@faegrl – Interesting, I do often view them as seperate myself. But separate incarnations of the same character… hmmm, hard to explain. But yes indeed, he is a complex character! My favourites are First and Seventh… and also the Second and Fourth. Wait, I like the Sixth as well… okay I like all the Doctors!

Annnnnd that gif is from ‘The Five Doctors’, which really should be called ‘The Four Doctors’ as the Fourth is not in it properly unfortunately. Its a great episode, I highly recommend it. Other multiple Doctor stories are ‘The Three Doctors’ and ‘The Two Doctors’.

@faegrl – Indeed, it just seems that the Seventh Doctor seemed to have the manipulative trait more than any other Doctor… similar to what @bluesqueakpip mentioned about the Tenth and arrogance. I find the Seventh Doctor a fascinating character, not only does his personality change over time… but he ends up considering most of what he’s dealing with as a game. Don’t know the exact quote, but in ‘Ghost Light’ he complained; “Even I can’t play this many games at once!” or something along those lines. Apparently his audio and book stories explore this trait even more… he really becomes the darkest of all the Doctors; but he’s still the Doctor, enough to be called the Doctor… unlike the War Doctor. How many times can I say Doctor in a sentence!? lol Apparently a number of his other incarnations aren’t fond of the Seventh though, probably because of his manipulative methods.

And yes Time Lord’s are arrogant, even the first time they appeared in the series in ‘The War Games’.

But today ‘Web of Fear’ arrived… YES I HAVE ‘WEB OF FEAR’ ON DVD! ‘Web of Fear’ is here!  Who would of thought it!? Found, its found! Except episode 3. So I will be joining the Second Doctor today, facing the Great Intelligence and the Yeti in the London Underground! Exciting! ‘WEB OF FEAR’!

@mattwholigan – Pretty random… but then you can find some crazy stuff on eBay. I bought my sister a life-size cardboard cutout of the Tenth Doctor for Christmas… and the dog started barking at him. It was rather amusing.

@devilishrobby – The method the Seventh Doctor used to make Ace lose her faith in him in ‘Curse of Fenric’, is much more brutal than the Eleventh Doctor… but yes there is a similarity there in other Doctors, that some of them will be manipulative. Even the Second Doctor to an extent and he I always considered one of the nicest Doctors. But really no other Doctor manipulates his enemies and companions like the Seventh does… he’s also quite a brooding type. I’m guessing @faegrl will find out what we mean by this once she watches more of his serials, as in his first season he’s more clownish and silly.

And yes there’s a lot of hinting that he is something more, the line that was cut from the transmitted version of ‘Remembrance’ when he’s talking to Davros for example; “I am far more than just another Time Lord”. And also in ‘Remembrance’ where he says “we… I mean they…” when talking about the Hand of Omega. Annnnnnnd you get all the “Who are you?” “Doctor… who?” in ‘Silver Nemesis’ as well. I think if the series had been allowed to continue, they would of worked more on these aspects of the Doctor… but no, they cancelled it instead.

@faegrl – Ah well, the Seventh Doctor becomes very manipulative… to the point he’s setting up and playing ‘chess’ with his enemies and companions. There’s a few scenes where Ace (you’ll meet her later) actually gets very angry with the Doctor about it. He’s a very interesting and unusual Doctor, who sometimes even seems quite cold… he is always trying to help, but his methods are often manipulative. He’s been called the ‘dark chessmaster’ quite a few times by fans etc. Honestly he’s a absolutely brilliant Doctor though.

And if you skip to ‘Ghost Light’ you’ll miss quite a bit, not to mention its part of the Ace backstory arc… which really needs to be watched in a linear fashion as it all connects. Ace is the first companion to have a proper ongoing story and backstory. That and you’ll instantly notice how much the Doctor has changed going from ‘Paradise Towers’ to it. The Doctor is very intense in ‘Ghost Light’. Also… its in his last season so you’ll be skipping a lot… oh and random information time! ‘Ghost Light’ was the last classic serial to be filmed, even though ‘Survival’ was the last to be shown, and is the season finale.

