Another YT video asking the question ‘if you are a newbie to Doctor Who
which episodes should you view to get your head around the whole saga?’
I have watched his Dr. Who videos during season 8 and found some
interesting points made now and then here and there in the video and
comments. (But it can’t of course in any way compete with this forum!) 🙂24 July 2015 at 16:48 #41384BRILLIANT viewing!!
23 July 2015 at 03:22 #41366It occurs to me that Missy can create lots of new little Time lords as long as
she can get access to some DNA from herself and the Doctor.
Remember 3W ‘Death is not the end”
Missy was up to all kinds of experiments as if she wants to continue something
and it could be some Time lords? But she does possess all sorts of technology
so I’m not entirely sure she wants to personally procreate. But Who nose?23 July 2015 at 02:50 #41365@jphamlore I agree this might also be a possibility especially if it turns out that
there are no other timelords in the neighborhood. Of course if they do save Galifrey
at some point then its not survival its another thing 😉23 July 2015 at 02:45 #41364@Purofilion @bluesqueakpip @arbutus @suzannems
I am still wondering whether this was a regeneration or a download after the
fashion of the downloaded people into the Matrix and into the Cybermen? Whether it
is a download why chose a female body? So what sort of a statement is Missy or
the writers trying to make about the sex switch?
Was it about trying to reduce the amount of suffering she had experienced being a male
Master? She suggests that she wants her companion/friend back so maybe she’s trying
to use the female body thinking that she can then achieve this more effectively?
Maybe she is going with the nearest form that she thinks in terms of social roles might
create better chemistry.
So we don’t know if this ‘happened’ to her or if it was a choice. I think it was a choice.
Why? For me it all goes to the relationship Missy is after. A new level of connection that
wont be possible as long as she is a Master ‘form’. Although she has shown she still is as
bananas as ever but in her deranged and delusional strategy she thought she may have
discovered power and low risk.21 July 2015 at 03:22 #41311Correction – I meant to say Bruce Jenner – Big Oops!
Kris is/was his/her wife21 July 2015 at 01:07 #41309@Purofilion Actually I got to thinking that Missy could have “Chris/Kaitlyn Jenner
mash-up transgender thing going on?? In which case that makes this a remarkable
year for the transgender community!20 July 2015 at 02:17 #41298I’ve been catching up on post reading and the one thing we all can agree on is that
Doctor Who is remarkably effective story telling!Last season had lots of old myths and tales about mortality and morality etc. it looks
like this season might have lots of new stories about science/technology/magic.
Its always a show that injects enlightenment, leaving us all questioning how and what
to think and/or believe. There is no other show version like this. Not for me.
19 July 2015 at 22:06 #41293@bluesqueakpip I just read your piece on time travel in the Whoverse and it
is brilliantly done! I have spent time also trying to get my head around
fixed points and so forth and you beautifully helped me clear away some foggy bits.
Thanks for that!19 July 2015 at 21:47 #41292https://medium.com/hackerpreneur-magazine/science-fiction-and-design-866178c1739e
I’m sharing a entertaining and fairly short piece about creating science
fiction and creating the Mars Onsight program.
This was very nicely ‘assembled’16 July 2015 at 00:58 #41223Not sci-fi but equally good stuff here – A reading by Mary Badham who played Scout in
‘To Kill a Mockingbird” from the new Harper Lee novel that just came out ‘Go Set a Watchman’
There is a question period after the reading which was delightful! There were some great
questions and terrific recollections.
I haven’t acquired this book yet but I will.12 July 2015 at 23:55 #41163https://www.bigfinish.com/news/v/bf27june
AUDIO STORIES
9 July 2015 at 20:32 #41084great rap at the end!
9 July 2015 at 19:12 #41080@whisht I’m liking the “Young Galifreyans’ fanfic idea. I can imagine that the Master
was never ok with his fears as a youngster and possibly that was why he chose the name
Master as a power name. Its a sort of indirect way to compensate for feeling fearful
and inadequate under the pressure. Plus the Galifreyans messed with his mind so
possibly the Doctor had great empathy for his sensitive friend. I’m sure the Master
appreciated this kindness and friendship. It cant be easy to feel like an outsider.
The Doctor on the other hand had Clara whisper in his ear that fear was a companion
when he was a youngster. So he wrapped his head around his fears a totally different
way.
Therefore I don’t think the Master ‘mastered’ empathy for his enemies in playing war
games but the Doctor could.
But whether the Doctor when on a runner to escape the Master is still a maybe for me.
I always imagined that the Doctor just got fed up with the Galifreyans and went
out in search of finding some new Gurus and/or adventures.8 July 2015 at 02:58 #410582nd BTW – I would also very much like a lot more Moment/Bad Wolf! just saying….
