From the Radio Times, so technically ‘news’ but I’m putting it here to avoid offending the shoal (and various birds).
Doctor Who: The Name of the Doctor Prequel Announced
The Radio Times have announced that a prequel to the Doctor Who Series 7 finale, The Name of the Doctor, will be released next week.
The prequel, titled He Said, She Said will be set in a dusty old museum, and will see the Doctor and Clara reflecting directly to camera how little they truly know about each other (the finale promises to reveal the ‘secrets’ of both the Doctor and Clara).
The prequel will be three minutes long and will be released online at 7.45pm on Saturday 11th May, straight after the broadcast of Nightmare in Silver. It will also be able to view on the red button in the UK between 7.40pm and midnight BST, and during the evening until the episode’s broadcast the following Saturday.
The Name of the Doctor will be broadcast on Saturday 18th May.

@htpbdet – However, if the GI is involved, and that entity is familiar with upload / download….. it leaves plenty of room for River to be brought back from the Library in order to properly die. Whew. Hopefully that is sufficient space to prevent anyone peeping, who doesn’t want to peep. The DW mag seems to have some juicy spoiler gossip about the finale. eep!

They additionally confirm that someone does die, and that there is more snogging and we definitely learn Clara’s true identity. Things that make you go, Hmmm.

I also have a vague memory of Matt, in an interview, referring to the dalek-like circlets in an ambiguous way, perhaps even alluding to weapons.

@scaryb – true, true! In the spirit of Bonkers, and otherwise completely Insane, Theories – what if the Doctor was playing with genetics; doctoring the way Time Lords travel. What if he produced a Time Person (?), not born to him biologically, rather a specimen he concocted, that “regenerated” as the same person across Time and Space. What if, when the dark powers were rising in Gallifrey, and worried that his creation would be used for nefarious purpose, he fled! Taking with him his precious ‘granddaughter.’
It potentially falls apart after that, but the idea of it fits the Doctor’s character: a tinkerer who is enamored of the “new shiny”, and the potential of science and the universe.

@bluesqueakpip – Agreed. Hence the line in RoA about running and running, when you hold something precious. OH!! Maybe he initially ran because Susan was a very special Time Lady. Perhaps, she was so unique (can she fracture herself through time and space?) that the darker forces rising to power in Gallifrey would have used her. Ok, I admit…my imagination is running away with me. I don’t know enough about Classic Who, and the interactions occurring between the Doctor, the Time Lords, and Susan while she was still with the Doctor.

30 April 2013 at 15:22 #7274@timeloop – that is a question I don’t have an answer for. Hopefully one of the Drs. of Who in our midst will explain this. It has been a puzzle to me. Just what is or was the timelock, and what are its implications, as regards travel back to Gallifrey?
My understanding was it captured all of Gallifrey’s history, from beginning to end, and locked it in a ‘moment’ of time – no getting in, no getting out.
30 April 2013 at 14:57 #7271@htpbdet – I often wonder whether River could have gone to Gallifrey pre- Time War. It is certainly something I can see her doing–traveling back to the Doctor’s beginning. But would that have been possible? The timey-wimey bit with the timelock, and when she’s born, have made it seem impossible.

That could mean he just realises that (“how do I look” “amazing” “I’d better be”). I have never watched old episodes is that possible?
Hi @timeloop – Are you saying that River had a child with the Doctor before we even meet him–when he still lived on Gallifrey?

What if they *are* the same person, and that person (said loosely) is a baddie? What if the Doctor, in his rush to keep his secrets, silenced Clara before she could say, “and I saw the person who gave me your number.”

Could his name have come about because of the children? Doctors deliver babies. Well, not always, there are midwives. But “who” he is, and why, is an important element woven into this tale. I certainly think children are involved. You have highlighted numerous instances where children, or the lack thereof, are significant story points. Add Clara’s connection with children, and there seems to be a solid clue.

Who up there ^^ mentioned the TARDIS becoming militarised, or ready for battle? Ages ago…before the Christmas special?…I watched an interview with Smith where he indicated just this – I think. My memory tells me he hinted at weapons. And we all know…if we can remember something….
@janetteb – “The Dr compares her skin to parchment. is she in fact a literary construct? Something created by the pen of River Song…” OH!!!!!! But that is juicy!! It also fits with all the overt mention of narrative and story. The episodes have all either had a distinctive “fictional” feel to them, or there are outright mentions of storytelling, e.g. Clara’s comment about “Good guys” not having zombies.

