@purofilion – If I’m dramatic, I’d say there are as many covers of Hallelujah, as there are stars in the cosmos. However, I want to point out that I am not a religious person whatsoever, I’m more “scientific” than anything else, but this song is very beautiful regardless. No matter which cover it is in! I must check out the Bon Jovi one next. 🙂

And since this is a music forum, I should add a song. I kind of ran out of good covers though, except this one that’s just okay:

PS – Off topic rant… for some reason, when I try to @ people, I get this color html code within it. Not sure why it’s doing that, but I have to edit my post so people can receive my shouts. What am I doing wrong? :O

@arbutus – Oh yes! I so agree with you, that song is WAY overused everywhere! lol. I see what you mean about it, completely. If I didn’t like the song so much, I’d be sick of it too. 😉

@purofilion – Coolies! I don’t know why I like the song so much, it is rather simple, but I do.  I wouldn’t mind it played at my wedding, if I ever get married someday.

@whisht – No problem! I didn’t know of AdBlocker myself, until my very IT sister told me of it early last year. I find the ads of YT way too much and too many. I remember the site before they had ads, but when they merged with Google, it exploded with as many ads as Hulu. Ir’s too annoying! lol. I don’t only go for YT for music, but for social v-bloggers, news clips, gaming videos, and sometimes old movies that isn’t found on either Netflix or Amazon. So, I cheat and skip the ads!

And Happy Easter to everyone, if you celebrate it. I’m spending mine in lazy video games, no egg dyeing for me!

@craig – Love the Stevie Wonder one, by the way. He’s my second go-to for all things funk, especially “Superstition” 🙂

@arbutus – Aw… I love that one, “I Just Called To Say I Love You”. It was my first Stevie Wonder song as a kid and still brings back fun memories. And now I’m swaying to the song, had to look it up on YT. lol.  Well, each to his or her own, I always say! 🙂

@<span style=”color: #000000;”>Arbutus  – I agree! I will admit that I’m not a fan of country music… except for Mr. Cash, him and him only. I can’t help but to respect the man and his emotions within his songs is something relatable to the younger crowd today, I believe. And yes, it’s never good for a musician to simply copy or try their best to imitate a good song, they should make it their own… that is, if they want it to be any good. That was great advice that you gave your son for sure. :-)</span>

Hey… did we break the other music thread with too much music??? I’m giggling like a mad woman now.

@whisht – The best way to avoid ads on YT is Adblocker! The ads on YT drove me crazy, so Adblocker is so appreciated. You can download it free for any browser you use. I use Chrome, so I got the add-on here: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/adblock/gighmmpiobklfepjocnamgkkbiglidom</span>

As for the cover, yes I like a few of the old band named Kansas, although I love the dirty guitars of the cover more so. AND violin! You can’t go wrong with adding that instrument to any cover song. 🙂

@craig – LOL! Yes! I can’t stop laughing at Richard Cheese’s covers! I’m a huge Nirvana fan, but I love this one all the same. It gives me a giggle every time. 😉

@phaseshift – Wow, I was not aware of the DW Confidential with “Hurt”. Thanks for sharing that one and it’s very fitting to the Eleventh Doctor, I think. 🙂

Hmm… I need to find more episodes of DW Confidential, as I was unaware of that show completely. I get my new episodes of Doctor Who from Amazon and that’s about it. Rarely do they include specials with their downloads. Anyway, here’s another song. It’s an old one and a bit moody, but it’s raining here today and it’s on my mind. Maybe next time I’ll have a happier tune. 😉

@Whihst – Ah, I like to apologies if I repost things, because it’s due to my laziness of not browsing first to see if someone else have posted it before me. lol. As for the track gaining views that it deserves, it was an internet hit, generating over a million views within the first days of being posted. The last I’ve seen, it’s now past three million, which is impressive for such a song. I just felt like sharing it with you guys as well, but wasn’t sure if you’ve seen it or not already. And thanks again for your thoughtful welcome back! I’ll try not to disappear too much, it’s a bad habit of mine with forums. 😉

@arbutus – Speaking of cover tunes, I completely agree with you on that. There’s one song that was originally done by the metal band named “Nine Inch Nails” but was covered by the country singer Johnny Cash before he died. I like the cover of this song a lot better and the original band of the song has claimed they will no longer perform the song because Mr. Cash did such a good job on it, better than they could give it justice. This is the song:

@whisht – Thanks for the warm welcome back! And yes, this would be the sixtieth novel I’ve written so far, but only the second one I’ve considered publishing. I’m a lot shy in sharing my work with others in general and lose confidence fast in taking that leap. However, his last novel I feel that I MUST publish because I put my heart and soul into it, with a tribute to the people I’ve lost in recent years within my family. It’s a sci-fi adventure with a real world message about lost and grief of a loved one, the end message that we are just space dust in the massive scale of the universe. Now I must do the daunting task of editing, which is never too much fun. Writing is easy, editing is hell. lol.

