@cathannabel

Yeah! The tone, concept and execution of this ep were all good.

I could be very wrong on a number of details but I THINK the Montgomery bus policy wasn’t a matter of law per se but actually the bus company’s own rules. Diners may have had their own rules.

Clearly this representation of Miami is very conscious of Cuba… which rings true and was also a bit weird. Bastista kidnapping peopl…[Read more]

That was very enjoyable. Take aways…

This is definitely in The Mind Robberverse. I was a bit annoyed by the ‘don’t make me laff!’ ‘Why? Oh it’s the giggle!’ After which some letters fall off Rock’s credits on the OUTSIDE the cinema revealing… but it is the Doctor, who’s INSIDE, who says ‘hey it’s only the chuffing Harbinger!’ Well, if it…[Read more]

Was Susan a companion? Really? Just a Clara style e Missian lapdog? Wasn’t she the Original Time Lady?

Otherwise, this time around Varada Sethu is channeling Nichola Bryant circa Caves of Androzani. Sorry, I did look.

Not sure who Anita was dressed as…

I will check the rest of The Mind Robber, having watched it about 10 years back, but had a peek at episode 4… first broadcast Oct 5th 1968.

Key elements: fictional characters, Gulliver – first sci fi protagonist?; The Karkus – comic strip cartoon, Medusa – nice design; the ‘Master’ (pre Delgado) a human writer of pot-b…[Read more]

The Mind Robber… Wasn’t Fraser Hines stricken with Chicken Pox?

Just as well it was such a warped out weirdo story really. And Cold Turkey was sliding down the charts. And Mick had put the Stones’ Rock n Roll Circus on ice. And Roy Wood had managed to grow a tache.

@scaryb

Mrs Flood is the Vlinx? Nooo…

The Vlinx is the hardware running a Matrix or Data Slice on behalf the Valeyard, CEO of Villengard, and probably an incarnation of Dr Simeon, who was presumably also responsible for The Land of Fiction after he took time off from possessing Buddhists and Squaddies, and creating giant android hamsters aka T…[Read more]

Ok. I’m willing to stick my neck out on The Mindrobber link on the basis of October 5th from Boom. But the comic book robots do echo TMR’s weird clockwork soldiers. October 5th was episode 4 I think, have to rewatch it.

Otherwise the costume montage for Mrs Flood is quite startling.

And I’m still expecting a Vlinx reveal.

@bobbyfatv2 @cookgroom @whohar

also, the similarities of Mrs Flood’s dress sense to Romana 1 and Clara shown on the link does echo a recent debate about whether we saw the remains of the Blackpool or Eiffel Tower at the end of Robot Revolution. Although the Eiffel Tower actually links to Romana 2 of course.

On the other hand this debate is s…[Read more]

Yes v interesting! The Mind Robber was one of the only 3 DW serials broadcast on Oct 5th… the date quoted by 15 in Boom. The other 2 serials were Paradise Towers and Remembrance of the Daleks.

And the penultimate story of this season is ‘Wish World’?

Still wondering about Valeyard, Villengard and the Vlinx though.

RTD2 has been a curates egg. 50/50 so far, maybe 60/40 in favour.

Falling ratings… this is the significant measure. Also not. Lots of ‘big’ shows get cancelled. Flash Forward was a while ago. Was it that badly received? Severance won’t be cancelled but then it’s on a ‘grown up’ platform. And yes the ratings are great and the show is good: it’s th…[Read more]

RTD2 = JNT?? One fried cat does not an unfortunate partnership of an overpromoted showrunner and a script editor with a penchant for violence make.

It’s the presence of all those obvious construction lines that concerns me. Cartmel also made his construction lines very obvious and I’m not sure that always worked but…[Read more]

Eiffel Tower = Romana. Is Scaroth riding on the coattails of Stupid Sutekh?

Blackpool = Clara. Perhaps a ‘new’ American Diner is opening up on the Prom!

Hmmm. RTD2 seems to be trending slightly to the incoherent… NOT Chibnall crayon scrawl incoherence but it ain’t exactly the chutzpah laden clockwork of old is it?

But fair, if not VERY good.

Planet of The Incels would be a give away. Using the ‘I’ word was redundant really. We didn’t really need the Coercive Control Bomb either. The Testament…[Read more]

Severance is a brilliant dissection of Freaky Corporate Nonsense that is irrevocably changing the world. We particularly liked the ‘egg bar social.’ Although the original idea for Dot and Bubble was pitched 15 years ago, I wonder is Severence influenced the design.

Just a thought about Gatwa’s facial hair in this ep… someone else mentioned it… and it wasn’t apparent in other eps was it…? Was it??

Is this an attempt to help us empathise with Lindy? Two weird artificial worlds, what do you do your sensibilities to navigate virtual reality? Because I think the impression given is very very similar to the chara…[Read more]

The Doctor thinks it odd that Munday from Boom has rocked up…

People being ejected into space from something that is apparently NOT the Tardis: a classroom? a village hall? A diner???

No obviously familiar villains…

Gatwa deploying his rather arch ‘rock through time’ intonation. That could get a bit annoying.

Rylan Clark!

Otherwise… flashy.

Having given up on rewatching the Legend of Ruby Sunday, basically because I’m not that fond of UNIT, I found returning to The Giggle a bit hard work.

A lot of it was great, good acting, well visualised, and theres no problem with 14 surviving as a shell of man. Mel… for me she will always be a desperate attempt by JNT and Grade 40 years ago to…[Read more]
