@ichabod – I’ve been wondering about Clara – the thing that I’m wondering is
how much Missy sees herself in Clara. Is Clara how she sees her very younger
self when she may have been the Doctors sidekick companion? Does that give us
any clues into where this story maybe going? I’ve been trying to ‘sleuth’
it out. Its recently been ‘Whosession’ to extrapolate something about that if
you get my meaning.18 May 2015 at 21:46 #40186@denvaldron @jimthefish @craig As the Doctors said in the 50th —
“Loving the posh gravity of brave words Dick Van Dyke” — or in other words
very interesting recent conversations here although a bit snarky but oh well still entertaining
– thanks folks 😉18 May 2015 at 00:43 #40153I would just add that Missy being a woman comes off very Dominatrix too implying
a strange fascination with submission on her part. So its more about her trying to
get the Doctor to surrender to her. Maybe its wrong to see her as a woman and should
be seeing her as transsexual? Its a kind of need for empowerment but not exactly
feminist what with the Edwardian Mary Poppins out fit. Who knows what mix of anatomy
is hiding under those clothes. Maybe she’s just playing that role when she wields
that lipstick before she attacks Osgood? Also when she tells people to say something nice.
I think that the Master is just exploring a new role as a means to assert her/himself over
the Doctor. That was what that whole ”Have I won’ question was about at the end of the
episode. Just think that might be what’s happening.17 May 2015 at 21:02 #40145@Burrunjor Hi I agree that its very difficult to make a cross over between the Delgado
and Missy masters. Totally different iterations. It is the same for me with various Doctor
iterations regardless of the gender thing. I can also see how you might make the take away of
the Doctor and Miss/Master being siblings. I imagine it could be that they could have shared
1 parent but not both and I’m basing that on the Simm master speaking about ‘his’ fathers estates.
But a lot of us have latched onto Missy and appreciate how she is being portrayed. There is
even conjecture that she is not a regeneration but maybe in fact a download from the Matrix.
In any case I am very optimistic for lots more surprises in season 9. So try to be a bit less
cynical cause it may shake out that you will be happy about where it goes. 🙂12 May 2015 at 00:59 #40083@Whist Oops again with my @ on previous post 🙁
12 May 2015 at 00:57 #40082@whist Hi – So here’s a song about politics, honesty and becoming the new ruler.
Seems a bit appropriate in lieu of a very recent electoral event.
Music can often help you have a happier brain in the midst of depressing situations.10 May 2015 at 03:23 #40036I’ve been reading all the posts regarding the election. Its bringing back bad memories
for me about when Bush got a second term and I told everyone that’s it I’m moving up to
Canada! Those were horrible years politically for the States. Cameron’s government at
least has given you the referendum choice and not out right lied to the UK about weapons
of mass destruction again. Not yet. So I’m not saying its a great situation there but
you do have the SNP plus the Cons don’t have a super majority. I was having a conversation
with another friend from Derby area and she said that if Milliband had just more of the
Farage gift for political discourse then the outcome could be different. Maybe? Its unfortunate
but it does sound a bit like people voted ‘against’ more than they voted ‘for’ anything anyway
and if your bitter going into a vote it makes it so much harder. I’ve seen this happening over
and over in other countries too -lots of bitterness like a virus is everywhere.
We are just getting started with our big one here. Oh joy!10 May 2015 at 02:41 #40035I re-watched the Osgood scene in DinH again. When Missy says she wants to tell her something
important Osgood answers “why would you want to tell ‘US’ plural. As if maybe she is referring
to more than just one individual That may not be anything but just saying.
Also Missy makes a big deal of Osgood ‘reaking of a smell’ and I believe that Zygons
are supposed to have a smell. These are tiny bits of stuff but might be a significant indication
that it wasn’t the real Osgood?9 May 2015 at 06:03 #40016@Janette Just saying that I sent a post [actually messed up the @ twice! Good Grief}
and good night 🙂9 May 2015 at 05:50 #40015@ Janette – I messed up my @ to you in the last post. I’m so consistently
crap at those details! 🙁9 May 2015 at 05:47 #40014@Janette People vote against their own interests because of social issues. The media takes
advantage with subliminal messages particularly during election times.
