@oswald – Welcome to the forums… and to the Whoniverse!
Okay so guess what folks? A bunch of those DVDs I ordered came today, and I only managed to spill cola on them… NOT THE DISKS! No just the covers. They were about to fall so I instantly reacted to grab the DVDs and I forgot I was holding cola… yeah. Not too much damage but a couple of the cover inserts managed to get cola on them. I stood guarding the inserts for a bit, while they dried…
How was your day everyone?
Oh but I did watch The Five Doctors today! Love the interactions between the Second and Third. I do tend to find it odd watching the Second Doctor in colour though… just used to… monochrome of course.
10 January 2014 at 16:33 #24172@phaseshift – Ah, okay, cool. Here’s some other suggestions for the Doctors;
First – The Daleks
Second – The Mind Robber
Third – I like the idea of Day of the Daleks
Fourth – Pyramids of Mars
Fifth – The Five Doctors! 😀
Sixth – Trial of a Time Lord
Seventh – The Greatest Show in the Galaxy9 January 2014 at 14:20 #24117@thekrynoidman – ‘The Dalek Invasion of Earth’ makes me cry at the end… its done really well that scene…
I love both the Third and Fourth Doctors too, but as I have stated before I like all the Doctors. Capaldi is going to be a great Doctor, I just know it. I doubt my favourite being the First will change any time soon though.
9 January 2014 at 14:15 #24116@fiveroundsrapid – Yes, I do hope the rumor about a special episode with the Eighth Doctor is true. Also… I hope that the first story of  season 8 does involve the Daleks AND ties in with the finding Gallifrey story arc.
8 January 2014 at 22:07 #24091@theprettyreckless – Welcome to the forum!
@confusedpolarity – Also… welcome! I too love the Second Doctor, he’s probably my second favourite… while the First Doctor is… my first favourite? Okay. Yes. I think that made sense.
@phaseshift – Ah ‘The Daleks’, great serial! And ‘The Time Meddler’ is also a awesome story; glad to hear its going to be the subject of a blog soon. I just finished watching ‘The Sensorites’ for the first time; as others have said it is rather slow moving but I enjoyed it, had some great moments from the Doctor. I like the scene where he took control of the situation and piloted the spaceship.
8 January 2014 at 21:58 #24090Capaldi has been a fan of Doctor Who for a long time, I’m hoping there will be even more references and ideas from the Classic Series in his seasons. Also yes, again, want to know what his outfit will be!
8 January 2014 at 17:37 #24071Its William Hartnell’s birthday today; who played the First Doctor (my favourite). Therefore I have a question for… anyone really, what’s your favourite story from the First Doctor? Or, if you haven’t got to watching any yet, which serial would you like to watch? (That can also go for missing episodes.)
I can’t pick my favourite, I’ve liked all the serials I’ve watched; but I really hope Daleks Master Plan gets found one day.
7 January 2014 at 20:18 #24048Just went on a Doctor Who DVD shopping spree, I bought;
Dalek War Boxset (Frontier in Space/Planet of the Daleks)
Death to the Daleks
Earthshock
The Five Doctors
Trial of a Time Lord Boxset (Mysterious Planet/Mind Warp/Terror of the Vervoids/The Ultimate Foe)
The Greatest Show in the Galaxy
Doctor Who: The MovieAnd I still have The Sensorites to watch which I got for Christmas. Not to mention I want to buy The Moonbase soon. Well this is going to help with my DVD collection, eh? Yep!
7 January 2014 at 18:26 #24045@fiveroundsrapid – Yes I had heard something about the animation being halted, perhaps they have found the other episodes? But we know it will be released on DVD now… so either its going to be a long while before its actually released… or they truly have found the episodes. But there have been so many missing episode rumors about lately…
And about your blog post; I’m also very excited about the next season… mainly because of Capaldi (yay for an older Doctor again!). I really hope we find out what his outfit will be soon…
7 January 2014 at 17:27 #24040@ellixin – I think that’s how it is for most folks, you can’t really hear your own accent… though for some reason I can hear mine. I love imitating the Second Doctor’s voice actually, sometimes I just do it randomly in conversation.