(I think that covers it? 🙂 )8 July 2015 at 01:32 #41056BTW — I also decided to mention this since tomorrow is July 8th and so I just felt a
implied symmetry in a sideways upside down backwards timey whimey way. 🙂8 July 2015 at 01:28 #41055I came across a little factoid that on July 8 in 1969 the Doomsday story was first aired.
This particular story was when Rose was lost and Rose was BAD WOLF.
The beginning of Bad Wolf was of course the wonderful werewolf story ‘Tooth and Claw’
however it wasn’t the first episode where the brilliant device was used.
I mention this because I hope that the BAD WOLF references will continue since I have
always loved the way Bad Wolf was woven into the Doctor Who epic and I am hoping that
the Moment will cotinine to be aka Bad wolf!5 July 2015 at 17:39 #40972@bluesqueakpip @Purofilion Completely forgot about the minisode ! Rubbish memory on
occasions 🙁 Thanks for fixing me on that point! But not sure which bothers me more?
The memory thing or the fact that there isn’t that mystery around which Doctor brought her
to the Singing Towers? Still, really looking forward to some new River and 8th Doctor
adventures!5 July 2015 at 02:59 #40955@Purofilion I know its hard to work out the River/Doctor timeline. So did she spend time with the
8th before the 10th? Did she go back to the 8th in the way she re-visited the 11th? She said ‘her’
Doctor was the one that cried when he knew she was at the end of her life. But how would the 8th
Doctor have known that would happen? That bit has me stuck. Still he was one of the more
romantic Docs so I can imagine him taking her to that place where they had that special
moment she was recalling in the Library episode. I will need to get those stories !4 July 2015 at 17:47 #40946Good Morning Whosters !! This weekend the Disney XD channel has the first season of Tenant Doc.
in a marathon all day and repeating tomorrow again. I guess its part of the July 4th marathon
programing that all the channels do on holidays in the states. So if you want to catch the early
10th on TV and record it and have that channel well there ya go.@phaseshift and crieshavoc etc.! (you guys know who you are) so I saw that info. regarding
River and the 8th Doc and what popped into my mind was the notion that River had ‘her’ Doctor and
I’m super curious if the 8th was that Doctor for her? If you recall -(I wish I could recall the
particular spot) but I do recall for sure where she refers to ‘her’ Doctor and I can just imagine
that its the 8th mostly cause of his romantic scenes in the movie but I would be very interested
to see in the audio stories where that might end up.1 July 2015 at 00:44 #40895@mudlark I totally understand how that was a big influence on you and its a pity that
there are only some of the episodes around now. For me it was the 1967 Pit movie when
I was little. I’d never seen anything like that ‘cricket’ invasion before. Sort of like
insect ‘daleks’? A truly mind expanding moment I guess at the time. I think there was also
the series called “The Tripods’ about insect machines invading Earth at around that time?
It seems to have possibly been a popular trope in UK sci-fi? It was only a few years back
that I came across the John Mills Quartermass series on YT. Possibly not as sophisticated
but held my interest. Love classic British sci-fi and all the contemporary British Sci-fi too!30 June 2015 at 21:57 #40892@mudlark I love the ‘Quartermass and the Pit’ flick which is a totally amazing classic!
I also know the BBC series with John Mills which I loved and the remake with David
Tennant which I liked a lot but that previous John Mills version had already made an
impact on me so its hard to rate a comparison between both but I’m going with the Mills version.
Btw folks- all these are loaded up on Yt30 June 2015 at 21:34 #40890@ichabod I have a ‘sometimes’ bonkers theory that Tom Baker Doctor has already
pre-filmed a solution to Galifrey? It might be that we could possibly return to the
under gallery where he has been keeping watch over Galifrey in the “Galifrey falls no
More” special Time lord matrix-y stasis cube-ish/painting for safe keeping. So maybe the
timelords have been coming and going (Missy) back and forth from there. Also, Davros and
the matrix all have to fit into my theory because I think that probably has to be for
some reason. (Davros aka Dr. Skarosa) But right now I think this all could tie together.