But I think there is also the racial/immigration topic that UKIP brought forward. Cameron
was the only one that promised a referendom. Its possible that swayed a lot of folks thinking
that although they don’t want UKIP they also not sure they want Labors position.
I might be off base but from what I read going up to the vote it was my impression that people
know there will be no wealth redistribution under the Cons but they have seen some minor positive
economic movement under the Cons so far. To be honest I think many Brits don’t want to see the
UK continue to change. UKIP may have felt to radical but the Cons may have been portrayed as
having the best option or ‘hijacking the sweet spot’ to protect that notion. Maybe?9 May 2015 at 02:36 #40006@denvaldron @gamergirlavatar Ok then it was the Zygon that got zapped for sure because
if it was real Osgood how could she be returning? That’s my thinking. The Zygon did the
field work and the real Osgood stayed in the lab? Plus 2 Osgoods in UNIT better than 1!9 May 2015 at 02:08 #40003Oops ! that was @denvaldron on above post.
9 May 2015 at 02:07 #40002@ichabod Footsie pajamas- funny!
@gamergirlavatar @SenValdron @jphamlore – So if Osgood cant recall if she is the Zygon
version or the real McCoy [or did the Osgoods figure out which was which in the ‘Day of the Doctor’]
does that still mean that a living template is required ?
This also tells me its likely we might probably get more Danny too. Just a hunch…8 May 2015 at 18:55 #39991@ichabod @Janette Current events are having a deep impact on all of us! Politics and violence
and Monsanto killing us and the bees with poisonous chemicals and immigration and all of the rest
tangled up together making us all want to despair has also been on my mind a lot too. I’m being
haunted by all kinds of irrationality that I see everywhere. Still I’m always trying to *not*
feel disdain and too discouraged but instead try to fill myself with toleration. However, I also
think there seems to be too many irrational and irresponsible poor choices being made and it feels
dangerous and sobering! Don’t even get me going with corruption. That has been a glaring issue
which is all about the money. Seems like there are indeed lots of accelerants around.
Maybe that’s why the UK swung conservative? Maybe they felt benefit in having the devil you know?8 May 2015 at 02:53 #39964@gamergirlavatar I also saw a post about Alex Kingston’s recent remark at 1 of the
comic cons that it was her impression most of the companions that go are given
a fair well party but she hasn’t had hers as of yet so who knows what that might
hint at?7 May 2015 at 03:08 #39930I see no one has posted the Sky politicians getting it on song yet so here ya go
6 May 2015 at 21:04 #39917@jphamlore So yes – I see what your getting at. The Master/Missy is once again attempting
to replace humans like in ‘End of Time’ but using some new techniques to achieve this. Also
the Galifreyans might be trying once again to target Earth like they did in EofT. Rassilon wanted
the removal of the humans on Earth back in EofT. What the Galifreyans are planning now and how Missy
or others fit into this I’m not sure. There are really all sorts of possibilities of how it can
shake out.
The 1 thing I know is that this is going to continue to be a huge epic story arc!
{Cant wait for more leaks and season 9 ! :)}4 May 2015 at 23:46 #39856@ichabod I agree with everything you said except I have a possible small
discrepancy with the notion of her working independently and not under control of
others. Perhaps the Galifreyans or with Dr.Skarosa ? I don’t think we know about
all of that yet.
Also I don’t think we know for sure if she created herself or was created by
some one or group for some nefarious purpose. Of course I’m not even convinced
that she is a regeneration but then maybe I’m the one that’s bananas? It seems to me we are living in a transitional time when a lot of folks still have
a problem with what ladies are and think that you cant manage the agility to be both
a strong women and still lady ‘like’ so they throw around sexist terms based on outdated
standards. Its unfortunate that these people continue to be pinned down by prejudice.