@whisht – It is a rather confusing serial! I think I understand it now though. lol! I rewatched it recently, its a very good serial… but the moment you think you understand what’s going on… suddenly something completely “what the heck…?” happens. Sorry, only way to describe it!

@faegrl – Yep, the Seventh Doctor is so cute in ‘Time and the Rani’!. With all the dundrearyisms. He’s brilliant in ‘Paradise Towers’ as well… of course only when you get to his second season will his manipulative nature become more apparent. Glad you’re enjoying his serials though. Oh and just a warning, when you get to ‘Ghost Light’, its probably the most confusing episode of Doctor Who… so I don’t mind explaining what’s actually going on if you don’t get it. Trust me… I didn’t know half of what was going on at first either. lol

Still got quite a while till series 8… so lots of time to watch the old series! Yay!

@faegrl – Yay for ‘Time and the Rani’! Its a serial that gets a lot of bad reviews from folks, but I think its great! Hah! And no Mel isn’t a Time Lord, but the Rani is. I’m guessing you got a bit confused at the part where he thinks she’s the Rani? The reason he knew she was Mel is because she only had one pulse, therefore not a Time Lord. And ahaha… Mel does scream quite a bit.

And yay again! The Seventh Doctor is awesome, glad you agree!

Actually the second serial is ‘Paradise Towers’…. at least I think that’s the order… hmmm. For the record… I really like ‘Paradise Towers’; probably my favourite from his first season.

@faegrl – Oh yep, I know which serial you mean. And its actually a good idea to watch them in a linear fashion, as then you experience his manipulative side emerging… personally I think it is there in his first season, just not as much… and hardly at all in his first serial… but that is post-regeneration. Anyhow, interested to know what your opinions are!

Oh and @scaryb I forgot to mention your mentioning (ahhhhhhhh! grammar!!!!) of the Eleventh Doctor and Carmen, he can obviously play the Triangle! Thanks for reminding me… unless, he was actually in another incarnation on that recording… who knows.

@scaryb – I’d probably want to watch all his serials before writing up a defense for the Sixth Doctor, I’m getting there though! And yes I agree we need a Sixth Doctor revisit, ‘Varos’ would be perfect for the reasons I mentioned before. That and yes… it has Sil, of whom I know from ‘Mindwarp’; and he’s rather amusing. @faegrl – I wouldn’t worry, Daleks don’t seem to exterminate people anymore… I mean, when was the last time somebody actually got exterminated on screen in New Who? Quite a while ago! Then again… if I were a Dalek, I’d be a old Dalek… with the ability to make the screen go negative!

Oh yaaaaay! I hope you like the Seventh’s serials, I could go on and on about him but I’ll try not to! lol

Annnnnnd about conventions; there’s one up north next month that McCoy will be at, but it would take me ages to get up there. I hope he’ll be at a convention closer by at some point… but then again I would really like my Seventh Doctor cosplay to be completed when I meet him.

Okay wait… wait… thinking of a subject… what serials/episodes/seasons/Doctors are you folks currently watching/going to watch/doing marathons of/etc. at the moment? Or is it just me and Fae right now who are trying to watch lots of Doctor Who?

I’m happy as long as we still get more old series serials for rewatches; I’m fine with New Who… but I do prefer the classic serials.

‘Trial’ is a season long, even though it has different serials… it all connects. If we were to watch one of them… we’d probably have to watch the entire season.

About about New Who rewatches; I wouldn’t mind it actually… I’ve been meaning to rewatch some Ninth and Tenth Doctor episodes.

Been watching some Doctor Who, old series of course. Though not monochromatic today, no these episodes were technicolour. My quest continues to watch all Doctor Who serials… even if they’re not in order a lot of the time.

@faegrl – Oh if you are going to watch the Seventh Doctor’s serials, do tell me what you think of them! Just be warned; some folks are not keen on his first season at all, because it is rather silly most of the time; even if you find them odd, keep going, because his second and third seasons really get into the swing of things… some brilliant stories.

@faegrl – Well the First and Seventh are my favourite Doctors! The First has a lot of serials, the Seventh has only twelve serials… because they cancelled the show. There was even plans for season 27… but noooo, they had to cancel it didn’t they!? Could of had more serials with the Seventh… and his hat. Okay I’ll stop ranting now. But his seasons do have some brilliant episodes! And once you get to watching them, you’ll notice the drastic change in personality between his first and second season.

