    @countscarlioni You’re welcome.  Found it out on Tumblr oddly enough.  Also, I’m inclined to think we’ll see something like you’re predicting in the coming weeks.

  • MissRori replied to the topic Oxygen

    @countscarlioni, Mathieson has already gone on record as saying he hasn’t been asked to come back for Series 11, as yet, and doubts he will be.  According to him “My understanding is that Chris is sticking with a team he’s got used to working with on Broadchurch.”  :/

    @wolfweed  Always read the small print! Did nobody scrutinise that contract? I’d love to see the actual wording.

    I was surprised that the Doctor didn’t have a look at that contract!

    @frobisher . . . the twist was unexpected. There is definitely a theme of release going on, imo.

    Loved Suchet — and yes, liberation . . . will that be this Doc…[Read more]

    Very much enjoying the feel of all these episodes. I’m thinking that emotionally, this is the lowest key doctor since Tom Baker. Like @CountScarlioni, I like the scope of the threats as well. We’re definitely seeing a thread of villains who aren’t really villains. I confess it’s a theme that resonates with me. Increasingly in the world as it has…[Read more]

    Yes, I think it’s a little production joke: Clara was positioned as the Doctor’s ‘daughter’, Bill is positioned as ‘granddaughter’, therefore the picture of her mum – as a little joke – really resembles Clara.

    I dunno if we’ll see Susan herself, but Moffat really has re-taken the Doctor through his entire life cycle. We’ve seen…[Read more]

    @geoffers  if bill lost all her friends like that, she may not have wanted to continue on with traveling with the doctor. she was already a bit leery of his “can’t save everyone” attitude last week…

    Agreed. I thought it was dramatically a bit weak for all of them to escape.

    @mudlark The same applies to Susan so I would be equally surprised…[Read more]

    @Whisht

    Obviously nods towards First Doctor and Susan again (leaving one’s charge behind…).

    And not just Susan, if you think of all the others who have travelled with him and whom he has left behind, whether freely or reluctantly or unwillingly, to continue on their own way without him.  Maybe I am reading too much into the Doctor’s subdued…[Read more]

    Remind you of anyone?

    looks similar to clara, in this pic. and could be a daughter of clara and danny… if danny had lived? (edit: looks very similar to orson, actually? hmmm)

    who does she remind you of?

    That all Bill’s housemates come out of the woodwork at the end?? I thought that was a bit feeble.

    Just wanted to follow up on the reference to Midnight by @tommo @Thane15 @countscarlioni and probably many others.

    Apologies if this has already been mentioned, but in Midnight the Doctor makes a very explicit promise, almost a contract, with the entity that appears to have possessed Mrs. Silvestry.

    He says, ‘Whatever you want, if it’s life, or…[Read more]

    @countscarlioni  The power of SM’s conception of Clara for me was that we in a way got to see at times perhaps not two Doctors in the Tardis but maybe a Doctor and a half.

    And — how ultimately there’s only “room” for one Doctor in the Tardis, as CapDoc said in S8.  We can have an uneasy and demanding team of (more or less) two Docs for a bit…[Read more]

    I think the reference to Studying Medicine under Bell goes back to Pat Troughton. I’m probably wrong, but I think it was the “Moonbase” story.

    I wonder what he is teaching – pretty sure it’s not PPE.

    Life, the Universe and Everything, of course, from an entirely unorthodox perspective 🙂 (and I’ll bet that the answer isn’t 42)

    The Doctor says, ‘I am your teacher’, and I see him in his relationship with Bill as mentor and guide; not fatherly, grandfatherly or avuncular, but a te…[Read more]

    @countscarlioni You are doing well with the art spotting. I love that painting (have used it when talking of the evils of industrial revolution) and it would be very apt for Sutcliff’s house. I need to look out for it on next watch.

    @countscarlioni—

    That I take as a reference to the Fourth Doctor story The Invasion of Time, which is the only other occasion I can remember the Doctor taking an oath, when he becomes President of the Time Lords and takes the oath to recover the Great Key of Rassilon

    Much as I hate to torpedo a fine bit of bonkerising, I think the reference is to…[Read more]

    @nick—

    As adventure stories, they could be dealt with in 20 minutes. What’s made them enjoyable has been all of the character development and the production values

    I kind of get what you mean and agree that the stories are not what you’d call complex but I think the above has actually been the show’s mission statement pretty much from Rose o…[Read more]

    Thanks for that. The quote is quite interesting, particularly given that use of the emojis in the context of the story and its impact on the colonists is neither funny nor touching but dark and deadly. It is a uptopia gone very, very wrong.

  • ichabod replied to the topic Smile

    @countscarlioni    there has been a reference to “promises” and Nardole referred to an “oath.” To whom or what has the Doctor made his promises/promise/oath? The being(s) in the vault (assuming there are beings in there)? To himself? To a Keeper of the Vault?

    @wolfweed @thane15

    The resemblance between the Van Gogh painting and the opening scene on the planet does not seem all that close to me.  On the one hand the painting is full of swirling movement, from the swooping curve of the path into the foreground and back, to the wind rippled wheat and the wind-tossed crows, and the sky has the hazy, b…[Read more]

    @whisht It has been many many years since I saw the film but I thought maybe the gift of the carpet might be a nod to Educating Rita. Doesn’t she give the professor a gift, a bottle of cheap Scotch or something? That is probably too vague.

    @countscarlioni Lady Hamilton. Interesting. There is a (very) tenuous link to Scotland there.