@arbutus – I very much respect you as a fellow writer! That’s way too cool and I’m the same way… I’ve been writing novels since age six, however I only self-published one. For the sake of conversation and not advertisement, this is the book I had felt confident enough to finally publish: True Shadows

It didn’t do too well on the market, which was disappointing, but it hasn’t halted my writing in the least. I wrote a six novel teen series, one crime thriller, and now this sci-fi novel afterwards. My advice to any writer is: Never stop writing! 🙂

    @whisht – I like your ninja remix, it’s pretty cool. 🙂

I’ve been away into many different kinds of music, however I shall share a silly one. Although, I think it’s pretty impressive. My apologies if you guys have seen this one already:

I’m not really a Katy Perry fan, but I’m a fan of many of the artists featured: Nirvana, Queen, Micheal Jackson, ‘N Sync (a guilty pleasure of my teen years), Iron Maiden, Frank Sinatra, Metallica, Pavarotti, The Doors (whoo!), Red Hot Chili Peppers, Boys II Men (teen years), Type O Negative, and John Mayer. This is a perfect example that it’s not always the lyrics or musical notes that makes a good song, it’s the style in which it’s presented. 😉

Hi everyone. It’s been a while since I’ve been here, I didn’t mean to disappear for so long… life just got caught up with me a bit. And I finished writing a science fiction novel that I plan to publish later this year. I’m doing well, but haven’t had a moment to finish my classic Who viewing list yet. I’m a procrastinator!

I hope everyone is well. I shall post a little in the music section and then probably fade off again. Take care. 🙂

@arbutus, –  Hahaha! “Proudly from the rocking chair”… too funny! I’m not normally into pop musics, besides the occasional Lady Gaga, but with my young roommates, I heard this one and couldn’t pass it up. It’s very pretty in sound and lyrics. Yes, that’s my complaint too with women in pop music, that they sound too much the same, and the lyrics are too much the same as well. However, this one is distinctive, I agree. 🙂

@purofilion – Congrats on your first sky-dive! I wish to do so someday, very soon! It’s been a lifelong dream of mine, to be honest. I’ll come back later with a tribute song for your success. 😉

Thanks, @monochromedimension and @confusedpolarity . I am feeling a lot better now, just a few sniffles. The issues is I went out into the deep snow and cold of Minnesota on Friday, to meet my hair appointment. By the time I came back home, my boots were completely soaked and I was frozen, thus getting hit with a nasty cold. However, the good news is that colds only last for a few days for me. The bad news is I didn’t get a chance to watch any more Who yesterday, as I went back to sleep in my warm bed.

Oh, I’m so sorry ConfrusedPolrity and @fatmaninabox! Colds are terrible and highly inconvenient, aren’t they? I have plenty of tissues to share, but no throat sweets. I usually do carry them, just in case, but forgot to stock up on more since last winter. Oops!

Welcome back, @purofilion, by the way! I hope you’re doing well. 😀

    @ScaryB- No problem. 🙂

And @arbutus, that rack was actually in a film called “Into The Wild”, which is a true story account of a young man named Christopher McCandless, who decided to live in the wilderness after uni, to break free of society. It’s a bitter-sweet movie and I highly recommend it. It ends with his very poignant message of, “Happiness is only real when shared.”

And here’s a pretty pop song for today:

I do want to someday, as I heard it has more story about the Doctor and The Medusa Cascade. And yes, this is my day to settle down and watch more of the Seventh Doctor! Hooray! 🙂

@devilishrobby – With all of the comments about how terribly manipulative the Second Doctor is, I do wonder if the gist is I shouldn’t like him or I should? I’m pretty sure that his Doctor has a dark side and trickster side, like every Doctor do. Even so, it hasn’t changed my impression that the Tenth is a good alien and very charming, lots of fun, in spite of his darkness with The Family, Timelord Victorious, and that moment on the tram when he shouted, “Because I’m clever!”. I suspect that my impression of the Second being very sweet, will not change either. I could be wrong, but I can’t say for sure yet… I haven’t watched one of his serials yet. 😉

@monochromedimension – Yes, my impression of the Second Doctor is that he has more of a sensitive soul, more so than the rest of the Doctor. Of course, they all care, but somehow I get the feeling that the Second Doctor have less… erm, “temper tantrums” than any of the others. That’s very interesting that Family Of Blood was originally written for the Seventh! I’m sorry that the show was canceled before McCoy got a chance to play it. It did seem to fit in well with Tennant’s Doctor, as he was slipping into a darker pattern, after the loss of Rose. A lot of fans were complaining about that, because before Rose disappeared he was very silly, upbeat, and never did anything untoward. However, I enjoyed that arch, because it made him seem almost human.