@htpbdet – I really enjoyed your storytelling, and that narrative really could work. The interview where Matt and Jenna drop little hints came up on my newsfeed a few moments ago. I am struck by something they say:
Matt: “It focuses on a pivotal moment in the Doctor’s life and the life of his companion. It’s a complete game changer and it all starts now.”
Jenna: “There are little bits and pieces, which Steven [Moffat] planted a couple of years ago. It’s … a crucial moment in the Doctor’s life that you get to explore,”
The tone of that feels very much like a story about “why” he is called ‘the Doctor’, as opposed to any other moniker he could have come up with. I’m struggling to remember any hints in previous episodes. The Master has a conversation with him about this very topic, but I can’t recall what is said.

(sorry, I had to!!) I’ve thrown my support behind the Clara / TARDIS concept, as well – for good or for ill. There are so many possibilities–sometimes I think the writers are skipping about dropping them like posies– that at the end of the day, you just have to go with a theory and hope for the best. Not long till we find out, anyway! 🙂

They were holding hands in the corridor earlier, after her hand had already shown signs of the message. This part…I don’t understand. Unless she was ‘sending’ him the message – remember his, “Clara, speak to me.” at the beginning?

@Shazzbot – me, neither! But do we trust her? Is she really a trick? One whacky idea I had – which I quickly dismissed because of my newly declared Clara/TARDIS support– was, what if Clara was about to say, “So that’s who …created them!” (see @htpbdet ‘s Dalek theory on the Spoilers page) What if Clara is a detective or something, traveling the universe to destroy the Daleks? Yea…. it hasn’t got much going for it, as whacky theories go. Besides, I am enjoying the thought of a human/TARDIS hybrid.

I suspect this hybridisation or mirroring is connected to the exploding TARDIS, which @haveyoufedthefish has wonderfully tied with several loose ends. Remember what Sexy said in TDW, regarding what they would need to fly the pieced together TARDIS? She kissed her finger, drew some of her own…sexy energy…and touched the machine – which made it fly. Sexy said the Doctor had all he needed – her. Imagine a Time Lord – human – TARDIS hybrid child, or race?

In the ‘heart of the TARDIS’, as they walk through the exploding engine, Clara puts her hand in the Doctors’ and what does he say when he realises the message? “fragile human skin, like parchment”
28 April 2013 at 13:03 #7035OH!! He is under the TARDIS when it’s hauled into the salvage bay because in one of the re-does the Doctor had to get onto the ship in order to grab the remote for the first time. My gosh….they have been in the time loop as long as River was, haven’t they??
…is this the first instance of the Doctor cursing? lol. I believe he said that as fast as my Grandpa use to.
28 April 2013 at 11:01 #7020@haveyoufedthefish – that is a Brilliant theory!! It does, indeed, neatly tie together so many threads- and in near perfect timey-wimey fashion! Is there a historical precedent in the show for a person being split through space and time? This may have been discussed previously, but now that the exploding TARDIS can been explained, I am infinitely curious whether anything like this is mentioned in Classic Who? The explosion and time rift also explains the various persona of the Doctor flitting in and out.
28 April 2013 at 09:33 #7007@juniperfish – I’m re-watching and am struck by the Doctor’s revelation under the Eye of Harmony that he brought Clara with him on the TARDIS to keep her safe, so she wouldn’t die again. He is still very much acting on his feeling of beng responsible–for her death, for other’s deaths, and for their protection. And the moment, outside the engine room, when Clara almost falls off the cliff, they hug. The Doctor lets go and genuinely hugs her. Inside the engine room, when he says the TARDIS has, “always been there for me, but now when it’s my turn, I don’t know what to do,” Clara walks right up, matter-of-factly, and holds his hand. (did anyone else watching on HD notice how much Clara’s dress looks like a red version of the Matrix –from the Matrix film?)
He needs to find “the music” – that’s the ‘moment’ where all the memories are leaking out

I wonder… She said the Doctor was like a guy who needed his Mother’s approval, and it is clearly Clara that the ‘Mother’ needs to approve of.

I know many here get a sibling vibe from these two, but I get newly “married” couple, who feel at ease with one another and don’t bicker (like the “old” married couple of River and the Doctor). However, I am happy to be proven wrong on that note, as long as they stay friends and travel together. I so enjoy watching them, and want to see them have many adventures together!

Hmm, so the meta-crisis Doctor and Rose were “supposed” to get their own TARDIS. Wow. How would that have worked out? 10.5 was human. How long would it have taken the TARDIS to ‘grow’?
