Definitely not one for arachnophobes, especially now that they can be made to appear so realistic. We’ve come a long way since Planet of the Spiders. Like @pedant, I was particularly glad to see how the plot took into account the physiology of spiders, and the fact that there is a limit to the size which the metabolism of an insect or arthropod…[Read more]

@pedant loved the shadow puppets! Nicely done too, just there, in the background, easy to miss. Wish he’d done deformed rabbit, though, that’s my favourite.

@Rob

Yes, after much angst she eventually ended up with the Doctor-Donna clone with the human lifespan.

But on the whole, I don’t think ‘You’ll end up trapped in an entirely different dimension’ counts as ‘being kept safe’, even if Rose did end up with a wealthy Dad, a boyfriend and possibly a TARDIS.

But a sense of peril somewhat missing this week.

Comedy horror, I think. I was laughing my socks off, anyway – though that may be because ‘fear of spiders’ appears to be absent from the Bluesqueakpip genome. But there were definitely a few places where even I was going ‘Yikes, that’s a BIG spider’.

They were lovely spiders. Really good…[Read more]

I’ve just realised what my issue with the coda was.

Yes, it did have a flavour of ‘Now, children, sit up and pay attention’.

On first viewing I was inclined to excuse it on the grounds that you stated; that it was information necessary for most young viewers, and perhaps some older ones unaware of the historical details, and that it was j…[Read more]

@Blenkinsopthebrave Sorry you are having to wait, friend, to watch along. I can recommend VPN . A reputable one is ExpressVPN but you do have to pay a monthly fee. You can cancel anytime though, so you could just have it for Doctor Who’s run.

OK, I have resisted entering the fray up till now, as I am cruelly deprived of easy access to Who in the wilds of Canada. But as one who has no problem with spoilers, I have enjoyed the weekly discussions, and am looking forward to my inevitable (if seemingly distant) viewings.

But that is not what has warranted this post.

@pedant and @anduril Have I been summoned by costume bonkerising!?

(@anduril – my icon is an old reference to the red/blue bow-ties of SmithDoc and the elaborate, some might say obsessive, theorising thereof, in our former home on Dan Martin’s recaps at The Guardian, before @Craig created the Better Place).

I hope you don’t mind me chucking in my tuppence. I don’t pretend to be massively well-informed compared with others on this forum, and am happy to be schooled (preferably kindly.)

Yes, I felt that as Krasko had admitted, with great amusement to killing 2000 people, and referred to African Americans as “mongrels,” I felt there was no real need to ‘explore’ this particular gentleman’s character further.

No I haven’t & I desperately want to. Right now, I can see a movie theatre across the way. It’s one huge thing with 13 cinemas and probably smells of popcorn but I would brave even that. Except it was released in May, I think.