@tomsscarf – Yes, I kind of got that impression Third Doctor as well, when I view “The Five Doctors” earlier this week. I’m not sure if I’ll like him, but I want to give every Doctor a fair chance. I can tell from the short episode that I will like the Second one, from the start. It’s possible that my opinion may change, but I can’t guess that now without experience first. And yes, I absolutely ADORE the Tenth Doctor, however he had his very dark and cruel moments, especially with his chilling punishment of “The Family”. I think that was the first time I realized that even though the Doctor is usually very light, clever, charming, witty, and all of that good stuff, one doesn’t want to cross him… EVER. 🙁

Oh and regarding your earlier comment about the role of the Doctor being one of the hardest to play for actors, I do agree with you on that completely! I believe that David Tennant would have continued to play the Doctor as long as possible, and like his last words as the Tenth “I don’t want to go!”, the actor didn’t seem to ever want to leave that role, if he had his way. I imagine that on his last day, he may have been holding onto pieces of the set and screaming out, “Noooo!” until someone escorted him out. Then again, I have a very silly imagination. He really did love the show, the cast, the writers, and the crew very much.

In an interview, he was asked if he had to be convinced to show up for the Christmas special and he replied that he was a “cheap whore” and would show up for anything. I love that! 😀

@scaryb – Okay… I won’t be fooled then. Although, I doubt I would be, as every Doctor has their dark side… maybe not Eleventh so much, which is perhaps why I didn’t relate to him too well. Either way, I think all of the regeneration of Doctor’s I’ve experienced thus far are awesome. And my first impressions of the Second is that he’s very sweet.  😉

@tomsscarf  and @monochromedimension – Thank you so very much for the suggestions! I will put those episodes on my viewing list for this weekend. And yes, that’s my impression of the Second Doctor, that he’s very sweet, which I know I will love. And I suspect that he’s the very Doctor that my grandmother and great grand enjoyed the most. 🙂

@missshannonkent – As for the topic of Capaldi, I hope to see him in a few seasons before a regeneration first. I hope he doesn’t get replaced too soon. I haven’t recovered fully from the short season of the Ninth! I wanted to see more of him and I’m use to Doctors having a long run of the show in general. So, I can’t force my mind to think of a replacement yet, it’s way too soon… Capaldi didn’t get in yet.

@monochromedimension – Wow! I’m just a half of inch taller than the Seventh! lol. Yes, “The Five Doctors” was the only episode that I seen the Second and Third together. They’re bickering is hilarious, I agree. I look forward to finding more crossover someday soon. I have to take them one weekend at a time, as time is too sparse for me during the week. 😉

But my opinion of the Seventh is that I adore him, so far. And of the Second, I haven’t seen any of his serials yet but I can tell that I will like him already. I’m not sure about the Third Doctor yet. I do like the First Doctor. I’m a long time fan of Fourth and the Fifth is okay. The Ninth was fantastic, I’m a fangrl of the Tenth, and the Eleventh I never connected with but he wasn’t bad. Now… I have to meet more of Sixth and Eight Doctors, I barely know them at all. So many episodes to catch up with, so little time!

@monochromedimension – Yeah, I do understand, the scenery there is beautiful. It’s true of a lot of states, but the politics and laws there is enough to drive anyone crazy. Arizona is a bit too occupied with race and sexual orientation right now, denying rights to many and making crazy laws to enforce their bigotry. Of course, not all citizens there agree with it and fight against it, but it would make for a very hostile place to live in right now. 🙁

And yes, I so love the Seventh! Is he really the shortest? I thought the Second Doctor was, because of the comments he got in “The Five Doctors” special. and it was funny when he called the Third Doctor, “fancy pants”.

@tomsscarf – Yikes, that’s why I had my earlier rant, because I so hope that I’m not causing an “international incident” here, with the “nerdy” comment. Again, I wish I could go back in time and not mention it in the first place, because I didn’t mean it as a judgement to fans of Doctor Who. I don’t even share the idea that people who enjoy Science Fiction shows are “nerds”, no matter if it’s Doctor Who or any other sci-fi show, although “Trekkies” (fans of Star Trek) proudly say that they are nerdy and get angry if you don’t address them as so. I mentioned that in America, people label any love for something that’s intelligent and witty in the subject of science, maths, or technology as “nerdy”, yet I don’t particularly have the same view. I’m nerdy, not because of my love for Doctor Who, not at all. I’m nerdy because I love science (especially Quantum Physics, Cosmology, and Forensic Science), so if my peers want to add my love of Doctor Who to that list (which they do, because Science Fiction seems to be lumped in with the term in the US as well), I don’t mind it! I’m nerdy anyway, so I may as well have something “fun and awesome” on the list than “boring old Quantum Physics”. And no offense meant to any Physicists here, if any! However, that’s not to say that I believe anyone on this forum is “nerdy” for enjoying the show, unless they want and appreciate that label, like me and Monochrome. I’m sorry and in the future I will be more careful with dropping titles. I forget what’s acceptable and is a compliment to me may not be so for everyone. 🙂

@monochromedimension – Ack… skip Arizona, completely, you wouldn’t like it there. lol. Just some friendly advice! And yes, most people from the UK love Florida for some reason. I never been to Florida yet… just a few states in my country: Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and now currently in Minnesota.  😉

Back on topic, I was very shocked with the reviews and complaints on Netflix! I laughed, but then felt so very badl, because it was completely ridiculous! It’s a British show, so of course the actors have British accents! I had so many face-palm moments, reading the reviews. I would think they were “trolls”, but that’s a lot of trouble to pay for membership just to write crazy reviews for shows.