And now everyone, some information; on another Doctor Who forum, somebody who recieved a review copy of ‘The Moonbase’ DVD has said that the ‘Coming Soon’ Trailer is ‘The Underwater Menace‘… which has been the subject of debate recently as to if it actually was going to be released. It will be the last Classic Doctor Who DVD to be released (release date still unknown, but it will be after Web of Fear) until any more lost episodes are found. Also I’m guessing it will have animated episodes just like ‘The Moonbase’… unless they’re not telling us they’ve found the missing eps, eh?
7 January 2014 at 17:18 #24038@wolfweed – Ah yes I noticed that too… just a coincidence I’m sure. Hahaha… hah… maybe. I think it also says ‘fireworks’ but I doubt that’s a plot point.
7 January 2014 at 16:33 #24036@ellixin – My accent is ridiculously British… but then I am British. Though it even surprises me how I sound when I hear it played back. Hahaha. Though actually I can do quite a good impression of the Second Doctor (even though I’m female)… well I think its a good impression of him anyhow.
7 January 2014 at 16:28 #24035@wolfweed – That quote he used… First Doctor… is that just a coincidence or is that a hint!? I’d love for his outfit to be like the First Doctor’s; obviously not exactly the same but something similar!
7 January 2014 at 16:26 #24034@wolfweed – I wonder if that Circus poster has anything to do with the story? Also I bet they’re only  filming the first episode… first so the outfit isn’t revealed just yet! Okay maybe not… but I am still hoping his outfit will be good… the wait continues.
7 January 2014 at 05:26 #24018@gallifreyangirl – Welcome to the forum!
7 January 2014 at 01:57 #24015@scaryb – In use Yeti!? Oh my giddy aunt!
And you’re probably right, I doubt they’d make it just some other Time Lord who took on the name (of) Rassilon. But I do hope they’ll explain it at some point.
7 January 2014 at 01:10 #24010@scaryb – Is that a disused Yeti…?
I love the Sixth Doctor, I especially love his COAT! Now I wait for the ‘you’re crazy!’ comments.
Now, about Rassilon… the fact that it hasn’t been explained why that dude was called Rassilon is actually bothering me now. I want to know if he was actually Rassilon, and if so why had he returned?
6 January 2014 at 16:18 #24003@wolfweed – Oh good, then hopefully we will find out what the Twelfth’s outfit will be… that’s the main issue right now for season 8… for me anyhow. Once I know, then I want to know what Classic Series elements will be returning… if any…
6 January 2014 at 16:02 #24002@thekrynoidman – That bothers me too, its fine if they have tried to watch it and just can’t get into it (and hopefully acknowledge its canon) but if they just ignore the Classic Series… yes that is rather annoying! Â But I don’t want to start ranting right now…
@ellixin – Welcome! I’m sure any references you make here will be understood, hah.
6 January 2014 at 15:54 #24001I haven’t posted here yet… hmmm! My favourite companions are Ian and Jamie.
@serahni – Welcome to the forums!
6 January 2014 at 02:43 #23981@meadowrose – I can understand why you’d want to watch them in order, it is far more organized than my method. Anyhow, I wish you luck on your quest for episodes; I’m going to be buying some more Third, Fifth, Sixth and Seventh Doctor DVDs soon hopefully…that and The Moonbase (Second) which is released this month. I’m trying to wait for the DVD release of Web Of Fear (again, Second) than buying it on iTunes… its not easy, especially since I recently watched Enemy of the World (Second again!) which I enjoyed a lot, even though its not the most Doctor Who-esque of episodes… if that makes any sense.
6 January 2014 at 00:53 #23979@meadowrose – You can easily watch NuWho without watching the Classic Series, however… you won’t get all the references. It is good to watch the classics as then you will know much more about the Whoniverse and the Doctor himself… but you don’t have to watch them in order. I mean you can try, but as a number of 60s Who is missing it isn’t the easiest task… I’m not watching them in order; I’m just collecting stories randomly… that being said though, its probably quite useful to watch them all in order, just not obligatory.
Glad you liked the episodes and the Second Doctor! I adore 60s black and white Who… might be kinda obvious due to my username though. As to where to find them, I buy the DVDs, but that’s because I’m trying to collect all the stories. You can buy a few off iTunes as well… but the selection is a bit limited. Might be a better idea to buy them in order than my method of just picking random episodes actually! I am also planning on getting the audio of the missing episodes so in a way the collection will be complete… kind of.