Although I have to reluctantly admit that I wondered myself if she is wearing scandalous
undergarments under that Edwardian suit? 😉4 May 2015 at 17:14 #39829I have come across a rumor regarding a young version of Davros returning as a character
in season 9 in 1 of the early episodes. I thought I posted it but possibly not. I will
try to find the source again but in any case it is fueling my bonkers theorizing over
Dr. Skarosa/Missy and the 3W scenes in the season 8 finale.4 May 2015 at 16:00 #39825@ichabod and everyone — Hello! I’ve been MIA cause of overwhelmingly fabulicious road trip !
Missed you guys and tried hard to not fill my head with Who-ness whilst away but cheated a little. So now about Missy. So yes S/he is a strange conglomeration of a character[s] and it is a great
puzzle yet to be solved. I have my bonkers theory about that which is she may not be a
typical regeneration. Actually she could be a download from the Matrix into a cloned body that
may possibly be the work of Davros [Dr.Skarosa] and this may explain some stuff. Further, if this
is so then is it possible that Davros could have chosen a conglomeration of various Masters as
the template for Missy? Some of these Masters may have been very early on versions in which the
relationship between the Doctor and Master could have know some unusual intimacy? Now believe me
when I say that this is a theory which is likely to be filled with all kinds of loopholes that you
can drive a car thru. Plus if Davros is back that means in a way he is back with a plan to fight
his nemesis the Doctor. When Missy is saying that she knows where Galifrey is does this also mean
that Davros has it and if in fact he has returned could he pulling Missy’s strings after a fashion?
So ok peeps- go forth and try to find some of those looholes for me if you feel so inclined !
I’m ready for anything you got !21 April 2015 at 21:36 #39666What if there is more than 1 Matrix? In Utopia we had the beginnings of a Matrix
pattern with the resurrected Humans as the Toclafane. Missy was the architect of
Matrix patterns before. Why should we be assuming that there is only that 1
Matrix that UNIT has captured? There might be many possibly all interconnected
thru Missy the architect or ‘creator’ has hidden all over the place. How many
Matrix did the Galifreyans have. The painting ‘Galifrey falls no more’ was even
a type of matrix.
Btw, Missy’s Edwardian ‘fetish’ outfit reminds me of the Edwardian suit worn by the
‘Architect’ character in the Matrix movie franchise. He was the creator of the Matrix
in the movie versions and it just seems like another tie in to me with those films20 April 2015 at 03:06 #39646@bluesqueakpip It also occurred to me that Anabel was being protected by the “trees life force”
by becoming merged with the hydranga bush in order to keep her away and protect her from Missy?
Why? It seems as if there is some special thing about her and it makes me wonder
if she might show up again. In fact, will we be returning to Coal Hill school in season 9?20 April 2015 at 00:17 #39645@bluesqueakpip I’m not sure. Missy made her remark before the returning of the sister. I re-watched
the end of ItFotN and I cant decide what Missy was really surprised about. However, it might be that
it was the sister Annabelle that Missy used to make her clone DNA. But then why take that particular
girl and in fact why were both girls ‘tuned in’ as the Doctor says to a different frequency? A very
interesting choice of words. I wonder why the Sun also chose to act rebelliously at that particular
time? Why would it want to flush out of the earth? Maybe it was that Missy was trying to use it to
kill off everything so she would have more dead souls to make into cybermen but the trees stopped her
death plan. I think that’s also another option. But I still think it all ties into Death in Heaven.19 April 2015 at 19:41 #39635@ichabod @bluesqueakpip First, I love a good fun puzzle! About ‘Into the Forest of the Night”, in
that episode showing the return of the nanowhatsits from ‘Empty Child”, Yes! Also that young girl who
spoke with the nanowhatsits and who was looking for her sister that mysteriously disappeared {the sister returned in place of the hydrangea shrub? did anybody else think that strange}. I’m wondering now if she might have gone for a visit to the Nethersphere? Why am I thinking this? It feels like it could work in the Missy/Nethersphere arc- Missy did show up at the end of the episode and was surprised about something. I think it was that she was able to return the sister. Maybe it was that?18 April 2015 at 22:45 #39625@ichabod this is CAL —-http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Charlotte_Abigail_Lux
CAL is the matrix in ‘Silence in the Library” and ‘Forest of the Dead” and
its first appearance of River Song with the 10th Doc. Two great episodes!