Hmm… I don’t find Seventh’s serials odd at all, not yet anyway. I love them all so far. I especially enjoyed “Paradise Towers”. Congrats on the tie! And I do love the sweater, it seems to suit you very well. 🙂

@monochromedimension – Oh, I know. I’m sorry… I didn’t mean to vent to you specifically. I’m just a tad annoyed and frustrated with myself for mentioned the term “nerdy” in the first place, because I see a theme appearing here now of mentioning “nerdy” before everything, which was never my intent at all. Honestly, it’s not considered an insult here, at least for my generation and older. That’s why I had mentioned it as a contrast from what others mentioned about DW being a “guy thing”, because no such experience in the US, only the “nerdy” comment sometimes and not even said in a real insulting way. I was really asking, “Is it true that people in the UK have a gender divide over DW? It’s the first I heard of it. Interesting… we only have the nerd vs. cool thing here.”

Regarding wanting to live in the US.. really??? Ha! I often feel like I was born in the wrong country and wish I was born in the UK instead. Especially when I see reviews on the Netflix for DW that goes like: “Netflix, please make subtitles available for this show! Because, the actors, they’re foreign and don’t speak English correctly.” WHAT??? And there’s a lot of one-star ratings for the show for reasons of, “They sound too British! I couldn’t understand what they were saying!” I weep for my countrymen sometimes. 🙁

Nope, I haven’t finished the rest of the season yet I made it to Dragonfire! I plan to catch up on more this weekend, which is my best times to watch several episodes in one sitting. I can’t wait for Remembrance Of The Daleks!

@tomsscarf – Hi there and welcome to the forum! I completely agree with you, nerds don’t force their opinions on others, which is why I don’t see it as an insult to be called one. Now, “hipsters” do… call me that and those are “fighting words”. And I love your username, I’m a fan of the Fourth! 🙂

@monochromedimension – Oh, which song? Do you mean the “Timelord Victorious” one or the earlier theme of “Gallifrey”? I love the Gallifrey one because of the clockwork within it. I have that in common with you, I happen to love clocks and as I child I would take clocks apart and then put them back together again. I horrified my mother with this, as she would find me with the family clocks taken apart, and began screaming that I was destroying property. But I assured her that I was fixing the, which I had done, they were either running too fast or too slow, and I would repair them to work perfectly. I lost that talent though, but I love those themes within the music. 🙂

And yes, I completely love the Seventh Doctor theme and the music within the show. It’s very 80’s! And it makes me feel so very nostalgic for those times!

@monochromedimension – Yes… sometimes I wish I had a Tardis so I can go back in time and “undo” something I’ve stated or done. I had no idea that the “nerdy” comment would be taken so seriously here and I didn’t mean any offense by it. Nor am I concern with the label of it, for me DW is very awesome, and I do not care if many of my peers in the US think that it’s nerdy… mind you, not in the negative way of “ugh… nerd”, but in a very positive way of “only the smart people who can understand Quantum Physics well enough do enjoy that show.” kind of way. And I meant to mention it in passing, in contrast of the very serious view that the show is somehow only for males and it’s weird for females to be fans of it. In the US, there’s no such thought of the show, only the nerdy bit, which is harmless and the only discriminating remark I’ve experienced, is all I wanted to convey. Also I do understand that no such thing is in UK, because the show is a national treasure… just like “The Simpsons” is ours here. And The Simpsons has no gender or “nerdy – cool” connotation to it.  So, I’m not insisting that the show is nerdy for you guys, not at all! Star Trek does have that title, as of any other sci-fi show here, including The X-Files and Star Wars. Yet, it’s an accepted “uncool” type of thing. However, to be clear, I don’t care what’s nerdy or not… I’m a garden variety weirdo, an eccentric, and like whatever I want. I don’t need to classify things in order to enjoy them, I just do! I only take issue if people suggest that I’m a part of any of the high-school subcultures like “emo” or “hipster”, ugh… no! First of all I’m way too old to be pigeonholed into a subcategory, being that my high-school years was well over a decade ago, and I’m well done with that hell-mouth (BTvS reference!). And when I were playing that high-school game of labels in my teens, I was “Goth” and a “nerd”, never the others.

Okay, I’ll stop breaking the topic! That’s all I wanted to clarify. lol.

