Never seen those docs before, and as Stripped for Action focuses as much (if not more) on the artists, they’re just wonderful for me!

I never read Doctor Who magazine or the strips and only recently read the few that you, @wolfweed and @jimthefish linked to by Moore etc.
I’m in awe of the skill of those illustrators who can paint and draw strips to tight deadlines.

Hi @Shazzbot – I’ve actually posted the songs on that particular page as links rather than embedded yootoob videos, so it should load ok. Just one embed on the whole page.

Now, I think that fewer people will bother clicking links rather than embedded videos, but I did think that if I was gonna smother a post with songs, it’d defeat the object if there were a ton of video embeds to navigate and download.

Can’t promise though that I won’t embed a video in future though, but so far, that page is ok (just use the Recent posts link).

as for the beeb…. I’m wondering whether all the recent years’ turmoil meant that maybe there weren’t the right people in place for sign-offs of Who projects… but that’s really just me making excuses on their behalf. Unlike others here, I have no idea about commissioning and stuff.

Hi @craig (and anyone else who runs forums – I think a couple of people here mentioned they do),

just a quick question (and no hurry in answering!).

I’ve come across a rule-of-thumb that online communities have a 90:9:1 ratio of lurkers, commenters and authors (ie for every one person writing a piece, there are nine people who might comment and ninety who might lurk and read).

Not sure how accurate that rule-of-thumb actually is (and probably differs between communities and interests/subject matters) but just wondered if this forum was typical/ atypical.

As I say, just curious but its not keeping me up at night!

yep @osakahatter – while in the track she has memories, but once scattered she enters the particular timeline as a baby (and really, the whole plot device shatters before our eyes, as she’d have to be in the track, see the GI defeating the Doctor, go back 26 years to somewhere that will allow her unexisting life to exist and miraculously appear at the right time and know what to do to defeat the GI (an incredibly powerful being).

But, that’d be as daft as painting “duck” on a wall and making that work for people years later to avoid a thrown object.

ah @scaryb and @htpbdet – I think this is the thing I’m trying to get at (really really sorry I’m not being clear – memo to self: stop being tired! 🙂 )

The scar itself is at least one of the things that the Doctor needs to hide.
It is a unique anomaly – only he has travelled through time and space as much, so his scar is far greater than other Timelords. Any TL scar gives access to the times and space that a TL visited (until the scar heals).
The Doctor’s scar just offers so many more times and space to travel between and interfere with. Crucial points in time and space too.

So, of all TL’s scars/ tombs, his is one that really must be hidden.

Now, that doesn’t mean that he isn’t also blocking off knowledge of Clara (who he is clearly fixating on in NiS) from the Controller, simply to keep her safe (which to be honest is all I thought at the time – my bonkers stuff is purely outside of actually watching where I’m along for the ride!)

ah but @scaryb – Smith is now in his scar, so can visit 10 and Rose (in a sort of scar-as-convoluted-tube-network of places he’s visited).
Smith can get off at any time (just as Clara can/ did) – he hasn’t met 10 until he goes into the scar and travels along it to visit 10.

he he – thanks @htpbdet! (I’m not really afraid, it was more friendly tongue-in-cheek, as you are a rather good writer and memory of the show!)

The reason I wanted to differentiate between memories and ‘physical’ tunnels and physical echoes, is that its easy to conflate the block the Cybercontroller found in Smith’s memories (Smith knows of HurtDoc but blocks off that memory through disgust/disappointment), with the ‘physicality’ of HurtDoc simply being in the “scar” (for whatever reason).
If he was hidden in the scar, it was more like he was hidden in a maze, rather than blocked off in a mind.

Just loved this story!

Lets just say I have a Chewbacca guarding my Tufte and design books.
Though I had Chewbacca as well as Hammerhead (and another I can’t remember), it was the Chewie I loved. Weirdly, my mum also took a shine to it, and would fiddle with it on long journeys up to Yorkshire, twirling its arm round and round and round and round…..

