@thane15 I am *so* glad to hear that your mum is doing better — have never forgotten her comment here that she’d be, er, tits up in a matter of months, so the doctors said, yet here she is still! That’s great news.
And in one sense I’m in a similar situation to hers — I’ve bought S10 through iTunes, downloaded it today, and got — only the s…[Read more]

@mersey Your Rembrandt musings are anything but boring, please keep them coming.
@nerys The reviews are always so far off base. It makes you realize how vastly different people are. Seriously, I often find myself wondering if they even watched it they are so far off from my personal feelings on an episode.

This was a wonderful intro to season 10. Adore Bill, but how could a person not adore Bill? She’s original and absolutely endearing. Agree with @jimthefish and @nerys that this has a wonderful introduction to a companion and I enjoy the sense of whimsy, humor and wonder infused back into the show.

@janetteb @thane15 (and Puro) @nerys @cathannabel @missy @ichabod and anyone I may have missed.
Many thanks for all the very lovely comments. I’m sure Nicola would have enjoyed them. You really are a wonderful bunch given this is an internet forum!
I’m sorry if I gave the impression Nicola died recently, she died 14 years ago, but listening to…[Read more]

@alexwho I’d say that at least 90% of DW was written by SM – all the best ones. *grin*
@nerys: An excellent actor for sure.
@thane15; I jolly well hope not! I would watch out of curiosity, because one shouldn’t judge before the event.
However, The Doctor has always been, amongst other things, a Father figure, are we to now expect a Mother figure?

Julius Caesar had himself appointed Dictator for life after decades of social unrest and what amounted to intermittent civil war among those of the ruling class, and he was a self-publicist – as those of my generation who had to read and translate his Gallic Wars can testify; he also had a reputation as a womaniser and he was s…[Read more]

While I was watching Victoria I confess that kept seeing Jenna as Clara in period costume. She bears little resemblance to even the young Victoria – a bit too tall, too slender and neck too long – but she certainly conveyed V’s strong will and something of her opinionated character.
I thought that as a whole the drama was a bit pedest…[Read more]

@nerys. My eye is still sore, but the soreness goes away after a while, I still wear dark glasses everywhere – even indoors- or both eyes become very tired.
@missrori: Thank you for that. What fun, although I’m surprised that PC and neither of the writers were there too?Forgive me if I seem to shorten sentences, but it’s a strain looking through…[Read more]

Glad to hear that things went well. I am not conscious that the cataracts have affected my colour perception, but I suspect that once I have had the implants I may have to adjust the colour balance on my TV 🙂
In my case, also, the cataracts seem to have developed very quickly. Last year when I had my annual eye check-up I wa…[Read more]

Thank you muchly. The deed is done, and although things are still slightly ‘off’ colours are astonshing!
I have to wear dark glasses for at least a week, a patch in bed at night (?) and three lots of drops four times a day .
Print is still blurred and I mustn’t bend over or do anything strenuous.
I watched DW last night (how unusual)…[Read more]

@nerys Oh, there are lots of sane people in the States who share my feelings about the political scene, including (it seems) some self-styled “conservative” big mouths (latest, George Will, one time political columnist and backer of the very Rethug strategy that has brought us Drumpf; he has announced that he’s leaving the Thug party because he…[Read more]

@nerys Ye gods, why are we still allowed on the internet? Anywhere else, we’d be trying to tear each other’s throats out over the ending of Penny Dreadful (or something else equally ephemeral and largely weightless).
Not really laughing. A pal of mine with an unsettling habit of being right about the future said to about 2 weeks ago, “We’ve go…[Read more]

@nerys Wish I felt the same, but instead I was let down by the final two-parter. It felt rushed and rather chaotic to me, and I am so weary of the exceptionally gifted woman of strong will and character sacrificing herself and leaving the men who were swept away by her mournfully grieving and then resolving to get on with their lives. True to…[Read more]

Funny you should say that. We watched one episode of the Vikings and turned it off.

Broadchurch: one of the few TV shows around these here parts where flame-proof undies are the recommended dress code.
Let’s just say that some of us like it, some of us don’t, and the result tends to be what politicians refer to as ‘full and frank discussions’. 😉