And yes, the Seventh is very cool! I quoted him on the topic of Tenth’s possible love with Rose, and how the alien maybe didn’t want to love her because he knew that with a human they will grow old and die someday, while he will live forever through regeneration. Yet, he couldn’t help himself but to love Rose anyway, because as the Seventh said, “Love has never been noted for its rationality.” 🙂

@purofilion – Aw, thank you and it’s alright. I feel like in watching this show and being a true fan of it, I’m still connected to my grandmother and great grand, and with every BG episode I watch I think, “This may have been episodes they had enjoyed too!” And it feels like I’m carrying on the Whovian tradition within my family. It’s nice. 🙂

Yes! This forum is the best, I love how I sleep and then wake up to so many mentions and new posts to check out. It’s like Christmas every day. I think I’m becoming a bit addicted to this site.

I will miss River Song as well, if she’s truly gone. Although, I think it’s fitting that she should fade away, like the Eleventh, a final ending to that chapter and love story. However, we never know what curve-balls the writers will decide to chuck at us next. I’m way too excited for the new season to began!

    FaeGrl @replies

@monochromedimension – Erm… I do have a question, because I’m just a bit confused here. The first post of this topic thread by @fatmaninabox states that this thread is about off topic anything we wish to speak (or write) about without new members feeling daunted about adding into deep conversations about DW. And the topic Dalek says that this thread is specifically for DW conversations. Which one is it? It’s not that I fear the Topic Dalek (I have a Sonic Screwdriver!), but I so much want to be respectful of the rules here and I’m an avid follower of the mantra “A place for everything and everything in it’s place.”, so I don’t want to get it wrong! 😉

Regarding River Song, yes I do love that character so very much! Although, she’s the Eleventh’s wife and I do agree with Matt Smith’s argument that she shouldn’t be with any other Doctor. However, if the writers decide to go that way, I admit that I’m highly curious on how they will pull it off and not make it completely awkward. It does seem like with every regeneration, the Doctor starts over in relationships. Maybe not companions though?

@arbutus – No, no, no! I would never think someone “dumb” or otherwise for having a different view! That’s stupid backwards nonsense. Different views are all important and educational. I find your view about the Tenth and Rose a lot fascinating! And it’s caused me to want to go back to some episodes and see if I can see what you do. As if I needed an excuse to re-watch the serials of the Tenth. 😛

You may be right about that… I have a very young nephew and in high-school they’re still in that standard that “Jocks and cheerleaders are cool! The mathletes and those who read books are not cool.” I was told by him, on occasion, that I’m not cool because I’m “book smart”. I took it as a compliment, if being “cool” means never reading anything or educating oneself, and spending time on Facebook to “typ3 lyk d1s”. I rather be a “nerd” and type in English. However, outside of high-school, it seems like being a nerd isn’t so bad at all. I often run across people who try their hardest to be one, just for the fashion statement. Oh… and I can’t stand hipsters, they purposely want to be “different” and then put others down about it. A hipster would say to me, “I was into Doctor Who before it was cool!”, then give me a stare as if I’m somehow out of the loop because I wasn’t born yet in the time that it wasn’t consider “cool”. I insist that it was “cool” in the 80’s, with the Tom Baker reruns, which is when I first found the show.

Hmm… as if I don’t blah-de-blah enough on this forum, I wanted to quickly mention some of my current shows I’m following (sorry, if you’re sick of me already!). Besides Doctor Who, I tend to love crime dramas in general… I’ve always wanted to work in law enforcement, you see. Never quite got there, so I write instead.

Anyway, I’m currently watching two crime shows, one fictional and one real: “The Following” and “Catching Killers (Forensic Firsts)”. I was a huge fan of Sherlock… I still am, just that I’ve gone lazy in following it in real-time and plan to watch the full season in a marathon when they add it to “Netflix”, like they always do. I was always a huge fan of “Lie To Me”, before they canceled it. Sigh. And for the gruesome monster stuff, I do follow The Walking Dead. American Horror Story, and “Supernatural” from time to time.

Oh, boy… I hope I didn’t cause a stir here with the use of the term “nerdy”. In the US, this is considered a high compliment these days, being that Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg (creator of Facebook) are consider “nerds”. Also Steve Jobs, master of all things Apple and innovative software/devices, was also considered as a “hippy nerd”. In my high-school years, “nerd” was a dirty word and meant “social outcast”, but with the younger generation it actually means “cool”. As they say now in the US, “geek is the new chic!”. And I’m proud to be part of the new social change of that, being that people my age and younger believe that I am “cool” because I am nerdy. I wish it were true in high-school years, but better late than never! 🙂

@arbutus – Hey, the rule of thumb here is that any music (no matter how new or centuries old) is “cool” and never nerdy. And the fact that you have a family of musicians makes your “cool factor” rise even greater. 😉

@arbutus – Ha! I just replied to the other post and wrote about the Topic Dalek too! I did realize we were going off topic there a bit. It just took me later to catch up with the rest of you. 😉

Yes, that true! Every regeneration they seem for forget about the other… unless the companion shows up again and there seems to be a gap somehow, even then. That’s a very good point. Although, I was never implying that the Eleventh was in love with Rose, but the Tenth clearly was. Or so, that’s what I had gathered anyway. I could be wrong, of course.

