“I assume it was that they did not want to distract from the surprise of Tennant. But I also wondered if there was a gendered assumption that the audience could not cope with a male Doctor appearing in the clothes of a female Doctor. I hope not”

they left the master in her clothes (I know that wasnt a ‘proper’ regeneration)

Ace looked pleasantly well preserved ❤️

@miapatrick that’s the one! Obviously I misremembered the plot and the  end but otherwise… 🙂

    Thank you.

That was more like it! Loved the idea of accepting their death in one loop to set up the next one – a time travel version of Memento.

on the subject of time travel films, I saw a spanish film a couple of years ago on BBC4 when someone travels forward in time and see themselves  getting shot and (spoiler alert) in trying to avoid it actually discovers it was themselves that did it. Can’t for the life of me remember the title – anyone able to help me out?

much better than last week –  Azure and Swarm, “translations, but close enough”. Throwaway comment, or possible clue…

Well I am pleased that I wasn’t the only that was completely at a loss to describe what I saw in episode 1. As someone above mentioned, I expect each of the plotlines will get an exclusive episode, but will I  remember anything from episode 1? I don’t think so – as a scene setter it failed miserably.

@miapatrick “it’s most likely a case of how, not if, the Master got away/survived).”

The Master escape was signposted. just before the bomb went someone offscreen said, something like, “quick, come through here”

This series is like the Star Trek films, alternating between poor and excellent. TBH I have only just got around to watching this week’s as I wasn’t all fired up, but what a treat. This was another winner, and as commented previously by others, it was the pacing. One story, stick to it, move it along. Back to being excited for tomorrow… defo hoping to see Jack and altDic in one of the next two. Still fretting that we are going to end with a ‘Bobby in the shower’ ending though…

At the risk of being attacked by everyone here, I am going to put my head above the parapet and say, with the exception of the truly excellent Judoon episode, and ok plus Praxeus episode, I have found this series underwhelming so far.
    <div></div>
<div>I can’t put my finger on why I am not enjoying them. Part of the problem is with three companions to write for, the stories are too fragmented. The back stories are getting in the way, and slowing down, the main story.</div>
    <div></div>
<div>It is a pity, because I enjoy watching Jodie, her character reminds me of Colin Baker, but the screen is just too full.</div>

I begin to suspect that the Doctor will be waking up in the a proverbial shower at the end of this series. We mustn’t forget that ‘everything is a lie’.

Wow! A lot of name dropping in this episode. Like most, I guessed Ada straight away, but didn’t guess Madeleine – there was a programme about SOE a couple of years ago, and I think she was mentioned in that.

A nice set up of the series arc. Have we seen the last of the Master? (Doubt it!)

Disappointed that the second chip got wasted (as far as the story arc is concerned). Not sure why she didn’t give it the person she wrote about in her journals as being the love of her life.

    Re comments others have made:

I thought Me said she learnt of the Doctor from people she met (you have made waves)

Like the theory about Clara still being in the Daleks.

Posts arrive quicker than I can read them, so sorry if someone has already said this, but there have been suggestions that Clara might be a The Master. A character is only supposed to be able to coexist with themselves under certain conditions, not as a norm… Or has that time restriction gone now…

I don’t know if we are allowed to refer to The Inspector (US spoof show) here, but when the Daleks were waiting for Clara to run, I couldn’t help thinking ‘less talking, more fleeing’.

Couple of thoughts to throw in the the pot:

I wondered if the Doctor was waking up in Pompeii.

I was expecting all of last season to be a ‘Bobby in the shower’ moment. Good call about her flat/house.

If we are looking for an older doctor, relatively unknown on TV, but established theatre actor, Mark Rylance ticks all the boxes. Plus, my wife would start watching, so I would get to see the show on Saturday, rather than having to get up early on  Sunday  🙂

Re osakaHunter comment about Brain of Morbius’ – in the mind battle Morbius’s past lives show on his ‘screen’ so the pre-hartnell pictures must be the doctor. Mind you if you go by that, the Doctor has passed his twelfth generation so we are in other trouble elsewhere…

If I might throw a loopy theory into the mix….

The submarine is a Katyusha class (as written on the walls). Katyusha missile launchers were named after an old folk song with the following lyrics

Oh you tender song sung by a maiden
Spread your wings and fly towards the sun.
Find the soldier in the distant trenches
Bring him from Katyusha greetings fond.
May he then remember his beloved
May he hear her sweet song like a dove
To his last breath may he guard his homeland
Like Katyusha guards their tender love.

The first four lines could be construed to be represented by the last two episodes.

    I’ll get my coat…
