@xad4 Thank you for the link. I am now properly excited. Just watched Day of the Doctor as we will be asleep when it is shown and the S/O and I were alone tonight which does not happen often. Really looking forward to seeing the new material tomorrow.

    Cheers

@XAD4 and others who love the Osprey Project in Wales. They’re closing off sections at the end of the month as they’re building a new wildlife centre. Also, Peris was very hungry!

The System was right and placed the Doctor next to what it knew to be the real threat (we really do need to slightly fanwank that it had no faith in the humans to solve the problem, and we know its own infrastructure had been compromised by cybernetics expert-cum-terrorist AND that the humans WERE trying to investigate – but had no…[Read more]

@XAD4 Thanks for the reminder! It’s funny, I still have a vivid memory of watching the very first episode of Who when it was screened and yet I have no memory of the assassination of President Kennedy.

Of course, it was Australia, and to a 12 year old what was happening at Coal Hill School and in Trotter’s Lane probably had more resonance than…[Read more]

I noticed that the workers are given jobs based on “mental fitness (approximately), stamina etc and the Doc wants the Purple Group Loop but is assigned a ‘white’ one. She then swaps with Graham who initially had the cleaner’s job.

I thought “hmm” the machines assign the work according to one’s brain/experience etc etc and yet the Doc is a…[Read more]

I’m with @bendubz11. Apart from oreos which, besides being and American affectation, do something deeply unsettling in your digestive tract if you eat a whole packet.

Not that I’m allowed any sodding biccies at the moment.

@MissRori As @XAD4 says – please try to stick to the episode and not what’s going to happen next week or the week after. If you want to do that we have topics for that.

Sorry to be a buzz-kill but some people like to go in knowing nothing.

Phew, I very nearly missed Doctor Who due to ‘technical hitches’.

Firstly, I record TV to my PC using a USB thingy. I haven’t used it for a while ( since last year’s Xmas episode in fact) so earlier today I did a test run just to make sure it was still working and today of all days, it decided to record audio only – no video. Oh poo!

    Thinking it…[Read more]

  • @xad4 – totally, Grahams speech was a beautiful note to fans.

  • @xad4 @winston @thane16 and I’m sure others who have followed the Dyfi Ospreys. I went down on Monday on a rather dreck and dreary day but which was replete with the hope of seeing at least one of the chicks fledge. Thus I took my tripod and Sigma 150-600mm lens and wound the latter all the way out. The Observatory is a wooden structure and with a…[Read more]

That’s awesome! Mum loves those ospreys and I really liked just sitting there, last winter (here) and holding a hot chocolate listening to the wind and the birds and watching them fly about.

Thanks @pedant and @bluesqueakpip for your advice and ideas about identity. The teacher said I could use John Searle to support my thesis…[Read more]

Indeed – that is very early.

Those of you who have followed the Dyfi Ospreys may like to know that they are running their annual camera appeal. It’s costs £20,000 a year to keep the camera running, so if you have some spare shekels to chuck in the pot it will be well spent. If you are a UK tax payer you can Gift Aid it.

Sad news indeed to read on waking.   A great writer who wrote with vision, clarity, depth and profound insight, and she wrote beautifully.

I have loved her novels and writings since I first discovered The Left Hand of Darknessin the early 1970s and her books, which fill almost an entire shelf in my library, will continue to enrich my l…[Read more]

    Hello there and welcome. *waves*

I one of the very few who does not want a female Doctor. Enough said.

    @thane16:

Try Tasmania, nice and cool there. That’s where we should have gone. *sigh*

I haven’t watched the episode as yet and neither has mum -she’s doing OK but not last night so we are hoping the new DVD player has worked and taped it otherwise we will be watching it on the ABC on a tiny screen.

@Phaseshift – thanks so much for sharing – I hope it lived up to expectations. Time travelling with the Doctor is always special, I’ve found. (The Christmas episode just took me back to being an excited 7 year old, watching weekly, with my mum (and that is special indeed))
