@mudlark ** I refuse to accept his prohibition on pears, though, and ate one at breakfast this morning – without dribbling any of the juice down my chin.
Depends on the pears, doesn’t it? Boscs are my favorite, and not “mushy” unless you leet them get over-ripe, in which case, don’t eat ’em, as you have, by neglect, forfeited the right to the…[Read more]

The trouble with arriving six days late at the party, when the discussion is far advanced and so much has been said and so eloquently, is that it is difficult to add anything original or to tag everyone whose comments have chimed with my views. The best I can do is to set down my initial thoughts and reactions from my own perspective, and to…[Read more]

Other people have said to me before that the Doctor finds you/you find the Doctor when you need him most. For me the worst was during Smithy’s era, when my mum’s memories were disintegrating rapidly (my mum who watched DW from 1963 with me, including the episodes I had to miss, and would then remember them and relate them back to me); at…[Read more]

@puro Despite their youth (and I certainly don’t speak for all) they’re not always equipped for subtlety and in their wish for youthful easy action they’re stolid, conservatively prurient and just a bit-behind-the-times. They miss the magical enactment of two Doctors making a decision, one creating the other; all moderated by Bill Potts. The 1s…[Read more]

@wolfweed – Interesting RT article on Easter Eggs. One that they appear to have missed is a possible ‘goodbye’ to the Paternoster Gang.
When ‘Testimony’ is being explained, various images of people having their memories extracted appear as holograms. The last person to be shown is a woman in Victorian attire who, to me, looks a lot like Jenny…[Read more]

@wolfweed — loved the After Show. That’s a very nice interview with Moffat. I’m going to miss his interface with the Who world, no matter what he gets up to in the future. And I’ll look forward to the extended interview in the new year….

Hello, and seasons greetings to one and all.
Just dashing through to post a word of thanks to @wolfweed and post a question about a question.
Wolfweed posted a link a while ago about pre-screenings of Twice Upon A Time up here in t’frozen North. MrsPhaseshift seized the opportunity to apply for tickets and only bloody did it! We go today to…[Read more]

The special effect for the spaceship formation looks suspiciously like a black backcloth with holes cut in it, mounted on a circular frame so they can turn it round, then backlit.
William Hartnell isn’t in this episode at all; his stand-in is playing ‘collapsing Doctor’. That’s why we don’t see the face. It was Acute Bronchitis, it seems, and he…[Read more]

Fascinating to watch this again. A bona fide piece of Who history on so many levels. I always feel that BG Who was at its best when ingenuity and commitment trumped budget limitations and I feel this is absolutely one of those times. The rocket sequences are a bit static and the ‘space acting’ is a bit odd but for me it works — although I agree…[Read more]

@Bluesqueakpip , @whisht, @Wolfweed
General Cutler is an idiot.
He is all of that, but my first thought was that he is an example of a common – at the time – stereotype of the totally unimaginative and by-the-rule military officer who is so mentally and emotionally incapable of processing such a truly out of the ordinary experience as this that he…[Read more]

Aw shucks that was awfully decent of you!
Yes, I am now 16. And my acne has really set in. On a positive note, my hair is turning curly and I’m taller.
Thank you :

Nice one, thanks for that.
It always amuses me that when anyone asks another actor or actress, what they think of a female Doctor, all of them say it’s a wondeful idea? What did they expect them to say” It’s a rotten idea?”If that’s what they really think.
Actor’s and actresses are always acting in front of the microphone and camera…[Read more]

@wolfweed Cheers. I’d found the footage + stills reconstruction but not the animation.
It won’t hurt to offer both as a final watching experience. Might even be an interesting topic of conversation – what do people prefer?

@wolfweed that made me laugh. To you and @bluesqueakpip, many thanks.
Strangely enough, on the day I was made redundant last week, the website I do, as just part of my job, was ranked 4th best corporate website in the UK, equal with BP (who probably have a massive team). One of those luscious, movie-moment coincidences.
So at least you know…[Read more]

@wolfweed Looks interesting. I see there’s some criticism of the animation style, but for the purpose of bridging elements of the story where there is no footage, I think it’s fine. In fact, it makes the animation look more like it’s a product of the time when the rest was filmed, rather than a modern day animation studio, so there’s a certain…[Read more]