SM wrote them and it shows that he is a big fan of the Matrix movies
and of the downloaded people concept. The people ‘saved” in CAL could travel
in in and out of this library matrix. So Death in Heaven SM is reusing
again the matrix device in a new way. There are some very key episodes
from past SM stories where he has repeated certain ‘devices’. I was thinking
about re watching at some point just the SM episodes from before he took over to
look for any other of those relationships.17 April 2015 at 21:01 #39618@thepapalmainframe Ok so what if River Song was trying to find a way out of CAL?
We saw that she sort of did so already once. I imagine that maybe since CAL is a
kind of matrix and maybe River found a way to download herself from there into a clone.
We have seen clone episodes before too. Perhaps we can imagine that River become Tasha
Lem in her new cloned body? Because Tasha means rebirth and Lem is Mel backwards.
So why would River choose to do this? She does this because this papal army kidnaped her
mom and also turned her into a psychopath and so now she get to have a kind of vengeance
on this papal army. The psychopath running the asylum!
The reason I mention this here has to do with the bonkerizing I posted about downloading
and cloning up thread of the Galifreyans and Skarosa etc,. Because of the similarities.
In other words it seems plausible to me as a theory in both story arcs and just wondering….
ya know 😉15 April 2015 at 03:26 #39601@jphamlore Btw- so what if Missy isn’t a Master regeneration but rather a Master download??
How’s that for a bonkers theory?15 April 2015 at 03:14 #39600@jphamlore Interesting view! the particular word that grabbed me is ‘clone’!
What if the cybermen in the tanks were people that had been cloned? Davros knew
how to do cloning or maybe I should say that’s Dr. Skarosa? Then there is that Matrix.
Could rogue Galfreyans have downloaded themselves into that Matrix and are hiding in it?
Then they could possibly download themselves into the newly minted human clones?
Would that work? I’ve been stuck on that Dr Skarosa character as if it were some sort
of big in your face clue since the first time I saw the episode! Any thoughts?14 April 2015 at 23:46 #39598But wait there’s more!!
[my niece sent this to me today, she’s another young Whovian initiate]
14 April 2015 at 21:30 #39597BTW – this is for all my British friends as the election approaches
Here’s Maggie with some tips for Dave
14 April 2015 at 20:59 #39596http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-manchester-32301419
Doctor Who School anyone? 11 weeks for a college credit folks!
13 April 2015 at 01:56 #39561@bluesqueakpip I would like to see more past Galifrey stories too. In fact, I can
imagine how the writers can use all sorts of devices to do ‘Galifrey historicals’.
Also, series 8 was mostly Earth centric so I think its time to see some more big galactic
adventures. I hope! But I’d really like to see some more Galfreyans too and wouldn’t
mind in the least if they showed up in some new surprising regeneration like Missy was.
It would be super fun I think to see something like that happen again.8 April 2015 at 05:59 #39475@ichabod Btw in spite of the occasional darkness it still remains that he
is for me a super hero that chooses to follow the path of light. The
previously went by a different name has been established but I don’t think
the intent has ever been to brand him as being the devil,
Lucifer as the angel who was the bringer of light and had a fall from grace
has some parallels in the Doctors story too. I think that might be a better
analogy without going to the totally evil devil hell pit place. Although
I’m no expert on the whole convoluted mash up of all of it to me they
have always been 2 different things/characters.8 April 2015 at 04:55 #39474@ichabod Thanks for the link ! So I don’t think the Doctor was the devil before
‘choosing’ to become the Doctor. But I do think the guy carries around a lot of
baggage and a lot of it isn’t happy stuff which therefore causes him all sorts
of distress. The parallels in the writing between Doctor and devil are a device
SM is using to show glimpses of how he feels about needing redemption from (as
he puts it himself to Clara ) ‘past mistakes’. I still think that SM is writing
a superhero and many super heroes have dark sides. Look at Loki or Batman etc.
