    No, you don’t have to pay the license fee for every TV in the house. One license covers the entire household, whether they have only one TV set or one in every room in the building. It also covers the use of computers to view BBC programmes on iPlayer, so even if you don’t have a TV set at all, and watch all TV programmes on a computer, yo…[Read more]

    @janetteb @missy and @ichabod   I liked the tank and the guitar and the “idea” of the sonic glasses but I love PC’s expressive eyes which tell so much of the story that I don’t like them covered up. Anyone else think the Doctor is just a little more soft and fuzzy this series? I want to give him a cuddle.

  • Mudlark replied to the topic The Maldovarium

    @Missy

    Do you still need a licence?

    Yes we do. Currently it is £145.50 a year, which in my view is stonkingly good value for the range of services and the variety of programmes the BBC provides.

    @missy  Or — was that Missy he played it for?  Or both, when he spotted them on the battlement above?

  • ichabod replied to the topic Smile

    @mersey  So — “Loose clues drop shoes” and other war-time slogans . . .  Yes, I’m on Eco’s side but Barthes is no dope, and writers of both inclinations have lots of fans who love their work.  I will miss Moffat — more, or less, depending on what Chibnall does in his turn.  I hope he delivers more of what you’re looking for.

    @missy What if you…[Read more]

    @missy— SM talks about it in the After Show interview for this episode, which I think @craig has posted on this thread. You should be able to find it if you scroll back a couple of pages…

    thanks to @wolfweed for posting. Hopefully this scene will make it onto the DVD release… in fact, what with that and the ‘missing’ Dalek scene, is there an…[Read more]

    All this streaming and ipads are beyond me I’m afraid, I don’t even possess a mobile phone.  What if you can’t stream or haven’t got an ipad? Then what?  Wait until you can buy the series?

    It’s not essential to have a tablet. A media box plugged into your TV can provide access to streaming services (there are good options there, eg Chrome…[Read more]

    It must be some other show you’re thinking of — perhaps one specific to your region? The ‘official’ after show is definitely Christel. Here’s this week’s btw, with a cracking interview with Peter Capaldi, replete with some interesting tidbits on his take on the Doctor’s character, the discovery of alien life and the usual gubbins about…[Read more]

    You may perhaps be unaware that the crime of manslaughter exists precisely because it is possible to cause a great deal of damage without intending it.

    However, someone who unintentionally offends would never be aware enough to say ‘no offense’. That’s a get out of jail free phrase used when the poster knows exactly how offensive they’ve…[Read more]

    Probably the same sort of people who celebrate the invasion of someone else’s country, and the establishment of a prison. No offence.

    It’s very easy to revise history so that it becomes a tale of oppression and victimisation. I mean, heck, you can rewrite the Doctor as someone drenched in blood and in the death of civilisations. He…[Read more]

    Handy tip for future reference: putting “no offence” after something really offensive doesn’t neutralise it.

    Last week I thought the presenter was rather silly and not a true DW fan. He was just doing a job. That was my impression anyway

    Think that’s a bit unfair. Christel Dee is a long-term YouTuber with serious Who tendencies and was doing really rather good fan vlogs for quite some time now. That the BBC has taken on her show as the…[Read more]

    I was astonished that you didn’t think these episodes ‘didn’t hold up’ compared to MS’s series

    Hang in there!  If my experience is anything to go by the dry eye does clear up eventually.  The first eye to be done was much the worse affected and the syndrome lasted about six weeks. With the other eye it was, as I said, only a problem first thing when I woke in the morning.  Hypromelose, incidentally, is the active ingredient in th…[Read more]

    Re the cataract surgery: I had problems with dry eye syndrome after the first eye was done – as you say, it felt sometimes as if I had grit in the eye, but on the advice of my local pharmacist I used hypromelose drops, which were very effective in alleviating the problem. With the second, right eye, there have been fewer after effects,…[Read more]

    @missy — fair enough. The After Show is very good and it’s been posted up-thread a bit. It’s well worth checking out for the interview with SM and Pearl Mackie. But basically the Dalek scene was cut because it affected the pace of the episode.

  • nerys replied to the topic The Pilot

    @theconsultingdoctor I wasn’t expecting this to be such a creepy episode, I guess going a bit back to Moffat’s early writing style. As much as I dislike horror, this episode was enjoyable. It wasn’t overdone. There were plenty of good jokes and also a few sweet, emotional scenes as well.
