@purofilion – There are two types of humans for me and I don’t mean men and women. I’m
referring to those who seek enlightenment and ask questions and those that are anti-
enlightenment or just seek to undermine anything that doesn’t seem rational enough.
I often feel as though most folks in the world are unfortunately that second type.
The problem is that these are the people that undercut themselves with this attitude
and it frustrates me a lot.
Also. I agree you about Clara getting a ‘promotion’ so to speak and placed in charge of
a executive decision. SM likes writing strong female parts and I appreciate that too.9 March 2015 at 03:50 #38643@Shamster – NO – not fair but yes seems obvious its too soon. So that may be why when
Missy told him where Galifrey is it could be that it hadn’t arrived there yet?
WOW ! I have a feeling we may all be waiting for this for a long while – lol9 March 2015 at 03:29 #38642@ichabod – That brain is a bit awkward but its the slide show towards the bottom of the page
that showed me more intriguing discoveries. If I was still teaching I would fit that into a
lesson plan.
@scaryb Capaldi plays someone going a little nuts and does a little Missy-ish impression there.
Also he wears a trench coat in the scene with the fez and I think that 10 Doc’s coat was sort of
trench-like? Little strange but nice with some really funny bits8 March 2015 at 20:49 #38629Funny flick with Capaldi Jennifer Saunders and Robbie Coltrane + CapDoc wears a Fez at 12:03-ish!
some one with more tech savvy should pull a still shot of the fez to post on one of the Who sites?
8 March 2015 at 19:01 #38627Hi – So since everyone is trending towards talking about ancient stuff I thought I might share this
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/03/07/oldest-human-brain-mud_n_6810670.html?ncid=fcbklnkushpmg00000063These are all sorts of new ‘ancient’ discoveries and there is some Roman in Japan and Viking etc.
Lots of surprises for everyone’s enjoyment – I always liked the historical Who stories and I hope
we get 1 in season 9!8 March 2015 at 04:04 #38607@ichabod and @Purofilion About a kitchen on the Tardis – ok maybe but apparently no oven
Why did Clara cook her turkey under ‘the hood’ so to speak in Time of the Doctor?
But I know we aren’t the only folks that suffer great anxiety over such details 🙂
I think there might of been a reason – anybody recall it?8 March 2015 at 02:50 #38604@purofilion – Its just not the same adventure when there’s lots of eating and sleeping.
As for eating on the planet of the people made of ears I think he probably uses his
sonic on the local atm to pinch a few quid – but that’s just my bonkers theory 🙂8 March 2015 at 00:34 #38601@ichabod The record log Tom Doc went into was not on the Tardis it was on Galifrey. That was
another Master story btw where he was creating pretty much the same havoc. A good episode
however and gives a little glimpse of Timelord culture8 March 2015 at 00:09 #38599@ichabod – River kept a diary. So I think the Tardis must keep some sort of backup record. I know
they kept records on Galifrey. I recall in the ‘Deadly Assassin’ TOMDoc traveled into the record
keeping machine or something like that.7 March 2015 at 20:05 #38591@mudlark Totally agreed – regarding dark in the written documentation but rich in so many other attributes.
Its a worthy time in western history in terms of exploration and how we progressed into who we are now.
Sad that literacy was so exclusive then. Sadly reminds me of those in the USA that use religion to denigrate
science literacy even in the present era! So what is that about??? Are these folks so afraid of scientific
truths that they chose to cloak themselves from reality? In the future will we be seen by some as dark in
a similar respect? No idea but even the Doctor still likes to think of himself as a traveling idiot so how
do you know? @bluesqueakpip – at least I think the hygiene bit has much improved cause dirty is appalling
and clean is a so much improved condition. 🙂7 March 2015 at 18:18 #38584@Janette and @ichabod – So yeah – maybe I do have a bit of prima donna to my attitude and no I don’t
mind – so cement has been an interesting aspect in western culture to move water which helped to create
cities which in turn helped to create that thing that happens when folks come together and agree to
make compromise — and then the dark ages which why do we refer to this period as being so dark anyway?
So maybe this was philosophically being examined during the renaissance as to the idea of comfort
but I would gently examine the possibility that human folks were always after the comfort place all thru
human history! Since way back before ancient records. In which case — fleas and injuries and schlepping
aside this is why the Vikings moved onto other places to find ideas to bring back and improve there
societies. So in the back of my mind Doctor Who is in the great grand arc about improving the social
order too. But there are obstacles. This is how life is whether human or Timelord. It sort of in a way
makes us all equivant species. However I still don’t equate all this with being positive notions or
negative either — its just how species evolve.7 March 2015 at 03:52 #38564I like that we all get to time travel thru books and tv and the net that we are all lucky to have
brains sophisticated enough to explore all of this stuff
To go time traveling like the Doctor does in his blue box in the realm of the gods is a great idea
but personally I rather be the observer. You really have to have a very adventuring spirit to be with
the Doctor. As much as I like traveling I still rather take more peaceful trips. The Doctors
companions don’t seem to get much of that. They are too busy unlocking the secrets of the universe.
