For preference they should be eaten with lemon juice and sugar

By which you mean that is how you prefer them. Much as lemon and sugar gives me warm memories of mum, pre-diabetes I would happily swamp them in maple syrup, for the simple reason that maple syrup is the greatest creation of nature But there are…[Read more]

Ta for the kind words. It was an unexpectedly challenging shoot, since for the first week of March the sun was high and bright, so contrast from heavy was a real problem.

The pancake race itself has run since 1445 and is open ONLY to the women of the town (pop c8000). Legend has it that it started when the wife…[Read more]

I tried to find the lyrics and discovered that the lyricist went through their own conversion – quite a story.

Written in Olney, and one of the Olney Hymns.

And with that in mind, gratuitous excuse to show photos from this year’s Olney Pancake Race (annual since 1445).Click pic for m…[Read more]

Yeah, not really trying there are you?

It wasn’t Woodstock, it was Monterrey. You can see at the beginning of the clip where a myth might come from. The bemused crowd is a joy.

So sorry for your loss – even though in some ways the release from Alzheimer’s could be seen as a mercy, it is still brutal when it comes,

Buffy: Was it sudden?

Tara: No…..Yes – it’s always sudden.

Very good – A Bit of Fry and Laurie varied from outstanding to a a bit try-hard, but a scary number of their skits have all aged too well.

OK, time to go all in with the 80s politics. Spitting Image.

It is crucial to grasp, for this, that a) the thug PW Botha was still very much in charge and the idea of Nelson Mandela being…[Read more]

Not really hi. At that time – 77-78 – all sorts of things had been unleashed by punk/ new wave, but very few of us completely abandoned the music that had shaped us before. Also my cohort was also quite politicised (especially by today’s standards).

So nobody has bitten on Plaistow Patricia, then?

That apparently random text is to try to evade spam filters. You see that sort of thing in spam email quite often (although less than you used to).

@whisht

Now that’s a story.

My nearest is a fifth-former, when I was in 6th and in charge of the stage sound booth, trying to trick me into playing Plaistow Patricia to morning assembly. It hadn’t occurred to the tedious little shit that I was totally familiar with it (someone else can post it though1).

Besides, I already chosen this which…[Read more]

Heh.

The Jessops (photo gear store) in Milton Keynes is occasionally prone to piping out really abstract expressionist jazz – I call the times they do this “We don’t want no steenkin’ customers” days

@whisht @geoffers @thane16

The thing you have to keep asking yourselves is “How likely is this to turn up on a grocery store mix tape”?

@whisht

Heh. People forget just how experimental that period from about 1968 to about 1973 was (although I think part of the issue here is that it is a TV mix, which was notoriously difficult in those days).

Any excuse:

This is the dullest bunch of superheroes out there.

They aren’t superheroes. They are people. One of them has two hearts and a big brain, but still not a superhero.

@thane16

Errr…sorry…do people not know what as “ex” is? Is that unexpectedly English  idiom?
