Zoe Ball’s birthday is 23rd November, and she really is a massive fan.
4 August 2013 at 20:55 #15246Hello fishes! Delighted by this news. If there were leaks, they were on-purpose leaks
Was given strong hints yesterday, because my source told me the broadcast had to take place in Capaldi’s one-week filming break.
Craig Ferguson’s probably a little moist in eyes and trousers just now.
14 June 2013 at 12:43 #12265@HPBDET nice to see you back and hope you’re bearing up. Thanks for the insider stuff – Rhys Ifans was a guest at a friend’s wedding a while back and was charm itself on the day. So much so that I can’t imagine him giving a bad interview unless the journo really made him cross (I do similar for a living and have never had a bad scene with a subject). Loved him as Peter Cook in the BBC film BTW.
I’m wondering if people shouldn’t be looking for a Doc 12 hidden in plain sight, so I checked the 50th cast list and I’m intrigued by the inclusion of the RSC actor/Billie Piper co-star Jonjo O’Neill in what appears to be a suspiciously small role. He’s definitely on the up, and fits the bill.
2 June 2013 at 18:46 #11690No woman doctor while Moffat is in charge because: “I have CLEAVAGE now. Cleavage is cool!” Under another show-runner, perhaps, and then the actress would have to be someone clever and weird like Zawe Ashton.
I’d probably implode if Ben Wishaw was chosen/said yes, too, @Shazzbot: I keep checking the guy’s IMDB and Wiki pages for new work, like a dork, and so far there’s nothing booked in that would clash with DW Series 8 (except for winning a BAFTA, being shy/allegedly closeted, etc). Staying with unruly Jesus and Mary Chain-type hair, we also have Richard Ayoade as a possible (I don’t think Patterson Joseph is the right guy, because if they ever do cast a POC, he’ll be tall and thin). Damien Molony is completely fantastic as well, but possibly a tiny bit young. Being Human was the job he won a week out of drama college, and perhaps the next showrunner would be a better fit for him. Leaving aside these guys, all ectomorphs, I thought Rory Kinnear or Rafe Spall might be good (particularly the latter).
27 May 2013 at 13:18 #11129The fobwatch: I’m wondering if it’s not a repository for all the information the Doctor has gone around deleting from databases. That information has to go… somewhere.
21 May 2013 at 21:07 #10242Perhaps the minimalist Tardis interior is ‘factory settings’ mode as well as the desktop chosen by 11 at that particular time.
19 May 2013 at 23:22 #9927I don’t buy it because a female Doctor would be played by a different and possibly taller/older actress.
19 May 2013 at 22:29 #9910@Shazzbot – I certainly hope not, because whatever they do for the 50th/Series 8 will probably write over that potential future.
19 May 2013 at 22:04 #9902Nice to see that in CALworld, Issey Miyake does River’s wardrobe. Hope Kingston gets to keep the clothes. Everybody understands that she said the Doctor’s given name under cover of him yelling ‘please?’ at the GI, right? BTW I don’t think River and Clara are at all connected beyond each knowing the Doctor. ‘Spoilers’ only means that River is probably due another ‘live’ appearance in his timeline. She has to get his given name out of him, right? Besides, for all we know the History of the Time War book could name him as Mr. Song – especially if it was written by the wife.
Obviously the Doctor meets Clara out of order, but linear order is restored the closer he gets to 10 April, 2013. It’s not like the Tardis hates her, because she has no problem with Victorian Clara, it’s that Clara Prime is directed away from going inside on her own unless it’s necessary. If she needs to get in, she gets in, just as the Tardis always takes the Doctor where he needs to go. And are we agreed that she didn’t really know what she’d done until she jumped into the Doctor’s timelines? Moffat’s been serving up characters who have their timelines tweaked by the Doctor in real time since before he took over, so it’s good turnabout to show that happening to the Doctor. Maybe series 8 will give Clara some family life/backstory – I can but hope. It’s my big complaint with Moffat’s women/companions, so here’s hoping she doesn’t find out she’s also her own mum or something.
For the Hurt Doctor, he could be Prisoner Zero – escaping under deep cover when all the other Time Lords did in series 4, or possibly when Ten regenerated so hard the Tardis nearly blew up. It definitely leaked/cracked (maybe he’s the ultimate ‘spoiler?’). That ‘silence will fall’ voice did remind me of a certain camp dragon. I’ve always thought the Atraxi caught a decoy in The Eleventh Hour (‘pay no attention to the patient behind the curtain’). He could be an anomaly between Eight and Nine, based purely on wardrobe. He could even be a massive impostor, just because of the tendency of Moffat to misdirect.