These are the psychopathic super heroes and the Doctor has a lot of issues
that make him a little crazy too.
The Hurt Doctor was the closet thing to being like a devil in that he became
a warrior in a hell situation and sought to destroy Galifrey.
As it happens It all seems to me to be fitting nicely with all the myths and legends
themes which SM apparently likes so much7 April 2015 at 17:35 #39470@ichabod @Purofilion This conversation reminds me of the Rumi quote about ‘the sun sets
and the moon sets but they never go away’ which to my mind either refers to regeneration or
reincarnation -which ever is your preference.
Of course this is 1 of the exceptionalisms of the Doctor – he’s a super hero. His other power is
that he can also manipulate all those grey areas in the pockets in between the real and our
imaginations because he can tinker around with time. So the future is always fixed until it isn’t.
All the times we thought for sure that things were going to end up 1 way and as a result
of the Doctors tinkering had different consequences speaks to me of a hopeful message.
Which makes the Doctor also a sort of religious icon too I guess 😉 I personally don’t care about
the religious concepts – although I do ‘believe’ that our Doctor is not a slave to darkness but rather
a slave to light which is another definition of superhero. He always seeks the path of light.1 April 2015 at 03:07 #39374@arbutus Jerry is the definition of a really talented politician and we are
so lucky to have him. He won re-election overwhelmingly and I believe we would
keep him perpetually in that job if we could. He has a excellent Lt. Governor
in Gavin Newsome and I think he will easily be elected when its time in a few years.
We all know that he is aiming for that job.
I feel lucky to live in 1 of the states where they have open mindedness and
fairness and common sense about how they run government. They haven’t tried to
cut services to the neediest and they try to keep education as affordable as they
can and etc. and so on. Now if we could just get the drought situation turned around
We have begun water rationing here. I even put a bucket in the shower and a bin at the
rain gutter! I’ve got a big gardening bug and I know that I have a struggle to look
forward to with watering some of this garden. That part is very sad for me! 🙁1 April 2015 at 01:42 #39370@Purofilion I still volunteer in my old school where I used to teach. Its 2 mornings
a week and mostly I work with kids in small groups off of tablets. So these
kids are engaging so much better surfing around rather than following the standard
textbooks. Its really having a positive impact plus they learn. But teachers are
using the net to supplement the standard curriculum and they’ve seen some impressive
results. There are lots of ways to go. I personally like the sites that are
offered from art and science museums. But everyone seems happy with the results.31 March 2015 at 23:39 #39361@arbutus I empathize with your take on the state of education. Fortunately in
California Governor Brown is starting to pour back the funds to school districts and
also the decision making to the local districts too. Then there is the ‘common core’
situation to deal with. Most districts are moving away from textbooks and using
the internet for curriculum and tablets which is far more cost effective but comes
with some new issues.
I came across an interesting article in the ‘Atlantic’ recently. I couldn’t agree
with it more!http://www.theatlantic.com/education/archive/2014/04/plato-to-plumbers/361373/?utm_source=SFFB
A philosophy teachers take on the value of teaching humanities@scaryb @Purofilion You both need to definitely know about the Doctor Who Hub Channel on FB!
I’m pretty sure that neither of you will be disappointed- really! If you don’t know about this
channel yet then we need to fix that30 March 2015 at 15:34 #39323@ichabod @Purofilion @Janette
Just wanted to let everyone know that all the Morse and Daziel etc. and so on can be found
on YT ! That is how I have seen thru a lot of these series. I love all that sort of stuff.