@purofilion – Yes, DO disagree about Amy, because you’re so right! She was more of a flighty hands everywhere type. lol. Not at all on the same level of Rose or Martha, who were actually in love with the Doctor. Yeah… I wouldn’t want to indulge, even if it was the Doctor, while engaged. Then again, I’m so not flighty and not that young either. However, I can understand he lack of judgment there, if only for a moment. 😉

I think this conversation of relationships happened when another member bought it up, about the Clara and “next Doctor” possible romance. Now we’re revising all of the love-matches of earlier regenerations.  Seesh! Not that I mind, but I fear the Topic Dalek stopping by and exterminating us all. 😮

I’m back! I just got done with laundry and all of the menial tasks of my daily life, yet was pleasantly surprised to find my inbox full of great DW debate! Seriously… you people are beautiful and make my life a lot less dull! I’m not brown-nosing, just stating a fact. 🙂

@arbutus – Regarding viewing DW in a vacuum, I can relate, believe it or not. I know I speak of my grandmother and great grandmother, but the honest truth is that by the time I became a fan of the show, both had died. I never got the chance to speak with them about it or watch shows with them sadly. And as I mentioned before, my mother was never a real fan of the show. She found it “weird and scary”, although it was her who told me how much my relatives had loved the show. As for forums, I have joined a few, but none were as graceful or intelligent about the show, like this forum. The usual course was that I would write a opinion contrary to what the others may view it, then it would become personal rather than a healthy debate. It was more like, “You don’t like the Eleventh Doctor? You found him ‘too silly’? Well, you’re ugly, you’re stupid, you’re breath smells, and your mother is horrible for ever giving birth to you!” That’s when I began to become a “lurker” on forums, never commenting or sharing my views, just watching everyone else bicker in such a personal way with some few hints of any information about the show that was useful. So, it’s just me and my sister who have Doctor Who discussions now… which lead me to this forum. I only joined it because I saw the “no flaming” rule. 😉

Now, for the subject about Rose and the Doctor, I have to disagree there, respectfully of course! You ask how can I explain the moments with the Tenth, well I can do so very simply, but I warn you that I see with eyes of a “hopeless romantic”. The episode with Reinette had clearly sparked such jealously in Rose, as if they were a couple, that didn’t go over well and there was some angst over that one. And when Rose asked about settling down together and the Doctor did that awkward pause, the same thing happens with some men when their girlfriend asks, “when are we going to move in together?” It doesn’t mean that he does not love the girl, the Doctor may have had cold feet about taking that next step. And when he ran out of time and hesitate in telling her “I love you”, a lot of men have an issue in saying those three little words sometimes, it doesn’t mean that they don’t feel it or think it. And the Doctor also cried tears after that scene. However, the biggest evidence on how the Doctor really felt about Rose is when he dropped off his clone to be with her, “Journey’s End”. Rose asked the clone, “Before you disappeared, what were you going to say to me”, the clone whispered in her ear and she kissed him… very much! OR… you could just say it was because the clone was half human or something like that.

Although, I have to disagree with the idea that the Doctor could never fall in love with a human… River Song was part human and he was in love with her, she was his wife. It just has to be an extraordinary human, in order for the Doctor to break is defenses… and I believe he doesn’t wish to fall in love with humans because he’s a Time Lord and sooner or later they will die and he will not.  Yet, as the Seventh Doctor had quoted before, “Love has never been noted for its rationality.” Even the Doctor has no power over who he falls in love with.

And yes, it’s very okay if you don’t agree with me! It’s just one of my theories is all. 😉

I would have liked to check out the other… sadly, it’s “unavailable to your country”. It seems like Youtube wouldn’t have such restrictions, but they do. Sigh. 🙁

I see your Doomsday Theme and raise you:

@arbutus – Hmm… interesting. You know the fans in US did take that moment to mean that The Doctor thought it was his baby, not Rose and Mickey. Not to discount yours and @purofilion view, not at all. It’s just weird how we took it differently. Which goes to show, one person’s  “obvious” is not always the same for everyone. And to answer your question: Yes. I do think the Doctor would realize that Rose and Mickey were over and take that hint long before. For two reasons, he’s the Doctor and clever. And two, they had a bit of a love affair before that moment of goodbye (re: the hand holding and lovey dovey looks to each other), so he had to have known that Rose was so over Mickey. Unless he thought she was a tart, who flirts with him and yet has a boyfriend. Hmm…

Or that’s just my observations of it. I also think that Mickey had long figured out that it was over between him and Rose, and he did complain about it once or twice to the Doctor. So, the Doctor would have realized it from there. And he was aware that Martha had a crush on him, way before she left the Tardis, yet hoped to ignore it. He quickly discovered it with Amy (he had no choice but to see that one, as she kissed him the night before her wedding). And that whole disclaimer he made with Donna Nobel of “I just want a mate!”, expressing that he was tired of his companions falling for him, besides Rose. People laugh, but I often refer to Martha as the “rebound companion”, as Rose was the only one yet that the Doctor had honestly fallen for. As illustrated in this comic: Doctor Who: The Rebound.