Plus even though it transforms them I don’t correlate that with being always a positive either.
But I still appreciate that they all have given us the ability to ‘visit’ with them and enjoy
all the magic of their journeys.5 March 2015 at 19:30 #38530@ichabod – So about this ‘wonderful game’ ! Because can anyone ever love a thing more than
this has been? Like you I find that I’m also overwhelmingly engaged in spite of myself.
Believe me – I’ve even tried to take a quiet corner break away and failed lol!5 March 2015 at 16:18 #38512Paul Kaye or “Prentis” is in episodes 1-4 in series 9 – does that mean new companion ?
5 March 2015 at 03:33 #38506Watched this again. What a good episode! Missy the lunatic going back and forth on the Doctors
timeline and making all those meticulous plans for something really big but never quite sufficiently.
Wondering about how she zaps in and out of the matrix? She might be a program. That implies maybe more
than 1 Missy. Could matrix Missy be the familiar?27 February 2015 at 18:51 #3834126 February 2015 at 20:56 #38326@scaryb – didn’t quite catch what all the said but no matter cause I could still ‘feel’
what they said in that clip of ‘That Sinking Feeling’ which was what you need to ultimately
have in any successful and brilliant film ! thanks so much for sharingAlways loved the ‘Local Hero’ flick! It hit a nerve from the first viewing and remains
a favorite all thru the years!26 February 2015 at 16:47 #38321@schamster – So when all the Time lords came to the save Galifrey party maybe it didn’t even matter
if Capdoc remembers cause when Smithdoc spoke to TomDoc in the gallery TomDoc told him he would need
to search for Galifrey and at that specific moment he wasn’t crossing any time line. Therefore, Capdoc
should be able to recall SmithDocs memories of this event having happened IMHO.
But during that conversation between Smithdoc and Tomdoc he was already back in his own timeline
remembering what had happened! That’s the bit that still makes me confused. As far as Smithdoc saying
he forgets he also lies. I think he says that when either too embarrassed or needing to manipulate a
situation
Still I hope that SM does revisit all of this thru Capdoc ! I have always thought that would be extremely helpful to explain the loopholes. As far as the barn goes– I tend to think its the same barn we see both
times only the environments around it are completely changed from the ravages of war – farmland turned to
desert dust.26 February 2015 at 01:35 #38313@schamster – Doesn’t Capdoc remember himself being there thru memories he inherited from
the SmithDoc? Because SmithDoc knows that he showed up SmithDoc must recall that specific
moment and how they all came together and why. While I agree there would have to be
numerous holes in his memories of the event I have to think still that he has to have
a rough idea of his general involvement. Also like you I absolutely agree he went there
not just to save Galifrey but also to search for where it was left. Would love to see that
whole event revisited thru the Capdoc’s perspective!25 February 2015 at 23:33 #38307@Barbara Lefty Why am I ‘not’ totally convinced that Capdoc crossed his time line in that 50th
anniversary scene? I still think its possible that he knows about the incident of saving
Galifrey which is why he began searching for it[chalkboards] as soon as he starting getting his
mind back from regenerating? I think he didn’t forget any of that.
It is a tangled conundrum but I still think this might be so25 February 2015 at 21:31 #38297@ichabod – I am very inclined to read the 8th Doctor Who novel ‘the Shadows of Avalon’ for 2 reasons –
1- the Doctor refers to himself as Merlin in this novel [and also in the 7th Doctor episode
called ‘Battlfield’] but also because
2- in the novel there is a king Constantine that creates an entire alternate state reality called Avalon
with the help of Galifreyan interventionists and he does it completely thru sleeping and dreaming it allAnyway, I thought I would share that cause you mentioned the notion of a dream being an alternate
reality which is what this novel is25 February 2015 at 04:34 #38281@scaryb exactly- how can you not exist and still show up? well- realistically there are
some plot holes – I going to go mash up a few jelly babies now 🙂25 February 2015 at 04:17 #38278@scaryb yeah but but but –lol I’ve been trying to twist my head around that time stream idea too.
HurtDoc was brought forward in a time stream event an CapDoc must have been brought back???
So does that still have the same effect on memories. So I know it took him some time to get
his thoughts together after regeneration but it wasn’t long before he leaped onto searching for
Galifrey.