Also, realize for some reason some folks don’t want to watch stuff on a laptop but I have
no such issues about it and all these are much more worth watching IMHO than most of what
is currently on the TV tube. Here’s a link for Daziel but its not the only 1Been watching Fortitude intermittently but it’s a real bit of a slog. Thinking that it has a
unearthed by global warming virus attack leaking thru the story? But it isn’t holding me
very well at all. So I really might be taking away the wrong notion from the pieces I watched.29 March 2015 at 17:36 #39285What to do when we get to Sunday? So many possibilities as @jimthefish and others mentioned.
but wait! there’s more
I also love the Gloomy tune a lot – Sarah Brightman does a really good version on it too so…
HAPPY SUNDAY FOLKS! I’ve enjoyed posting all these weekday songs! Really great fun!
🙂 🙂 🙂28 March 2015 at 16:49 #3927327 March 2015 at 17:08 #39257So for some odd reason I’ve felt as though I ‘inflicted some not such a terrific choice’
of a Friday song selection on you guys. My SO would probably say ‘there’s something wrong
about you sometimes’ (My SO also seems to think that its sort of strangely cute about me
but as they say there’s no accounting for taste) 😉
But in any case to make amends I’m submitted a few alternate treats that have absolutely
nothing to do with Fridays etc.1 – @Arbutus– my favorite Paul Ggonsalves bits of the Duke album from Newport Jazz Festival
2 – An always fun and a bouncy favorite that was used in Guardians of the Galaxy
Wishing beveryone a great weekend
Still have a Saturday and a Sunday tune but that’s another post
🙂27 March 2015 at 03:19 #39247@Purofilion Thanks for that vid. I saw Gavin and Stacy a some years ago and that’s when
I first saw James Corden. Now he hosts the Late Late show and I hope at some point he’ll
get SmithDoc and do a Doctor skit with him maybe something like what he did with Tom Hanks!
Tom Hanks grew up in Sacramento California where I live and he still has a very big presence
in this town particularly in the preforming arts. I understand he has a lot of his family
still living around here too. What can I say about David Bowie! In a former life I saw
him in concert. I think that was when he and I were both living in LA. Good days!27 March 2015 at 01:37 #39243@arbutus I love the great Duke ! I’ll have to dig out 1 of my favs to post at some point.
@Purofilion Thought about posting that tune but I’m happy that you did cause the Easybeats
were Aussies!
@whisht Eno is terrific meditation music!
@fatmaninabox I think that Murray Gold’s music is totally genius!!
So for my Friday post apologies for sharing this blast from the past cheesy Disco will
never die but oddly seems appropriate here strange thing:
26 March 2015 at 15:14 #39233Happy 10th anniversary of the return of The Doctor! CapDoc reminisces here….
26 March 2015 at 05:03 #39220@Janette Its nice how seeing all the Doctor Who stickers turned the morning around
for you! It seems I’ve been noticing relationships between the show and real
world stuff. Just sort of became tuned into all of that.
The first vid I posted is part of a Melies playlist. although it would have been
much better to have some of the original music too. Did you see the Martin Scorcese film
“Hugo’? It was a very nice flick that had Melies in it.
Without giving anything away it was done in such a way that I didn’t realize at first where
it was going and I was pleasantly surprised. Definitely worth a watch.
I wasn’t sure about the horse either although it didn’t really look like your typical
Earth horse.26 March 2015 at 01:52 #39215Thursday’s contribution is Mr. William Blake reciting his poem
‘Holy Thursday’
and additionally a very nice musical rendition of the poem
Happy Thursday everyone!
26 March 2015 at 01:46 #39214Forgot- I was on a playlist again -Oops!!!! Here it is
26 March 2015 at 01:44 #39213Some folks may think a Phone Box space ship is a bit unusual but how about
traveling thru space in a horse drawn royal carriage? This is a segment
from the filmmaker Melies around 100 years ago that I came across very
recently – I’d rather travel in the Phone Box 😉 -
