@blenkinsopthebrave. That is very Red Dwarf. The Ouroboros episode where Lister becomes his own father.
Another random speculation, is Ruby the Doctor’s mother. Now that I would hate. In some way Ruby is the opposite of Clara who is a “perfectly normal girl”, with parents, anchored in reality, who does something to make her extraordinary. Ruby…[Read more]

Glyngatwg means “Valley of the Cat” apparently:

I wonder if the pub name, Y Pren Marw, which means “The Dead Wood” according to Martin Bellam on T’Other Place, together with “The Valley of the Cat” are both tributes to stories by that master of weird folk horror Algernon…[Read more]

Anyone checked out the name of the Welsh village for Thomasite Llareggyb meaning? I don’t have head for unlikely combination of consonants.
Llareggyb is the name of the village in Under Milk Wood, by Dylan Thomas (hence Thomasite, I presume. The y in Welsh is pronounced more like u. Try saying it backwards with the double L as in En…[Read more]

Back to Boom – interesting image from the first scene, which is at the head of this page – a blinded (and blindfolded) soldier stumbling around with a big gun. Very metaphorical. It also reminds me of something but I can’t think what yet… It does put me in mind of the art from 1980s 2000 AD – particularly Ezquerra, Brian Bolland. E…

Is Ruby human or Timelord? River only became a Timelady because she was exposed in vivo to The Vortex.
Well Rory believed/chose to accept that.
Well I snorted at that – poor faithful old Rory – but of course if what you imply were the alternative, the Doctor would, in marrying River, have actually married his own daughter so……[Read more]

@ps1l0v3y0u They’d take to controlling the metal caseings really well…
I’m envisioning Dalek’s advancing, spinning slightly, towards someone electronically demanding CUD-DLE-ME! They could be the most terrifying iteration of the species yet.

Yeah, lots of previous themes and Moffat-isms.
This more rounded episode contrasted curiously with the 2 preceding. You would hope RTD is aware they were lacking and where. Will those stories be filled out or completed in the arc?
There was quite the contrast, and I’d say with all the previous eps right back to The Star Beast.
If RTD…[Read more]

@Miapatrick I thought he said “run” but then also went to hide – which is what Ruby commented on. “Run” is definitely the Dr’s thing, as you said. Need to watch again, as I may (very well) be wrong..
@ps1l0v3y0u I wasn’t having a go at you, your comment just brought back vivid memories of how snowy that year was. (Maybe it’s the alternate…[Read more]

There are so many lovely little moments in this!
The Doctor and Ruby on the rooftop of Abbey Road (as the Beatles would/will be in about 6 years time), but also the doctor looking wistfully over to Shoreditch (and Totter’s lane). Is his old/younger self there yet? Susan was at school there for a while so maybe they are. (Haha – the Doctor’s been…[Read more]

@ps1l0v3y0u I wonder if SLC stands for the material the 45s and LPs are available on? Perhaps it is short for “shellac” which was of course the material records were made of before vinyl.
As vinyl replaced shellac from the 1940s, perhaps this is another sign that we are in alternative time-line/ universe, one in which vinyl has not been…[Read more]

@janetteb I think Mavity was one of the readings on the screen, though I can’t be sure, I’ve not re-wathced yet.
But yes – so nice to speculate! I think, even when I enjoyed quite a few of Chib’s episodes more than I have these last two, they didn’t give me as much to think about and say.
@ps1l0v3y0u: indeed. But holy high expectations. I don’t…[Read more]

@mudlark and @ps1l0v3y0u Yes I realised after I posted that the Margaret Lockwood reference was probably a link to the bandit character she played, ie Me. Probably just a nod for fans but may hint that she knows “things” about the Doctor.
cheers

I just typed a very long post (beginning by agreeing with your point about 1925, of course) which, needless to say, disappeared somewhere into the depths of the internet when I tried posting.
Here is the truncated version of that post:
I think what RTD is doing here is somewhat similar to what he did with his miniseries “Years and…[Read more]

Missed the Chris Waites (& The Carrollers) banner, nice spot. Apparently it’s an Easter egg – a reference back to the very first eisode:

Doesn’t rule it out being a current “bad wolf” type hint as well tho.

So if the One Who Waits is almost here, is Christmas going to happen in summer? Which would be the right kind of havoc. (Tho actually not so far from reality…)
SLC has to mean something, agreed.

Yeah, the obvious interpretation is “Christmas Waits”. Given Ruby’s origin it seems to be going that way. Is “The one who waits” Father Christmas (or Kris Kringle)?

Hi @JanetteB
The Christmas Invasion – thank you.
