@gamergirlavatar Very well said on all points. I had mixed feelings initially about the choice of new Doctor, especially as the only roles I have seen Jodie W’ in are not very Doctorish but she is clearly a fine actor and so I look forward to seeing her as the Doctor because I think she will bring something fresh and new to the role and I also…[Read more]

Thanks @missy, first let me say that I’m glad your going to at least watch the first two episodes to see if you like them and at one point, I stopped watching Doctor Who after I gave the 10th Doctor a chance so I completely understand why you might stop watching. Also, I understand the concern about political correctness influencing the casting…[Read more]

I too think that Steven Moffat did the right thing if he felt that he was becoming stale, but like you I’m not keen on Mr. Chibnall. However, he won’t be writing all the episodes, so there is hope. But JW? Three companions?
What with that outfit and three companions, it feels like a spoof of Doctor Who to me.
Why does it…[Read more]

@ichabod Cogratulations on getting your frisky back! It must be exciting to guest lecture and then discuss your work with others.
@thane16 Curly hair is good and I should know, being tall is great (although I am not personally aquainted with it) and acne goes away although it sucks till it does. Have a wonderful year! -

@ichabod you have pretty much summed it up there. Within the “narrative” there is no reason for the Doctor not to be female. It has long been established that regeneration is “a bit of a lottery”. Given that concepts of gender are less fixed now than in the past and in the future will become far more fluid there is every reason for the show to…[Read more]

Aw shucks that was awfully decent of you!
Yes, I am now 16. And my acne has really set in. On a positive note, my hair is turning curly and I’m taller.
Thank you :

Not at all, you should be able to. I typed BBC Radio 4 Extra onto google and up it came. Then I bookmarked it.
If you can find it, do try TRACKS: starring Romala Garai. It’s under DRAMA, 5/6 episodes I think.

@ichabod Interesting comment re’ people being “excavated electronically”. I have done just that in the last year. We knew nothing about my s/o ancestors, not even their names. I discovered that they lived two blocks from us, delved into historical records on line, (not ancestry which I found was mostly rubbish) and discovered so much information…[Read more]

IMO, the reason is that it isn’t mediocre but so much better than that, that the “lows” can’t hold the rest down. And I think that Moffat-Capaldi-and-all achieved so much *despite* the lapses and flat bits etc. that it’s the intimations of depth that grab you even in stories that are spinning out of control.
I’m very curious to s…[Read more]

Mudlark replied to the topic Peter Capaldi as the 12th Doctor
It seems that we think alike about the 12th Doctor’s resistance to the prospect of regeneration, and for very much the same reasons. Growth and change are a part of life’s process, and on the whole are to be welcomed; but the abrupt changes involved in the successive regenerations of the Doctor are not of the same order as gradual…[Read more]

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FOR LAST SUNDAY M’DEAR.
I understand what you say ichi. At 79 I feel much the same as you. Every year is a new adventure, a new experience waiting in the wings. Life never really stands still, and if you look hard, there is always something to look forward to.
Not self indulgent, thoughtful, and honest. I don’t believe…[Read more]

Well, Peter Doc did say he would not change, and who is the one wearing the cloak?
What a lovely thought. *sigh*

oooh @ichabod , maybe its me but I always think “damsel in distress” which is not what I think of the Doctor (and thankfully we’ve kinda moved on from culturally).

@ichabod Yeah, the Monks trilogy seemed ill-fated by the fates. Moffat only had the onscreen writing credits on “Extremis” (solo) and “Pyramid at the End of the World” (with Harness), the latter being the one he was working on at his mum’s hospital bedside. (sniffle) “Pyramid”, of course, wound up muddling its point by having so many c…[Read more]

I get the impression that Gallifrey isn’t a planet awash in love even for its own,
To put it mildly. Clara calls them out as ‘monsters’ – correctly, I think. One of the costumiers also put some […]