@bluesqueakpip – Oh, what an interesting difference! First of all, I want to express that I mean no offense in throwing out the word “nerd”, as I take pride in such a title… because, lets face it, nerds have more fun than the “cool kids”. I’ve been on both sides of that in high-school… with the cool kids, it was too much wearing only “cool outfits” and sunglasses indoors, and a lot of standing around and “looking cool” going on. I was bored to tears, until I began hanging out with the nerds, thus sci-fi shows, video games, comic books, and arguing over fictional characters in deep discussions began. 🙂

Yes, in the US, Whovians are considered as nerds, as well as Trekkies (Star Trek fans), whatever the fans of Star Wars call themselves, Bronies (My Little Pony fans), and every other fandom out there. And when we gather to conventions they’re often dubbed as “nerd conventions”. And the better you are able to discuss and debate a show in detail, the higher your nerd-status rises.  However, in the US it’s becoming a trend that “nerd” is the new “chic”. Seriously, our fashion models are walking down the runway in what they claim is “nerdy” apparel now. And this is highly annoying to me, because I often find myself meeting with fellow “nerds”, thinking I have met people who are like minded, only that we have nothing in common whatsoever except our glasses. I’ve taken to ask, “Are you really a nerd or are you just wearing the title as a fashion accessory?

@monochromedimension – Wow… in the US, the 80’s was when Doctor Who began to become “cool” here, with a small cult following, when public television began to air the Tom Baker reruns. For a lot of us in the US, Tom Baker was our first. Although, it wasn’t until the Tenth and Eleventh Doctors that the show really took off here, with so many younger fans. And 17th century history… very nice! 😀

@PhaseShift- Ha! Yes, I’ve experienced that with video gaming online. When my avatar showed up and I had a mic, obviously displaying that I was indeed a girl in the game (because it’s assumed that there are no girls in medieval role-playing video games, just males using the avatars), I was very much welcomed… too much so! I was a bit freaked out too, as droves of males ran over to me in the game and kept shouting, “It’s a girl! A real live girl!” and then tried to flirt with me shamelessly. I just wanted to play the game. I don’t imagine that happening in Doctor Who conventions, though. It’s too universal here, just like any other sci-fi convention. The differences is a lot interesting.

@arbutus – Yep! American are weird and any show that has some nudity (even in cartoon form), gross humor, and sexual innuendos will be inherently titled as “for guys”. I don’t know why that is. So, I’ve had males argue with me that I shouldn’t like, nor appreciate Monty Python. Feh! That show was my entire teen years, to be honest. I would stay up late to watch it on public television, then sleep-walk through class the next morning. Good times! 🙂

Yes and in the US, it’s always been a thing that within computers, maths, science, law enforcement/military, and anything technology it is suppose to be a “boy’s game”. My whole childhood I was told I couldn’t have interests in this or that, because I’m a girl. And my female peers would shudder whenever I bought up about anything tech or law enforcement. It’s gotten slightly better in the US nowadays, regarding law enforcement and military, but not by much in tech fields. There’s still a stigma around it and so very few women in the tech fields. You can count them on one hand, literally.

@confusedpolarity – Yes, I wasn’t even thought of in 1970 (was born in 1980), so I missed out on this great episode completely, until now.

I’m a bit confused (no pun attended!) when you and others mention that it wasn’t cool to be a girl who loves Doctor Who. I never experienced such a thing, being that my grandmother and great grandmother were fans. And my mother was “sorta” a fan, meaning that she watched it because my grandmother and great grandmother did so with the only television in the house and it was either watch or be bored. Maybe it was different in the US? I don’t know.

Anyway, I do get a lot of grumblings from males for some of my interests and viewing habits… for example, I’m a “girl gamer” and apparently the video games that I enjoy are suppose to be “for boys”. I enjoy anime (Japanese animation) that’s not marketed for females, but for males. A lot of the sci-fi shows I enjoy, I get weird looks for it by males, as well as movies (I enjoy the action and.or bloody ones! Boo to romantic-comedies!). And I have had men argue me down about my love of Monty Python’s Flying Circus… unbeknownst to me, it’s not for the ladies. Who knew?! I shall do the “silly walk” in response to that! However, I haven’t yet gotten a weird look or sexist comment about my love of Doctor Who. I didn’t even know it was a thing! Oh well… I’m much like Chopin’s companion, George Sand… I never cared about the gender roles my entire life and do whatever I feel like. 😉

I think the most weird judgment I’ve gotten for my love of Who is that it’s “nerdy”. All sci-fi is considered so in the US, in general. So, it’s not so much gender for me, it more like “Oh… so you’re that kind of nerdy, eh?” And to that I respond, “You have NO idea how deep the rabbit hole goes. Take the red pill to find out!”