I never thought that Clara was keeping the secret about being under the bed had anything to
do with time locked Galifrey but instead is was all to do with that particular incident taking place.
also I sort of was thinking that Clara being surprised to see Capdoc was not because she didn’t
recognize him as much as that she was in shock that it happened to her? That’s been my take@ichabod -yeah tell me abut it!! Geeze louise!! love the mysteries but the frustration not so much
25 February 2015 at 03:19 #38275@bluesqueakpip @scaryb @Shamster – Can someone explain to me if we are supposed to be
thinking that Clara recalls everything that happened in the freezing of Galifrey? So
it all happened in ‘normal time’ for her so she should be able to recall all of it.
So she knows that he was there with all the other timelords
She and Capdoc must have conversations about that and also about all his calculations
on the chalk boards which have to be all about Galifrey? She might think that going back
into Galifrey’s past could make sense because it was before it became time locked? She
might not even realize that she has any secrets about that? Not sure that I’m making
sense but it just seems to me that Capdoc must be retaining SmithDocs memories of the
events and that Clara doesn’t know what she doesn’t know? What do you all think about all that?23 February 2015 at 04:54 #38238@scaryb So I watched Battlefield and found it interesting I think in particular because
of the Doctor aka ‘Merlin’ idea. Knowing how SM likes to pull bits and pieces together in
his grand story arcs and so there might be something there connecting into the next season.
Its fun to try and guess about that. The older stories don’t carry the same gravitas
for me. With the exception of Tom Baker’s series but that was largely because I liked
how he played the Doctor. He was for me the definitive mad quirky benevolent alien.
Gasped when he showed up in the 50th, it was 1 of my favorite bits
Battlefield left me feeling it was done a bit clumsy. The structure and complexity
of AG who is a great deal more appealing for me. Its all the little bits and pieces
I get to unravel that I cant get from BG Who is what I suppose it comes down to.23 February 2015 at 01:14 #38226I don’t understand how the Doctor has missed this concept because he has traveled thru this
E and N space thing before ? Although maybe he does know that but also knows using
negative coordinates to travel between the 2 universes is difficult and dangerous which
might have been why he was so frustrated and upset in that Tardis scene. Maybe we are all
assuming that he hasn’t found Galifrey but could it be not so much about finding it but really
all about how he is going to get to it? That just might take some “magic’23 February 2015 at 00:51 #38221@schamster — I recall that was an alternate universe that Romama chose to stay behind in?
So wouldn’t the Curator Doctor Tom have known this? He might have mentioned it at the time of
his meeting SmithDoc in the museum or a least a clue! I guess he felt he had a good reason
not to but this is all very interesting22 February 2015 at 20:39 #3819921 February 2015 at 22:47 #38179Just sharing a delicious piece of a TED talk from the mind of Mr. Walker

There is something about people that are innovators like this guy that make me feel
a bit like they have some Doctor Who inside their souls!20 February 2015 at 01:41 #38133I’m wondering if that is a vortex manipulator that Missy has on her wrist in this
I’m back’ vid? I saw this being suggested in another place.17 February 2015 at 21:14 #38066some Doctor Who treats! Also, on You Tube check out the ‘John Smith’ channel for a lot more of the same
creative vids.14 February 2015 at 01:10 #37998this is the right video regarding the above post –[-sorry @craig !!
big goof on the cut paste thing again-]14 February 2015 at 01:07 #37997@scaryb Thanks for sharing that article with me about the book artist!
I have become inspired and currently I’m making one similar to what is in this
video. I went scrounging around at salvation army book racks and found
some great gardening books with lots of interesting flowering hedges and
scrubs and trees and I hope to make something ‘hobbit-y’ lol I even have
been to the craft store and invested in some good cutting tools. I’ve also ordered
some new big finish to listen to while I’m creating. all set!Happy Friday the 13th to everyone!
some9 February 2015 at 02:17 #37907I am a unapologetic ‘voyeur’ of other peoples conversations and lectures and discussions
about authors and their books. It helps me to become a better reader. I follow “Story time
in the Library’ which is a regular UC Berkeley event. I went back to find this 18 February 2015 at 19:28 #37903https://www.facebook.com/bookshelfporn
a Facebook blog about creative ways to display our book collections
6 February 2015 at 22:05 #37852Wow! Really interesting conceptual art using books! I wonder what he could do with a few
Doctor Who graphic novels? Got me wondering…6 February 2015 at 21:56 #37851@discostupac – Thank you so much! Very much appreciated. Those folks created a really very effecting
story and at the same time utterly twisted on so many levels. I found myself empathizing with all those
different characters in spite of the extremely peculiar life choices.:)
I’m so glad you popped in today!6 February 2015 at 00:18 #37827@ichabod — I had forgotten about Afterlife – I thought that was quite good in large part because
of the acting but the story arc was interesting as well. Lesley Sharp {the woman in Doctor Who’s
Midnight episode who was invaded by the alien] is 1 of the main Characters and the other main is
Andrew Lincoln is from that recent Zombie show [name of which drawing blankness] are in Afterlife.