I am still working it all out but if anyone wants to join in with this please do or even push
back. It makes sense to me. I’ve come to the conclusion that Missy gave co-ordinates
that will hookup together with both the painting/stasis cube that the 13 Doctors created
‘Its where it always has been’ and at the same time a deflection of explaining where it
actually is which maybe within Tom Docs undergallery?30 June 2015 at 19:58 #40883@bluesqueakpip @JimTheFiah I wiki’d Verity Lambert cause I knew of her primarily thru
DW and was so very pleasantly surprised! She really had a very interesting career. Some of the
facts are that she influenced productions of many favorite series such as Rumpole of the Bailey
and Johnathan Creek. I’ve also seen The Naked Civil Servant and know of but haven’t seen
The Sweeney. But most of all I was most surprised at her involvement in the classic Quatermass
series which imho is a little gem of sci-fi. She had a big influence on bringing great and
innovative television to all of us! So I’m glad to see there is continued recognition of
her work and talent. She leaves a great legacy.S
26 June 2015 at 02:58 #40841@purofilion Hiya! for you and all the Buffsters

but it is happening tomorrow@fatmaninabox Congradts to you and best wishes on your future horticultural career!
Only a smidge more than two months everybody and we all get to celebrate season 9 together! Hooray! 🙂

Not really a spoiler but a comic Doctor/Trek mashup with Data plus the Cybermen and Borg
unite !! Nice! 🙂9 June 2015 at 03:59 #40573@ichabod So your notion about what is real or not in series 8 while the
Doctor figures out his destiny. Aren’t we being asked to ‘believe’ that these are
real situations and/or places? But I also wonder what the next step is now? It has to be
something more than fiddling with our notions of what is real.
In KtM we are required to believe the moon creature is a real thing like the
forests that appear from no where and a Dalek with a conscious no less etc. But these were
all physical journeys for the Doctor in all the episodes. The Tardis dropped him off in
every location of each episode. even at the 3W place. So I’m voting real. I’ve adapted! Now
where do we go on from this? Now that the seeds of new reality has been planted. I’m wondering
the same thing and isn’t that so enticing!9 June 2015 at 02:26 #40571@Purofilion – I should have explained that what my feelings about series 8 was that these
were all episodes where there were physical solid real places even Robin Hood in spite of
the myth context.. I’m just wondering in the quest to continue discovering his cosmic destiny
stuff that maybe we will have to move on to shamans- like the sisters of Karn perhaps?
I think there could be a shift in the myths and tales type of visions we get.9 June 2015 at 01:54 #40570@purofilion In following our ‘super scientist man’ thru the series 8 arc- yes, it has tons of
myths and tales but interestingly in every episode the Doctor always uses scientific methods
to resolve all the issues. Also, all the episodes were all related to the evolution of the Doctor
discovering his cosmic destiny right up thru the last episode where he figures himself out. But
so far, if the series 9 episode titles are any hint I think there could be a shift into more
metaphysical situations where there will be things that cant be known or solved by the use of
scientific methods. So I wonder if we will be moving on from the more ‘physical world experiences’
into spirit and dream worlds and shaman guides? We haven’t had a lot of that kind of story.
Not sure but it sounds like fun and I’m looking forward to seeing what shakes out!7 June 2015 at 17:24 #40552@phaseshift I really like your ‘where’s Galifrey’ idea a lot! Here I was thinking that
it was stuck possibly in a status cube [maybe one that looks a bit like a snow globe]
and hanging out in the under gallery for safe keeping? I don’t know where I’m getting
that from but it seems to me one can find everything else there. Maybe some future Doctor
finds it in the Tardis and decides to deposit it in that under galery? Could it have been
the TomDoc that we met at the end of DotD? I also wonder since it took all thirteen doctors
to hide Galifrey then wont it take at least that many to bring it back again?6 June 2015 at 20:38 #40538This guy goes thru a lot of the season 9 spoilers so you don’t have to – [I didn’t
know M. Gomez was residing in the states] anyway, he has some interesting bits of
stuff now and then and here and there and so I thought I’d share for all of us that
are hungry for this sort of thing. 🙂4 June 2015 at 16:24 #40509Hi Everyone saw this
http://www.blastr.com/2014-8-8/straczynski-bringing-sci-fi-classic-babylon-5-back-life-movie-reboot-2016for any and all of the Babylon 5 fans – I also enjoyed that series
27 May 2015 at 02:32 #40383@ichabod Yeah- I got curious a long time ago about him when I came across an interesting vid
(although I have no memory what vid) but I googled him then too. I found out quite a lot about
his popular status down under and throughout southeast Asia. He’s done some books and 1 google
talk that’s also on YT but I only have seen a few vids although none in a long while. So some of
his anecdotes he told were interesting little stories with good humor. He is also very affirmative
action and pro equal rights and gender equality and other very liberal attitudes. But I do get that
a lot of what he says is just basic psychology. Also I remember that he used to be a high school
teacher and said that would make anyone want to leave the world so he became a monk.