@purofilion – Oh? I never would have guessed he meant Micky, for the fact Rose and him were over since the start of the Doctor showing up as the Ninth. And I was pretty sure that poor Mick had long got the hint of it, way before the final goodbye between Rose and Tenth.  So, that’s why I deduced that it was a bit of a joke there of the Doctor worried that Rose was pregnant with his baby, but she wasn’t. However, no the Doctor didn’t have a child with any of his companions, as far as I know of. He did have children, hence the granddaughter Susan, but nothing is known about his previous family beyond her. It was just a moment in the episode of Rose and Tenth that made fans go, “Ah-ha! So they did get together off-camera at one point!” Heehee. 😉

Oh, the Tenth Doctor is my most favorite for sure… but I am still loyal to my first, the Fourth Doctor. The Fourth represents my childhood and Tennant is my current love. I’m not so much a fan of Matt, however, he wasn’t a bad one… I don’t think there are any “bad ones” to be honest. Or I haven’t met them yet. @Purofilion – Ha! Don’t worry, I’m new to the term “shipping” as well. My roommates are all very young and I learned of it last year. Yes, it means to imagine two characters of any series as a romantic couple or speculate it. Some fans ship the Tenth Doctor and Donna Nobel together… even though there is so much evidence to the contrary. Sigh… Anyway, it’s true, we don’t know enough about Eccleston and why his run as the Doctor is so short, but it’s clear that he doesn’t want to be associated with the show at all. It’s odd, because when he started it, he would make bold exclamations about the character of the Doctor as a whole. Like his quote of: “The Doctor’s message seems to be accept life in all its forms. He doesn’t react with horror when he sees a blue, three headed monster. He reacts with wonder, and I think that’s a very important message to send out to children.” It was a nice quote, but now Eccleston reacts with, “Who?” when asked about the show or character. Hmm… I can’t help but to think that some of the rumors is true, about his dislike over the writers and staff of the show, then quitting. And when they asked him to do the Christmas special, he refused. So, I’ll continue to speculate. lol.

@scaryb – Yes, I do agree with you… the relationships between Doctor and companions are always ambiguous. Even in the case of Rose and Tenth, they never did any snogging or otherwise on screen (one kiss when Cassandra possessed the body of Rose, if that counts). The fans only got the hint that they were in love, because of the looks they gave each other and sometimes they held hands. And it was confirmed that there was something more when they were finally separated. Mostly the bit of dialogue during their good-bye conversation, when Rose mentioned a pregnancy and the Doctor became nervous for a moment, “A baby?” And Rose assured him it wasn’t theirs, but her mother and father were expecting. There’s no such thing seen between Clara and the Doctor yet… but it could happen, I guess. Right now, I just don’t see any evidence. I’m a slow shipper, in general. 😉

@bluesqueakpip and @purofilion – I couldn’t agree with you more. I have the same view that Clara is not “in love” with the Doctor and it would be a bit of a stretch. Although, some fans believe so and like to “ship” those two, because of the kiss and the sexual innuendo scene with the icy staircase. HOWEVER, that was one version of Clara who died, the version of her that is currently with the Doctor doesn’t seem too sexually interested in him or vice versa, And.. it’s kind of odd to think about this within a family-friendly show. This is not Torchwood, after all. However, Clara doesn’t fawn over the Doctor like Martha or Rose, so I do believe she fancies him and does love him, yet not romantically attracted to him. Or, I’ve never seen any evidence to that. Its true that the writers could change it, later on, but for now I think it’s too much of a stretch.

And yes, although I don’t like how Moffat hardly finishes his plots well, I wouldn’t say he was worse or better than any other writer for the show. And without the campy qualities, that would be enough for me to turn off my television, because if I wanted “cool” and perfect special effects, I’m already a fan of many sci-fi shows like that. This show is special because it speaks to the child within me, not so much the adult who needs stories and effects to be a billion dollar standard, in order to enjoy it. If this show was just like any other, then I’d become very bored of it fast and move on.

@missshannonkent – I do get what you mean, about some actors forgetting that they don’t own the Doctor. This is why Christopher Eccleston had such a short time of it, because he didn’t like where the writers were going with the character, and pretty much he wanted to own the character in his personal view. Then he quit and refused to do the Christmas special… I’m sorry, but my opinion of Mr. Eccleston is that he was a big baby and should have agreed to the Christmas special. I would hope that Capaldi will not do the same. It must be hard to play such a character that is suppose to have a part of the actor’s interpretation of the Doctor, yet not stray too far from what fans expect and view the Doctor. And I think that’s the point of the show’s title “Doctor Who”, as in “Who is he going to be this time around?”. However, I agree with the idea that every Doctor is suppose to be different, a new part of the whole, and that’s what makes the show such a success. If every Doctor was the same for over 50 years, that would be so very dull.

And I do like Capaldi’s new outfit, very much, because it reminds me of the Third Doctor. Also, I don’t follow Twitter. I barely get on with Tumbrl and Facebook. Although, I’m sometimes tempted to make a Twitter account, because Stephen Fry is there… I love that guy! 🙂
