@dentarthurdent The 12th Doctor can be a crusty old guy now and then and I love him for it. So sarcastic and he is bitey like the cold but it is all on the outside. Inside he is soft and squishy. I think he has great lines in every episode but the “carer ” remark is one of my favourites.

And another enjoyable review @dentarthurdent. Good observation regarding Capaldi’s lines and the way he delivers them. just reading those quotes makes me want to re watch the episode and that is why I find even the “dud” episodes enjoyable. (with the single exception of Kill the Moon whose premise is too absurd)
The story suggests a but of…[Read more]

@dentarthurdent the same here they had me sitting out in a big chair the afternoon the day after my op despite still having 2 chest drains. They had me walking the next morning and going to the toilet and back by the end of the day and I was actually discharged home to finish my recovery on day 5 postoperative similar you. I had been told I was…[Read more]

@dentarthurdent I forgot to say that I totally agree about nasty two stroke engines and leaf blowers. They are loud and stinky and bad for the environment and loud. For goodness sake pick up a rake. Wood chippers make a sound that crawls up my spine and burrows into my brain.
take care

@dentarthurdent and @janetteb Tree lovers assemble! It is sad to see an old friend get cut down even if it is for a good reason and unfortunately we are not done yet. We have a big maple tree and a black locus that the electric company have marked for removal but they will do it at no cost so that’s one good thing. Both trees are lovely and…[Read more]

@dentarthurdent. The War Doctor is a classic example of writers responding to the failure of their plans. Good writers do something remarkable when they find a spanner in their grand design. What would have been if C.E. had agreed to return for the anniversary special would no doubt have been good but it is hard to imagine anything better than the…[Read more]

@dentarthurdent I love this episode and I watch it again and again. I love to look at the stuff in the Tower to find it all which I probably haven’t yet. River’s shoes are the best.
The dialogue between the 3 Doctors is sharp and witty and the discussion over the Tardis interior is a joy for Whovians. “You’ve redecorated, I don’t like it” “Oh…[Read more]

@dentarthurdent Thank you for the response. I agree it can be very difficult to get any interest in used items even from charity shops especially in the UK as I know very well as this is the 2nd time in 2 years that I’ve had to clear a relatives’ home. I’m inspired by your achievements to give it a go even if I only get £1 + postage 😉 because…[Read more]

@dentarthurdent I agree that this episode stands up well on re-watching. It has a lot of qualities, such as the characters, the children and Porridge/Emperor. Angie is acting just as a kid would in the circumstances and I like the setting. I also like the sense of world building in this story. We mostly only see Cybermen and Daleks in relation to…[Read more]

@dentarthurdent This episode is one of the scariest and I never watch it in the dark. On the other hand it is so nice to be able to see more of the TARDIS! Wouldn’t it be great to get a tour?
I have read Sherlock Holmes stories since I was a kid and I have watched so many different movies and TV shows with many great performances of Sherlock…[Read more]

@auntie8nay6. Welcome. I am not on very often, but I read all the posts.
Unlike @dentarthurdent, I saw the very first episode of Doctor Who. Unfortunately it went to air the same day that JFK was assassinated, however they showed it again on the Saturday and I watched that too! 🙂 Love at first sight.
I liked all the Doctors except for the last…[Read more]

@dentarthurdent It is a fun episode with some good moments. I liked the reveal that the younger brother was not an android but human and I have always enjoyed those rare episodes that show us a little of what lies behind the console room. They certainly do it much better than old Who did with the very obvious warehouse or factory interior. We…[Read more]

Dental and eye exams are not covered by the provincial health care system in Nova Scotia. (Canada’s system is funded federally, but administered by the provinces. So each province has a different health care system.) Fortunately we have private insurance through my husband’s employer, and it covers dental work and much of what is not covered by…[Read more]

@dentarthurdent Hope the kidney stones are dealt with soon. Dr Who also works as a good painkiller one i Have used many a time.
The S/o did see a dentist who quoted $5,000 for root canal and crown. He opted to suffer it out and hopefully see a more affordable dentist in Vietnam next year. Might end up costing as much but that includes a holiday.…[Read more]

I think that the undercutting of the message in Local Hero, is part of the message. At least to me.
I think there were no larger messages in Doctor 13 than other historical series. There were fascinating moral quandaries in The War Games, from memory.
The very first serial examining the Thals, & the subsequent anti-war &…[Read more]

I think Local Hero is a gem, isn’t it? Definitely, as you say, a fresh faced Peter Capaldi adding to the film’s quirkiness & as for “hero,” I think one could debate for hours as to his/their identity, when, yes, Janette, it’s the town, even Happer & Mac, who’s faced with the contrasting, hectic lifestyle of his own city…[Read more]

@blenkinsopthebrave @nerys @thane16 @dentarthurdent and @janetteb Thank you all for your kind words. @dentarthurdent Local Hero has become one of my favourite films over the years after the re watch discussed above. Peter Capaldi is so young and fresh faced it it. One thing I noted is that he runs like a penguin. He is clearly not athletic, young or old. In other regards however he has changed completely, from that fresh faced boy who did not…[Read more]