5 January 2014 at 23:57 #23977@meadowrose – Are you planning on completing your run-through of NuWho first before watching more of the Classic Series? I still need to watch all of the Eleventh’s seasons… and I think there’s still one or two episodes I haven’t watched of the Tenth’s (just specials though… I think). So I’m not completely up to date on the new series either. I usually just waffle on about Classic Who… so don’t mind me. And Tomb of the Cybermen is a brilliant episode in my opinion, you do have to get used to watching Classic Who if its new to you I know. But you got to love the Second Doctor, right? You can’t not love him!
@cedarbranchtardis – Oh I like the Ninth Doctor, wasn’t sure on him at first but he’s actually pretty awesome. Â Hope you both get to know all the Doctors eventually, I think they’re all great.
5 January 2014 at 21:39 #23973@meadowrose – Hi there, don’t worry if you’re new to the series; I’m sure everyone here would be happy to help out with any questions you have.
I myself recall watching Doctor Who when I was younger, but am unsure on which Doctor was my first as well. I’m pretty sure its the Third though, obviously would of been re-runs… but he’s who I would think of if somebody mentioned Doctor Who back then. Of course there’s the possibility it could be the Fourth as I recall K-9… or even the Seventh.
Anyhow, welcome and Happy New Year!
5 January 2014 at 20:57 #23971I was wondering about that too… hopefully it will be explained at some point… maybe when the Doctor finds Gallifrey or… Gallifrey finds the Doctor. Or maybe they’ll just leave it at that and we won’t find out if he was THE Rassilon.
And I’m hoping we get a pic of the 12th Doctor in his outfit soon as they start filming on Monday… rather excited about season 8… got a while yet though.
4 January 2014 at 20:09 #23934@whisht – I try my best. Ahahaha!
@nicelyuseless – No need to apologize, just thought I should mention it.
4 January 2014 at 18:34 #23930Not getting involved in the debate here, but I wanted to mention that this particular thread is actually for Doctor Who random discussions. The political debate would be better in The Rose and Crown thread… I’m guessing.
3 January 2014 at 20:51 #23882@whisht – Daleks. Sheesh, I recently checked on my Daleks again… I was pretty surprised at how many I have (random figures etc.). I was thinking of selling a few but now I want to keep them… just need to find a good place to put them on display.
Doctor Who wise I only collect the DVDs and used to collect random Dalek items, of course I have a few other Doctor Who themed merchandise, but nothing I’d consider a collection.
@wolfweed – Thanks for the links. Gotta say I love that pic of the Second Doctor they used for the cover.
3 January 2014 at 15:18 #23850@wolfweed – Definitely the kilt, that’s a must.
3 January 2014 at 14:18 #23845@fiveroundsrapid: Indeed! Though currently mine are stacked as I am trying to figure out the best place to store them. At least they’re not VHS… that would take up a lot more space… I think I need a TARDIS…
@whisht: BTW I posted in one of the threads… not too sure what to post in the other at the moment.
I was thinking about getting the audio for all the missing Hartnell/Troughton episodes eventually, just so I can say I have all the Classic Who eps in some form or another. Does anybody else do that? Or am I just desperate to be a completist?
3 January 2014 at 14:07 #23844I’m mostly a fan of the Classic Series (though I do like NuWho as well of course), I especially like the black and white serials the most. However I am currently 27, so obviously did not watch them back in the day… now… time to explain how I became a fan…
Well, I always knew about Doctor Who when I was younger, I don’t recall my first Doctor unfortunately… I usually say its the Third because I can remember him the most back then (must of been re-runs or something). If anybody mentioned Doctor Who, I would usually think of him. I’m pretty sure I must of watched some Fourth Doctor episodes as well back then, as I remember K-9. For quite a while I wasn’t a proper fan of the series, I always liked Doctor Who but wasn’t really into it much. Not to mention it had been cancelled for a long time.
Then the reboot happened… I didn’t watch it; I didn’t think it would be any good to be honest. But casually one day I decided to watch a few, they were airing some NuWho eps, particularly there was an episode which involved the Daleks. Now I had always liked the Daleks design, and it sparked off me wanting to watch more… but not just NuWho… oh no, I wanted to get the Classic Series Dalek episodes… so I started buying the DVDs… but gradually it became not just Dalek eps, any episodes… with any Doctor. I became a proper Whovian finally.