She brought it into hospital one time she was in, and it disappeared. No idea what happened to it.
I knew she was a bit upset about losing it and for fun, I went searching for one to replace it. This was maybe 15 years ago, and little did I know that they’d changed the design of the figures, and Chewie now looked like some shite He-Man with fur.
Had to search and search for months (years??) for an old one that wasn’t cripplingly expensive in a still-in-its-box collector’s way.

Finally found one, and mum chuckled. Now it resides on my shelf along with other more random additions (a ghost?! a tin robot, a tin East German flying-spinner thing).

My goodness – I think I disagree/ have a different interpretation to @htpbdet.

erm (breathes in) I think that the “track of tears”, the “scar”, is is not memories at all. It is a ‘physical’ tear in space and time (like a mass of wormholes). Anything seen or heard in those ‘tunnels’ are an echo of real events (rather than a memory which is a subjective interpretation of events).

Now, how did the HurtDoc get there? He appears to have entered it like Smith and Clara have.

Could another regeneration of the Doctor have condemned him to the scar to live forever – regretting his actions as he looks across the desolation?
They could do this by travelling in the Tardis to the scar and making him walk in, then sealing the scar using the Doctors birthname.

Btw – I think the reason that The Doctor was not meant to get to Trenzalore was to not allow anyone access to this incredible phenomenon (the scar) – something that could give someone (like the GI) access to some of the most crucial moments in Time and Space, to work their nefarious deeds (eg defeating the Doctor and turning out the lights/stars so that ‘silence will fall’).

I had a bonkers theory ages ago which had the Silence as guarding something valuable/destructive for the Doctor ie he actually asked them to guard it. This is still possible (though now completely irrelevant!).

As too many people would have noticed a missing Doctor, the Zygons took the form we know as Ecclestone, and pretended to be the Doctor.

HurtDoctor is the Doctor grown old in a cell, who did something despicable to save his own sanity.

I can’t remember watching this one at the time (though I may have).
Nothing much to add (everyone’s nailed everything I can think of) except that I didn’t feel anything racist about the show and don’t even feel the need to believe in any “they did that in the Victorian era” to self-justify it (even though they did ‘yellow up’ as pointed out.
I grew up in the 70’s and the sit”com” “Mind your Language” and The Comedians, helps put things in perspective (they do contain racism).
And I cannot remember any characters back then chiding others for their racism (“we must all look alike to you”) so, as slight as this line may seem, this was dynamite to me (re)watching just now.

to be honest – I don’t even mind the rat (in that I could easily find it scary!)

In all honesty, I think he was always brilliant as the man-a-bit-out-of-his-depth (in pretty much everything he did). Equally scheming and small minded, but with massive amounts of sympathy. And I’d loved to have seen him bounce off Cribbens if he had had a role (and not sadly passed away obviously).

Also agree, Hurt could read the phonebook and make me cry.
I did have a moment of “Winston Smith” when he uttered the lines, but I will forgive anything.

Hi @misspawsintime – definitely there’s been plenty of speculating on JLC as next Doctor.
I’ll admit that I said I think that the actress is more than capable, but that I thought that having her first as a companion and then ‘promoting’ to Doctor would be unfair, and hamper her.

Now… not so sure. But I do think I’d rather they were brave and simply cast, rather than sneak in, as I just think it undermines the confidence in the actress and show.

Presuming JLC is not the next Doctor, I’m curious to see who they do cast as he/she will have to be a very strong actor. From what she’s done so far, JLC has played the role as a much smarter and stronger companion than many previous ones (eg Rose, Martha, Donna to an extent and even pre-gap). She’s not a screamer (thank god) nor a “But I don’t understaaaaannnnnnd…”.

The dynamic of two women in the Tardis with ol’ Sexy would also be interesting… (before the obligatory pretty boy in a short skirt joins them, “for the dads”)
