Yes, I think we have got the Doctor’s timeline sorted. Everything in the episode apart from the opening scene happens before the events in The Robot Revolution.  Seventeen years after the first encounter Conrad sees the Tardis and the Doctor for the second time, now accompanied by Ruby, and gets the idea of using her as a me…[Read more]

He was introduced to Belinda when he encountered her and the Doctor on New Years Eve 2007, when he was a child

I am still trying to figure the timelines out here, so bear with me.

The Doc and Belinda meet a young Conrad in 2007, the Doc gives him the 50 pence piece.

Conrad then sees the Doc (with Ruby) in 2024

Conrad last sees the Doc…[Read more]

Knowing in advance that the writer was responsible for Kerblam and Praxis, I wasn’t particularly optimistic about this episode. And what about alien predators named Shreek … who shriek?  But the Shreek were of course just the mcguffin in this story and in the event I enjoyed it, if enjoyed is the right word. In fact the more I have reflected on…[Read more]

@nerys  @ps1l0v3y0u      It also threatens the New Zealand movie industry,  depending on the details of exactly what is going to be sanctioned, er, tariffed.    Probably tRump has no idea how he’s going to implement it.   Typical tRump, misses the target but causes the maximum collateral damage all over the place.

Short term it will harm the fi…[Read more]

You sum up my feelings about C S Lewis very well. I read the Narnia books when I was very young, and as I was brought up in a strongly Christian household accepted the Aslan = Jesus etc allegorical elements without really questioning them. But for the most part they stand without that, as I realised when I read them to my children…[Read more]

The Last Battle was one book that I respect. But it did make me think a lot, and the Narnia book series still holds up to this day. I enjoy the character development especially, and that reveal that Susan was going to a certain firey place shocked me a lot.

Can’t wait to see how Netflix adapts it. I sure am curious.

@ps1l0v3y0u Apparently this is aimed squarely at the Canadian film-making industry, which certainly is no powerhouse compared to Hollywood. But tax incentives here make it appealing to use Canadian locations as stand-ins for American ones, so apparently less and less is being filmed in Los Angeles and other traditional filming locations in…[Read more]

But Sutekh had supposedly perished in PoM, so anything is in play I think.

Some intetesting points here. I tend to agree that the optics of a black Doc being “bad” would tend to rule it out. It would be interesting though to have the Doc turn to the dark side as it were. And it ties into the idea of the bi-generation splitting the Doc into two (this sounds a bit…[Read more]

I loved it, but my brain is completely tied in knots with all the meta bits! 😛 (In a good way).

The Doctor and Mr Ring A Ding have lots of visual (and other) parallels – bow ties anyone? Blue suit? Picking up a (simpering, Betty Boop-alike) female companion (in a yellow dress!) as he starts an adventure…

I think I n…

Are you saying that RTD may be taking us into a fantasy world in part to retcon the worst excesses of the Chibnall era?.

But also to explain away the many and inevitable anomalies and inconsistencies of a 60+ year old sci-fi / fantasy show? Interesting.

Some random thoughts:

1. Can you retcon the entire show in a way that would not…[Read more]

@ps1l0v3y0u   I hadn’t known that about DSotM.    Or if I did, I’d forgotten it.

I suspect Thorgerson came up with the Newton’s Prism idea first (and all the Floyd immediately said ‘that one!’ according to, I think, Dave Gilmour).   And so the pyramid link was merely inspired by similarity of shape.  But that’s just my guess.

Also, of course,…[Read more]

@ps1l0v3y0u   I do realise that Sarah did hit the gelignite, and Sutekh suppressed the explosion, though not for long enough.   As Derek Lowe said in one of his brief but entertaining essays, Nitrogen atoms really do want to be free.   Though nitroglycerine is notoriously fickle.

It wasn’t Sarah’s marksmanship I was doubting, but whether she’d…[Read more]

Was Susan a companion?

Very definitely! She was the original you might say 😉 (Whether she was also a Time Lady is up for discussion)

An enjoyable ep. A bit trippy and very meta at times. I liked the joke about Mr Ring a ding not having emotions as he was a two dimensional character

24th May is the airing of the penultimate episode.

I also had the same thought about the regen scene.

And, yes, I was also confused by how the Doc saw the…[Read more]

@ps1l0v3y0u  He was indeed, and he has my sympathies–60 years too late.

But the way he was replaced could only have happened in the context of the story in “The Mind Robber”, which I think of as really enjoyable romp between reality and fiction and back again.

I love you guys!! (Waves at everyone).

I nip off for a couple of days and I come back to a whole bunch of bonkers theories! (Puppies, doors, maybe – but it’s still great fun).