Definitely worth a peak !
Can anyone tell me the name of the series with the clown that had the hook hand? It had the mother
and son freaky duo and the toy collector guy and a cast of the most peculiar eccentric lunatics ever!
I was so a fan of that some years back when I found it on You Tube. They pulled it down before I
got to the end.5 February 2015 at 00:23 #37814I got an interesting vid from my brother today– he always sends me a lot of this 🙂
4 February 2015 at 20:27 #37809Neil Gaiman’s new anthology of various short stories includes a touch of some Doctor Who and
I imagine many other treats –here is a book review I found4 February 2015 at 03:09 #377954 February 2015 at 02:40 #37794@ichabod – Your right about Farscape– the first season or so they paid more attention to the
character development and interactions which was very interesting but from the time Moya
gave birth to battleship jr. and the ditching of Zhan [the blue alien that was a plant] it turned
a corner into having a pre-occupation with ‘war games’ and it felt like there was 1 attack each episode.
But I watched until it was finally over. They said it was canceled cause it became too expensive.
I assumed but don’t know for a fact that the shows creator Rockne O’Bannon just had less
influence over the show thru the ongoing seasons. Or maybe I just decided it was so?
In any case it was INO a really well conceived good series. There was also Babylon 5 that was just
before the time of Farscape. So when that was cancelled it wasn’t long before Farscape
showed up to fill ‘my aliens in the far reaches of the galaxies fix’. They were some of my favorites
until Doctor Who started again and filled the next tv sci-fi gap for me.
Hard to find Babylon 5 online but I’m sure it is around2 February 2015 at 02:52 #377571 February 2015 at 21:11 #37749@Purofilion Sharing a piece with you that I just read about Seneca cause I’m thinking
your a fan of the old philosophers – apparently there are some new books coming out about himhttp://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2015/02/02/stoic-2?mbid=social_facebook
1 February 2015 at 02:36 #37733@Purofilion – I agree about there being little chance any time soon on seeing the
amendment on campaign finance change being brought forward again. Big bummer that!!
Regarding the lobbies look at all the billions that the Koch Brothers are throwing
at their wholly owned lobby groups plus at elections too! In spite of all the
buying of politicians Obama is vetoing the pipeline they want so badly.
This money situation is getting worse and we need to put some back stops in place
I do think that there has been a lot stories on slow boil here about fairness – I think
continued growing awareness brings about social changes. Even the Pope has done a little.
I will try to remain ever optimistic,1 February 2015 at 01:54 #37731@Purofilion I’m ok about it but how about taking on the issue of money in politics buying politicians?
It is all about government over reach when you are a libertarian like Paul. Although I do agree that
the criminal justice system needs some changes. I would absolutely like to see some debate begin.1 February 2015 at 01:40 #37730@Purofilion Here in the states we are facing exacting the same as what you just described however
it has improved marginally with the economic growth. I would be willing to bet that the government
will pass an infrastructure bill and that will give us an additional boost. In Australia you
were very connected to the China boom and since they are shrinking its going to probably have
some effects on you. There are issues in education in almost every country I read about. I used
to be a special education teacher with teens from 13 tbru 18. To be honest programs have gotten
better for them broadly but that is in part because special ed took some chunks of money from regular
ed budgets. There some amazing school districts and some real dogs. Its often about paying
to live in good school districts in most places here – not everywhere but mostly. I’d be willing
to bet in OZ its much the same1 February 2015 at 01:12 #37727@WScaryB @ichabod @all … I’m quite concerned about the next big election in the states
Although Sen Paul is the most dovish I don’t agree with his social politics and we will
not in any case get someone like Obama again for a while. I know he has his faults but
I like his progressive tendancies. Even if I were going with Clinton [and at this point I
think she’s it] she is also a bit of a hawk. The cork has popped on Planet Earth.
I have no desire to see the U S sticking our nose inappropriately in more political affairs.
I noticed how Obama has taken a extremely different foreign affairs strategy then what
has been typical in years past and its really messing with the republicans head trips
but I respect him for attempting to be something new!1 February 2015 at 00:34 #37721@bluesqueakpip and ScaryB – Cpadoc’s console space is like the favorite space of someone
who has lived in the same home for a very long time. Its beautifully conceived
stagecraft in the way it makes him look like 1 of us. It could be like every ones genius
Dad or possibly the brilliant uncle just hanging out in his “Sherlock” room. Yhere are
a lot of more ‘humanized’ aspects and its partly because of these decorating choices.31 January 2015 at 05:22 #37699 -