I found although I like NuWho, I much prefer Classic Who. I like all the Doctors, at first I thought the Fourth was probably my favourite… but eventually I realized how much I loved the black and white series. My favourite Doctor is the First, he is the Doctor to me; he’s eccentric and stern and brilliant… and very, very mysterious. I also love the Second Doctor; he’s vastly different from the First but he is still amazing. Just love the 60s Doctor Who a lot. But as I said I like all the Doctors anyhow… I am on a ongoing quest to collect the Classic Who DVDs.
Another thing I want to mention however… my dad (who also likes Doctor Who and watched a lot of the 60s eps when they aired) actually met Hartnell back in the 60s and got his autograph, unfortunately he lost the autograph… I would of loved to of owned it, but alas… its missing. Maybe one day I can get an autograph from one of the Doctors… and not misplace it.
3 January 2014 at 13:30 #23842@wolfweed: Monday… Monday you say!? I do hope we find out what his outfit will be soon… I do hope its quirky.
3 January 2014 at 13:23 #23841@fiveroundsrapid – Thanks. I checked out the blog post; its definitely an interesting and less space consuming method of collecting the Classic series. I’ll probably stay with collecting all the DVDs simply because I like the way they look all together though.
@whisht – Oh I was planning on posting something in those threads eventually, I’ll get to it soon.
@tekdrudge – Watching the serials in order would be amazing, but even if one owns all the DVDs, because of the missing episodes its not possible. Unless… you use the audio to count as the missing eps of course. So I doubt many people watch them in order anyhow… dunno if that makes you feel any better about it… hmmm… now I’m just feeling sad myself because of the lost episodes… well that was successful.
I think I’m rambling…
2 January 2014 at 17:22 #23816@craignixon – Yeah there’s at least five of us.
Thanks for the welcome anyhow. 😀
2 January 2014 at 03:37 #23801@drsmith – Actually I have watched that minisode before, I think actually when it aired… though because it was a while ago now I don’t remember too much about it.
The Fifth Doctor is the Doctor I really need to watch more of as I only have two of his episodes, the one you mentioned (his post regeneration story) and Resurrection of the Daleks. I’m planning on buying some Third, Fifth, Sixth and Seventh Doctor serials soon; not to mention I’m trying to get every Dalek story, I only need three more now and they’re all Third Doctor episodes (apart from the missing Dalek serials of course, I’ll be getting the audio instead).
Also excited about The Moonbase being released on DVD soon, along with Web of Fear… I recently watched Enemy of the World, which is a great episode. And I think The Underwater Menace is also being released on DVD isn’t it?
1 January 2014 at 23:43 #23797I recently watched Enemy of the World; brilliant set of episodes… so happy it was found! Haven’t watched Web of Fear yet though, I’m waiting for it to be released on DVD. Troughton is just awesome as both the Doctor (of course) and Salamander, who I found to be a well thought-out and menacing villain. The serial is unusual though, it doesn’t really feel like Doctor Who… but its still very good; not every Doctor Who episode needs aliens or robots after all.
1 January 2014 at 23:04 #23796Thank you for the welcomes. 🙂
@arbutus – Thanks! Quite happy with it myself. Â I haven’t watched much of Matt Smith’s episodes yet, only about half a series and a few specials… hoping to watch a few more soon though. At least I have time to catch up with the series before the next season starts I guess.
1 January 2014 at 16:39 #23773-Introductory post materializes-
Well hello there, I guessed this was the place to post my introduction… so here it is;
I’ve decided to join because recently my Whovian side has returned after lying dormant for a few years, thanks to the 50th Anniversary Episode. I am mostly a fan of the Classic series, but I don’t mind the new series and like a number of the episodes (though I have yet to watch quite a few at the moment so I’m afraid I’m not completely up to date, but I don’t mind spoilers, so go ahead and talk my ear off about the new series however you see fit). My favourite Doctor would be the First, I also adore the Second; in fact the black and white episodes in general are my favourites (hence the username)… but I like all the Doctors anyway… so its all good. When it comes to the new series… well lets just say I have a feeling that Capaldi will be my favourite ‘NuWho’ Doctor once his series begins.
Anyhow, I’m 27 currently, female (mentioning this as folks seem to get it wrong on forums) and I’m from the UK. Currently I am collecting the Classic Series on DVD, not the easiest task when you don’t have much money… and when I say Classic Series… I mean every Doctor. Of course I’m always hoping they’ll find more lost episodes from the First and Second Doctors.
Was this too formal? I can add something crazy to the post to make it seem less formal? Oh and Happy New Year!
