No, that’s Gene Krantz (memorable played by Ed Harris in Apollo 13).

Not me, which given my status as acolyte of the Church of the Blessed Kendrick is a bit of an oversight.

Isn’t Mork Mindy’s alien pal?

@winston

stays at home with the dog.

What’s the dog done to deserve that?!?!?!?

@thane16

So you are just going to let death by space toilet seat slide, eh? You’re losing your touch!

First Man is, indeed, a film with Ryan Gosling as Armstrong and the excellent Claire Foy as his wife. I was unaware of Wyck Godfrey, but First Man in some way atones for I, Robot which completely ignored the well defined nature of Asimov’s Robot…[Read more]

The answer to your question is found in this episode (if you click the Forums link at the top you will find a forum/ thread for pretty well every episode – this forum is for non-Who TV).

Couple of things:

Those in the UK with an Amazon Prime subscription (possibly other markets, don’t know) can enjoy Dead Like Me, an absolutely delightful and bittersweet, but sadly short-lived, series from 2003-04 (cancelled for reasons of internal Showtime politics, so no good reason). It is an early Bryan Fuller show and concerns Georgia Lass,…[Read more]

Olivier (with an i).

A lot of Shakespeare productions seem to induce excessive..er..actorliness… in the cast. I may be that, because they are stage plays, people get sucked into ‘projecting’ but the effect can be a little distancing in stories that are often quite intimate.

The other occasional source of coding text is when you copy…[Read more]

Only CapCom (capsule communications) is allowed to talk directly to the astronauts, and he is all they can hear. This was Charlie Duke, the guy with the slightly southern drawl who refers to people turning blue. I believe (but may be wrong) that CapCom is always a fellow astronaut (see also Ken Maddingley, Gary Sinese’s character in…[Read more]

To wrap this up, this is totally worth 20 mins pof your time. Both comms with Eagle AND the flight loop.There was a lot going on…

@thane16

Are you editing in Word or similar and then copy-and-pasting? If you do that you need to use the Text editor, not the visual one on this site. That stops the gubbins getting treated as text.

Indenting quotes is good style when you want a clear separation from what someone else said and what you are saying. As with many things, you…[Read more]

I have vague disclaimered for the first time in ages: Contact light?

@whisht

No, First Man with Ryan Gosling as Armstrong and Claire Foy outstanding as his wife. It caused a hoo-ha by not showing the flag planting, which got all the people who most deserve to spend their lives in impotent rage to spend a little more time doing so.

Dad got us (me, brother, sister) up and 4 in the morning (3 GMT) to watch it (no idea if schools had broken up for summer by then. It was a Monday).

But it didn’t stop with 11. The entire school was gathered in the main hall to watch the Apollo 12 walk…

Missing a trick, surely….

Every so often, a combination of great light, sudden movement and shallower than intended depth of field absolutely nails it:

@jimthefish

It should still be on Now TV, which has a monthly sub, asl long as you remember to cancel it (I used … ahem… other means, because the stench of Murdoch is not that easily removed). DVD/Bluray out later this month (and on order).

(Also can you look at user dfhghdfg05, who is, to quote the Artic Monkeys, not quite legitimate…

@winston

It is, indeed, a White Plumed Moth. First time I have ever seen one. Zoom it and it is like it has a face.

Is it just me, or would this dude, scaled up, make an awesome Who monster?

@craig @jimthefish

I think dfhghdfg05 might be a spammer. Just a hunch.

I imagine many of you have seen the hype surrounding Chernobyl, the HBO/ Sky Atlantic mini-series.

Every bit of the hype is justified. It is simply the best piece of storytelling you will see this year, or many other years, by an absolute mile. The acting is universally superb and unpretentious. The script is a masterclass in economy in telling a…[Read more]