18 May 2013 at 16:19 #9538Not long now…
Just to add that although I lurk more than I post, I’m pleased to do so in such a convivial and smart environment.
14 May 2013 at 11:50 #9029@IAmNotAFishIAmAFreeMan @jimthefish
I’ve been nursing that theory for quite some time. From another thread in another place, which I posted to in January:
Well, the angel in It’s A Wonderful Life *was* Clarence. The feminine of Clarence is Clara.
It’s A Wonderful Life was about a man who wishes he never existed, who gets to see how his wish plays…
Other bonkers theorising:
Who created the Weeping Angels? The Doctor, either by accident or on purpose? Because it must be called the Medusa Cascade for a reason to do with the myth. Or, both the Silents and the WAs are created by Omega as a ladder to returning to the matter universe, because they both steal time/memory/potential. If Moffat keeps telling people to go back to the beginning, *which* beginning?
Something that’s nagged at me since The Eleventh Hour, which I have NEVER seen discussed: the possibility of two Doctors, but not for the blue/red tie reason (although that bonkers theory is VERY entertaining). It’s because, in Leadworth hospital, there is a patient behind a curtain in the big ward where all the visible patients sit up and call for the Doctor. The concealed patient is never shown and it’s as if the staff have no perception of him/her. What was the line in the Wizard of Oz? “Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.”
4 May 2013 at 20:46 #7781Hello, shoal! I really loved all of that but the prehistoric bug has put me right off lobster. Totally right that the big temperance fan had a Naked Lunch version of hypocrisy going on. They normally do.
Oh, and I’m in a lovely anagram jungle with Ava Gilleyflower because A GALLIFREY VOWEL amongst others!
27 April 2013 at 09:34 #6819In Hide, I did notice the Doctor drinking milk from the bottle, which I thought tied into ‘where did you get the milk?’ in this episode.
25 April 2013 at 21:44 #6682@bluesqueakpip If only they gave her a Christopher Kane galaxy dress.
22 April 2013 at 15:54 #6382If she isn’t quite real yet and somehow has to earn it, Clara mentioning Pinocchio in Cold War might be a little clue to back that theory.
20 April 2013 at 21:19 #6189@bluesqueakpip Let’s get back to that little boy with a sliver of ice in his heart, who only likes the snow? Nod to the Great Intelligence slo-o-o-wly taking over the Doctor?
Hmmm…
9 April 2013 at 09:46 #4773Guys, Margaret Thatcher is still dead, and this is Trafalgar Square, this morning:
7 April 2013 at 19:17 #4497‘Oh my stars’ will also be familiar to anyone brought up on Bewitched repeats. Were Rose to turn up as a South London estate-dwelling teen in 2013, she’d probably say ‘oh my days!’.
Apart from the frankly weird references to souls and a few utterances of ‘oh my God’ this series, Who has historically been secularish, talking about religion in the abstract or as a plot point, so a euphemism in place of OMG to express surprise ought to be totally normal.
7 April 2013 at 10:16 #4399Argh, BT Internet just ate a massive post. But I’m glad of the space to entertain all manner of Who-hah because CiF commenting clashes with work and the usual dedicated sites give me the RMDEs.
Joni Mitchell seems (like Tom Waits) to be a THING with Scotsmen of a certain vintage.
Clara’s mother dies the same day Rose Tyler goes ‘missing’. Clara doesn’t record the year 2005 (her 16th) or 2012 (her 23rd). Think the Doctor hasn’t been to see her at 23 yet, but that’s coming, and both will be ‘forgotten’ years for that reason.
7 April 2013 at 08:44 #4383That Lewis Carroll reference manages to wend its way through a LOT of ’60s songs, such as Puff, the Magic Dragon and Joni Mitchell’s Both Sides, Now but Mitchell’s ‘Tin Angel’ appears to have a relevance here that’s spooky. To wit, its lyrics:
Varnished weeds in window jars
Tarnished beads on tapestries
Kept in satin boxes are
Reflections of love’s memoriesLetters from across the seas
Roses dipped in sealing wax
Valentines and maple leaves
Tucked into a paperbackGuess I’ll throw them all away
I found someone to love todayDark with darker moods is he
Not a golden Prince who’s come
Through columbines and wizardry
To talk of castles in the sunStill I’ll take a chance and see
I found someone to love todayThere’s a sorrow in his eyes
Like the angel made of tin
What will happen if I try
To place another heart in himIn a Bleeker Street cafe
I found someone to love today
I found someone to love today -
