@pedant; Re replacing Teresa May

What a ghastly thought!

Also, hasn’t Doctor Who always told us the same? Except from what I have heard from viewers who aren’t Whovians,

this season is a series of lectures.

@pedant  Talking animals crop up a lot in Studio Ghibli animations, and this story had a bit of a Ghibli feel to it, with an ending that was honest, rather than shoe-horned in sentimental. Spirited Away? Princess Mononoke?

Gad, yes!  “Spirited Away” sticks with me as the best animated fantasy film I’ve seen — I rarely miss a chance to see it a…[Read more]

@mudlark True, the Theseus myth is specifically Mediterranean but I like to think that most of these things have a universal element, and that aspects of that story found their way into this new Norse myth.  OK, I agree Ribbons is more Gollum than Minotaur, and the svart alfar/troll king reference is definitely relevant.  But I do think there’s a…[Read more]

If you check out all of the posts by @cumquat from over the last few years, there aren’t many (but they’re all really funny) – she comes and then goes.

Sometimes she’s just the ironic hero we need, at the right time.

@pedant

Well, ARE we? Playing the Finger the Cumquat?

*This is not a rude, sexist, harassing comment on ANY level – -before the guns come out!

Is it someone who enjoys the …..ding-ding thread?

@seeoswald

It’s called clever. And I’ve been here- regularly for about 5 yrs now, so…you know….read the posts. But you won’t.

Also you’re my age (when my son isn’t me) which makes some of what you write a little ‘weird’ for one so ‘mature.’

@pedant agreed. The show was terrific to me too  @bluffme any dismay was totally understandable but…[Read more]

@pedant I suspect your keyboard has a delete key and so I deduce that Finger The @Cumquat is precisely as obscene as you intended. 🙂

Sounds like a good game, let’s play.

*dons Poirot moustache* ‘Ello mah leetuhl Ehngleesh chuhms…

No hang on, that’s Eurotrash.

I have a couple of suspects in mind, but how do we know the culprit would come…[Read more]

Let’s play Finger The @Cumquat

No. Wait. That came out way more obscene than intended.

Or did it?

@ichabod @miapatrick @pedant @idiotsavon

Let’s just say I won’t be taking any action against the hilarious cumquat – it’s not me either though, by the way.

Edit: As the new Doctor might say “Or is she?”

@Arch @pedant @Bluesqueakpip @thane16

Reverting if I may to the subject of moral issues raised by the decision to confine Tzim Sha in a stasis pod rather than killing him, I wrote yesterday evening that it might be considered a crueller fate than death. That does not mean that I thought it was not the right decision, not least because for Graham…[Read more]

@pedant @bluesqueakpip @arch this is a really interesting discussion. At home, we’ve been discussing this all morning and fortunately no heads became heated 🙂  (however the Brisbane heat is probably cooking us all so like the ‘feathery,’ confused brains of Paltraki and crew, we keep massaging our heads!)

All that being said I don’t hate the ep…

@pedant

in Tim Shaw’s case sure I’m willing to reduce myself to the most depraved

If killing monsters is depraved then I’m depraved

@pedant

Im actually against the death penalty in most cases.

This is not real life, this is TV. Tim Shaw is an evil being, responsible for the deaths of countless people and almost the genocide of 5 planets. On top of that he’s clearly in pain.

I do believe a creature of that level of evil deserves death and suffering as he is deserves the s…[Read more]

@miapatrick Agreed!  It’s a terrific episode which benefits from repeat viewings and shows the Doctor in a variety of acting poses: she’s quite “terrified” and yet manages to laugh while saying so without doing a Tennant:

“this is the worst and most terrifying monster in the history of the universe (delivered with immense doctory-ness) and so…[Read more]