I guess its a bonus of my random viewing method… I can switch between Doctors.

@faegrl – I’m sure you’ll like the Sixth Doctor… personally I like all the Doctors in general… just have my favourites of course. I find it interesting to know what Doctors think of other Doctors. Some Doctors actually dislike other incarnations; for example… the Second and Third always seem to argue. And the Fifth and Seventh apparently do not get along (the actors do though!), as the Fifth is not a fan of the Seventh’s manipulative way of dealing with situations.

Ah so spoilers aren’t a problem then? I myself am not bothered by spoilers either. But as that is a spoiler for the entire season… its probably not best to say it. lol

Okay I’m up to speed with everyone else now. That ending sequence was amazing, especially for its time. Very atmospheric filming, and also paired with the radiophonics makes it all very creepy. Many theories being flung about at the moment as to what is actually going on, and quite a few disagreements too. I wonder what Quatermass will think of the strange goings on in those last few minutes of the episode?

I’ll wait to watch the next part until its posted here, at least I’ve finally watched the four already posted.

Anyhow… this is getting creepy, and possibly alien? But its very interesting that the strange happenings in that area have been going on for years. That ending scene of this episode was freaky… they do look more like aliens to me though.

So there’s a five million year old sci-fi-looking container very close to a supposedly haunted house, and both seem to be connected… all very confusing, isn’t it? Very interesting episode; the scene with Quatermass exploring the house was creepy, and it seems he is still interested in the stories about that place.

I’m not able to figure out what scenes are filmed live and which are pre-recorded either.

Okay, I’ve finally started watching this. Yes I’m far behind everyone else at the moment, oh well. A a few folks were interested in what I thought of the serial because I adore the black and white 60s serials of Doctor Who.

After watching the first episode, I have to say I’m finding this very well done; I’ve watched a movie version of ‘Quatermass’ before so sort of know the story (though I did miss the beginning I think of that version). Of course in serial form they can add a lot more. Wondering why nobody else thought it was weird that the bones were found above the supposed unexploded bomb… surely that’s an indicator that its also been there for a long time? Oh well, gotta have the main character the smartest I guess! lol Anyhow, I’ll post in the other threads once I watch more episodes. As I kind of know the storyline anyhow, I’ll try not to mention any spoilers (though, I guess a number of things could be different in this version).

@faegrl – Yes some Doctors tend to have a egotistical streak; Sixth and Tenth definitely. The Seventh Doctor can just be a bit smug sometimes, he’s more subtle about it. Though… he does say when he’s made a mistake; one of my favourite cliffhangers (which most people would probably consider a silly cliff-hanger) is when there’s a Dalek shuttle landing outside and everyone is hiding from the commotion its making. The Seventh Doctor just looks up and says “I think I may have miscalculated” and then the outro plays.

But the Sixth Doctor’s personality is similar to his coat; dramatic and brash… and yet he’s a pretty awesome Doctor in my opinion. Him and Peri tend to argue a lot, so I’m not sure if he has the best Doctor/Companion relationship about, but by his reactions to what’s going on in his final season (no spoilers) he obviously cares about her. Despite his attitude sometimes, I think he’s actually a pretty caring Doctor. (Don’t go by what happens after his regeneration! Yikes… scary scene.)

@faegrl – Re: Spoon Playing – I know, and McCoy is so good at it! I do wonder how some Doctors seem to have musical talents when others don’t… in his first serial, it just seems the Seventh now can play the spoons when none of his previous incarnations could. Also, the Second Doctor played a recorder… none of the others do. Oh and the Fifth Doctor played a harp in ‘The Five Doctors’… okay, anybody else remember episodes where the Doctor played an instrument? Yes, spoons are an instrument!

You can either watch a recon or skip to the serial after that… which is Keys of Marinus… which I haven’t watched yet actually! Random episode viewing method and all.

@faegrl – Yes the umbrella is very important… almost as important as the hat! ….almost! I think I’m obsessed with Panama Hats… thanks to the Seventh Doctor. And now I also want to learn how to play the spoons because of him too!
