into that before it was cool to be.” Ugh. I’m always “late” to the good stuff, so I cannot win! I think I should get points for finding out about the fun and cool things in life at all, being that I’m often in la-la land and it’s an effort for me to look up and pay attention to what’s going on around me in the first place. 😛

@monochromedimension – On a philosophical thought, I think I appreciate the different incarnations as I see them as different parts of the same man.. erm, alien. Every Doctor is different, but part of the same whole. It’s a lot of fun to meet the new Doctors and get to know another side of the Doctor all over again. And I can relate in a way… my entire life has been nothing but a series of regeneration. The persons I was before is way different than who I am today. And the future me will be way different than who I am in the present, I believe. So I look forward to meeting the Seventh better, the Second, Third, Sixth, and even Eight. I’m already enjoying the First, even though I haven’t gotten to his softer side yet.

Oh, I don’t mind spoilers, by the way. It motivates me to check out more episodes, to see what the fuss is all about for myself. And don’t worry, if I can accept the First after the rock scene, I’m sure the Sixth is safe. And the Tenth made a lot of scary moves himself, his little breakdown after Donna left, where he claimed to be “god” for a moment there and broke the rules of a fixed timeline. :O

@monochromedimension – Yes, spoons is an instrument, as far as I’m concerned! They were very big in the 80’s here, but faded away from some unknown reason. The newer generation are into playing the cups: You’re Gonna Miss Me. I do wonder what other musical talents the Doctors have. I do know about the Second’s recorder! I’m just learning about the Seventh spoons and had no idea about the Fifth playing the harp! I look forward to that! 😀

A very interesting read, about the history of this tradition. It reminds me a little of the Philadelphian tradition of “The Mummers Parade”, but much more as the panto has a orchestra! @ScoutTheAiredale – Yes, I was having a very silly morning and the song popped into my head, and then I danced to the kitchen for breakfast while chanting, “Joff-tchoff- tchoffo-tchoffo-tchoff!” Thus I posted it here… after listening to it five times first. I am not aware of the British pronto tradition, however I shall look into it, because I LOVE learning about new cultures and traditions… and as an American I do proudly admit that I’m somewhat of a “anglophile”. 😉

@monochromedimension – Well, I loved the Tenth and he was completely egotistical at times. I’ll never forget his line toward a group of frighten passengers who demanded to know why he should be in charge of saving them, “Because I’m clever!” It was shocking and rude, but I thought it was cute all the same. So, I think I will love the Sixth Doctor very much. I love the colorful coat too… it reminds me of the Fourth’s scarf, somehow… that kind of childish color scheme. And that’s one of my favorite quotes of the Fourth, “Well, of course I’m being childish! There’s no point being grown-up if you can’t be childish sometimes!” 🙂