However I’m definitely not any follower of his or any traditions. But I do appreciate good story
tellers.26 May 2015 at 15:47 #4037826 May 2015 at 15:39 #4037725 May 2015 at 21:02 #40360@gamergirlavatar Also heard rumor that someone had caught a pic and posted it on twitter

25 May 2015 at 00:16 #40333@mudlark @arbutus @todeledo It sounds also to me to be the moonflower or bindweed?
They and also the morning glories are all from the same plant family as potatoes.
Not to be confused with Datura (Angels trumpets) which also can look very much the same and is also
sometimes called moonflowers. Although all of them are part of the nightshade family so you should
maybe wear gloves if there is a lot to weed out.24 May 2015 at 16:55 #40312@Janette It was the previous owner that chose the chain link fence which is about 6 feet high
for the back area so that there isn’t any obstructed view of the fields and trees which are blooming
now in shades of purple, yellow and white and is quite something. We also get to see a bike riding
path in the distance so it has a lot going on back there. The rest of the fencing all down
the sides is wood that can hardly be seen anymore cause of all the vines but the back chain fence is
kept totally clear so we get the view. One of the vines I have is also that perennial blue flowering
morning glory in one of the few sunnier spots left in the yard. I sort of really like it! 🙂 I have a
lemon tree in front of it plus lavender, lambs ears and ground plumbago (which has the same color
flower as the morning glory) all planted underneath and the shades of yellow and grey and blue its pretty.
It looks very Mediterranean in that spot. If you were in the area I’d share plants with you for sure!
@mudlark I loved the decadence of the show gardens too and I am astounded at the quality of the plants
and the creativity! There is such a great culture of gardening in the UK. Love Monty Don 🙂 glad
gardening world is on YT!24 May 2015 at 00:32 #40299@purofilion @arbutus @fatmaninabox Where I live we are along a green belt that
meanders down from the foothills right thru town so we get all kinds of critters. Love
the deer that are blocked by big panel of chain link fence and it also keeps out howling
coyotes but not raccoons or snakes like rattlers so I have to be extra alert this time of
year. But I do love having a garden too and I spend a lot of time “playing” around in it.
I even have a special place to sit with my lap top while I take a break from sniping and
other gardeny stuff I check out online garden sites 🙂 and lots of other stuff like this
great forum! Here is some great garden eye candy for you from the 2015 Chelsea garden showhttp://www.gardenersworld.com/galleries/gallery/chelsea-2015-show-gardens/3619.html
23 May 2015 at 18:30 #40285@purofilon @Whilst I defer and appreciate your judgments. I have been told by
my very musically inclined husband that my music listening skills are a bit “odd” some
of the time. 🙁 so there it is……23 May 2015 at 01:43 #40274Here is a nice quick piece – he plays 2 instruments at the same time while sounding
amazing23 May 2015 at 00:53 #40270@Whilst Just happened to hear the Coldplay tune in the car and the lyrics connected
with me after a fashion to something in the sentiments I was reading in regards to the election.
However I like the Elbow tune as well. Are we going to do garden songs for @fatmaninabox? (claps hands!) oh yes! 🙂

19 May 2015 at 02:18 #40204@ichabod Yeah It could be that Missy is using Clara as a template for what
she thinks is the Doctors concept of what are very acceptable attributes
of a companion. I still cant shake off the feeling that Missy is latching on
to Clara for the purpose of some perverted pipe dream. Possibly to re-do some
aspect in her own past. Maybe I have some of it backwards in that she doesn’t
see herself in Clara but just sees aspects she needs to emulate? Not sure
More sleuthing required19 May 2015 at 01:14 #40198@ichabod — Okay but tell me how it is that Missy dresses like Mary Poppins the ultimate
nanny and Clara was also a nanny and both of them are very proficient in various hacking
skills? Lots of instances of that for both. I still have this feeling that there is some
very odd hard to pin down relationship of Missy seeing herself in Clara thing going on here.
I let you know if I can follow up with better clues18 May 2015 at 23:33 #40191@arbutus @ichabod So if Missy is seeing herself at a distance in Clara maybe she is also
attempting to restage some aspect of her much much younger life when she and Doctor were
possibly not adversaries thru Clara? I mean Missy is the control freak (but Clara is a bit too)
and there is a relationship between coping and control. Missy has said she chose Clara and has
already been influencing the relationship between the Doc and Clara. I guess what I’m getting at
is Missy clinging to some perverted pipe dream about herself thru Clara? I also got the hunch that
she will be wanting to expand this latching onto Clara even more to re-capture/re-do something from
her own past and yes I agree there will be a psychotic confrontation and maybe a few! I think this
is part of where the story is going for season 9. Look out Clara- a storm is rolling in your
direction! -
